Happy Friday!
How did you spend Father’s Day? We went to Lane’s End to celebrate with Zenyatta, and that was just the start of an exciting week…
12Z is getting so big, and we just had a blast hanging out with him and his mom.
Our next stop was California, where we stopped in to see Z’s little sister Eblouissante. We brought along Baby Z’s first halter, and Auntie Eblouissante got a kick out of it!
And then the most exciting news of all came this morning: Zenyatta is officially 60 days in foal to Tapit!
We also debuted our new column, Ask The Experts, earlier this week. Recently we invited all of you to submit questions about Zenyatta, her colt, and life at Lane’s End. Our inbox was flooded with hundreds of questions from all over the world.
We are so touched by the number of people Zenyatta has reached–-we love hearing from you! We also want to thank the ever generous people at Lane’s End Farm for agreeing to participate in this column, and for regularly providing photos for us to share with all of you.
If you missed your chance to send in a question, we will inviting another round of submissions in the future. Keep your eyes open!
Have a great weekend!

Judy B. Fantastic article and nice photo. Rachel is a complex horse. You have to love that Taco. Thanks for posting this one.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Max,
Your so welcome. Hoping TT will have a similar experience being a Mom if she has been bred this year. Have you heard anything on that? Someone posted earlier that she was bred to Unbridled Song, but I can’t find anything to confirm. Hugs, JB

Dear Max:
Don’t know if you saw it. Right under the photo of Rachel in small print is a Slide Show with more photos of her and Taco by BL. Have to click on that to view. Hugs, JB
Max
Judy B. Thanks for pointing that out. I had missed the slide show. That is really nice. All of the horses look very well. I liked the one of the third broodmare, Silky Serenade. She is a beauty too. Stonestreet is a wonderful place to live. If we cannot get stalls at LE, maybe we can move there?
I have heard nothing about TT, but many here have asked questions to LE and we may hear something about her. I would love to see her colt.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Max:
Hope LE does any update on TT and her foal (with photos) soon. Sounds like a plan. If we can’t live at Lane’s End, Stonestreet will be fine. Hugs, JB

Thanks, JB, this was good. Rachel gets more beautiful with Motherhood and Age. Taco is so muscular and so is Chili now that I think about it…Lisag

Dear Z Fans:
A really nice article aboutformr jockey, Eibar Coa and His son Keiber. Eibar was the regular rider for Mucho Macho Man, but was badly injured in a spill at Gulfstream Park in February 2011 and is only 70 percent recovered. His son Keiber is a jockey and following in his Dad’s footsteps. Hugs, JB

Dear Judy B.,
Thanks for the link to the article on Eibar and Keiber Coa. Great story about a brilliant, tough jockey and his talented son.
Have a nice weekend — is it very hot in Rhode Island?
Cheers! MP
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Marshall:
Glad you enjoyed the article on Eibar Coa and his son. Eibar was one of my favorite jockeys.
We have had weeks of high 80 and 90 temps with very high humidity. Tomorrow is supposed to reach 95 degrees. How is it where you are? Hugs, JB
Marshall (NC broad)
Dear Judy B.,
Here in N.C., it has been hot and humid enough to make 80’s and 90’s with high humidity seem almost mild! It’s all miserably uncomfortable.
We have had a string of 100+ degrees days with the inevitable humidity.
Today and tomorrow our highs will be 102. Last weekend we actually had a record-breaking high temperature of 105+. It has been brutal!
The upcoming week promises to be in the upper 80’s with chance of thunderstorms each day — we need the rain, too. The down side of that is that my grass will be growing again, and I will be mowing again!
Have a nice remainder of the weekend, and stay cool.
Glad that Mucho Macho Man and Mike won the Suburban Stakes!
Hugs to you and Lola Mae!
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Marshall:
Wow, the temps have been brutal. Glad you’ll be getting some needed rain. Yes, unfortunately means more mowing.
So happy for MMM and Mikey. Hope Mikey stays on as his regular rider if commitments allow. Have a wonderful week. Hugs, JB and LM

Thanks for web site about Eibar Coa and his son. What a wonderful article, I will miss not seeing him race, but I will an eye out for his son now! Thanks Again

Hello to all!
It took me awhile to find you — thought there had been a mass exodus to vacation spots for the 4th!
Stayed up much too late last night (this morning!) reading all the posts on the Ask the Experts site. Good to see everyone’s posts.
I will continue to write here on the blog, I think. It’s hard to keep up with several locations. I will read the other site, but maybe just respond here. I surely need to go to bed earlier!
YAY! Mucho Macho Man and Mike!!
Take care! Have a good weekend!
Ann
Hi Marshall,
I found you. Hope you are staying cool and if we can hold on, I believe next week will be much better.
Wanted to let you know, I am from the triangle area, not God’s country. Wish I were. I was visiting. The kids used to go to camp in the NC mountains and we took a short trip to cool off. I miss those camping days.
I read about Merrits and their BLTs. yummy!!! Have you been there?
How about those UNC boys in the draft? I will miss all of them playing next year.
Stay cool. I am going to see my Mom next week. I hope to take a trip to where Union Rags trains. Would love to even see where he has been spending his days.
Take care and stay cool.
Marshall (NC broad)
Hi, Ann!
Where in the Triangle area? Thanks for the mention of the French Broad — it gave me a cool feeling! Yes, I have had Merritt’s BLT’s, though it has been quite awhile.
They are Delicious!!
Hope you enjoy the trip to Union Rags’ training grounds; maybe a possible sighting?
Looking forward to the moderation in temps this week!
Take care and hugs!
Ann
Hugs back to you Marshall!
I am in Raleigh,NC,almost down the street from the Gov..
That would be a dream to have a UR sighting, he is a gorgeous horse.
I hope, when it cools off, I can go meet rescue Gus and the new baby over at SHERR. Maybe you can come w/me?
One more day of this HEAT and then relief. Hang in there.
I’ll be back next week, take care.

Hi Zenny and all Z’sters: Great Gold Cup race yesterday, Congratulations to Game on Dude!!! Also kudos to Mike and MMM winning the Suburban!!!
I was shocked and heartbroken to hear that IHA is going to stand stud in Japan. I hope he will return to the U.S. someday.
Hope all the ZDumplings had a great time yesterday at HP.

May you be leading sire for years and years
May you be leading broodmare sire for years and years
May lots of your kids be Champions ..
May you be known as a sire or sires..
…another horse did this…
May you follow in the hoofprints of the great Sunday Silence..and show them that you too are truly great

That was well said Carol. I hope there are fans out there like myself who will try to find ways to keep tabs on IHA. It is not so critical now, but in the years to come it will be. He deserves to be brought back to the US after his stud service is over and retire at a place like Old Friends Farm.
This owner is way ahead of the game in terms of MONEY. He won millions of dollars in a very short time. Never in a million years did that owner and trainer think IHA would win the Kentucky Derby let alone the Preakness. Union Rays, Bodie, Dullahan they were the horses that were likely to win. So this owner and trainer are way ahead of the game in MONEY–not to mention the THRILLS IHA gave them. So why couldn’t the owner have settled for less and have sold IHA to an American breeder so IHA could remain in the US. My answer to that is GREED. I just think it is disgraceful.
I remember reading about an owner that heard her horse was sold to Japanese breeder and she went all out to buy the horse back and have him returned to the US. I can’t remember the name of the horse or the owner, but I do remember the story.
I wonder what this owner did to ensure IHA’s safety and well being in Japan in the years to come when IHA has long been forgotten about. IHA ran his heart out and became an American Hero. IHA ran his heart out and gave that owner and trainer the ride of their lives. IHA deserved a lot more loyalty from his owner than what I think he got. Sorry, but that’s how I feel. Shame on him.
Lisag In Texas
Well said, Linda, well said. It all comes down to money. I think most racing managers would not care how much or how little the Stud Fee is and IHA would have Excellent Mares wanting a date with him here in the US.
I do, however, think the American Farms once again disrespected IHA by offering such a low amount for the breeding rights. Like you said, Linda, he became an American Hero and would have officially been the TC winner in 2012. Shame on them as well.

To all, When i go down to Ocala in August to the Yearling Sale. I will do a little Sherlock Holmes work. I have seen in the past lots of Japanes at these sales. Some were sitting right behind me last year.I will listen out and see if I hear them say anything about where they are from in Japan. I listen out for the menton of Big Red Farm. The Japanes love our American Horses. They bought a number of the horses one time I was there. No I don’t speak Japanese, but I will listen out. Maybe I could tell them to please keep us updated on our beloved I’ll Have Another. Maybe they could do a website and keep us posted. Well, It is worth a try. I just dearly love this horse. I know, far fetched but you never know.

It was a thrill to see I’ll Have Another last Saturday in Barn 63. Sad to see him leave. Hope he will be happy in Japan. It was a treat to see Lava Man having his bath not far from the stall of IHA.
I’ll Have Another and Mario looked happy together again in the farewell parade.
There were quite a few of us Zenny fans Saturday. It was wonderful to finally meet them in person. They are no longer just names – now we have faces to remember!
Zenny – we miss you very much! Take care of yourself and the baby.

I know Raleigh quite well. Have friends there. I went to St. Mary’s (on Hillsborough St.) when it was a junior college and then transferred to UNC for the last two years of college. Small world!
Have a fun trip — hope you get to see lots of equines!
Take care and safe travels!

@Linda Edwards….found a reference yesterday…lost it again but said the Big Red Farm in Japan has a English language web site….allows folks to follow their stallions …so will be able to keep track of IHA….I hope…
….
Also the issue of the quality of his mares is something to consider…I had not thought about until the Haskins Guest Blog yesterday…
…..

Hi Carol: Thanks for the link to Big Red Farms. I tried Googling it several times and with different entries and found nothing. I stand corrected. Thanks again.
Brenda in TX
I miss Dottie too … I’m still pondering what happened to IHA – After reading some of the responses to S Haskins’ Blood Horse article I starting wondering too how everything happened so fast – I’m trying to think that everything was for the well being of the horse & the better quality of mares that he will be breed to over there – BUT there is still that nagging doubt about what was really going on after he won the Derby – I just hope that he’s great at stud & that some little IHAs will make back home …
Lisag In Texas
We have some excellent mares here as well, o, we are on Her Website, but according to Mr. Reddam, with the price offered from American Farms, the Best Mares would not want a ‘date’ with IHA, does and does not make sense. Dottie would know what to do with or without a high stud fee, she does not base Zenyatta’s dates on the FEE. I wish he would have stayed here, he did not get the respect he deserved from NBC and other medias after HE WON the KD and the Preakness, and I know with all my heart..he would have been the TC winner of 2012. I call him that, Little Red the TC Winner. He is so very beautiful, I remember reading that Native Dancer did not always get the respect he deserved either. What a shame. Mr Reddam is certainly a rich man by IHA alone.

I thought that there would be more updates from Lane’s End, I have not been on alot lately due to my life. I am disappointed, no updates, no new pictures (DRF has some), no videos of the Queen and her Big Prince. I like the Q&A, but we need more, so much more. Wish Dottie did not leave us.

hi i haven’t been on for a while. how is zenyatta and the baby. omg i have just found out that she is having a another baby.
Lisag In Texas
The Queen has had a date with Tapit, it is exciting to see if she will have a baby Grey, since she does have bloodline with Native Dancer. As we love her so, we will love what ever she decides, but a Grey would be exciting. This baby will be half brother/sister to Hansen the Handsome, too cool. Hansen is getting better and better, as a 4 year old I bet he will do some damage, I am always watching him…seeing him grow up and get more confident and racing better and better. What a beauty, and Zenyatta’s next child will be even more so.

Until now, I had no idea that everyone had not moved on to the #3 post, although I wondered, as it looked a bit sparse. As I have been on vacation, I missed #2 almost completely. With all these multiple pages for each post, it is much easier to get lost, and harder to find things & people. Spreading out thinner and thinner.

Right, Keta. It took me a little while to figure out the parallel universes, too. It is taking twice as long for me to read the posts now. I am a fan of simplicity.

@Marshall in NC, heard the Heat Wave is over and now NC is flooded. Are you OK?
Marshall (NC broad)
Lisag,
Thanks for the concern. We are fine here in the Chapel Hill, Raleigh, Durham area. We are at last getting some much needed rain, but it is a mixed blessing since now I will have to cut grass even more often — I truly hate the summer temperatures. The heat wave may be over at present, but I am sure that it isn’t over for the season. Ick!
