Happy Friday!
How did you spend Father’s Day? We went to Lane’s End to celebrate with Zenyatta, and that was just the start of an exciting week…
12Z is getting so big, and we just had a blast hanging out with him and his mom.
Our next stop was California, where we stopped in to see Z’s little sister Eblouissante. We brought along Baby Z’s first halter, and Auntie Eblouissante got a kick out of it!
And then the most exciting news of all came this morning: Zenyatta is officially 60 days in foal to Tapit!
We also debuted our new column, Ask The Experts, earlier this week. Recently we invited all of you to submit questions about Zenyatta, her colt, and life at Lane’s End. Our inbox was flooded with hundreds of questions from all over the world.
We are so touched by the number of people Zenyatta has reached–-we love hearing from you! We also want to thank the ever generous people at Lane’s End Farm for agreeing to participate in this column, and for regularly providing photos for us to share with all of you.
If you missed your chance to send in a question, we will inviting another round of submissions in the future. Keep your eyes open!
Have a great weekend!

Hollywood Park: Lady of Shamrock ready to go long in American Oaks
By Steve Andersen Daily Racing Form 07/12/2012 3:34PM
INGLEWOOD, Calif. – Lady of Shamrock gave trainer John Sadler a small measure of consolation in the seconds after she had finished second by a nose in the Grade 2 Honeymoon Handicap at Betfair Hollywood Park on June 9.
Lady of Shamrock galloped out well clear of the field after a troubled trip, leaving Sadler immediately looking forward to Saturday’s $350,000 American Oaks.
“She just zoomed,” he said of the way she traveled after the wire.
The Honeymoon Handicap was run over 1 1/8 miles. The Grade 1 American Oaks is run over 1 1/4 miles, and will be the longest race in Lady of Shamrock’s accomplished career. She won three stakes during the Santa Anita winter-spring meeting, all for owner Kosta Hronis.
……………………
Lady of Shamrock will be ridden by Mike Smith, who was aboard for her wins in the China Doll Stakes in May and the Grade 3 Providencia Stakes in April. Alonso Quinonez rode Lady of Shamrock in the Honeymoon because Smith rode the Belmont Stakes program that day. In the Honeymoon, Lady of Shamrock raced in traffic through the stretch and did not have a clear path until the final sixteenth.

Everyone has been weaned today including Taco and Chili! Per Stonestreet, everyone handled it with class, moms and babies! They are growing up so fast!

I’m just going to make a suggestion here given that this has moved on to yet another new page. Why don’t we close this one out and have everyone continue on the new “Ask the Expert” #4 page? It is really confusing hopping back and forth between these two venues, and I know things are being missed. It would be great to everyone literally “back on the same page.” For those of you who posted your concerns for Karen Gogue here, I’m happy to say that she is home from the hospital, and we hope to hear from her directly in the not too distant future.

Dear Karen Gogue,
So glad to hear that you are home! Hope you are feeling better and that things are improving. We miss you and wish you nothing but the very best!
Take care of yourself, and remember that our thoughts and prayers continue your way.
Consider yourself hugged!

Dear Keta,
Just saw on the Ask the Experts site that you had a birthday on Thursday. Hope you had a simply wonderful day! Thanks for all your great posts, too.
Belatedly, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you and may you enjoy health, happiness and serenity for many, many more years to come!

In Re: Parallel universes
I thought that this successor to the Diary had become the “mother blog” site and that the Ask the Experts site was an off-shoot with a limited life span until the next new topic develops and starts another branch. Perhaps I am wrong, but I had considered this site to be home-base.
I do agree that it is difficult to follow both sites successfully. This is beginning to resemble a scaled-down Forum situation. IMHO, we need a constant place to check into — I am not too adept at frequent change.
I am sure things will sort themselves out, however.
Goodnight to All!
Trisha from VA
I really am missing hearing about Zenyatta and 12Z. It is very difficult to not hear from one you love so much. I need a Zenyatta fix.
How great is it that Zenyatta now has a race named for her. Congratulations big girl. Way to go. We knew it was only a matter of time. Well deserved gorgeous.
I hope 12Z is not weaned too soon. Zenyatta is such a great mom.
Our VA Derby is this coming weekend. Good luck to all and have a safe ride.
Love hugs and kisses to all, especiall Zenyatta and 12Z

Hello Marshall:
I consider this Home Base too. I hope it stays this way.

Zenyatta's Web Team
Hi everyone,
There seems to be some confusion about Blog posts on Zenyatta.com. I wrote the following in response to a question in the Forum and thought it would be helpful to post here as well.
Let me attempt to clarify any confusion about the Blog:
• “Ask The Experts” and “News” are simply categories within the Blog, as is “Z’s Diary.”
• The main blog page (https://staging.zenyatta.com/blog, accessed by clicking on BLOG in the main menu at the top of the site) always displays the ten most recent blog posts, sorted by post date. The most current blog post is always first.
• You can browse past blog entries, including Z’s Diary, by using the menu on the right hand side. You can look at all posts from a specific category by clicking on the category title, or you can jump backwards to posts from any given month.
• Different categories do not represent different sites—they are simply labels assigned to our posts to signify the type of information they contain. We only have three categories at the moment, but we may add more in the future. This is not meant to cause confusion, but to allow us to feature different types of content in the blog.
• We don’t plan to close comments on older blog posts in order to force our readers to comment in the same place. We would like all posts to remain accessible to Zenyatta’s fans world-wide, and we invite feedback on all information we share.
• Blog comments are generally not the best place for ongoing conversations, especially about topics unrelated to the content of the post. We developed the Forum so that you would all be able to create an account, have the ability to contact other members, and have a constant place to check in.
• Forum discussions have an advantage over blog comments as they can stay open and current indefinitely—as long as new comments are added, a discussion will remain at the top of the list. You can also bookmark any forum discussion and sign up to be notified when new comments are added. Bookmarked discussions are always accessible from the sidebar when you are logged into your account. **We have noticed that most forum members don’t use the bookmark capability. It works well—just click on the grey star to the right of the discussion title. Give it a try!**

I would like it if someone could gives us a little running account of what’s happening to the colt as he’s being weaned. I wonder how she’ll handle it, being such a loving mare.
Love to John and the entire barn. So sorry they will loose Harmonous but sounds like she ‘s ready to be a mom herself. Hope she does her daddy proud with her get.

An earlier post said that all of the foals at Lane’s End had been weaned………I take it that included Baby Z?
Andrea
I thought that post was about Stonestreet, RA’s home. Her Curlin colt was weaned without drama. I think that is what it said.
carol in utah
All stonestreet foals were weaned….not lanes end….WeeZee prob has a month or more left…but that’s just a guess…but fits original timetable ….Taco and Chili were born in jan after all

It is. I thought I put that I got the information from Stonestreet…. Didn’t I? Hmm… But it is. LE has not started weaning yet.

Dear Keta,
Thanks for the link to DRF with the pictures of RA, Taco, Hot Dixie Chick, Chili, Silky Serenade and Eskendareya foal. Beautiful pictures!!
Take care and hugs!

I wish we could get pictures of The Queen and The Prince at least once a week, especially if our Prince will be weaned soon. I wonder what it would take to get Dottie back, wonder if she misses it at all. I tried to get in Forum just to talk to you guys and refuses to accept my password, I am not happy with this at all. I was told there would be posts and pic once a week, I wonder if Ann and Jerry know that this is not happening. I saw Rachel and Taco’s latest from DRF, it was beautiful, and i thought why can’t we see something of that with Zenyatta and #12?? So sad, miss Her so much I could just cry…o, I am crying. Lisag

Oh Barbara! Thank u so much for the beautiful pic’s of Rachel and her gal pal’s and their babies! Thank u for sharing your experience and their stories, what an amazing job u have! You are one lucky lady! What a treat for us devoted and loyal fans of these great champions i.e. Rachel and Z-Girl to hear and see what’s going on in their new lives as mommies! No disrespect to Hot Dixie Chick and Silent Serenade love hearing how they are doing too! How nice to hear they all get along and play together! Please Barbara keep us posted, it seems to be a highlight in a lot of horse racing fans lives, and with more babies on the way that just doubles the excitement. Could you please post how long a filly is with foal because the turn around time appears to be very quick! Thanks again……With much appreciation and gratitude from a loving fan.

GirlSaratoga,
Barbara Livingston is one of the best horse photographers
She captures so much in her shots-personality, movement, interaction.
When I shared this link, it was like sharing an album
Glad you enjoyed it

Hi Keta! Can you tell me how long a filly is with foal? The turn around time to be very quick from one baby to the next! So I was wondering how long they are preggers! And also how many times in one year will a filly be bred? Thanks!
Lisag In Texas
The ladies are pregnant for one year, and breed once a year.
carol in utah
I thought it was 11mo…oh well….I am no expert
Marshall (NC broad)
Dear Carol,
I think it is 11 months, but that ends up being once a year for breeding and foaling.
I am no expert either!
Cheers and all the best!

Thanks for the info! I meant to say mares not filly….oops! It just shocked me that my favorite girl’s Rache and Z-Girl had foal’s in January and were already pregnant by March, not much of a break for these champs! Thanks again for valuable info. Much appreciated.

FYI there is a new ASK THE EXPERTS #5
Has two new questions with answers.
Also, a new photo of Charles leading Z & 12Z

Keta:
Thanks for the link to see Z-Girl and her precious “Taco”. She is so regal and he is so adorable. In the wake of such tragedy in Colorado, it’s pic’s like this that help heal the heart, even if for a brief moment. Thank you for all that you and the Z team to do to share her story and pic’s with us, it’s been the highlight of my week most times.
With much love and happiness always :-)

Have a lovely Sunday and stay safe! It has been rather stormy in these parts tonight — plenty of rain, though.
My grass silently grows and taunts the lawnmower and me!
Take care! Will sign off now since we just had a huge boom of thunder!
Sleep tight!

Hi Everyone!
For all who don’t know Z’s gal pal Rachel Alexendra is having a filly, which means Taco will have a half sister, how exciting! Maybe Z will have a filly tool! Such exciting news with these two mama’s. Can’t wait to hear their official names!
Hope everyone is staying cool and comfortable.
Marshall (NC broad)
Thanks, GirlSaratoga! Hope you have a good week and that you stay cool, also!
RIP dear Hootie — such a fine pony and a noble friend. We miss you already! Hope you are racing in the clouds tonight! No more pain. Goodnight, angel boy!

It’s been over a month now and I am definately going thru withdrawals. Is our girl and boy ok? Would love to hear and see something of them.
Hope all are well and staying cool in this heat. It’s too hot to do anything. That’s what I love about the south!!!
Mike had a really good weekend , didn’t he? That’s Zenyatta’s Mike.
Love hugs and kisses to all

Me Too, I was hoping for at least once a week new pictures and updates. He will be gone before we know it. I am so lost without HER. I cry when there is no new news on HER and her BABY. I am addicted to Zenyatta, and I am so very lost without HER. I miss Dottie so. Lisag
GirlSaratoga
Hi Lisag
Oh no! where is baby Z going? Is he being sold? I can’t imagine Jerry Moss selling him? Does anyone have any info for me? Can’t bare to not know what’s going on with baby Z! I’m with you, wish we could see pic’s every day! I think we are all in withdrawal! Stay cool!
Maryp (New York)
GirlSaratoga,
The Moss’ said they are keeping Z’s colt. No word on anything that changes that.

NO, my goodness they are keeping him, but he will be following his parents hoove prints and will be going off to train.
