Zenyatta Delivers a Candy Ride Filly

VERSAILLES, KY — (May 17, 2020) Zenyatta gave birth to a chestnut filly by Candy Ride this morning at Lane’s End Farm. The foal, Zenyatta’s sixth, arrived at 5:40 a.m. ET, weighing 148 lbs. She has one hind sock and a star.

Zenyatta and her filly are both in excellent health following an easy delivery. It brings us such joy to see them bonding in their paddock on this beautiful day.

We would like to express a sincere thank you to Zenyatta’s veterinary team and staff at Lane’s End for their dedication to the wellbeing of Zenyatta and her new foal.

    Thanks for the photo of Zellda. She is one beautiful girl.

    Just saw that Max is going to carry 127 pounds in the race. Seems a little much but again hope he does well. Poor guy deserves some breaks.

        Dear Shirlee and Marshall:

        Shirlee, I saw that weight for Maxi. That’s five lbs more than two entrants; six lbs over another; seven and eight lbs over the remaining two entrants. I hope Maxi can overcome that disadvantage.

        Rooting hard for him. Love that boy.

    A gorgeous photo of Queen Z on Lane’s End FB. I recently learned that horses have excellent night vision and are capable of seeing 360 degrees! How awesome is that?! Lindal

    Happy Friday everyone,
    Hope all is well for all of us Z fans. Thanks for the beautiful picture, Judy. There have been some of our “not-so-little” filly on Lane’s End social media, and someone was lucky enough to SEE Z and foal on a regular shuttle tour. She posted them on Zenyatta’s FB page.

    Hovey has been out and about again (way too early in his view) with Bob and the two Mums. Bob seems to have been the hero of their terrifying run in with a machine. He is his usual hilarious self.

    Enjoy the weekend! Hope Max does well, but my heart may be with John’s Midcourt whom I met at Santa Anita.

      Great story Judy. Hope he holds on to the horse and doesn’t put him up to be claimed. It is refreshing to see these “little guys” succeed.

      Good luck and safe trip to your guy Max. I had to go with S Samurai as his sire is a Claiborne stallion and the sire of Lea. But if he scratches, I’m all in with Max.

      I wonder what is going to happen with Justify and his win? This drugging has got to stop. Guess I just don’t want to think that BB would do that.

      Wow, that’s is really great! Big Congratulations to Strawberry Red and his owner/trainer/jockey, Luis Rivera, Jr.!! Outstanding accomplishment indeed. I like that Luis Rivera is 53 and planning for his future career, too. I agree with Shirley and hope Mr. Rivera holds on to Strawberry Red. It would be sad to see him put up for claiming.

    Z-Z has a short Youtube video out. I believe he is excelling at a faster rate than his brother in his new “job”.

    Mike Smith has a busy day as he has nine mounts today! I bet he’ll be “smooching” a lot! Safe rides for everyone.

    Mike Cline has retired as Lane’s End manager after 40 years. A lot of the staff we knew has also gone to other farms in the last ten years. Article on Bloodhorse. Lindal

      Yes, the enlarged print is nice; however, I will have to get used to the new layout. I think some replies have gone missing — I am sure I posted a reply to Sandy to thank her for our Hovis diary on Friday, the 24th. I did a reply to the Hovis visit on the 17th, also, but there isn’t one now for that one either.

      Love the new title page for the website though — wonderful head-shot of our beautiful Z❣️

      I left a message about Mckinzie after your concern. He lost both shoes on his right side about 50 yards into that race.

      Midnight Bisou is #1 again! She will be without her Mike this next race as NY is not letting anyone in out of state. That means no SMOOCHING from Mike!! I am hoping she will prevail.

    I too am sad about Steve Haskins. He always wrote with such feeling and love of the horses. Hopefully, he will continue to write.

    Happy for Max. He did well considering the weight he was carrying and the long layoff as well as change in trainer. Hope he continues to do well.
