Too much gate drama before the Kentucky Oaks for my blood.
The gate loading….almost a complete disaster! After the break, just prayed they all came home safe.
Untappable wins, was unstoppable.
Celeste/ Massachusetts
Yes, I saw it too. I was so worried, but those starters are amazing the way they handled the whole situation. When they showed the view from the front of the starting gate and you could see Empress of Midway sitting up in the gate, it was unbelievable. I have never seen anything like that. But that starter was holding the reins and he basically guided her up and she walked right out.
I am so relieved that they scratched her. It seems she is ok, but I think they did the right thing.
I hope tomorrow won’t have so much drama.
Especially Horses / So Cal
Amen to that!
Alex Bowdoin
The Bruins WON today!! May Wicked Strong (Boston Strong) run a Great Race and ALL come home Safe and Sound!!
Tiz Herself
Am glad that Gary Stevens recovered from that – I watched the replay as I had been at work during the day and didn’t see the footage until after of the Oaks and am thankful he wasn’t seriously hurt (that the horses, too!)
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Especially Horses, Celeste and Z Fans:
A potential disaster avoided, thank God. Scary. Kudos to the starter and gate staff. Love and Hugs, JB

Congrats to Untapable and Rosie N. Love and Hugs, JB
Ann NC
Yes, congrats to Rosie and Untapable.
Great crew and outrider keeping little missy from bolting. Glad she is OK.
Those fillies….Princess, listen to your Mommy!
Alex Bowdoin
Too much NOISE at Churchill! Really upsets the horses!!
Tiz Herself
That big television screen also has to cause some concern for the horses too. I rode a Tennessee Walker once who was very intuitive about his surroundings and he would have had issues if he had seen that television screen.
Terry Crow
There was a movie made years ago named “Wall of Noise” which dealt with this issue. A lot of horses can’t handle it.

Dear Max.Poor Hovis he should come to Wales we have 9million “clouds with legs”he wouldn’t know where to turn!I can’t understand why he isn’t keen on Lilac they are beautiful.I should warn him if 2 dudes are going to snog each other they should make sure no females are watching!!
As for the Fly,I suppose it is a bit soon to decide about his future but I would hate him to carry on just for the sake of it.Miss Power is running in the mares hurdle tomorrow, hope she’s recovered from her festival exertions.I wish WD well tomorrow, did’nt know he was running until this week.Looking forward to our guineas tomorrow and your KY Derby.Free the Moose.Sheena.
Max
Sheena. War Command is taking on more support for the Guineas. The field is deep for that race. Kingman and Australia. Toormore. Hard to call.
Supporting the Big D boys in the KD, but would not be disappointed if Cali wins.
Danny is racing in the Woodford on the KD undercard. Go Danny!
Rest assured that Mullins will only allow The Fly to race if he can win. A jockey change might be a possibility? Too bad AP races pretty much only for McManus. Did you notice that AP has a birthday on Sunday?

Yes Congrats to Untapable. Second fastest Oaks in history!

This is a great story. Moonshine Mullin, a claimer, wins the Alysheba against the likes of Will Take Charge and Golden Ticket. Beautiful ride by Borel.

Great race, congrats to MM.
Now, time for my Will Take Charge to have a rest.
Calvin always makes it exciting!

Dear.Max.Yes,AP is retained by JP will ride for others when allowed,He’s40 this year.A May child like me.I pray there are no more incidents in the stalls,I always remember Grey Pearl a few years ago at Newmarket, very distressing to watch.Free The Moose.Sheena.
Max
Sheena. The story of Grey Pearl is a horrible one.
Moosie has the right approach. He stands perfectly still in the stall. When the gates open, he waits until the other horses race off and the Mooster calmly walks out on his way back to his barn. He acknowledges the cheers of adoring fans as he goes. Clever fellow.

Sheena. Are you aware that Quevega has a full brother in training with Mullins? He has only raced once. He’s a chestnut.

Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Terry
The state of Georgia has the GeorgiaLottery. I hope I am saying this right but about a year or two ago. Some members of the Georgia House wanted to bring legislation to be able to put parimutual wagering to the Georgia voters. That was squelchedfor the time and tabled.
I looked some information on it back because I had remembered reading about it. It seems like they are still optimistic that they can still bring it to a vote because they are getting more and more support for it.
I believe they are wanting to bring a Thoroughbred venue to North Georgia. Somewhere probably a little north of Atlanta. We will see, but it sounds a little more promising than before.
Terry Crow
Peggy-Tracks need slot machine revenue more and more these days to survive. Doesn’t sound like Georgia is ready for that yet.
KathyR
Barbie wins her last race:
Miracles of Life, with Dean Yendall on board (replacing Lauren, by the owners request) has just easily won her last at Morphettville in Adelaide. She jumped well, sat in second, then powered home on the turn. The boys in the studio commented that it was bittersweet, both because it is her last race, but more so because Lauren is not part of it. I reckon little Barbie did it for Lauren, but it feels very flat. At least she will retire without injury. Hugs, KathyR.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Kathy R:
Thanks for this good news on Barbie. Wishing her a healthy, happy life as a mama. Wishing Lauren well too. Love and Hugs, JB
Ann NC
Thanks, Kathy R.
Have always loved these two greats.
Wishing them the best, so deserving!
Terry Crow
Glad for the horse, sad for its former rider, a big zero for the owners.
Marshall (NC broad)
Goodnight all and restful sleep, too.
Sweet dreams, Z and 14Z, Ziconic and Coz!
All the best, always.
Hope every horse and rider races safely tomorrow and comes home unharmed.

Congratulations to Untapable and Rosie N. Great win in the Kentucky Oaks!
Also, Congratulations to Moonshine Mullin and Calvin B. for the Alysheba win!

Big Congratulations go to Fiftyshadesofgold and Mike Smith for their victory in the Eight Belles! Way to go!! Hugs

Dear Marshall: That was a really exciting race – think the lovely Eight Belles would have been impressed. Hugs KathyR

Safe trip today for all the horses and jockeys in the Kentucky Derby!
May 3 Cherokee Devotional
Living catches up with us quickly when we let everything become drudgery. We stop learning. We quit looking with interest, and we stop being aware of our own needs and feelings. Everything becomes routine and nothing new is on the horizon. We blame far too much on age. Age has little to do with the blue fog we let settle over us and the things we usually care about. It is our lack of energy brought about by our lack of vision. It is a lack of interest that dulls memory. A ga yv li, the elderly, are held in high regard in all Indian tribes. They have to remember so they cant ell the young-and they would tell us to watch our mouths so not to speak negatively. They would tell us to renew our vision. They say our potential is unlimited and we will know when something or someone lights our candle.
What is life? It is the flash of a firefly in the night…it is the little shadow which runs across the grass and loses itself in the Sunset.

Dear Kathy.Life is,indeed, very short and we should learn not to waste a moment. Not long until our Guineas, longer for you and the KY Derby will be about II.25pm over here.Weather is fairly quiet at Newmarket and ground is good so no excuses for anyone.Good to see the parents doing their share of incubating,no signs of Blue 24 thank goodness.Did you see the video of them after the egg was laid.Very touching.I was no where near with my date/time!Marty was thrilled with his gift from Germany and his nanner!Poor Fubu was home alone Momma was doing some errands.Good to see Joey having some me-time after such a difficult week.Miss Ellie-Beans is so funny trouble is I can only access her from Marty’s page.Poor Mommy and her gas!!!Have a great day.Enjoy the Derby and pick a winner.Hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.Sheena.
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
I’m all set to enjoy the racing today. Prayers that all the horses and jockeys have a safe trip. I will look for the video of the ospreys and their egg. Still have to check on the FB furbabies. Enjoy your weekend. Hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy.

Dear Max.Shock winner of the 2000 guineas Night Of Thunder at 40-I!!!!Kingman and Australia 2nd and 3rd respectively.I had hoped we would see a superstar today,am disappointed.Australia might be better suited to the Derby.Annie Power won at Punchestown,is 16-I for gold cup next year!Free The Moose.Sheena.
Max
Sheena. WOW! A chestnut upsets the field. Congrats Thunder. And to the Hannons. See that Galileo is his dam sire. Then Annie wins. Another chestnut. Is this a trend?
Left you a message about Quevega’s brother, yet another chestnut. It’d never too late, Mooster.

Dear Peggy:
You’re so welcome. Godspeed to Gabby and Dulce always. Love and Hugs, JB
ArleneW from TX
I was doing a search on Dulce Gema — I used to own a percentage of her dam, Big Gem, and have been trying to find out what’s happened to her. I noticed you made a comment about her to a blog re KY Life. Do you know anything about the whereabouts of this filly?
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Max.The chestnuts are ruling!!Great for Richard Hannon jnr.Yes,I saw your message about Quevega’s brother, sorry I forgot to thank you.Doubt he will be as good as his sister.Annie in the gold cup another Dawn Run?Would be super!!Good luck to Dan tonight and all horses in the Derby.Maybe a shock winner in the US too!!Free the Moose.Sheena
Max
Sheena. Quevega raced 4 times before she won. Vivega is still a baby as jump horses go. We’ll see how he develops. Ms Power has already moved in to leading the diva category. Looks like she had her mane smartly done for the race.
I just watched a video of the guineas. That was quite a race. What a huge race course that is. With those two groups, it was hard to tell who was ahead for most of the race. Kind of confusing. It seems as if there will be no Triple Crown winner again this year. Thunder does not look like a mile and a half horse, but you never know. What happened to Toormore? Talking to Moosie?
Free the Moose. Neigh x 9.
Deb E.
I’ve got my fingers crossed for a Triple Crown run in 2016 by a certain young chestnut we all know and love.
Lara
Hi Zenny fans–I’ve been a lurker on the site since the beginning but haven’t commented before. This is such a lovely crowd of people! I wanted to let you all know in case you’re interested that I’ve launched a website called the Atlas of American Racetracks where I’m trying to document all the racetracks in the country (thoroughbred and harness both). It’s at: http://www.americanracetracks.org I hope some of you will take a look. Happy Derby Day and safe trip to all today.
Max
Very interesting. Will keep an eye on this. Good luck with it.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Lara:
Thank you. Will check it out. Love and Hugs, JB
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Hey Lara, I will check it out.
Debbie G/Kentucky
Happy Derby Day, everyone! I look forward to this day all year. I like California Chrome and Candy Boy is my long shot pick, but as long as it’s a clean race with no injuries I’ll be happy. I’ve already got my DVR set up to tape Kentucky Life tonight. Can’t wait! Love you Zenny and Mini-Zenny!
Max
@Sheena. Abby won! He beat the favorite Tiger Roll at Punchestown. Good for you, Abbyssial. Another win for the chestnuts. Abby’s also a baby, only 4. Except for falling and sidelining the short guy at Cheltenham, Abby has a perfect race win record. He’s owned by a lady. Have to watch Abby’s career.
Deb E.
Wishing safe, healthy journeys to all the horses and riders competing at the Kentucky Derby today. God bless and godspeed!
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Deb E and Z Fans:

Although, I was pulling for Judy the Beauty. Better luck next time girl. Such a beauty you are.

Dear Peggy:
Was rooting for Judy too; just not her day. She finished 4th with JV aboard. Congrats to beautiful Gray, Midnight Lucky and Rosie N. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Celeste,
I am so missing seeing Ring Weekend today, but so hopeful we will see him in the future.
Get better boy.
Terry Crow
He is being listed as probably for the Preakness.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Happy Derby Day to Everyone.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Danny, be so careful today in your race. There talking like everyone is going to be after you. Love Ya Dan.
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Max.Thanks for that about Abby,I,m having difficulty getting a lot of news on racing post but got to see the Annie Power race, she was awesome. It was funny they split into 2 groups because the middle was the better ground. The Rowley mile is very famous. the mile isn’t as straight as it seems.Willie Mullins says the owners of the Fly are going to have a chat about his future.I fancy Vicar’s in Trouble and Dance with Fate in the Derby.Think a lot of the horses shoul have had a chat with Moose today!!Free him!Sheena. They (channel 4 racing) went to visit Frankel at Banstead he looks marvellous and very well-behaved.
Max
Dan did it again! He takes the Woodford. Bravo Danny!
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Max and Z Fans:
Did you see Dan fight through between those two horses. He was bouncing back and forth quite a bit. They did everything they could to block him. A lesser horse and jockey would have given up. Congrats to Danny Boy and JV, What a HORSE! Love and Hugs, JB
Max
JudyB. No horse can out flank our Danny. He’s all muscle. He’s all heart too, a beautiful manly beast. Grand ole chestnut.
The second horse, Seek Again, also a chestnut, is owned by Juddmonte, Frankel’s connections.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Max:
Our Danny is something else. Seek Again, another beautiful Chess Club member. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
Sheena. I don’t understand the rationale of putting the startling gate in the middle of such a wide track. It encourages a split. Lots of criticism of Joe O’Brien for whipping Australia too much. The beak is after him.
I’m thrilled for Abby and Danny. Dan had a poor trip in the Woodford. He was really pulling on Uncle Johnny because Dan just wants to run. It took a long time to settle him. However, Dan will not let another horse take him down, if he has a neigh in it. Go Danny!
