Dear Sheena,
Poor Monty, one chick eating heartily on the nest,
the other screaming on the post as Monty sits calmly
on the other side. I give Monty such great support for
his wonderful job as father of his family and so miss
Glesni, godspeed safely to Africa. So look forward
to your return in 2016.
Happy Sunday Sheena and delight in the twin pandas.

Dear Shirlee, Just loved your comment about jumping over the coffee table. I hear what you are saying. If Pharoah is in the Travers I don’t know if I can watch it live. I don’t think I can. I am just worring about this grueling year catching up with him at some point. The horse I don’t think has anything else to prove. He’s magnificent. As I think we all know any time a horse or jockey gets on the race track they can not only get Life Threatening Injuries but Life Ending injuries. I have stopped even mentioning him running at work to customers etc. As they seem to be livid about it. I get .What are they trying to Do. ………
If they do run him I’ll be giving it all I’ve got in prayer for him. I always pray for them all, but I am so worried about the grueling year he has already had.
Amen Peggy. I worry for them in races all the time. AF has had a very busy season and some of the ones he is facing are lightly raced or have had some time off. Upstart had a nice rest after the Derby and my boy T Red has only raced 3 or 4 times this year because of his foot problem. Will just say prayers and maybe not watch the race.
On a lighter note. Taco has his first start tomorrow and since he can’t read, doesn’t know how many expectations are riding on his back. All he has to do is just cross the finish line safely.
Watched Morning Line on TVG today. They showed AF working with his owners present saying he continues to maintain his speed and stamina. Also, regarding Beholder, her finishing time in the PC was equal to AF running times and she continues to improve. Wow! Their opinion was that she would finish no less than 2nd in the BC. Yes, different running style, but fun to speculate.
Beholder has certainly stamped herself as a contender for the BC Classic and does now have an automatic entry in to that race. AP has never raced against older horses. We shall see. Unfortunately, many of then match-ups that the public would love to see never come to pass.
Dear Terry, Everytime I think about these grueling races the beautiful face of Ruffinan crosses through my mind and heart. I think the only race she lost was the one that killed her. I think sometimes the humans have to just know when enough is enough and help the horses. I’ve said enough, but in my opinion its wrong.
carol in arkansas
I think….Ruffian was never behind in any call of any race…until the match race that killed her…
shirleeinindy
Peggy,
I always worry about the girls going against the boys. Our Queen, Zenyatta, is a big sturdy girl and there was no way she was going to be shoved around or intimidated by any of the boys. It sounds as if Beholder’s team are going to put her welfare first.
Tizgood
Shirlee it is quite interesting Beholder is quite coltish, she has a personality like Goldikova, but does not bite. There is a great article in Bloodhorse today
that Mandella describes her personality.
Terry Crow
In my opinion, Ruffian was the best filly to ever look through a bridle. Oh, what might have been.
Dear Peggy.I am sure American Pharoah will be fine.He is a young strong horse. Our steeplechaser Red Rum raced from 1967 until 1978.He was,as they said, bred to be of little consequence and had very hard races in the beginning of his career. It was when he moved to Ginger McCain stables and won his Grand Nationals that he became a “national treasure”.Enjoy AP while you can.Love and hugs Sheena
Like Peggy, I am concerned for AP too, only because I think he’s had a grueling scheduled since the first Saturday in May. Yes, he’s been up to the challenge and he is magnificent. I just hope he’s not being pushed. I hope his connections are doing what is best for him.
Godspeed beautiful boy; you have nothing to prove.
I do feel that Art Sherman and CC are a perfect example of a trainer who wanted what was best for his horse and whose advice wasn’t taken. As TC said, in the case of AP, we shall see.
Safe and Sound, first and foremost, to all. Love and Hugs, JB
Tizgood
Dear Judy,
You are so right about CC, the owners saw $$$. And
took the reins from the trainer.
But remember BB the trainer is running the show,
not Zyat and AP did not run much before TC races,
he has not been over raced. He has lots of energy
not like Seattle Slew after the TC and the Hollywood
Park disaster. Again owner driven.
Love and hugs
Mary Margaret in Central Georgia
Dear Judy,
I agree with Tizgood. Sad what happened with Seattle Slew and California Chrome. If owners would only listened to their trainers.
Certainly agree. Unfortunately, the real money is now in the breeding end of the business and Zayat’s debt problems preclude him from taking any chances.
Just a question….but i have seen American Pharoah refered to by his initials AP and by the phonetic sounds of his name…AF….is thereba reason? Not saying anything is wrong either way
Dear Judy. Are’nt Mei’s cubs so cute and they are both strong and healthy.Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT Cap Hercules Frank and all the sweeties.Love and hugs SheenaX
The cubs are absolutely adorable; I am surprised that they alternate feeding them with
the mother, they are so noisy, small and hard to believe they willbe black and white panda’s. Love the Panda cams.
The louder they are, the better! That means the twins have healthy lungs! Believe it or not, by the end of this week, the cubs’ black markings will begin to emerge and within two weeks, they’ll look like little mini-pandas complete with saddles, eye patches, and socks. Already Mei’s twins have turned the NZ Panda House routine completely upside down. Besides continuing to care for Mei’s husband Tian Tian and daughter Bao Bao who turned two on Sunday, the staff has doubled in size in order to perform 3-hour switches on the twins, so each cub gets equal quality time with their gorgeous Mommy Mei. The baby not with Mom gets to spend time in a nice warm incubator that is probably lined with adorable baby blankies and hand fed by bottle. I would give ANYTHING to feed one of the cubs just once!
Tizgood
Goodness I did not realize her family was so large and would it not be wonderful to feed one of these darlings, I would be a little nervous, they
are so precious.
I am still in a state of “Wow!” Beholder was just magnificent! Watching her breeze by the two front-runners was incredible! I have to trust that Bob Baffert knows what he is doing as far as sending AP to the Travers is concerned, but we will all be holding our breaths. I hope that both AP and Beholder get a chance to win at the BC!
Such a great comment by Mandella in Bloodhorse- He said he was taken a back by her
move around the turn. It was like she was leaving the starting gate. He said he thinks the boys were making sexist jokes going down the backside and she got pissed.

@Barbara Wood–I have already asked Ann’s opinion about NC State this upcoming football season and now I am asking yours about Baylor. National championship?
Oh My Goodness. Did Taco ever show his stuff. Out of the gate at a walk and just loped around the track then here he came out of the clouds to win! Did Rachel and Curlin proud.
Forgot to say that I hope this quiets the haters who for months have been making nasty comments about him and his team. Guess he runs pretty well on those malformed legs!
Dear Max.Have you heard the rumours about Aidan,David O’Meara and Coolmore?David is one of our most up and coming trainers and he has quashed rumours that he was about to join Coolmore.I noticed Aidan was rather quiet at York last week.Who knows??Sheena.
I have not heard that, but anything is possible. Ballydoyle results have not been the best lately. As you know, they always like to win big time. They must also be missing Ryan Moore. Is he gone for the rest of the season?
Wow, what a great race by Jess’s Dream and wonderful ride by Johnny. Know Jess Jackson yes has to be looking down from heaven smiling. I am heading to Ocala in the morning and sometimes I see some of the Stonestreet connections. I will definately tell them congratulations if I am close enough to tell them. Know they will be getting a lot of Congrats.
Judy, Max, looking so forward to seeing a baby by Leroidisanimaux.
Always remember what Uncle Johnny said in an interview about Leroi at Woodbine right after winning the Woodbine Mile with Danny. Leroi is one of the best horses whom he has ever ridden. He said that Leroi is a freak in terms of racing talent, and the only bigger freak than him is The Danimal.
Dear Max.I have been reading some of the comments on RP’s facebook someone said Aidan got the hump when Ryan got the top job at Coolmore. There are rumours he may branch out on his own and train NH horses.I don’t quite understand Ryan’s injury. All his tests are clear but he may not be back until next season.I find there is always some truth to a rumour we shall see.Taco was superb today! all those naysayers!Sheena.
Agree with you. The lads at Ballydoyle, as O’Brien calls them, never pull any punches. They are fierce competitors. If he goes NH, young Joe can continue to ride for his dad. O’Meara sounds like a good guy. That was a freaky injury for Ryan. Sometimes these things are a lot more serious than we first expect. Hoping that he returns in good form. He was also riding for Mullins from time to time, and Sir Michael.
The Hannons had some good results in France over the weekend.
Great win by Jess’s Dream! I didn’t make it home from work in time to see the race, but brought the replay up on my computer. He was out of the frame for most of the race & then came flying down the stretch. His explosive come from behind win reminded me of you, Zenyatta!
Alas, Samantha Nicole, Rachel’s full sister did not fare as well two races later. She trailed for most of the race, but managed to get up to fourth by the end. I was able to watch this race live. Johnny V was riding her as well.
Zenyatta, I’m hoping to get to the track to visit your boys this Thurs. morning. I will bring treats for them & the other horses. I hope to get some good pictures this year.
If I can find out when American Pharoah will be stretching his legs on the track that morning, I will try to watch him, too. I did not get tickets for Saturday, with that kind of crowd, I would rather watch the race on tv from a comfy chair.
To John Shirreffs, OMG, So Happy. Just read Johnny Velazauez will be riding Smart Transition. Just love the Smart Strikes. And, just think Johnny is just such a great rider. So Happy, wish you all the best of luck.
I’m glad to see AP’s BFF Smokey is back in action! The comment about how strange it is to people watching a horse get a bath is funny to me because crowds of people used to show up to watch Zenyatta get HER bath!

I’m glad to see AP’s BFF Smokey is back in action! The comment about how strange it is to people watching a horse get a bath is funny to me because crowds of people used to show up to watch Zenyatta get HER bath!
Max
Two things are great for the soul: seeing a horse get a nice bath and watching a horse having a peaceful sleep.
