Happy Monday!
Our first ever Zenyatta.com Celebration happened over Breeders’ Cup weekend in November 2013. Through the sales of our limited edition Celebration Sticker and the auction of Zenyatta memorabilia, we raised money for Thoroughbred Rehab Center, Inc. The final donation totaled $12,000, and we have all of you to thank for your support and generosity!
As our Grand Prize, we picked five fans in a random drawing to win an invitation to visit Zenyatta at Lane’s End Farm. Each winner was able to travel with their friend of choice and meet Zenyatta, 13Z and receive a tour of Lane’s End. These photos by Alys Emson document their visits.
View the complete set of photos from these visits in our Zenyatta.com Celebration Photo Gallery.
Enjoy!

Giving up robs us of drawing up gold from our own depths. Imagine having a well, a very deep well, that is topped off with several feet of tainted water. But deeper down, the water, the a ma’, is clear, and down even farther it is a spring, a spring that bubbles cold and pure through deposits of gold. Should we give up because of what we saw in the beginning? Or would we want to tap the depths and clear away the polluted water and get down to the very best? If it is true that we only know five percent of who and what we are-then, it is possible that we have untapped depths, where our being is pure and free of contamination. Should we give up such a rich experience because of what we have seen on the surface?
We give you this belt to clear away all clouds, that we may live in bright sunshine…

Sheena. Bravo Annie. That drop back to a shorter race at 2 miles was no problem for her. She is unbeaten and looks to stay that way. Glorious.
Waiting to hear good news of BB.

Thanks, Sheena for the great news about, Annie Power!!!
Congrats to her and her connections.
I am thrilled. Girl Power!

This was a mare’s hurdle. Annie usually humiliates males. Gotta love her for it. She is a super horse in every way. Huge and stylish like our Z, and a chestnut like Red.

Dear Kathy I wish someone would blow our clouds away!Ray is getting ready to go skiing!!Daddy is busy with his calenders. Did you see that very sad story on Joey’s Facebook about Melody a dog in a kill shelter I believe she is safe now but was horrified to see an animal looking so petrified. How on earth can humans be so cruel?? When I think of all the furbabies who have such good homes they ALL deserve that kind of life.
Poor Zeus is still cold in Florida and his Momma’s a wimp he needs his walk!!! Great racing over here today.have a lovely weekend.Hugs to you, kisses for the Puppy pack.Sheena

Dear Sheena,
Sorry for the clouds and all the stormy weather. It’s even overcast here today. Ray and his bruddahs…all so adorable. I hope Daddy sells a lot of calendars! Yes, I saw Melody’s story. Broke my heart. All furbabies deserve to be treated with love. They give back many times over. Zeus’ mom needs to put on her warmest coat and get out there with him. enjoy the day’s racing. Happy weekend to you! Hugs from me, kisses from The Pack. Kathy

I’ve been away and just now got to see the newly posted pics. OMGosh. Beautiful. My favorite one is Zenny with Lisa Meyers. Look at Z’s face, like she’s so humbled at having company. I’ve never seen that expression on her face before. Me thinks Z must have felt Lisa’s radiating love. And wow is little Zenariat growing like a weed.
Gorgeous pics, thx teamZ. I’ve been worried about QueenZ in this zero weather.

Dear Max I always felt it would go pear-shaped with Sam riding,he doesn’t have the experience he hit the front too far out on a horse that wasn’t race fit and the heavy going he just ran out of steam.Hope Sam will learn by his mistakes before March.I wish Paul,Ruby and the Stewart family could have come to some sort of arrangement for Ruby to have kept the ride. I hope all goes well with The Fly tomorrow, cant wait to see what Willie decides for Annie Power she’s a class act.Happy Burns Night Hugs Sheena
Max
Sheena. I guess that Big Buck’s losing is like Frankel losing, unthinkable for a national treasure. So far I have not heard that Sam is getting criticized, but I agree that he is not used to running from the front from all of his time with the Moosester. But don’t worry. BB will be back. Wise Dan took a loss in the Shadwell, but he roared back. BB is too good a horse to let this loss get to him. As for Annie, she is amazing. Only hope that The Fly has a good run. His groom discovered his sore foot because The Fly was not talking. He needs to be more like Quevega. She lets Mullins know what she wants.

Dear Max BB has gone 5yrs without a loss over hurdles it was hard to take but his old friend and neighbour Kauto has tweeted he WILL win the World Hurdle plus Sam is quite cheerful. Kauto also has some new boots and Lucinda Green paid Laura a visit and was pleased to see Kauto looking so happy.Run Fly Run! Hugs Sheena

Sheena. Saw that comment from Kauto. Neigh! Read however that Annie Power might be entered in the World Hurdle. Oh my! If she runs as usual with Ruby as jockey, there is no telling what may happen, as in kicking male butt big time yet again.
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Max That WOULD be some race would still hate to see Ruby beating his old friend though!!Looks like some mouth-watering races at the Festival only 6 weeks to go !!! Hugs Sheena

Sheena. I agree. I would not like to see Ruby race with Annie against Big Buck’s. Nothing has been decided about Annie so that she might go elsewhere. She is one incredible mare. Ruby said that she was keen throughout the race. Really wants to win. Hope that Cockney Sparrow is okay after her fall. She was very game until then.

Zenyatta, You and your baby need to stay warm and have all nutrients and not burn up your fuel. Oh, I know you will be really cared for but I do love to see you enjoying your paddock area. I am like you Z, I do not like confinement, I love the out of doors too. I hope you do not get the forecasted weather Wi is, once again big minus zero temps and windchills -20 to -30. School closings are already happening for this Mon and Tues.
I wish sometimes our horse sanctuary would close our horses in at night when these temps get so bitter. A couple weeks ago when I arrived on a Tues bitterly cold morning, there were small drifts of snow against the dividing wall in Sirs stall which I then shoveled out. I imagine though, since no one is there 24/7, it is safer for them not to be locked in.
Hi to all Zsters, I think of you, stay well.

One of the kindest horse women I have ever met is Ann Moss, so when Deborah Jones told me that she was informed of one of her recently owned horses in trouble and asked for her help, I assumed everything would work out for this horse….not so…help was refused to the horse. The horse was run by the Mosses in a $75,000 claiming race….sigh….the team who claimed him raced him 2 times in 14 days and he is now running in a 2500 claim. FAR ROCKAWAY was bred by the mosses, they created him, they gave him life, yet when this life needs them they turn away…I am in total shock! Even farms who breed will help THIER own when in need! Adena being my best example. For owners who are currently in the public eye trying to promote a good face on their product I would hope that this is just a mix up, a lack of communication and that ANN WILL STEP UP TO THE PLATE FOR THE LIFE SHE CREATED! Far ROCKAWAY is counting on her to save his life!!!
Mary Adkins-Matthews
Jerry and Ann Moss have followed their own horses for many many years now and they end up in retirement or second careers when horses are claimed away from them. How do you know that this horse would not have been the same? Jerry and Ann might have already been in contact with this owner/ trainer just as they have in the past. But it would seem that many people on facebook have now decided to follow every horse that they can find. I personally would take down this blog/web site if I were them. These are two people that have not only helped countless horses of their own but those that they never owned and yet I have now seen the names of 5 horses that people are currently following. It is nothing less than outrageous for people that have done so much for the racing industry.
sue and tony
Bravo for your post, Mary! The Mosses have proven themselves over and over again to be responsible horsepeople. Period.
Judy in South Carolina
Mary I feel as though I must reply to your comments about the Mosses since I PERSONALLY spearheaded the endeavor that resulted in the purchase/retirement of their home bred son of Giacomo, G Ten.
The reason there is specific interest now in several of the horses that they bred, originally raced but who are now running in low level claiming races at tracks like Emerald Downs and Los Alamitos is because MULTIPLE attempts to contact them AND John Shirreffs were made by me PERSONALLY when we began our G Ten effort. At NO time was there a request made for ANYTHING in this correspondence other than perhaps some assistance with getting him placed in a retirement/rehoming facility such as ReRun — i.e. never were they asked to contribute a dime or otherwise get involved. There was not ONE piece of correspondence that was ever answered; worse ever even acknowledged.
Our group went through months of stress trying to buy G Ten because his owner didn’t want to be “associated with a rescue group” and we all donated hard earned money, conducted fund raisers, etc. until we had enough to buy him. We had NO help from any well know people in the racing industry whatsoever.
So that is why you see the intense interest in their other horses that have been found to be in the same situation as we found G Ten. It’s become a “mission” now. In this current world of “throwaways” it is painfully obvious that we Little Guys have got to step up to the plate and that is exactly what we are doing.
And by no means do we think they are the only uber rich in this industry who don’t seem to take responsibility for horses that they have bred — they just happen to be the ones that came to the forefront with many here at this site because of G Ten and his “story”.
Barbara Scotto
Indeed, Far Rockaway, bred and owned by the Mosses, needs help. The Mosses were the face of everything that was good about racing. I am SHOCKED that they have not stepped up, and I truly hope that they will help immediately. Ann Moss, PLEASE DO THE RIGHT THING BY YOUR HORSE!!!!!
Jsmith
Far Rockaway is being purchased through a private sale from his current owner/trainer. I believe the price is $2,400. (not 100% sure on that) but the money is coming from donations made by general public, not his former connections who declined to help.

Cairo Prince proves legit RACE REPLAY VIDEO
Bloodhorse Updated: January 25, 2014, 8:17 PM ET
His slate-gray tail streaming behind him, favored Cairo Prince set sail for home in the $400,000 Miller Lite Holy Bull Stakes Jan. 25 at Gulfstream Park, solidifying his status as one of the main contenders to watch on the road to the Kentucky Derby.
The Pioneerof the Nile colt won by 5 ¾ lengths over 10 other 3-year-olds at the South Florida track while carrying high weight of 122 pounds. The 2-1 choice added to his previous graded stakes victory — the Nov. 3 Nashua — and returned from a tough beat by a nose behind Honor Code in the Nov. 30 Remsen.

Sherzinger rallies up rail RACE REPLAY VIDEO
Bloodhorse Updated: January 25, 2014, 8:19 PM ET
Scherzinger, given a crafty ride by Mike Smith in her stakes debut, registered a one-length victory in the $200,000 Santa Monica Stakes Jan. 25 at Santa Anita Park.
Trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, the 4-year-old daughter of Tiz Wonderful took back along the inside after leading early when 7-5 favorite Teddy’s Promise and second choice Heir Kitty hooked up rounding the turn. Roused in the stretch by Smith, Scherzinger swept past Teddy’s Promise in deep stretch and held well over the late-arriving Iotapa in a game effort. The final time for seven furlongs was 1:22 flat over a fast track.

January 26 Cherokee Devotional
There are in every life both sunshine people and rainy-day people. There are giving people and there are those who take, but how so few in number are those who understand. To have someone understand why we cry or laugh, why we feel downcast for no apparent reason, is to have a friend. A friend accepts our changes of mood without telling us to snap out of it. They know if we could so easily handle tears we would have done it already. All our loneliness and worry and fear seems to fade in the presence of a friend who never judges but stands alongside with loyalty. “My u na li, take my hand and walk with me until you can go alone.” It gives us what we need to be a friend a s well.
We shall not fail…to nourish your hearts…about the renewal of our amity and the brightening of the Chain of Friendship…

Am no fan of Football but enjoyed the Aussie Open this morning ,shock win for Stan Wawrinska Nadal played with a back injury from mid 2nd set but Stan was by far the better player all through, had already beaten Djorkovic to reach the semis. Dear Sheena,
We are surely all at the mercy of Mother Nature. We stand by and hear of what’s happening weather-wise around the world and just because we aren’t affected now doesn’t mean we won’t be in the future. Ray looked so adorable in the shot where he has on all his gear but he’s so sleepy his eyes are closed. Yay Boo! One adorable pup. I love the Zoeisms, too! Very darling little girl. Happy Zeus is warmer now! Stan the man! Playing with a back injury…I just hope he didn’t do more damage by playing through like that. Have a great Sunday. Love and hugs from me, kisses from The Pack. Great photo of The Fly. The woman in the red coat with The Fly and Ruby is Gail Carlisle, his groom. She discovered his sore foot, and got it the needed attention. An ordinary horse would have been scratched. Instead The Fly runs like “a demon” to win going away at the finish line. Extraordinary.
