Naming a horse is not the easiest thing. Not only does it need to be brilliant but it also needs to be available. So…
Being born on International Women’s Day and Purim a day of celebration, under a full moon and with a star on your forehead Not to mention having Zenyatta be Your mom and be the First born…. Well we searched the stars and with the desire to have Zennie represented too….. We’ve come up with the name that we hope encompasses all:
COZMIC ONE
May the heavens bless him and he has all the chances to be the bright star he is :)
COZ for short?
And…..Thank! You! EVERYONE for All Your Suggestions Hopes and Dreams!
Stephen
Zenyatta is the greatest horse i have seen. She has a mind of her own. I only saw secretariat on film which he was awesome but Zenyatta has that look of beauty. She’s the queen on the race track. I just cried when blame beat her. I just want to say she’s always in my heart. Forever and a day!
Elaine Harrison
COZMIC ONE !! LOVE IT !!
Linda
We always got friends together & added a bottle of wine. Came up some amazing names!
murphy
Cozmo!!!
Barbara Flynt
Cozmic One… Perfect! I am certain a great amount of thought went into such a fitting title. I can just imagine hearing it being called at race tracks across the country! It has a great ring to it. “And it’s Cozmic One on to win by…….” May he have a blessed career, continue on to be a healthy colt and make it to the winner’s circle like mother and father. Coz you are beautiful!!!
Jane Collins
Absolutely, utterly, cosmically perfect. Go COSMIC ONE….Go! God I love this horse. He was born on the same day (only 22 years later) as my son Tom. Guess who will be cheering him on when he races in California?
Jane Collins
Got so carried away, *COZMIC* One, of course….not Cosmic. Must pay homage to the Queen Z!
Mariel
Well I just LOVE it!!! Very zen, for a very zen little guy. And my oh MY does he look like his mama… Best of luck, love and bliss to this bright new star!!! <3
Ronni
Cozmic One – great choice!! thank you so much for continuing to share everything about Zenyatta and her babies. Wishing all the best to Coz!!
Katie P
Great name! I too keep wanting to call him Cozmo instead of Coz. But either way I love it!
Zenyen
Like the name and the call name is cute …
COZ …. Colt of Z.
Very nice.
Trina Nagele in So Cal --PUR
Nice observation, Zenyen! High hoof!
Jonnie Danger
I’m not very fond of that name at all. Z12 comes from serious blood, his pedigree includes some of the most noted champions racing has seen. So to give him a name that sounds like something you’d get “on the side” at an Amsterdam cafe is just disappointing. I’m sorry I’m being negative, but I feel like his name is just silly and faddish.
Alfredo
Says Jonnie Danger………….?!??!?!
LOL!!!!!!
Markay Soll
Poor Jonnie!
Please, tell us the name that you picked out for him….
Considering he isn’t yours to name in the first place, I’m guessing that no one cares if you like it or not! :-)
Marion Ambler
There is nothing ‘pedigree’ in Zenyatta’s name. Zenyatta’s name came from an album by The Police. ‘Zenyattà Mondatta is the third album by The Police, released in 1980…The album is the last of the Police’s early era, influenced by reggae and punk and featuring few musical elements on top of the core guitar, bass, and drums.”
Heidi
You’re clearly a bandwagoner–a true racing and pedigree fan would find “Cozmic One” horrifying.
LauraJ (Cincinnati OH)
So you get to decide who is a true racing and pedigree fan? The Mosses, who have a stable full of current and former graded stakes winners, who support California racing, TB retirement organizations, and are open and generous with fans worldwide, don’t count? Do you assert that they aren’t fans? Do they not care about pedigrees? And I suppose you’ve decided that everyone on this blog who doesn’t agree with you is a non-fan as well.
“True” pedigree fans realize that many, many great horses past and present have names that don’t reference their parents at all. Secretariat? Seattle Slew? AP Indy? Zenyatta? Giant’s Causeway? Frankel? Galileo? and so on. I bet even you can think of some.
If you want to give a horse a name that you like, buy your own.
Heidi
AMEN–finally someone stating what I’m thinking! The colt deserves a noble name. “Cozmic One” is anything but, unfortunately.
nancy
totally agree johnnie- it’s a bad pick.; i thoroughly dislike it, and it does not represent his pedigree. there were so many far more creative and relevant names submitted by fans: Stingz Like A Bee; BernZ Identity, even Zendini. very disappointing that people clever enough to come up great names like Zenyatta, Giacomo, Set Them Free, Zazu & Cozi Rosie, cozmic one is disappointing, uncreative and pedestrian.
actually it just plain suckZ
LauraJ (Cincinnati, OH)
There is no requirement that a name reflect the horse’s pedigree, and doing so can lead to some weird concoctions. The Mosses certainly were not and are not under any obligation to hold a contest or solicit fan input. Why should they, especially after all the cwrap Stonestreet put up with from people who didn’t like their choice for Taco. Anyway, Zendini sounds like a pasta dish.
Marshall (NC broad)
Very well said, Laura J.!
I totally concur.
I think the name is great, but even so, I am not the owner so it is not up to me to pass judgment. I try to uphold the adage that I heard many times when growing up: “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.”
I am not always successful, but I do try!
Congrats to 12Z on your official name! Go Cozmic One, all the best!
Gloria
Thank you for keeping fans updated. So great to know the name!!
Suzie Birks
Perfect name for a future racing star.
Mark
Personally, I liked 12Z! And now 13Z! And believe her next should be 14Z and so on!
LauraJ (Cincinnati, OH)
They will be. That’s the short-hand designation the farm uses: 12 Zenyatta, 13 Zenyatta, etc. These are not official names, though.
Cris Chastain
What a great name for a future SuperStar , love queen Z and her progeny
Nancy/Ca.
Wow you are looking more and more like mom Cozmic One!! *sniff*
Meg
I love it! It’s not silly at all. I do like the nickname of Cozmo tho too.
Satoshi
Why not “Prince Z” His mom is the Queen!
Mark
Yes! Why not “Prince Z”????
Cathy M. / Richmond VA
Too Cute, but it should read Cosmic Won, because we all know he will be a winner ;)
nancy
and that would be incredibly arrogant, just asking for bad luck and in poor taste. actually sounds like a name mike repole would choose.
Francine Ferland
HI! Just love the name ……he just look like a Cozmic One………..Congratulations! No more Z12, thanks for letting us know…….Love Z and her colts….
Alfredo
You’ll never satisfy everybody.
I do like Coz!
Fran
Great name for Zennie’s first born. May he be charming, may he run as though he has wings, may he have great heart like his Mom, may he be safe, and may he succeed to the best of his ability. Congratulations!
Marshall (NC broad)
Amen, Fran!
Hoping all those things, too.
Cheers
HelenRae
Excellent, we look forward to seeing more of Mr. Coz!
Judy
I think Cozmic One is perfect. Call him Coz or Cozmic but the name still fits. It is stellar. A racing star…..
Jackie from Maryland
Love the name!! Cozmic One….he’s outta this world :-) Hugs to all <3
Mikaela Oustayan
I love it!! But I think that we will still call him 12Z, being the Queen’s first baby, it’s hard to think of him anything but. :)
Jo-An
What about the name that The Moss’s picked from The Contest? “Trail of Tears” from The Police Song?
LauraJ (Cincinnati, OH)
It was “Driven to Tears” and the Mosses did not sponsor the contest nor pick the winner. It was sponsored by the now-defunct Thoroughbred Times.
Rhonda
Awesome, great choice and he sure is maturing into a good looing boy!
DeniseinAZ
Stellar name… excellent choice!! Cheers!!!
Guido
Love the name!!!!! Perfect for him! He is a gift from the heavens here to make his mom proud!
wyominggrandma
I t think its a great name and certainly fits a Thoroughbred. Thank you so much for allowing us to know what you have named him. I also like the Coz for short.
