Zenyatta recently received a visit from Australian photographer Bronwen Healy. You can see more of Bronwen’s work on her website, http://www.bronwenhealy.com.au.
Congrats to Jess’s Dream. Both kids made their Mama RA proud.
On a sad note:
Just came back from the farm. Asking for your prayers for Bentley. Bentley is
Angela’s Barrel Pony. He’s a Buckskin color and the sweetest boy. You can leave
him tied to the trailer in between events and he takes a nap until you fetch
him.
Eighteen days ago he came up lame after a trim by the farrier. He has developed
Laminitis and is not doing well. Specialist vet will be out to the farm tomorrow
afternoon. Looks like the farrier messed up and then kept trimming to cover it
over, but x-rays show that one hoof is 3 millimeters shorter than the other and
deterioration to the bone. Angela is doing everything she can to keep him
comfortable. Please keep him in your prayers. Love and Hugs, JB
Thank you very much. He is a very sweet, cool guy. Loves to be kissed on the side of his face. Couldn’t get enough kisses from me and Angela today. Love and Hugs, JB
Oh no, JB, sorry to read this news about Bentley. Of course he is cool, he is a beautiful Buckskin.
Will keep him and all at the barn in my prayers. Protect him, Dear Lord.
Love to you, Angela and Brave Bentley.
So sorry to hear this Judy. I must have seen him when I was there with you. Really awful that this might have been a farrier error :-(. Hope he can overcome this. Hugs,
Sandy
Yes, you saw Bentley. He is the beautiful Buckskin. Remember, I got confused when we were standing looking in the paddock while we were waiting for Angela to come out to the barn, I mixed him up with another Buckskin. Then Angela came in from the trail riding Bentley.
Been having trouble loading photos from my service. Hope this comes up. It’s a photo of Angela and Bentley in competition. Love and Hugs, JB
@Sheena: Any news on the Tian Tian front? I hope Edinburgh gets to enjoy the excitement of having a cub or even twins! So far so good in D.C. except for one hiccup when Mei Xiang refused to hand over one of the twins for the nightly swap and the nannykeepers had to bottle feed the other baby by hand all night long. Mei has been cooperating on swaps today, though. In fact, the keepers just now completed one and turned the Panda Cam back on, so the panda newbies freaking out on FB can calm down now!
My dear Judy.I know how upset you must be about Bentley.I will keep him in my thoughts and prayers.Keep us posted about the specialist’s visit.Hope he can help Bentley.Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT Cap Hercules Frank Bentley and all the sweeties.Love and hugs SheenaX
Dear Deb E.Sadly no news from Edinburgh yet but we live in hope. The keepers were worried that Mei wouldn’t always cooperate with the swaps.Hope she will behave tomorrow.I recall someone came over from China to help with Lun-Lun and her twins and feeding time went quite smoothly as far as I can remember.Little one needs mum’s milk.Love and hugs Sheena.
Mei remembers that horrible morning back in 2012 when she began calling out in distress for someone to come and help Princess. The nannykeepers came and got Princess, but didn’t give her back. Mei wandered all through her enclosures calling and crying for her baby for days afterwards. It was heartbreaking. Mei still doesn’t really trust them to bring her cub back to her when the vets or keepers take it away for any reason. Losing Princess traumatized her. She was so depressed; it took having Bao Bao in 2013 to bring the light back to her eyes.
I will add my prayers for Bentley. I love buckskins & my Pride had many members in her family who were barrel racers. In fact, her sire’s full sister, Hannah, was unbeatable when she barrel raced.
I’m also sending prayers for all people who live in the fire areas in the western US as well as the brave people fighting them. Three fire fighters were lost last week when they were trapped by fire. Australia & New Zealand have sent people to help us fight the 70 fires. The one in the state of Washington is the largest in its history. I pray that no other lives will be lost…
So happy for the owner and trainer of RV and JD. RA kids are doing great as beginners on the track. Johnny V is a great asset for the connections too. Hmm, wish Zenny’s kids were doing as well. Though I adore and respect John, there is talk out there of his taking too much time getting horses ready to race. Not judging myself, but seems to be his style overall. I worry about Coz not progressing. No recent works from Zi either. Hope for better news soon.
We have to remember that Taco is a little older than Coz and he was slow to make his first start. And The Red Prince is only 2. Patience paid off with Zenyatta and Taco and I am sure it will with Coz. Good things come to those who wait.
CoZ progress has nothing to do with the trainer it is the horse- he is not getting it yet.
JS is a great trainer. RA was very precocious and fast, both of her youngsters are demonstrating that. Zenyatta was not that, she was slow to develop and she was a closer, very slow to start. JV said Taco knew when to go in the race and he took off.
CoZ does not know this, JS is teaching him this. Please do not fault the trainer,
It is the horse !!!!! JS is getting Zi ready to run he should be running soon, you are seeing a completely different training style with Zi he is already breezing and should run
in September in MSW I would think- he is not moving slowly with him at all- Zi has racing
on his mind since he was a yearling and loves to train. Two very different horses. Two
very different training styles.
Tizgood I am glad you posted. As excited as I am for Rachels kids I was getting a little discouraged about Zenyattas. I just don’t know that much about the racing game. Everything you said makes perfect sense and I feel a little rejuvenated. Thank you!
You are seeing is precocity in Ziconic because of his sire Tapit, the Tapits for the most part run at 2 and this over road Zenny’s slowness to start so he was a good sire for her. However, Zi is small as Tapit is 16 hands and not as muscular as Bernardini so he may not be as strong as Zenny but being smaller he may be quicker. Will have to see. Zi is very much influenced by Tapit, will have to wait to see Zenny other than her amazing beam which is one of he most important conformation inheritance for Zi.
Love and hugs to all
pamhomeier
Thanks Tizgood! I am totally excited for the boys! Can’t wait till CoZ runs again and Ziconic gets his first chance. I have always been a Tapit fan but Bernardini just isn’t my favorite and I know it is totally because he won the Preakness after Barbaro broke down. Pretty stupid but I just can’t get over it. Still love CoZ though!
Yes! JD’s race reminded me of a certain magnificent mare who loved to come from WAAAAY back, then come surging past as though the others were standing still!
It was something.
Maybe show Coz the video:)
Ahem. Sorry. I still think he has stuff. It seemed as though he was fighting the bridle, fighting the bit, etc, and now he looks relaxed and happy with his rider (to my inexpert eye!)
That’s a lot when you think about it!
Maybe horses are like kids, some are late bloomers!
Not sure JD’s style will be to close, he just dropped out because he did not
get it right away- realize he was in a race. It took him some time to figure it out like JV said. He let him figure it out and when he got up to the horses and then he engaged
and ran. He does not have a style yet. Only his first race.
We are the designers, the engineers, the builders of our lives. But we are notorious for not staying with any one of these things to complete it because we are afraid something is developing in another area that we don’t know about.
Stick to it. Study it out and get so involved that nothing else can compete in importance. See each detail, measure every idea, refine and improve until you know it like the back of your hand. Be steady and consistent and never count yourself so important that you cannot stand corrected. Albert Einstein put it this way: If A equals success, then the formula is A equals X plus Y and Z, with X being work, Y play, and Z keeping your mouth shut.
For him [the old Indian] to sit upon the ground is to be able to think more deeply and to feel more keenly; he can see more clearly into the mysteries of life.

Just heard from Angela with a very encouraging update on Bentley. The vet and the specialist farrier saw him this afternoon and made a corrective show for him to wear. Blood flow to the foot is good and they believe he should recover fully with time and stall rest.
Want to thank all of you for your prayers and sweet concern for this beautiful boy. Love all of you. Hugs, JB
Good news! I’m happy to read the results from the vet and specialist farrier seem to be that Bentley is on his way to a good recovery. Whew! Keeping him in prayers.

Great news about Bentley and continued good thoughts and prayers.
I don’t know why. Today was sad for me. I could not get our Z Princess off my mind. What an awesome filly she was. To me she was everything her wonderful mom is, and there was so much to look forward to. Watching her grow up, maybe seeing her race. My heart will always be sad that she left us too soon. I will never give up on Coz, and I’m really looking forward to see Zi run. As a horse lover, it doesn’t really matter to me if they do good or not. Just the fact that they came from our Zenny is enough. Will go to bed tonight thinking of kissing soft noses of Zenny, Coz, Zi and our sweet Z Princess.
Thank you for your continued prayers for Bentley. Your post reflects my exact feelings about Z Princess and I feel the same as you do about COZ and all of Z’s babies. Love and Hugs, JB
Dear Donna,
My sentiments completely. Zenyatta and all of her babies mean the world to the whole Z-family. Z Princess will have a special place in our hearts.
Dear Judy,
Appreciate Bentley’s dropshot. Great news. Still praying for his healing.
He sat easily on the ground and leaned his back against the rough bark of an oak and spoke solemnly of a problem relatively new to Cherokees. “Time was when ka ni gv na w that doctors call depression was not in our camp. We had our land and families, but it changed. Old ones cry to leave land and trees, children wave little hands. Hardship not new, reason new.
“A scar is depression in skin. A hurt is depression in soul. Medicine cure cuts, but only Spirit cure hurt. Speak to it in your prayer and tell it go. Refuse it a place and always say thank you. Sing some, too. Deep in soul, sing, and it iron out depression.”
I am afraid that the white men are not speaking straight…

It looks as if our girls Merin and Celyn have began their long journey to Africa who knows?Merin hasn’t been seen since Monday and Celyn yesterday.Monty and Bobby bach are still around plus a certain lady called Blue.Maybe they got fed-up with the welsh rain.Ychydig bach o hiraeth.Hwyl fawr fy marched annwyl.Yn cyryd gofal.Sheena. http://www.facebook.com/dyfiospreyproject
Dear Sheena,
Blue should be ashamed of herself, divebombing Bobby like that, he held his own and kept calling an invader, glad Merin in back to help him. Shows how vulnerable these
youngsters are. So hope Celyn and Glesni are safe and are finding good weather.
Love and hugs
Dear Kathy.I have never understood how children can get depressed. We never knew the meaning of the word.I thought maybe the girls would leave this weekend they could be hiding on the Dyfi we have had a lot of wind and rain.Blue has turned very aggressive.Poor Bobby bach is on the receiving end. She’s frustrated.i think.A lot of “hiraeth”this time of year. All the furbabies I have visited are well found a new one JJ the hospice therapy dog.Her video went viral and she has nearly 54000 friends now.Hovis went out for a canter yesterday and nearly ended up in Scotland!!I heard Victor Espinoza is on “Dancing with the Stars”this season!Hope you have a great day.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.Sheena.XOXO

Dear Donna:
Thank you for your continued prayers for Bentley. Your post reflects my exact feelings about Z Princess and I feel the same as you do about COZ and all of Z’s babies. Love and Hugs, JB

My sentiments completely. Zenyatta and all of her babies mean the world to the whole Z-family. Z Princess will have a special place in our hearts.

August 26 Cherokee Devotional
