It’s so special that Zenny got her “little” (151 lbs!) girl. They are precious together and especially together with Ann. Love them all.

Dear Sue Noel: Please give Barnaby a big hug from Downunder (and you’d better include Traveller in that too!). Hugs KathyR.

What a fantastic photograph! Thank you, Team Z!

A country road in May hums with activity. Bees comb the clover fields for nectar. Buttercups and dayflowers open to the sun and a mockingbird sets out to mimic every sound it has ever heard-even the baby chick. Wild onions and pink verbena share space and the buttery blooms of buffalo peas nod in spring breezes. Only now the air has warmed to the sun and the plants and leaves of oaks grow so much overnight that the sky closes in like a cocoon. Now is the time to slow down and enjoy the minute changes as they come hourly, the scents, the roadsides filled with new plants, and the green hills and valleys. They come quickly, the di ga ne tli yv s di, changes, that sometimes mature before we see the difference. If we are not careful, our clouded thought and vision shut it out until we have missed the best part.
This brings rest to my heart. I feel like a leaf after a storm, when the wind is still.

Perfect selection and so fitting for many who have weathered the past several days.

Thank you for sharing this information and this most wonderful photo with us. I will look forward to searching for the video after it’s shown in the broadcast area. The photo of Ann with Zenny and Princess 14Z is such a priceless treasure. Thank you.
Connie
Z you are such a sweet Mommy ♥
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
What a wonderful photo of Zenyatta and the Princess! Kyle Acebo has one of the greatest jobs ever! Boo and Buddy are at the Grand Canyon! They’re very stylish in their red shoes. I was hoping we’d see them enjoying the sights and not just in their hotel room. It doesn’t get much more jaw-dropping than the Grand Canyon. Very touching reports of animals being reunited with their owners following the storms in Arkansas. Zoe is in FB jail. Poor baby! There is an adorable video of her practicing walking in her shoes. Marty’s internashnal bizness seems to be going great. We hope you have a wonderful day. Hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy.
zfansandy
Love the photo. Looks like Zenny is being very protective of baby 14 or either trying to hog all of Ann’s attention. Soooo adorable.
I agree giving baby 14 Ann’s name. I was thinking of Zann (or Zannjer to get Jerry in there too.)
Terry Crow
I really like the name Zann. Perfect.

Bluegrassgirl,
Thanks for the KD post positions. I gotta go with Calvin Borel on Curlin’s horse. Oh how many times I’ve wished that Calvin had been on Zenny in 2010. Then Z would have properly been undefeated. Just sayin.
Sally Blank (cherish Z for my lifetime)
No one can go back to then. Calvin is a great jockey, but I think he has rode and made a mistake in a second or two as well don’t you think?
Terry Crow
Agree. There is not a jockey alive who hasn’t made a mistake in a big race.

I am getting such a kick seeing how close that little Princess has to be to the Queen. I’d say they have bonded. It is just so incredibly precious! I hope she darkens up to become the spitting image!!! Her legs are so long and she weighed the most of Zenyatta’s foals so far, that I would venture to guess she could get the size as she matures. I have always thought Ziconic looked like he would be Mom-sized as we’ll. Ultimately, I think we’re going to see that Coz is the smallest of the three.
Sally Blank (cherish Z for my lifetime)
This is such an endearing picture!! (bonded for life) I would love this on my wall!!
What a drastic difference between the baby’s butt and Z’s…….so cute. Thank you so much. Congrats to Z and 14z for making the series of Kentucky Life.

Hoppertunity to Miss Kentucky Derby
By Frank Angst The Blood-Horse May 1 2014
An injured left-front foot will keep Santa Anita Derby (gr. I) runner-up Hoppertunity from competing in this year’s Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I).
Trainer Bob Baffert announced at about 9 a.m. Thursday, May 1, at Churchill Downs that the Rebel Stakes (gr. II) winner and 6-1 second-choice on the Derby morning-line would be scratched.

With Mike Smith without a Derby mount it is the first time since 2003 he has not ridden in the race
Terry Crow
It is my understanding that there was one horse left on the AE list. I’m not sure how the fact that a different horse is going to run affects the post positions. Will this new shooter begin from Hoppertunity’s PP or will it start from number 20?
Sally Blank (cherish Z for my lifetime)
Thanks Bluegrass girl letting us know about Hopportunity. That is way too sad for the horse and for Mike Smith.

Dear Kathy.Am late today ,shopping day!!And it was pouring with rain!It seems Blue 24 is still quite near the Dyfi on a nesting platform about 30 miles away, they’ve had an intruder there today maybe 24?No eggs yet.Boo and Buddy have a better head for heights than me!Marty’s having a birthday party next week,he says he needs a boat now to conduct his internashunal bizness on the great lakes.Grumpy cat had a big party for her 2nd birthday (the terrible 2’s)She wasn’t impressed!Foor Fubu is having problems with FB these days calling it facebutt would leave if it wasn’t for his fans.Have a great day.Hugs to you,Kisses for Holly, Nikko and Sugar.Sheena.

FROM SUE NOEL
(When I saw a mention of Sue from Kathy R, I went back and found this at the end of the previous post. I know lots of folks were concerned about Barnaby and Traveller so here is the good news).
April 30, 2014 at 5:25 pm
Oh Boy–Oh Boy—just LOVE all of the new photos!!! The Princess is regal, indeed–and she looks so sweet–and Wow–those legs–they just go on and on!! Bet she IS going to be like her Mama!! It’s so wonderful to be able to share in these first days!!! And,how perfect that Life is Sweet had her baby the same night!! Hope that means that they will be able to stay together. Such a lovely thing for the Queen to be able to keep up her friendship–I imagine that is a rare thing and I’m sure it is a blessing for her.
Barnaby and Traveller are finally back to normal!! What a relief!! Saturday, when we got down to the barn, they had groomed the arena with a different tractor than usual and the arena was still filled with diesal fumes!!! We got all the tack out and groomed them outside!! I wouldn’t even take Barnaby in to breathe that stuff! It was looking as if it was going to rain any minute so I ended up just grooming him and not saddleing up. Traveller let Sue tack her up and she had a brief, but good, ride. After she rode, she walked Traveller around the barns for a few minutes to eat a little grass, while Barnaby stayed in one of the outdoor small arenas to just run around. When Sue went around the corner of the big indoor arena, and Barnaby couldn’t see her anymore,he started rearing around in the arena and crying in his (as Sue calls it) his “pathetic whinny”. He sounds like a little foal who has lost his Mama–she makes fun of it all the time!! He was just fine as soon as Traveller came back into view–they really are bonded.\
Barnaby has impressed a lot of folks at the barn with his sweet and friendly ways–of course,I LOVE hearing from people about how great he is! Proud mama? You bet!!!
Sue and I are planning to ride in an Obstacle Clinic, on the 17 th of May. It should be really dfun to see how they do seeing all the strange things in the arena and having to approach them all. Most who ride in those are the western riders there–we’ve decided to dress up in our full English regalia,as though we were going to a fox hunt!! We told them we’ll be the comic relief!!
Max,loved your mentioning Ribot! I think I mentioned before that my little TB Faded Rosebud, called Rosie, was Ribot’s grand-daughter–and,of course,as such,Bold Ruler’s great grand-daughter! She DID have Ribot’s temperment!! She was really a pistol!! She never DID enjoy being ridden and was mostly a “pasture ornament” all of her life. If I have not told the story about how she saved her own life, after aspirating a carrot, let me know and I will. It was really something!!
Loved the Big D videos, and the one about all of the Heroic Animals!!WELCOME BACK,KathyR–will tell Barnaby you’re back! I used to tell him about you and give him your messages!
Sweet dreams and peace to all—may no one suffer from the weather tonight!!!
Terry Crow
Thanks for posting this, Sandy. When the threads come as fast as they have been lately, we tend to forget what came before.
Sally Blank (cherish Z for my lifetime)
Hi Sue Noel! Good to hear all about Barnaby and Traveler. They sound so much like our two old horses Fancy and Frito at the Sanctuary who are so so bonded. They are always together like peas in a pod.
I do not think I ever heard the story of the carrot. That should be a real stitch when everyone sees the two of you in English wear! hah
hugs, Sally B
Max
Would love to hear about a horse from the Ribot family.

Thank you, Team Z for the lovely May Day treat.
Ann, Zenny and their Princess, how cute.
Will look forward to the “KY Life” series featuring, Zenyatta.

ATTENTION Hovis fans on Facebook!!! His Mum is looking for quotes to be included in the promos for his new book. We need some international participation in this. Check out his fan page and add some thoughts :-)

I am a Hovis fan but I refuse to go on Facebook for any reason.

Well if you’d like to say something (appropriate) to be supportive, I’d be glad to be your scribe :-)

Sandy-It is nice of you to offer. This has nothing to do with Hovis. It is all about Facebook. I will probably be the last holdout ever, of those alive today..

I agree, Terry and Max, Facebook can be such a pain, that I regularly think about cancelling my account. But then I’d have to lose about 90% of the contact I have with a number of long-time friends, and that would not be good for them or me. And several old friends I had lost touch with, reconnected after they found me on FB. I keep my FB privacy controls tight, and haven’t had any problems. I get sick of the ads. But I like other things, like seeing all the new photos Barbara Livingston posts, almost every day. And being connected to other Zenyatta fans/groups. So overall, it’s worthwhile for me.

That baby can’t seem to get close enough to her mama.
Long legs could mean lots of speed in years to come. My wishes are for a healthy life for both mare and filly.

Barbara Wood (Texas)
@Sandy–thank you for having our backs again. I remember seeing that and wanted to go back, but when a new post comes on, we all seem to bolt in spasms of love for Zenny and foal. We just can’t help ourselves.
@Sue Noel–so glad your two are better. They surely do bond with others.

There will be a special also on Coz tonight on Wave3, titled, Zenyatta’s First Foal Ready to Roll: http://www.wave3.com/story/25397259/thursday-at-11-zenyattas-first-foal-ready-to-roll
It mentions the initial airing time as 11 tonight, and then a repeat on Sunday. Also, the link to view the replay at their site I believe will be available on Friday.
Zenyatta’s fan appeal just continues to get stronger and stronger. What fun over the next few years to follow her foals. While we all hope they are super-stars, it will matter not if they aren’t as spectacular as she was on the track. Thanks to Team Z for continuing to share this amazing mare’s story. She is truly a gift from God. Hugs to all and best of luck to all the Derby and Oaks runners for safe trips, including all of the undercard runners.

How about a zenyatta 5 K here in Los Angeles, with monies donated to california thoroughbred rescue? No one has done anything like this to my knowledge?
Sally Blank (cherish Z for my lifetime)
Hi Zsters; I sure hope we do not hear any more bad news of any more horses that have to withdraw from the derby. The run for the roses is just about upon us.
In the April 26 Bloodhorse appeared an excellent article going back 25 years and the triple crown. This is when there were two TB’s , Sunday Silence and Easy Goer that battled in each of the three races. Both had been favorites to win.
You can view the video of Arthur Hancock III and audio of trainer Shug McGaughey by visiting Bloodhorse.com/TripleCrown.
I found it under TripleCrown race history once I entered the above. I really like going back into racing history and I thought if you haven’t had a chance to read this article, you’d like to go to Bloodhorse.
I pray for all horses and riders safety this Fri and big Derby day.
hugs, Sally B

It IS sad Sheena – I’m so sorry for all of her fans and connections. She had a great run (I know that is of little comfort at the moment). Hugs,

Sheena. I share your reaction. Second is still good. Some pundits are blaming the short one for misjudging the pace. I wonder if she will be sold. Mullins once said that her owners were only interested in racing. They own Thousand Stars too. He seems to have turned the corner and is back to his winning ways. Wonderful gray. Going to miss that diva horse. Will not forget her.

Quevega retired after Jetson springs surprise
By Andrew Dietz Racing Post.com 1 MAY 2014
QUEVEGA has been retired after agonisingly missing out on a fifth successive victory in the day three feature as the Jessica Harrington-trained Jetson gatecrashed the Punchestown party.
Try as she might, the supermare could not close the gap on trailblazing Jetson (20-1), who owes a big chunk of the glory to the tactical nous of jockey Davy Russell.
In losing her crown, Quevega suffered her first defeat since May 2009, ten races ago, when she finished ninth in Auteuil’s Prix La Barka and the rare reversal spells the end of a magical career

What a gorgeous photo of the Queen, her princess and Mrs. Moss! Thank you so much for posting it for all to see.
This filly definitely looks like she’s born to run! It’s going to be such a joy to watch her grow and eventually strut her stuff on the track.
Hope everyone enjoys Oaks Day and Derby Day.
Love,
