We’re happy to share this much anticipated update. Zenyatta and her new paddock mate, Vixana, have become fast friends. Both mares are owned by the Mosses and they both trained with John at Hollywood Park. Dottie tells us that they learned to break from the gate together! This week brought beautiful weather to Lane’s End and Ann stayed at the farm to spend time with Zenyatta, who seems to be in good spirits.
Scroll down for two short videos.
Enjoy!

Watched the videos yesterday, but was too emotional to post. Thank you, Mrs. Moss, for loving and standing by Zenyatta in her time of need. I know you were devastated too. Leaving her to return to California must be quite difficult.
Am so happy Our Queen has rediscovered someone with whom She shared earlier times. Since Zenyatta did not like the close fit of the gate, she needed a friend then too. Looks like Vixana can be a scamp!!!!! Good to see that show of personality.
It helps me deal with my grief to think of those 2 beautiful mares sharing the sun on their withers, the sounds of the farm, and lots of love and attention.
xoxo to All,

I am so happy for Zenyatta that she has a girlfriend to lean on and comfort her. Such a tragic loss for her.. two babies so soon. The last baby had something very special about him. I told my husband that if he had the right trainer he would be a winner… He was an old soul and it was in his eyes. My heart breaks for you all and for “Z”. God bless her and her BFF….. forever.

Thank you for sharing these photos and the videos of Zenyatta and her new/old friend, Vixana. It lifts my heart to see our beautiful queen still looking her regal self and satisfied to hang out in the sunshine with a new friend from the past. In that first video I loved how they moved together to get Zenny to a spot for her extreme close-up. She clearly does love her Ann!! The second video was fun to see Vixana’s playfulness in not wanting to be lead in to the barn, but going along on her own. I am still so sad over the loss of dear little colt, but I am glad to see Zenyatta is healthy and sound. My heart goes out to the Mosses and all the rest of Team Zenyatta.

I, too, watched the videos yesterday, but couldn’t post because I was blinded with tears.
There’s nothing like having a girlfriend to make everything better. And they look so beautiful together! :) Zenyatta is much smarter than we are; she knows there will be brighter skies and more babies when the time is right.
Love to all and God Bless you and keep you, Ann.

I wonder why eggs are not harvested from Zenyetta and let other mare s carry some of her foals, taking a load off such a beautiful and prize mare .
MaryAnn Donahue
To Barbara D ~ Thoroughbreds can’t be bred that way if they are going to race. I’m sure others here can provide more details.
Reading the comments here that are so full of love touch my heart and bring tears of gratitude that such pure emotions surround Zenyatta.
Kate
You can’t really harvest eggs easily in horses – you can do an embryo transfer, in which a mare is bred, the embryo is flushed out before it’s implanted in the uterus, and it’s implanted in another mare. However, that’s a technique usually used on mares who still have an active career in the show ring, or who are valuable broodmares who lack the ability to carry a foal to term. Zenyatta is not in training and she’s able to carry a foal to term just fine – it was just bad luck. That’s horse racing though,
The Jockey Club is still somewhat antiquarian on breeding methods though, they don’t even allow artificial insemination, so they definitely won’t allow ET. It’s primarily used in Quarter Horses and Arabians, the breeds that can have some big money behind them.

So relieved to see these wonderful videos Team Z. Vixana is just as beautful as Zenny, and just as independent it seems. “I can go back to the barn all by myself, thank you very much”. Cute.

Zenyatta .. always the lady ! She knows it’s dinner time .. so very glad she’s got an appetite !

Thank you for these pictures and videos. I think we all feel just a little better knowing that Zenyatta is looking good, doing well, and enjoying the good life with her new best friend.
I’m so happy that Mrs. Moss has stayed to spend time with her girl. The love that she has for Zenyatta is awesome. I know that she is helping Zenny just by being there with her. She also takes great videos and photos. She seems to know exactly what I want to see of the Queen and Vixana.
I don’t know that I’ll ever be able to think of Zenyatta’s loss without shedding tears. I know….we all have to go on but this was just SO tragic beyond words. It’s going to take awhile. In the meantime, knowing that Zenyatta is OK and seeing her beautiful face helps take some of the hurt away from my broken heart.
Thank you all for taking such great care of our Zenny and for letting us be a part of her life.

Thank you Ann for taking time off from your OWN grief long enough to shoot and then share these videos with us. I know your heart is broken and I think I can safely say that being with “Your Girl” is helping both of you.
Zenny has her new “old” friend to assist her; I hope that you also have plenty of humans surrounding you with the same loving care and support.
None of us will ever forget Zenny’s little “carbon copy” colt just as we will never forget her beautiful Z Princess — all we can do is remember and cherish those memories and look ahead to brighter and happier days ahead.
Much love to you, Ann. You are one special lady!

So glad to see the videos of Zenyatta and her best friend. Old friends are the best. It is so good to see them together and see how well Zenyatta is doing with her new, old best friend to comfort her. Helps everyone to see she is not alone.

Wonderful heartwarming videos! Close up amazed me to see how much bigger Zenyatta’s nostrils are!!! All the better to get more air when running! Big advantage!! Such a beautiful mare!!

Thank you, thank you, thank you so much for bringing the ZNation some relief and joy with these videos. It must be so difficult for Ann, who shows amazing strength to help others in this difficult time, and to be around the farm when other foals are being born.
Animals are much more resilient than we humans in so many cases. Zenyatta does KNOW ALL, which still brings me worry about her state of mind, but it looks like the experts have done everything they could to ease the transition over the last few days. And I agree, it is very encouraging that Zenyatta was eager to go in for dinner.
Please know that we are still praying for you all and sending positive thoughts for continued good health for Zenyatta, the Mosses, Team Z, and the Lanes End staff.

Zenny, beautyfull mooving of mares on walk, when horse move her his head lil to low and move her his head lil to left lil to right, neck and back of horse have good long rest, i like how Vixana dont want groom to lead her on dinner, she want to walk and lightly rush there by herself
Crystal Harrison
I think that these pictures and videos are helping everyone deal with Zenyatta’s devastating loss of her dear foal. It is heartwarming to see the 2 mares , the old friends from their younger days, back together and clearly getting along. Queen Z will be fine and let’s hope that little Z Princess is looking after her little brother and watching from above ♥

Thank you so much to Ann Moss for doing the videos and Team Z for getting them posted. As so many others have said, it is like a balm to soothe the soul to see these two beautiful girlfriends, and Vixana’s “catch me if you can” certainly brought a lot of smiles here. There aren’t any new ways to say how good it is to see Zenny doing normal horse things (including interest in dinner!). She continues to be a champion in so many ways. Sending love to her, the Mosses, Team Z, the folks at Lane’s End, and all of this amazing Zenny family.
