VERSAILLES, KY — (April 20, 2014) It’s a girl! Zenyatta’s third foal was born last night at Lane’s End Farm. The bay filly by War Front arrived at 12:03 am, just in time for Easter. She has one white sock and a blaze.
The foaling, Zenyatta’s third in three years, went smoothly. In attendance were Zenyatta’s owners, Jerry and Ann Moss, Dr. Holder from Hagyard Equine Medical Institute, as well as Farm Manager Mike Cline, Broodmare Manager Charles Campbell, and others from Lane’s End Farm. The Mosses are overjoyed to welcome the latest member of Zenyatta’s family. The loving mother and full-of-life foal enjoyed a beautiful and sunny Easter day.
Zenyatta has previously delivered colts by Bernardini and Tapit. Cozmic One, born in 2012, is now in training at Mayberry Farm in Ocala, FL. Ziconic, the recently-named chestnut colt by Tapit, is a yearling under the care of Lane’s End Farm.
Thanks to the Zenyatta fans who have kept watch, posted comments, and sent good wishes!

April 20 Cherokee Devotional
An idea is a rare butterfly that leads us through visual and spiritual experiences, and brings us out of the woods changed and ready to do something we never dreamed possible. Most people catch hold of ideas and immediately say they take too much time and money to be worth the effort. A quick excuse has cut more people out of doing a profitable and rewarding deed than all their other work put together. Fear of failure chips away at self-confidence until there is no heart to step into new territory. One needs the mind of a child to forget what happened an hour ago. If we cannot forget, we put it aside until we get to a place where we can understand. Otherwise, our creativity knows no bounds. We are caught up in a world of imagination-the thing that blesses all great inventors-playing what-if and finding great treasure.
The Cherokees’ tribal vitality would again save them, as it had throughout their history.

Peace like a river…Feel it, think it, see it.Peace that flows not in wild frothy turbulence but in smooth currents that will not toss the smallest boat. Think of peace that so permeates our entire being, a peace that is closer than our hands and feet, closer even than our breathing. To hi ge se s di came with great difficulty to the Cherokee. Peace on earth seems distant to almost anyone in any age, but it is still sought, and the lack of it still affects each of us personally. Stress raises our blood pressure, makes our hearts race and our ears roar with panic. We can stop right here and now and put it all down. Speak the words of old that stopped a storm, “Peace be still.” It worked centuries ago and its power is still intact. Say it many times a day to stop the negative flow that intends to sweep us away.
I am Dekanawidah, and with the Five Nations confederate lords I plant the Tree of the Great Peace.

A Birthday Poem for Kathy
(April 21, 2014)
On the first day of Eastertide
Zenyatta, our treasured smarty,
Did decide
’Twas time to hold a “coming out” party–
O’er which she herself would preside–
For her little Princess Z,
Who till then had always resided
Sequestered inside her.
Scarce had the Queen’s retinue
The candles blown out
On Princess Z’s cake,
Than we turn about
The celebration, dear Kathy, with you
To now continue
On your own special date.
I believe your day normally starts
Reading a treasured legacy
Of thoughts from the Cherokee,
Wise words which still today, one finds,
Inspire our minds
And touch our hearts.
In contrast to this quiet contemplation,
Comes ceaseless animation,
Accompanied by an orchestration
Of whines and barks
From your doggies, Sugar, Nikko and Holly.
That’s their usual lively way
To deal with events of the day,
For they on the whole are quite jolly,
And they keep you on your toes,
As heaven only knows.
It will be no surprise
If each of the trio tries
With soft, pleading eyes
A piece of your birthday cake
From you to prize,
So let me give them a word to the wise.
Dear puppy pack,
I don’t think you should snack
On that sweet treat,
No matter how yummy,
For if you eat from Kathy’s cake,
You just might
Wake
In the middle of the night,
Feeling quite crummy
With an ache
In your tummy—
And especially a chocolate cake
I’d caution you to forsake.
Now, dear “Kate,”
We hope you’ll have a wonderful day,
And, as the Irish would say,
When you walk your puppy pack,
May the wind be gentle on your back,
And may the sun softly shine on your face
As you a new year of life embrace.
Happy birthday, Kathy, and many, many happy returns!
Kathy
Thank you Trina from the bottom of my heart! Hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy

@Trina–I think this is your finest creation yet. Zenny and mini-Z–you are awesome. In fact, though there is no such word, I have decided to make it one. You are all three the “superbest”. (not as in “super”, but as in “superb”). Love and hugs.
Trina Nagele in So Cal
Oh, superb-est! A great coinage, Barbara, and I’m glad you explained it because I misread it at first.
