This last race was really one of her best. She was blocked by the others for far to long to make her move if you watch the reruns. She still did it and lost by a mere 10 inches. The photos right after the finish she is ahead by a nose. Mike ran a great race for her as allways!
I hope she goes to a barn in KY that we can visit because I’ll make the trip to see her from Michigan. Her owners are the best and bring class back to racing!!!
I thought Secretariat was the fastest racehorse in the world, until I watched Zenyatta’s last furlong. Even as the coming years pass, and new champions come along, she will always were the crown of a queen. Thanks for all the great runs, Hayley
I have always loved to watch horse racing and I’ve seen all the great ones run. But Ms Zenyatta is some horse, she’s almost human. Forget about it, the dancing is just out of this world. You rock Zenyatta!
I watched Secretariat race his Triple Crown and loved every second of it. Zenyatta beat that experience by a mile-what an awesome, awesome horse-For me she gets athlete of the century.
This horse sparked more debate then almost any sporting personality I remember. Here in the UK the people who think they know best didn’t rate her achievement and saw her as inferior to other horses such as Goldikova. They missed the point: Zenyatta’s charm transcended racing. She was more then one dimension. She brought charisma and beauty as well as power and grace. She brought people to support her and some will stay to support others. What a fantastic achievement. So good fortune to Zenyatta and her progeny.
Never had been to a horse race and I am so very happy I saw this beautiful animal before, during, and after the race and can add that I have never witnessed anything so rare as Zenyatta. The little dance she does before the race was absolutely worth seeing in itself.
I’m not even into horse racing but I had to see that race. OMG! It took my breath away. So exhilerating!!
She is the winner ~ No doubt. I kept thinking about that race for days. And then read everything I could about Zenyatta. Now I’m a big fan. She earned her retirement but it sure would be wonderful to see her race again. I hope there is a movie in her future. Congratulations!
We were having a special day at Oaklawn in 2008 when we saw a dark filly that towered over the rest of the field dancing and playing her way to the infield where the saddling was taking place. When Mike Smith was tossed up, he wrapped both legs around her barrel and stroked her neck and talked soothingly while she decided if he could ride her. They got things sorted out, but when they came under the wire the first time, she was “ga-lumphing” along in last place with her ears flopping. Then about halfway around the last turn, there was an explosion and we saw a dark shape slingshot around the field and zoom to the lead. What you can’t see on TV, is that Zenyatta makes good horses look slow!It was an impressive display! And when Mike turned her back to the winners’ circle, Zenyatta’s body language said, “Well, that was fun! Let’s run around again!” The other horses showed the hard race as they trudged back to the barns, but there was Zenyatta still dancing and playing as the groom took her back. I just wonder what she could have done at a mile and a half. All our family and friends heard about this performance (and subsequent races) until they became fans as well. How great to have had 3 years to enjoy her success and her personality! Thanks to all for nurturing Zenyatta!
What a goddess of a horse! And to the person who had nothing but criticism for her final race…I can’t help but wonder how truly ignorant you truly are to how this race works. This is not a race of a pegasus running against pigs. The competitors of Breeder’s cup races are usually of such high skill that ANYTHING is bound to happen. As for the discussion on her retirement, While I would love to see her break hearts for another year, I’d rather see her retire now while she is still healthy and sound, than have her milked for all she’s got, and have them find out too late just where the end is for her. If I am not mistaken, age 6 is getting up there in years, for a competing racehorse?
And also, just to throw this out there, RA has had her glory moments but I don’t see why she got HOTY last year and not Zenyatta. Hancock’s theory does not hold up, because if Breeder’s Cup is the deciding final factor then….. But wait!! RA didnt even run in it last year, and near the end she spent more time DODGING races than running them. I hope the Queen recieves her final crown this year!! <3
@chels I know what you mean, its hard to find good help these days. People now days just don’t have the work ethic they used to have. I mean consider whoever wrote this post, they must have been working hard to write that good and it took a good bit of their time I am sure. I work with people who couldn’t write like this if they tried, and getting them to try is hard enough as it is.
Zenyatta, it was such a pleasure seeing you at the 2010 Breeders Cup! It was my first Breeders Cup and I went especially to see you! You took my breath away! Can’t wait for you to come to Kentucky – your California friends will miss you dearly, but they can come visit Kentucky – we love to see folks visit our Commonwealth. Blessings always!
Zenyatta…my wife and I went to Churchill just to see you run and you were simply amazing. You have given us so many thrills these past few years. Thank God you are retiring sound and happy. Your owners and entire team have always done the very best for you and it certainly shos. you are a very happy horse, indeed! We will always try to keep up with news about you and will plan to visit you in Ky. in the not too distant future.
Yes I agree let her run again until she decides to quit…I never even knew about Horse Racing until YOU.. Zenyatta.. what a sweet horse and everyones champion.. What races we shared with you… and even this last one.. you were the winner to us!!Please let us know what she will be doing as she has Won Our Hearts…She is the Horse of the Year 2010!!
Please let Zenyatta wear her “racing gear” shadow roll and her cute polo socks for December 5th Zenyatta day. Let us see her one last time looking like she did every time she raced. I know a lot of people are steamed at Mike Smith, but please, let him gallop her one last time by the stands in her racing gear.
I’m wondering now if we can talk about your sites statistics – search volume, etc, I’m trying to sites I can buy adspace through – let me know if we can talk about pricing and whatnot. Cheers mate you’re doing a great job though.

I have nothing but great respect and admiration for ALL connections of Zenyatta. Thanks for ALWAYS placing her welfare above and beyond anything else.
