Zenyatta Delivers Her Fourth Filly

VERSAILLES, KY — (June 10, 2023) It’s a girl! There was great joy last night in welcoming ZENYATTA‘s eighth foal, a beautiful filly by War Front. She arrived during sunset, 9:18 PM, at Lanes End Farm. The foaling was filled with ease and elegance and both mom and baby are in excellent health and exude happiness. Zeny’s new filly has legs for days and sports a blaze to match her mother’s. 

In attendance were Zenyatta’s co-owner, Ann Holbrook (Moss) as well as Farm Manager Todd Claunch, Broodmare Manager Jenn Laidlaw, and with Tremendous gratitude to the veterinarians from both Rudd and Riddle and Hagyard and the entire farm staff at Lanes End Farm for their beyond ordinary incredible love and caring! Ann is overjoyed to welcome this beautiful filly to Zenyatta’s family. This will be Zenyatta’s last foal as she is being retired as a broodmare.

    Hope you are in fine shape sweet girl and enjoying life. Nymue keeps you on your toes, I’m sure. She sure is growing fast, and like her mama, she is a beauty!
    Tomorrow it will be November — can’t believe it! I do hope you got some special treats for Halloween. We love you dear girl!!

    It’s disheartening to be here at Breeders’ Cup week with no forum, no current security on the website, and no updates since Nymue’s birth.

    Zilkha breezed today, 4f in 49.80, handily, her sixth in the last 60 days.

    Prayers for Geaux Rocket Ride, whose life is hanging in the balance as recovery from his surgery is not going well (and the media can’t get their facts straight about him either).

    And RIP to Practical Move; I was looking forward to seeing what he could do on Saturday.

    As for Arcangelo, I’m pretty disappointed in the decision to retire him with what seems to be a fairly minor hoof problem. But I hope to see him in the near future at the farm and wish him all the best!

        Oh dear, I just saw on The Bloodhorse site that Geaux Rocket Ride was euthanized. Apparently he had an unusual response to the surgery and was never able to get up. This is so heartbreaking.
        Condolences to all connections. 😞
        RIP Geaux Rocket Ride. Run free and happy with the angels.

    Such sad stories. Geaux Rocket Ride was to be Mike’s mount in the BC Classic. He still has Tamara, Beholder’s fillie, and forgot the name of the other one. He’s hoping to add to his terrific total of Classic wins.

    Cody’s Wish survives a lot of bumping by National Treasure, who tried to gate to wire, and the resulting inquiry, to win the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile for a second time and go out a winner!

      Dear Rebecca,
      I saw that race — Cody’s Wish came a-running, didn’t he? I couldn’t believe there was an inquiry! Glad they ruled it out. I think there would have been a tremendous hue and cry from the crowd if they had goofed on this.
      CONGRATS to Cody’s Wish, Junior Alvarado, Bill Mott and of course to Cody and his family! I do so love a happy ending!!

    Zenyatta! They spoke of you at the Breeders Cup racing yesterday and they should.
    You were amazing and loved by all. For you to become the only female to ever win the Breeders Cup Classic is such an honor!!

        Dear. Zenyatta. I haven’t written in awhile but I do check in. You are always and forever in my heart. I’m hoping you love your retirement and that you got pears and apples and anything your heart or tummy desires.
        I have a new retired racemare I care about very much . She is now living the good life too, but in the west.
        She may become a mom in the future and I hope she will be as good a Mama as you have been. Thank you to all at Lanes End who love and care for you.

      I just saw that news, also. Cody’s Wish won that last race for his dear friend, Cody D. They were always on the same wavelength so I think CW knew the time was short.
      Sending heart-felt prayers and condolences to the wonderful Dorman family and to the entire Cody’s Wish Team. What a gift and what a ride!

        Excuse the typo — that should be “. . . and it went through.”
        I had attempted to respond twice to the post about Zilkha’s workout only to have it not appear.
        I guess we should prepare for other strange things since the certificate has not been renewed. We are now at 4 months expired.
        It does not bode well for our favorite blog. 😟
