Happy Friday!
How did you spend Father’s Day? We went to Lane’s End to celebrate with Zenyatta, and that was just the start of an exciting week…
12Z is getting so big, and we just had a blast hanging out with him and his mom.
Our next stop was California, where we stopped in to see Z’s little sister Eblouissante. We brought along Baby Z’s first halter, and Auntie Eblouissante got a kick out of it!
And then the most exciting news of all came this morning: Zenyatta is officially 60 days in foal to Tapit!
We also debuted our new column, Ask The Experts, earlier this week. Recently we invited all of you to submit questions about Zenyatta, her colt, and life at Lane’s End. Our inbox was flooded with hundreds of questions from all over the world.
We are so touched by the number of people Zenyatta has reached–-we love hearing from you! We also want to thank the ever generous people at Lane’s End Farm for agreeing to participate in this column, and for regularly providing photos for us to share with all of you.
If you missed your chance to send in a question, we will inviting another round of submissions in the future. Keep your eyes open!
Have a great weekend!

Max
Lisag. Are you talking about Mo?
Lisag In Texas
Yes, my Uncle Mo, my Baby Boy.
Max
Lisag. Thought so. Lucky gals. I hope that they will have lots of details about their visit with Mo. Really miss him. His website and Facebook were very entertaining. I still follow his cousin, Stay Thirsty, and Mo’s “girlfriend”, Awesome Maria, although she seemed to be more interested in her career. Mo always loved all of the fillies.

@Max and JB: I miss my Baby Boy to, I will never forget that video of Awesome Maria walking by my Mo, and he goes nuts. I bet he is enjoying retirement. I cannot wait until Shari and Dawn start posting either. Image, that Dawn, she talked them into bringing him out. I would love to have been there. Lisag
Max
Lisag. That was a good video. But Mo was good in all of his videos. I love the one where he showed how much that enjoyed his food. Another one of him eating a mint was great too. He has charisma. His sense of humor was very funny, especially his disguises, and teasing his cousins.

Mo is a special boy. He has that endearing quality in his personality like a loveable child; comes out in all the videos. Miss him too. Hugs, JB

Keta note: Buried in the story is this information on Hollywood Park
News of the Forum’s return has boosted long-shelved plans by another developer for a $2-billion real estate project that would replace the nearby Hollywood Park racetrack with a large planned community, Butts said.
Work on that project, called Hollywood Park Tomorrow, will begin early next year, he said. The community is to include 3,000 residential units, stores, theaters, restaurants, a hotel and a casino

Shoemaker Mile feels like home turf for Mr. Commons
The John Shirreffs-trained Mr. Commons always seems to run well when the race is contested on a grass course, as Saturday’s Hollywood Park feature will be. Another contender to watch: Little Mike.
A fees-paid automatic berth to the Breeders’ Cup Mile will be up for grabs Saturday in the Grade I $300,000 Shoemaker Mile at Betfair Hollywood Park, and one person feeling confident about the race is trainer John Shirreffs.
The Shirreffs-trained Mr. Commons, a 4-year-old son of Artie Schiller, is known for his consistency on the turf. He covers a mile in 1 minute 34 seconds or better seemingly every time.
“He always runs so well,” Shirreffs said.
Even though Mr. Commons has finished second in his last two races, the Grade 2 American Handicap and the Grade I Frank Kilroe Mile, Shirreffs was pleased with the horse’s effort.
The question is, can Mr. Commons get into the winner’s circle Saturday against Little Mike, who has been brought in from Kentucky after winning the Grade I Woodford Reserve Turf Classic at Churchill Downs on the Kentucky Derby card?

Hansen towers over 2012 Iowa Derby
The Sports Network Published Friday, Jun. 29, 2012
The morning line odds for the 14th Iowa Derby at Prairie Meadows indicate that it should be a one horse race. Eclipse Award winner Hansen has been rated the 2-5 early favorite versus four lesser rivals in Saturday’s $250,000 event for three-year-olds at 1 1/16 miles.
Trained by Mike Maker, Hansen is beginning the second half of his 2012 season following a disappointing ninth-place finish in the Kentucky Derby eight weeks ago. The 2011 champion two-year-old was well placed early during the Run for the Roses and then ran into some traffic problems.
“We didn’t have the best horse. Ramon (Dominguez) had him in a great spot and he had every chance if we were good enough. We weren’t good enough,” Maker noted. “Turning for home it looked like we were in a good spot but couldn’t make up any ground at the eighth pole.”
Owned by Dr. Kendall Hansen and Skychai Racing, Hansen has won four of his seven career starts for $1,623,305. .
From the rail out here is the field for the Iowa Derby: Hansen, Ramon Dominguez, 2-5; Alsvid, Chris Landeros, 4-1; Hero of Order, Ken Tohill, 8-1; Macho Bull, Jake Barton, 15-1 and Truetap, Julien Leparoux, 8-1.
Post-time for the Iowa Derby will be approximately 10:40 p.m. (ET).

Judy; Thanks for the info. I always want the best for our favorite connections!!!!
Until the Zenyatta blog and my Bloodhorse magazines I never realized the amount of horses competing all over. It is amazing to me that with all that is out there; only a very few become great champions. Zenyatta is the best story of all. hugs
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Sally B.:
You’re so right. Zenyatta’s racing record is really amazing. So many are born and so few are successful at racing. That’s why I hope her babies make it and if not, have long, happy lives outside of racing. You just never know. Prince really already does have the “Look of Eagles”. We’ll have to wait and hope. Hugs, JB

Hi Judy: Thanks for the information on Mr. Commons. Just not his day but he will be first again.
As in most sports – there are good days and bad days. I love Tennis and have been watching Wimbledon. Who would think Nadal the number 2 in the world would lose to someone who is ranked 100 th in the world. It happens and Mr. Commons will win the next time around.
My hugs to Mr. Commons for trying hard. Marilu

To all please have a safe and fun 4th. Try to stay cool. I am headed to Hatteras Island NC and I sure do wish I could take gorgeous Zenyatta and 12Z. They would have a great time in the ocean and at the beach. I guess that will have to stay in my dreams. Unless Zenyatta can escape with baby! HA!
Love hugs and kisses.

Trisha, When I have been in Fla. I have pictured Zenyatta running on the beach too, with the wind in her mane, slowing at times to do her dance. !!!!

Yeah Hansen . What a beautiful boy.
Sally B. (cherish Z- Wi.)
Hi all; I have grandkids and family coming Tues. late afternoon through the fourth of July. They were just here this Sat. All of us swimming, kids tubing behind the boat……I am recovering from Sat!!!!! ha (they think I am super woman) We have had no rain for 6 weeks and we are in a hot spell so there is no better way we know to stay cool. But being with Zenyatta would be the COOLEST thing of all. I will have to disappear at 8:30 a.m. for my first day meeting for training at the Cedar Valley Horse Sanctuary. She said it would only be an hour. There were two other women so it makes it easier for her. I did not want her to play catch-up with me.
I wish all of you a wonderful 4th of July! God Bless our country. Fly our flag!
God Bless Zenyatta and colt z and all my Z’ster friends. hugs to all
Trisha from VA
Hope all are safe and with power after the storms of the last few days. Zenyatta you stay safe big girl and keep your baby boy close.

Happy 4th Marshall!!!! Hope you are staying cool and have not had any of those bad storms. In the 90s rest of week….relief.
Marshall (NC broad)
Ann,
HAPPY FOURTH TO YOU, TOO!
I left a reply to your French Broad River post above. You must live in an area that is in my favorite region of the state. I am staying cool by being a house-human! I am outside as infrequently as possible — except for grass-cutting, Ick!
We haven’t had any of those severe storms here in Chapel Hill; I hope we escape the bad thunderstorms and windstorms. The humidity has climbed back up — Monday was actually fairly nice; although, it was quite hot, the dewpoints were low.
Please let the AC keep purring along!!! I’ll gladly pay the electric bill.
Do hope the weather in your “neck of the woods” is calm, too.
Cheers and watch for falling fireworks!
