Happy Friday!
We are proud to announce that, as of today, Zenyatta is confirmed thirty-seven days in foal.
She was bred earlier this year to the Claiborne Farm stallion War Front. Zenyatta was examined by Dr. Holder this week, and checks out to be happily in foal and in excellent health!
Wishing sunny weather and a happy Father’s Day everyone this weekend!

A Birthday Poem for Arlene in Vermont
(June 21, 2013 )
Our dear Arlene
First used to ride,
Very serene,
Through the green countryside
On her Appaloosa mare,
Ladybug by name.
Years later Arlene
Could be seen
Aboard Charlie,
A chestnut pastured in their field
And of whom she did take care.
He was just a little less tame,
Especially when feeling his oats and barley,
And together they found it fun
Down country roads to run–
The long curly locks of her hair
Would stream out behind Arlene.
Trouble was, that Charlie
Sometimes was overly keen
There on the roads of Vermont
To make their routine
Even more piquant—
He would take the bit in his teeth
And then no one him could beseech
To his rider to yield.
Arlene would have preferred of course
To be in control of the horse,
But once started on a galloping run,
Charlie was wont
Not to listen.
Soon wet with sweat
His neck would glisten
As he at top speed
Did careen with Arlene
And refused her to heed
As he flew o’er the ground.
How her heart did pound
’Till he finally would come ’round
And his pace abate!
Can anyone else to that relate?
I don’t hesitate
To state
’Twould make me quake!
But our dear Arlene
Is made of sterner stuff—
You see,
She’s Yankee tough
When she has to be,
Like when things got really rough
With Hurricane Irene.
‘Twas the end of August two years ago
When every Vermont river and stream
Began from the rain to overflow–
Even creeks
Did swell and rage
And all exacted a great cost.
Electricity was lost
In some places for days
And in others for weeks,
Bridges by dozens were swept away
And roads completely destroyed,
As newscasts did relate.
From no less than eight other states
The National Guard deployed
To aid the Green Mountain state.
Arlene’s own home did flood
And fill with mud–
What a task it was to clean
And repair
The ravages of Irene!
But through thick and thin,
Never did Arlene despair–
What a true blue New England heroine!
I hope our dear Arlene
Managed to save her Breyer figurine
Of Zenyattta, the Queen,
And her Dumpling tag
The arrival of which had made her so glad
Just before Irene came on the scene.
Now in 2013,
As folks for her birthday convene,
Arlene can feel relaxed and serene
With her home at long last
Restored and pristine.
Dear Arlene, whatever is planned,
We hope your birthday is grand
And that you have a blast!
Happy birthday, Arlene, and many, many more!
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Happy Birthday Arlene and best wishes for a much better, drier year!!! I just love Vermont, and it’s hard to imagine it in the sorry state that Irene caused last year.
Arlene
Hi Sandy,
Thank you for you birthday note to me.
Did you live in Vermont or visit?
Wonderful summer pictures of Zenyatta, Z13 and friends, in the next post, huh?!!!
Arlene
Hi Trina, Thank you very much for updating the wonderful poem you gifted me with.
I knew you were preparing a poem for me, so I watched all morning til I had to leave. I didn’t want to miss it. When I was able to get on the site a few minutes ago the new post was up with the wonderful pictures of Zenyatta and handsome Z13 with friend. What a great birthday greeting!!!
Then I had to come back to this previous post to see if there was a poem waiting. And sure enough, here it is. Thank you again.

Zenyatta, you mean to tell me that you’re in foal again? You are really bringing horses into the world! Keep up the good work! It’s a good sign! It speaks well of horses in the future! Let me know when this one is born! Lane’s End Farm will one day need an entire section just for your foals!

dear sandy it’s difficult to find suitable words to describe a ponce could only come up with maybe effeminate it’s what hovis thinks of TB’s lol hugs sheena
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Hmmmm . . . . I think we were all on the wrong track. I’ll have to read today’s diary post again with this in mind. Thanks Sheena!
Max
Sandy. Sheena has explained this well as it is a British slang term. Hovis as Sheena has said before is very concerned about being seen as “manly” and attractive to mares. He is quite keen on the ladies. That is why he wants to stay away from stressage (dressage) and get instead into jump racing, which he sees as suitabe for manly horses like him. “Emerald” Walsh as a jockey is his play on Ruby Walsh who rides Hurricane Fly and used to ride Kauto Star. Hovis is a very funny horse. His blog is cleverly written.

G2 winner Hillstar heads great Royal Ascot day for Danehill Dancer
(21st June 2013) Coolmore News
Hillstar (3c Danehill Dancer-Crystal Star, by Mark Of Esteem) looked an exciting prospect when finishing with a late sail to head a 1-2-3 for Coolmore sires in the G2 King Edward VII Stakes under Ryan Moore.
Trainer Sir Michael Stoute felt that the Danehill Dancer colt was due a change of fortune after two earlier luckless starts this season.
“We had him in the Derby and we had him in the Irish Derby but his first two races this year just haven’t gone right,” said Stoute. “At Newbury, what would have been the pacemaker was withdrawn and he hit the gate too well and was too keen. We dropped him out today to make sure he didn’t do that again. The lady the bred him (Renee Robeson) has always adored him. Ryan was very good today.”

From Coolmore News
A great day for Danehill Dancer continued when the veteran Forgotten Voice
(8g Danehill Dancer-Asnieres, by Spend A Buck) returned to the scene of his
2009 Royal Hunt Cup victory to win the Listed Wolferton Handicap.
The pair were scoring after Danehill Dancer was responsible for the G2 Duke Of Cambridge Stakes winner Duntle (4f Danehill Dancer-Lady Angola, by Lord At War)

Yes, Keta, this was a tremendous effort by Sky Lantern! She blew the field away with a positively perfect ride by her jockey! Congratulations to the beautiful grey filly and her connections!!
I loved seeing her jockey patting her neck at the finish AND he reached up to give her left ear an affectionate tug — that was so nice!
Cheers

UPDATE on Topper , Faith’s older colt.
Our vet was out and debribed the area. Topper came from the same place as Faith. Our vet said he also is confindent it is Pythium. He stated the shots would be a good choice for Topper , faith was to far advanced for this option but topper is not. We should get the shots (series of 3, one per week) at the end of this week. They will cost $200 as far as he knows at this time. The vet visit for today was covered. Thank GOD. For Dr. Harvey comming out and giving him the shots & shots themselfs it should run right at $320 we have $58 left from the other money so we will be using that towards the shots, ect. Please keep Topper in your prayers. Pythium is terrible stuff if you can please check out our facebook Skip Over Trouble Page as we kept very good pictures of Faith’s pythiosis and now Toppers. This would be great for all horse owners to see what it looks like to catch it earily !!

Saw on Team Valor’s facebook page that State of Play (War Front) is gearing up for a return to racing. If State of Play is in the same form he was last year, he will be one to watch for the fall and next year for the grass and / or older horse division. Cannot wait for his (hopefully healthy) return! Am still waiting to see how Went the Day Well is faring but as of May 2013 he is back in training, too.

Hi, I’m happily on vacation on the cottage by the shore at Caissie Cape, New Brunswick. Except for rotten weather, it’s great. Wish you were here, all you Canadians who can’t enjoy beach life, LOL. So happy to see Zenny looking so well. Great about War Front. Good choice. All love to all Zsters. Nicki
