Happy Friday!
We are proud to announce that, as of today, Zenyatta is confirmed thirty-seven days in foal.
She was bred earlier this year to the Claiborne Farm stallion War Front. Zenyatta was examined by Dr. Holder this week, and checks out to be happily in foal and in excellent health!
Wishing sunny weather and a happy Father’s Day everyone this weekend!

Trainer Mike Mitchell Hospitalized
By Blood-Horse Staff Updated: Sunday, June 16, 2013 8:26 PM
Trainer Mike Mitchell was taken to Centinela Hospital Medical Center by ambulance June 16 after collapsing on the track at Betfair Hollywood Park following the sixth race.
The Hollywood Park publicity office confirmed the 65-year-old trainer was transferred to Centinela but had no information on his condition. Mitchell’s horse, Gutshot Straight, won the $40,000 claiming race by a neck over favored Chapman’s Peak.
TVG reported that Mitchell suffered a seizure after leaving the winner’s circle and was treated at the scene before being transported to the hospital.
Mitchell underwent surgery June 29, 2012, to remove a brain tumor

@shirleeinindy – I just saw your post about being from Danville. That’s where my mom lived for many years. I still have an aunt and several cousins that live there. How long has it been since you lived there? You might know some of my kinfolk!
shirleeinindy
Judy, I left when I was 12 so have lost touched with everyone since all the grandparents and aunts and uncles are gone. Cousin are scattered all around the US. We really weren’t from Danville. A little place called Junction City.
Terry Crow
Debbie-here is a joke especially for you. Where was OJ hiding before the famous white Bronco freeway chase? On the Kentucky campus because that is the last place you would find a football player.

Terry, Ouch! I am afraid to say that is mostly true. The Big Blue does have a few in the NFL. Randal Cobb and Jacob Tamme come to mind right now.

I am not really knocking KU football. It is just a running joke that Debbie and I have going.

Zenny, we just got our electricity back after a vicious storm on Wed. I am glad to hear about your date with War Front. Dottie and the Mosses know what is best for you so this union is sure to produce a great foal.
Trina Nagele in So Cal
Glad you’re back! That’s a long time to be without electricity.
Ann NC
Glad you are OK and back up and running. It packed a punch in my parts too.
Exciting news about, Zenny.
Niki Avila
I love this horse. But this is morally wrong . Race her non stop then breed her 3 years straight. Doesn’t she deserve more than to be a foal factory after all she has accomplished ? Close to 70% of the maiden horses per year in the tb race industry go to auction and / or slaughter . I am so discouraged as a horse lover and Zenyatta fan
Vicki B. near Hollywood Park
Niki, you are mistaken, you have not taken the time needed to form a more coherent opinion. You should read a lot more of the posts on this blog, in more depth, and educate yourself about Zenyatta and her owners the Mosses, instead of forming such a “strong opinion” based on information which does not apply to Zenyatta, and such a superficial way of looking at the whole thing.
The same questions you ask, have been answered and responded to numerous times, by others. You are certainly not the only one to come here this week, and talk this way. It is bizarre how many people have made such shallow, oversimplified, impulsive and rushed “judgements”, based on incredibly minimal factual information. If you really want to know, then take the time and educate yourself.
Louise Castello
Thank you!
Maryp NY
Vicki B and dumplings,
More and more of these first time posters are completely unaware of Zenyatta’s life and history with her owners and trainer and fans.
They have ignored all the responses to their uninformed opinion and so they should be ignored.
I have faith that Mr & Mrs Moss don’t take any stock in any of it!
Ann Maree / Tennessee
Good job, Vicki! Totally agree, Why try to explain something to someone who obviously has their mind closed. I just resent the heck out of people coming here and thinking they have a right to insult Zenny’s family, that somehow this is a debate site, It is not, The Forum on the other hand is set up to handle give and take debate; Zenny’s Facebook and Blog pages are a gift that the Mosses give us, and it is not without personal cost (both emotional and monetary) that they share this great mare with us. They can withdraw this gift at any time, when it becomes too burdensome or they think no one appreciates it. This is a FAN site, and a fan just doesn’t walk into their benefactor’s living room and insult the hell out of them. Jeeeez! Talk about hubris, talk about utter lack of sensitivity. I would say to Niki, please consider where you are before you make such accusations, totally insulting to our hosts. Talk about looking a “gift horse” in the mouth, literally!
Rosemary McCauley
What do you mean race Zenyatta non stop? Zenyatta didn’t have her first race until November of her three-year-old year. She was officially four years old two months after that race. She retired at six. She had a total of 20 races. Do you seriously consider this racing her non-stop?
Ann Maree / Tennessee
Where do you get your information? This is utter foolishness and is so far from having any credibility, it doesn’t deserve a response. I have a flash for you: you are in hostile territory here. You need to take this kind of rhetoric somewhere else. It is not welcome here. The Mosses do not need defending, you on the other hand are in dire need of a brain transplant!
zfansandy
Zenyatta, WTG on your successful date with War Front. A lioness grieves without cubs. A motherless penguin will steal another female’s pup. So for the complainers, just shuddup, foaling is is what our queen WANTS. Human beings are the only species who butcher their unborn. Animals desire what God intended.
Thanks Ann and Jerry for allowing our sweetheart mom to live on and on through breeding. Love ya.
suew/Va
Beautifully said.

Amen to that! Our only child is adopted, and I cannot tell you how many baby showers I endured before we got her. Though I was glad for the moms-to-be, it was a constant reminder that I wasn’t one myself.

Much praise for our Mike who pulled up Itsmyluckyday. I know he will take some criticism for this but as I have said before, Mike puts the life and health of the horse first. Bravo Mike.

Animal Kingdom, and American racing, are winners regardless of Queen Anne result
Dubai Race Nights This entry was written by PatCummings,
posted on June 17, 2013 at 6:56 pm, filed under Perspectives.
They can run the Queen Anne (G1) at Royal Ascot just about any time they want. The expected reactions to Animal Kingdom’s performance are most likely already cemented. These reactions are predictable, and they’ve essentially been festering via social media for weeks, crystallizing as the field solidified for the race, but they really miss the point of this historic event.
If any of the four results below occur, you WILL hear/read/experience these thoughts. How could one be surprised if the stories aren’t already drafted?
Excerpt from later in article
…mostly because Kentucky Derby winners are so rarely seen around, let alone in the winner’s circle, in the years after their Derby tally.
Giacomo, the 2005 Kentucky Derby victor, was the last Derby winner to take a race in his 4-year-old season, a score in the San Diego Handicap at Del Mar. The last Derby winner to have a win after his 4-year-old year was 2003 champ Funny Cide (a winner at six and seven), but he was a gelding. The last non-gelding to have won the Kentucky Derby and a start beyond his 4-year-old season was Silver Charm, taking the 1999 San Pasqual Handicap, two years after his 1997 Derby score. Before that, it was 1991 winner Strike The Gold, who took down a non-descript allowance race in April 1993

What it says about American racing, the fragility of the modern thoroughbred, your opinion on permissive medication, the breeding industry, or any other cause one wishes to assign as a result of this oddity is just a feeble attempt to fit a story around an agenda.

What would a horse like Zenyatta do with a year off? Have her hair done and visit the hoof salon? The Queen loves her little ones. That is so obvious. As long as she is healthy and happy that is all that matters. She is so special. Perhaps she will be known not as a “blue hen” but as a “purple her”. After all, we all know she is to the purple born.
