VERSAILLES, KY — (April 20, 2014) It’s a girl! Zenyatta’s third foal was born last night at Lane’s End Farm. The bay filly by War Front arrived at 12:03 am, just in time for Easter. She has one white sock and a blaze.
The foaling, Zenyatta’s third in three years, went smoothly. In attendance were Zenyatta’s owners, Jerry and Ann Moss, Dr. Holder from Hagyard Equine Medical Institute, as well as Farm Manager Mike Cline, Broodmare Manager Charles Campbell, and others from Lane’s End Farm. The Mosses are overjoyed to welcome the latest member of Zenyatta’s family. The loving mother and full-of-life foal enjoyed a beautiful and sunny Easter day.
Zenyatta has previously delivered colts by Bernardini and Tapit. Cozmic One, born in 2012, is now in training at Mayberry Farm in Ocala, FL. Ziconic, the recently-named chestnut colt by Tapit, is a yearling under the care of Lane’s End Farm.
Thanks to the Zenyatta fans who have kept watch, posted comments, and sent good wishes!

Kathy, Sue lost her husband several years ago but continued to have a close relationship with his mother.
Kathy
Dear Sandy,
Thank you for that information. We always think the children will survive the parents, don’t we?
Kathy
Dear Sue,
I’m so sorry. I presumed your husband was still here. Take comfort that your mother-in-law is reunited with her son again. You will be with them again one day. We have that hope.
Hugs, Kathy

Thanks again everyone yes Brian and his Mom are together again. Ruth did take his death very hard in fact she became very depressed and kind of gave up taking care of herself. That is why she ended up in the nursing homes at a kind of young age. Ruth was so active until that happen. It is a very hard thing to overcome. I work on it everyday. I just know he wants me to be happy so that is what I try to do each day.
My trip will be in 3 weeks. Say a prayer for my fur-buddies. I love you guys.

April 23 Cherokee Devotional
Some of the best successes have been those that came on the spur of the moment-something we caught hold of and lightly carried through with the air of having done it a thousand times. How does it happen, when we so often hear that all-too-familiar thud? It is the consensus of the Cherokee that the heart, the u na wi, the spirit of anything should not be heavy when we are dealing with the substance of the Great Spirit. The underlying di ka no di, or material to work with, must be handled and carried with hands that a da la du di, worship the Source of light and not the darkness. When we are too serious about our own importance we labor under heaviness, and the way is so slow we begin to doubt. Never doubt Yoweh, and the Great Spirit will carry through.
You said you would enlarge the fire…add more fuel to make it brighter…

Dear Kathy.Still pretty dull in Wales, the rain we had in the south has moved up to the dyfi now. They are a picture of domestic bliss! Joey is loving his new couch, was’nt he a lucky boy to get that beautiful shawl from Margaret in Scotland?Zoe looks so cute in her new dress pretty in pink, her Zoeisms are brilliant!I hope Marty doesn’t eat all those yogis he’ll be one fat rat!Fubu is doing well these days glad all his meds are helping.Am looking forward to the big meet at Sandown on Saturday last big day of the jumps season.Have a lovely day.Hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.Sheena.BTW hope Audrey is still making a good recovery.
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Sorry the weather is still gloomy. Grateful for the ospreys’ domestic bliss! Joey looks very comfy in that nice outdoor living area. Very nice of Margaret to send the beautiful shawl all the way from Scotland! Zoe is a fashion plate. Love that little girl. Her Zoeisms are very timely. I think Marty is getting a little chunky. I know it would be hard to refuse him anything, but in the interest of his health his parents really should slim him down a bit. So glad Fubu’s meds are working. I hadn’t checked on Zeus McGoose in a while. There are some adorable Easter pics of Zeus, Zoey and Bailey. Enjoy Sandown! Have a wonderful day. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy

OK, time to break the reverent tone of the blog. This is somewhat of a horse joke, but I warn everyone in advance that it is not for everybody. A man staggers into the emergency room with a concussion, multiple bruises and a five iron wrapped around his neck. Naturally, the doctor asks him what happened. “Well, it was like this,” said the man. “I was having a quiet round of golf with my wife, when we both sliced our shots into a horse paddock. We went to look for our golf balls and while I was rooting around I noticed that the horse had something white in its rear end. I walked lover to it and lifted up its tail and sure enough there was a golf ball with my wife’s monogram stuck in the middle of the horse’s butt. That’s when I made my mistake.” ‘What did you do?” asked the doctor. “Well, I lifted the horse’s tail, pointed, and yelled to my wife, Hey, this looks like yours.” Sorry, but you were warned.

@ Sally B–I don’t know if I was the closest or not. Someone may have guessed 12:01 or something;but,it was fun to be so close!!
Last Saturday,Sue and I had the most wonderful rides! It was a gorgeous morning and we always go early,so no one was around. We put out some tall poles in the arena and laid out a serpentine course–also put some of the big plastic barrels out. It was our first ride out in the BIG outdoor arena and it was a blast! After we were through, our Mr. Needle Man came to give their spring shots. He gave them in their chests this time, instead of their necks, telling us they couldn’t be ridden until the next day and that they might feel punk the next day.
When we went down on Sunday, they didn’t even want their treats!! They stood looking at us like they were saying “we feel like —- (put in your own favorite four letter word there)—“why did you let that guy DO that to us—-fix it!” Obviously,we couldn’t ride them. We led them into the indoor arena and groomed them, comforting them all the while. We led them around and they ate a little grass and seemed to perk up a bit. By the time we left,Barnaby had perked up quite a bit and was able to eat a couple of apples, but Traveller was very listless. Many other horses had also had their shots,so we knew that Katie would be checking on them all and would call us if there was a real problem.
This morning,Sue was scheduled for a lesson,so I was eager to hear how the “babies” were. She said that both of their chests were swollen and that Barnaby would let her touch his, but that Traveller has about a six inch swelling that is so sensitive that when she touched it, she jumped back.squealing and bucking, and then did want her to touch her again. She thinks that Sue is the one who hurt her!! Poor things! She hopes that we’ll be able to ride them on Saturday—we’ll see!. I feel for them,I hate to see them unhappy in any way—after all–my whole purpose in having Barnaby is to make him happy!!! I kept telling him on Sunday that we were trying to help them and keep them safe from bad diseases but I don’t think he understood that at all–kind of looked at me as if to say “yeah, yeah, yeah!” Hope he will have forgiven me by Saturday!!!
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
OH no! So sorry to hear that the shots had lasting effects Sue. Has this happened before? It sounds sort of strange to me (who knows absolutely NOTHING about this, of course). Hope the swelling subsides and they feel better soon. Would hate to have them “mad at you” (like that’s going to happen) or for you not to be able to ride this weekend :-( Give them pets from me and all of us.

Dear Sue:
Sorry to hear Barnaby and Traveler had bad reactions to their shots. Hope they feel better soon. It’s so difficult to give them something that will protect them from future health problems and then see them miserable and not feeling well. My vet has to give my little poodle, Lola Mae, Benadryl before every vaccination she has or she becomes very ill from the shots. Found this post on Benadryl and horses. Maybe something to run by the vet. Love and Hugs, JB

So sorry to hear about the vaccine reactions. Last year our young Saluki had a frightening reaction to his firstadult booster shots. Benadryl helped a bit, but he needed a cortisone shot the next morning after a sleepless night for him and me.
This year we did titers, and he is still safe, thank goodness. We were relieved that the rabies vaccination, followed by Benadryl, didn’t bother him, but we dread having to vaccinate this boy again one day.

Hi Sue, Barnaby and gang.

So sorry, I hope they get well soon!

Sue. I hope that Barnaby and Traveller will recover soon from their ordeal. I detest any kind of vaccination and avoid them whenever possible.
What kind of apple is the current favorite of Barnaby? I eat a Fuji each day for lunch and think of the horse who loves them.
Vicki B. near Hollywood Park
Sue, thanks for the story. Altho it is sad for the horses having to be ill just from the shots — no way they can understand that! I have to wonder if there isn’t something wrong with the shots themselves, if they cause so much pain — maybe they are not sophisticated enough, yet, and need more development work, really.
Barbara Wood (Texas)
@Sue–thanks for the update on Barnaby and Traveller. I am sure Hovis would sympathize. They will forgive you, no doubt, but it is hard to see them miserable. Hugs.

@ Sheena-Thanks so much for your message–I am going to tell Barnaby and Traveller on Saturday how many folks have sent kind messages for them. I always tell them their messages and they look at me as though they know that I am telling them something special.
Was so interested in your message the other day about the Queen’s birthday!! I have loved her since she was a teenager!! I may have mentioned before that I wrote to her when Prince Charles was born, wanting to send a gift. I got a lovely letter back from her lady-in-waiting explaining that they could not accept gifts, but with a lovely thank you for my wanting to send one. I think she is so beautiful,still-and is such a perfect reflection of monarchy at its very best! I have read every book about her that I can get my hands on. I surely hope she outlives me,as I cannot imagine the world without her in it!
The love of my life was a former RAF fighter pilot, who flew in the Battle of Britain ,and who in his long career flew everything from Tiger Moths to jets, who was friends with the Queen Mum. He had the most beautiful photo of the Queen in his home, that I have ever seen, which he himself had taken, when she was a young mother. Although she rarely does it,she signed it for him, since she loved the photo too,and he had given her a print of it. I still think of her as that glorious young woman, even though she is now 88! When Sue scolds me for forgetting my helmet, which I sometimes do,I tell her–this is the way the Queen rides!!
Would love to come “across the pond’ again–to Hovis–and you–and maybe to catch a glimpse of Her Majesty at some function or other. Wouldn’t that be great???
Bet you’re sound asleep by now, hope you are having a lovely and peaceful night!! I think of you so often!! I love telling Barnaby about his friend all the way over in Wales!!

Thanks, Sue. I enjoyed your story about the Queen. I also very much liked the Queen Mum, and was so glad she practically lived forever.

Sue-As one of your admirers on the blog, here’s hoping all is well with Barnaby and Traveller ASAP.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Does anyone know the answer to this question. We had talked about it before.
It is just bothering me that I don’t know who it is.
I have visited Three Chimneys Farm. I know they are one farm that does ride some of their horses. Well they use to. I assume they still do.
I know they ride Flower Alley
But, there was one horse that it was said that they rode a lot and he liked to be riden.
I can’t remember who that was and none of the stallions On their roster sounds like him. Don’t know if he has moved to another farm or has passed away.
Does anyone remember who this horse was.
He was a very popular horse. I know it wasn’t Point Given, as he did not like being riden. I know Rahy has passed but don’t think it was him or was it.
Does anyone remember
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Max
Yeah, One thing for sure we all know it wasn’t Dynaformer…………………..
Sure wish he would have been in his stall when I was there, but didn’t get to see him.
I was at Claiborne the next day and someone was saying they were out there and he was giving one girl fits that was trying to handle him.
Love remembering him. What a guy he was.
I was just looking at a picture of Americain, Wow he is sure a good looking fellow too.
Wonder how his temperment is.
Max
Peggy. This might be it. Agree about Big D. No one messed with Big D.

Max,
Oh My Gosh, Wonderful Video. Hadn’t seen that. Just fantastic.
They sure did look like they were enjoying themselves. They sure did look good.
Thanks Max so much.
There was another one that liked being riden too, but I am at a loss for who that was. He might be gone though, now.
That video was great, will save it.
Janet Newman
Peggy,
I think it was Lewis Michael and he is now at Questroyal in Stillwater, NY.
At least he is one I remember that looked forward to being ridden and would get excited when he saw the rider come in.
Janet
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Janet
Yes, Thank you so much. That was him. Thanks so much. I really like him.
Sure didn’t know he was gone.
And, you know I knew someone here knew. Just couldn’t remember who. So Sorry. Knew a few years back we were talking about this.
I just knew none of the horses on Three Chimneys roster was the one I was thinking of.
Janet your the best. So glad your here.
I am going to look him up. Hope they have a website where he’s at now.

Today is Artie Schiller’s birhtday.
Is it hewho really liked to be riden. I am trying to remember. But he was never at Three Chimneys I don’t believe. I wonder if it was him that somebody was saying still liked to be riden. Wish I could remember. He is at Win Star I believe.
Terry Crow
Three Chimneys at one time had Silver Charm in residence before he moved. He will be back at the end of his stud career. It is my understanding that he liked to be ridden. Could this be the one?.

@ Sandy!! No-this has never happened before. Will not allow Barnaby to have a shot in the chest again–Sue feels the same way. More than the riding,I just want my boy to FEEL better!!
