VERSAILLES, KY — (May 17, 2020) Zenyatta gave birth to a chestnut filly by Candy Ride this morning at Lane’s End Farm. The foal, Zenyatta’s sixth, arrived at 5:40 a.m. ET, weighing 148 lbs. She has one hind sock and a star.
Zenyatta and her filly are both in excellent health following an easy delivery. It brings us such joy to see them bonding in their paddock on this beautiful day.
We would like to express a sincere thank you to Zenyatta’s veterinary team and staff at Lane’s End for their dedication to the wellbeing of Zenyatta and her new foal.

Dear Judy,
Thanks for the link to the article about River Deep — he is very handsome. It’s good to know there are races being run at Colonial Downs — Yay for Virginia! My almost native state. ❤︎
I noticed some sad news on the Bloodhorse site:
https://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/242580/group-1-winner-defoe-suffers-fatal-injury
Condolences to Roger Varian and all who loved this wonderful boy. RIP Defoe.
He was a beautiful gray and apparently a very nice horse — sweet that they had made a rocking horse in his likeness for Roger Varian’s children.

Yay, Colonial Downs. So happy that track is hanging in there and with some good horses, trainers and jockeys!
The jockey for RD is F Boyce and he is a good one.
Thanks for sharing. Very exciting.
Marshall, hope you and pups made it through storms OK. One of my pups was in bed with me all night…..me be so tired today..BOOM!!!!

Dear Neighbor Ann,
We had BIG booms late this afternoon. Bailey and Fenn were very uneasy with all the fireworks from Mother Nature. We got a fair amount of rain, too. There was more booming this afternoon than last night. I guess the grass will take off growing again now!
Hope you got a nap today. ?

Judy,
Thanks for the news about River Deep. Hope he did well and returned safely.
Enable is a real star. Thank goodness they are letting the mares race past 3 and
getting a real fan following. How old is she now?
Tomorrow is going to be so exciting. Gosh, there are so many good stakes races. Know what I am going to be doing all afternoon. So happy to be able to see Midnight B!
Everyone be safe and have a great weekend.
judy berube
Dear Shirlee:
River finished 4th out of 4. In his defense, he may have needed that one as it was his first race since November last year. Will be rooting for him when he goes again.
Yes, Enable is amazing. She’s six years old now.
Looking for big efforts from Code of Honor and McKinzie tomorrow. Godspeed all; safe and sound. Love and Hugs, JB
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Happy Friday everyone!
A little late to the party here, but I with all of you who thought that Stradi’s race was just outstanding! I was so excited (and nervous) watching it. Seemed to me like there was a concerted effort to box him in! I am not at all happy to hear, however, that his owners have their eye on the Arc. I just can’t imagine having Enable and Stradi in the same race (I believe that Frankie is going with Enable no matter what, but where does that leave our beautiful boy?). This is not good. On top of that, Price from Mill Ridge was telling us that a filly named Love (trained by guess who) will have a distinct advantage as far as assigned weights are concerned!
OK – Hovey earned some “good horse” points this week although I found it a little hard to follow. Upon posting an inquiry to his scribe, the bottom line is that he had to save Bob twice from the same terror (maybe you will figure that out faster than I did!). Bob apparently has a short memory :-)

Lots of racing this weekend – hope everyone enjoys and does well.

Dear Sandy and Z Fans:
Was curious about Love, the filly you mentioned who is to go up against Enable and Stradi, so I checked out her pedigree. She is a three year old daughter of Galileo out of Pikaboo, who has Danehill and Danzig in her line. Yes, she’s trained by A O’B.
Should be quite a race. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Marshall and Z Fans:
Yes, nice win by Mystery Banker and Joe Ortiz.
I think Midnight Bisou missed her “smooches” from Mikey today. Nice effort though and valiant win by Vexatious and Jose Lezcano.
Improbable was brilliant today in his Whitney win. The favorite, Tom’s d’Etat, stumbled at the start and finished fourth. Hope Code of Honor is OK; he finished third.
Also nice win by Everfast today and Joel Rosario. Congrats to all of them and hope they all came back safe and sound. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Z Fans;
I had the order of finish wrong in the Whitney. Tom’s d’Etat was 3rd and Code of Honor finished 4th.

Lexitonian, one of Calumet’s boys ran a great second today in the Bing Crosby. What a warrior he is. He’s shipped to at least nine different tracks in his 13 starts.
Mckinzie was scratched, so the race was pretty much wide open.
Love and Hugs, JB
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Judy and Shirley,
Lexitonian did a fine job — I thought he might make it! Alas, it was so close.
Congrats to him and connections.

Coz has a lot of new pictures to view on DeSousa’s FB. Very nice with a professional photographer.
Disappointed at MB’s loss but she is happily hamming it up this AM! No smooches from Mike and interference didn’t aid the race either. Jeff Bloom is a first-class owner though congratulating the winner and her connections last night. That’s why MB is so easy to love.
I wish Hard Not to Love and her connections good wishes this evening. I felt empathy for JS and Mike in the loss of Honor AP. They had been talking about how he reminded them of Giacomo.
Most of all, safe trips for one and all. Lindal

Time is going by so quickly and weaning time will come soon. I hope there will be more pictures and articles about our Zenny and her beautiful filly before they are separated. We do appreciate all that is done and just love to hear of Zenyatta and all her babies.

Sandy,
Thanks for another delightful Hovis! Nothing brightens up a day like he does.
Very strange results from Saturday’s racing. Think MB needed her Mikey. Tom did so well to finish 3rd after going to his knees at the start. Just goes to show that anything can happen in a race. Such a blessing to have the races on TV all weekend.
Hope all are doing well and y’all on the East Coast are safe from the storm. We are having wonderful weather here in Indy. A high of 73 today with some sun, and of course afternoon showers. Great change from high 80s and all the humidity.
Safe trip to all the horses this weekend. And a special good luck wish for Tiz The Law.
judy berube
Dear Shirlee:
We’re under a storm warning this afternoon of high winds; hoping we don’t lose power. Very hot and humid here.
Hope you’re doing well too. Join you in wishing all the horses Godspeed, safe and sound. Love and Hugs, JB
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Judy,
Hope you don’t get battered by the storm and that the power stays on for you.
It was hot and humid here before the storm, but today is quite pleasant for August in NC.
My cable/internet went out yesterday afternoon (not storm related, I think) and finally came back around 10 last night. Very strange not to have TV or computer — thankfully my little radio provided musical background!
Stay safe, my friend.
Hugs and Love

Dear Marshall:
Power went off and came right back on again. So far so good. Still very hot and humid. Have been doing without AC until the storm passes. Should be able to turn it back on soon. Sweltering!
I always keep batteries for my radio too, just in case. Hope you and our Ann stay safe and cool. Love and Hugs, JB

Hi neighbor,
Extremely fortunate here in my neck of the woods.
My heart goes out to the ones less fortunate. Bad tornadoes and the coast did take a hit.
Enjoy the cooler temps. Now, no more hurricanes for the season….!!!

Dear Z Fans:
Was just browsing for photos of queen B’s 2020 filly by War Front, who was born in January. Found this one of her taken in May. Don’t know if you’ll agree, but the resemblance to Z Princess at that age took my breath away and brought tears. Even her conformation as a little tyke is so similar I think.
God bless you little girl as you progress on your journey.
