hi all….
Good Morning Zenny and to our little PrinZess too…
@Max….I just found out this morning that CC’s pony horse for the derby was
Perfect Drift….why did I not know this?
hope everyone has safe trips today….that’s for all species
kisses for all soft noses…
Max
carol. I didn’t know either until yesterday. Perfect Drift apparently got bored with retirement and has started a new career. He is good at it. He’s also very handsome, a pony with some real bite.
Tiz Herself
I feel silly lol… I was only watching California Chrome the whole time, I missed that Perfect Drift was his PONY

Kathy
Dear Sheena,
I hope Cheryl says yes! Can you imagine spending all that money just to be refused? Glad the ospreys and furbabies are doing well. I still have to check on most of them. I did see Boo helping human with her outfit. So cute! I’m so thrilled for California Chrome. Onto the Preakness now. Fingers crossed that he will be a Triple Crown winner! Enjoy your Sabbath. A very Happy Birthday to our greatest jumps jockey AP”Tony” McCoy.40 today.Life begins they say…..Hugs Sheena.
Max
All the best to AP. Anyone with those initials is a winner.
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Happy birthday to Tony McCoy. Today would have been my great grandmother’s birthday. She was born in 1890 in Sundsvall, Sweden. Immigrated to Minnesota in 1900. Hugs, Kathy.

@Terry Crow – On the Kentucky Life show they did talk about the jockeys all using their winnings to party after the Derby. They went to the Seelbach Hotel and stayed until all their money was gone. They also said that there were no barns at Churchill and Donerail and Roscoe Goose had to walk 3 miles to get to the track! They showed a clip of the horses taking off at the start of the race. There was no starting gate, so the horses just lined up and a man jumped and waved at them to spook them so they’d take off running. Stuff like that fascinates me. Horse racing has such a rich history.
Terry Crow
Debbie-Rich history, indeed. Wonderful that there is a clip of the horses at the start of the race. Man O’War never broke from a starting gate. The story is he was facing the opposite way at the start of the only race he lost. Goose himself ended up a very wealthy man. I am certain that Goose never thought that he would be picking up the bill for the party.
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Max. Better race today all down the centre of the course.Miss France won she had great support over the winter until her loss last month.1st I000 guineas win for the master Andre Fabre! No Chestnuts today a bay she’s a gorgeous girl.Young Joe only got a 2 day ban Huh!!!Chester May Meeting this week.Free The Moose!Remember his great run there last year!Sheena.
Max
Sheena. Disappointed that Joyeuse did not do better, but her results were better than Ballydoyle. Joyeuse is one beautiful horse. She looks very aristocratic. Think that you are right about young Joe. The beak should have only given a 2 day ban to the Moose. All Moose did was stand still.
Now have to start thinking about the Derby. Is Australia the favorite? Is Kingman going to the Derby? How’s Toast doing?
Free the Moose. Neigh x 9.

Wondeful Derby for California Chrome….he looked great, an outstanding ride by Victor E. Congratulations to all his connections!
Wish NBC would have spent more time filming Charlie LoPresti’s bear hug for Wise Dan! There are so many great trainers and owners, it would be nice to show case the people that take care of and love these great horses. And for Wise Dan, what an amazing champion he is, just love the big guy!
Didn’t think Steve A. said much in his own defense about the PETA story, just that he was a lifetime horseman. I’m sure the facts will come out, I have no information as to whether the charges are true or false but it is important for racing to find out the truth.
Sue Fredrick Happy as a lark
Hi All,
I can finally get on here to delight in the Derby win. Sally was up for our party and we had a great time, even bet among our group here. CONGRATULATIONS TO CHROME
he was just fabulous and seemed to do it so effortless. Congrats to GGPA Indy ( my love) and his son Pulpit, gone too soon, and Lucky Pulpit whom I’m sure will have many ladies knocking on his door now, and to the lovely mare Love the Chase. Indy had a great weekend with Commanding Curve, second, Untapable winning, and of course Orb last year. He is a magnificent sire and sire of sires. I THINK THE DUMB ASS RACING TEAM SHOULD CHANGE THEIR NAME TO SMART ASS, because they sure picked a winner.
And CONGRATULATIONS to my wonderful Danny Boy on his win, this horse has so much heart, and will to win it’s amazing.
Kisses on all soft noses Zenny, Ziconic, CoZ, EaZter Lilly and my fabulous INDY

2014 Kentucky Derby – California Chrome + Post Race
Horse Racing Published on May 3, 2014
Derby dreams, no matter how unprobable, do come true. Favored California Chrome pulled clear in the stretch to win the May 3 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) by 1 3/4 lengths over Commanding Curve at Churchill Downs before164,906, the second-largest crowd in Derby history.
California Chrome is the first horse bred in the Golden State in 52 years to win the Kentucky Derby, and just the fourth ever. The last Cal-bred victor in the Derby was Decidedly in 1962.
The Santa Anita Derby (gr. I) winner, ridden by Victor Espinoza, got the 1 1/4 miles in 2:03.66 to give his jockey a second Derby victory. Espinoza guided War Emblem to Derby glory in 2002.

Kentucky Derby 2014: $4.7M-earner Perfect Drift to take California Chrome to post
Jennie Rees, USA TODAY Sports 2:21 p.m. EDT May 3, 2014
This is way cool: The pony who is scheduled to accompany Kentucky Derby favorite California Chrome to the post is $4.7 million-earner Perfect Drift.
“Given who he is, and the horse that is the favorite for the Kentucky Derby, I felt like he has the right to take the favorite. He deserves that spot,” said Monnie Goetz – the veteran horsewoman who oversees a large pony operation at the track and who a year ago retrained Perfect Drift for a second career as a racetrack pony to play nursemaid and companion to horses training in the mornings and going to the gate in the afternoons

Thanks BGG. She’s a really cute little filly, a lot like our Zico. Apparently there is another sister. Art Sherman said that Lucky Pulpit’s fee has gone from $2,500. to $10,000.

Dear Max.Yes,Australia will go for the Derby now,may be favourite.Think the St James Palace has been mooted for Kingman and Toast is going for our Derby more likely to be favourite or thereabouts. My cousin saw him on her Good Friday visit to Lambourn, says he was sooo relaxed. Her Majesty will be visiting Normandy for the D_Day anniversary this year so will most probably miss Epsom.Free the Moose!Sheena.
Max
Sheena. Something to look forward to if Toast is there. I like that horse. The Derby distance may also suit Australia better than the 2000. He may be a great horse. Yesterday could have been bad luck for him and Kingman because of the split.
If The Queen heads to France for D Day on June 6, she could still be back for the Derby? It’s June 7. Cannot see her missing that race if she can make it back in time. Any royal racers this year? Is Estimate racing at Ascot?
Max
Sheena. Sorry for all the questions, but who is the guy who is posting all those photos on Moosie’s twitter? What’s up there?

Dear Max.Have no idea who John Hanley is,looks as if they are a group of racegoers out for a bit of fun looking forward to next year’s festival now!Yes I think Estimate is in the Gold cup this year again, have heard the visit to Normandy is for 2 or 3 days so who knows.Do you get a holiday in the US for May Day,It’s a public holiday here tomorrow.Free the Moose!Sheena.
Max
Sheena. I have a vague recollection of a May Day event at day break at Magdalen College followed by strawberries, whipped cream and champagne on the lawn as breakfast. I went once. I’m not exactly sure what we were celebrating as almost everything was an excuse for a party. May 5 in the US is Cinque de Mayo Day to celebrate Mexican heritage, but it’s not a federal holiday.
Enjoy your May Day and take some time to think of freeing the Moose. Neigh x 9.

What an exciting Derby!!!! I got back from out of town, which up at my friends was a blast. Congratulations to a win for Gary Stevens in another graded race.
There was so much talk about California Chrome I was wishing his big Derby race would not be jinxed! Then out the gate all 19 horses came, and suddenly there CC was, in a good spot having to work at it; but wowwee, Sue F and I could not have cheered any more except to go inside the TV to make it happen. And Calf Chrome did it!!!! I really think he is the real thing and he is gorgeous besides. I am sure I was more drained than he. There was such a nice story to it all to; I am happy for the trainer and the owners. Got to love their stable name! hah If I lived in Calf I’d be looking for a logol T shirt for sure.
The heart comes into play and there is the A.P. Indy line in there with Lucky Pulpit which should make A.P. proud.
Then Wise Dan comes through a great obstacle and wins in his race! Now, how spectacular is that. I was so happy for him and now we may be calling him the horse of the year for the third time. It would be deserving.
Hah,hah, I am sure you know all this and I am running on and on, but I am releasing at this point. Now we wait for another two weeks and I really hope Calf Chrome is willing and able and win again in the Preakness on the way to the Triple Crown even though I can not watch it because I will be at my sons wedding!!
hugs to all, Sally B

To Z, 14Z, Coz, Ziconic, Team Z, LE and all Z’sters:
Rest well and sleep warm. Have a lovely week!
I caught a snatch of Dateline this evening on NBC. They did a piece on Lisa’s Booby Trap and her owner/trainer. Very nice story about love, loss and overcoming obstacles.
Lisa’s BT is still training — quite a beauty at 17H.

Remembering can be painful and sometimes without any real benefit. But much of the time it helps us move ahead like a spur that tells us not to tarry but to go on and do what we have to do. It is far too easy to carry around a u s ga nv tsv, a false guilt, a wrong idea, to override our good memories. We lose sight of the positive things we have done and the happiness we have shared by recalling a thousand impossible wishes we wanted to come true. But it does no good to dwarf the present time because the past was not what we hoped it would be. We cannot help but recall things and times and people dear to us-but to remember them with pleasure does them more honor than to focus on what we did or couldn’t do in the past.
Our bare feet are conscious of the sympathetic touch of our ancestors as we walk over this earth.
