Two years ago today Zenyatta delivered a curly maned filly we called Z Princess. She was on this earth a mere six months, but her memory will be with us forever. Happy Birthday, Z Princess.
Dear Judy.I hope that the cat turns out to be Jordan.I pray each night he can be found.Gosh, there seems to be a new kitty at Nerissa’s house a black cat the peep has been tempting with food has sort of, moved in.He/she is called Here Kitty Kitty! Both Rushton and Andy have had their lion cuts ready for summer Jennifer posted pics of them. They are big boys.Monty has ignored Blue today although she has called for food.He has chosen his “wife” and not his mistress. He’s been incubating and fed Glesni we shall see what happens in the coming days.Sort of sad for Blue but that is nature in the raw.A follower from Germany has visited Betsy and she was very happy.Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT Cap Hercules Frank Bentley and all the sweeties.Love and hugs SheenaX
Waiting to hear from Peggy. Cute name for the new kitty. Bet the boys look great in their new haircuts. Feel bad for Blue; doesn’t sound promising for her chick; poor baby. Glad to hear Betsy is doing better. Love and Hugs, JB
This is an article with info on some of the Derby Hopefuls voted on by media members around the Country. Interestingly, they’ve included Songbird in their votes . Love and Hugs, JB
Judy,
Enjoyed the article and especially the pictures of the horses. I am sticking with Exaggerator and possibly Suddenbreakingnews. Of course, all on the blog know my record for picking Derby winners. My longshots the past 2 years have managed to finish last! Hard to go against Nyquist but like Exaggerator for the 1-1/4 distance. Perhaps his team will send me money to not pick him.
Judy, Judy B.; Thank you for these links. I sure did enjoy them!! I can truly see how AP separated himself from the others. As far as the list; to me it is any body’s guess on a first Sat. of May. Wow.
love n hugs, Sally B
Thanks for the links. The 2nd and 3rd installments of the American Pharoah story are very interesting. I also enjoyed the Derby Hopefuls piece — nice selection of greys, too.
Have a good weekend. Hope you get to see Papa Charlie and company!
Yes, this Derby is wide open I think. So much talent.
Marshall, visited Charlie yesterday. Alex had him in the ring practicing his bows. He was more than happy to accommodate her and was rewarded with a cookie every time he got it right. Visited Hudson today; she had quite a workout as she’s getting ready for a show on May 15th in Connecticut. Thanks for asking for them. Love and Hugs, JB
Watching the Princess makes my heart both smile and break. The loss of that precious girl and all her promise is so incredibly hard. Even through the tears, I am so grateful for the tribute paid to the Princess by Ann. Thank you, Ann, for your generosity in sharing the beautiful Zenyatta and her babies with us. We all mourn with you, and share hopes for sweeter days to come. Bless you!
Hi All~Just wanted to say be sure to click on the “Visit the Z Princess Memorial” above. It’s so precious. Makes me smile and touches my heart. What a wonderful filly she was!
Love to all mourn. Remember that this life is not all there is. We will surely meet again on the other side…
A happy St George’s day to all my English neighbours.Today is also the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death. The greatest writer in English history it’s also said to be his birthday.I was never a great fan in school but have grown to appreciate the Bard of Avon.My favourite was always “The Merchant of Venice”.We have some other anniversaries this year too the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charlotte Bronte, the 150th of Beatrix Potter, the 100th of Roald Dahl and sadly the 75th anniversary of Virginia Woolf’s death. Here are some quotes from the famous man
All the world’s a stage and all the men and women merely players.
They have their exits and entrances and one man in his time plays many parts.
We are stuff that dreams are made on and our little life is rounded by a sleep.
This above all:To thine ownself be true, and it must follow as night the day thou canst not be false to any man.
And how can I forget Romeo,Romeo! wherefore art thou Romeo?
It’s all greek to me!Sheena
Dear Max.I know I forgot the most important.I am shaking like a leaf after Sprinter Sacre’s fabulous win in the Celebration Chase. He was phenomenal. The utter joy of seeing him back to his best and the reception he is getting.Un de Sceaux made too many mistakes I am afraid I am happy today!Sheena
Dear Sheena,
Thanks for the reminder about William Shakespeare. His birth/death date of April 23 and the years, 1564-1616, are important facts that have lived in my brain since high school English Literature courses. We were urged to remember them, and I did! There are some other dates, such as the Battle of Hastings 1066, for example, but The Bard was very important.
Thank you, too, (and Max) for the quotes that have become so familiar to our society.
Congratulations to Sprinter Sacre and connections! And happy St. George’s day, too.
Dear Maeshall.History was one of my favourite subjects at school 1066 and all that!.I have never been a fan of modern Literature can you imagine the authors and playwrights of today being remembered in 400yrs rime?I watched “Jane Eyre” for the umpteenth time the other day and it is just as fresh now as when I read the book in school. My mother hated history and didn’t even know what happened in 1066!Now I have managed to calm down after Sprinter’s race. His health problems have been well-documented and we all thought he should have been retired so full credit to Nicky and his team for persevering.Love hugs and woofs Sheena
Hopefully this link works a lovely video from Coolmore with Kitty Matcham foaling a gorgeous filly by Australia.Sheena. http://www.facebook.com/CoolmoreStud/
Congratulations to the amazing Sprinter Sacre!Who would have thought 2 years ago he would find his form again?Dreams do come true sometimes. Also a wonderful win for Menorah and Champion jockey Richard Johnson in the Oaksey.Sheena
Very sad news from the Irish National stud Big Bad Bob has been fatally injured in a paddock accident today.Aged 16yrs he hit a post and broke his neck.He was owned and bred By Christina Patino of Windflower Overseas Holdings. She adores all her horses and I extend my sincere sympathy to her and all at the stud.BBB will be sadly missed.RIP Sheena
How awful! This is so tragic. Condolences to all connections.
RIP Big Bad Bob, beautiful boy.
Just when all seems right, tragedy strikes. There have been so many of these strikes recently. Rest in Peace all who have left us too soon and so suddenly.
PAUL NICHOLLS TAKES THE TRAINERS TITLE AGAIN!!!HUGE CONGRATULATIONS.Sam Waley-Cohen won the big race with the Young Master.Paul deserved it after the sad loss of Kauto Star last year.Sheena Here comes the flat season now.
The Sandown stewards fined Mullins for withdrawing Vroum Vroum Mag in the Gold Cup. He wants to run her instead at Punchestown in a more valuable race. He hit back like The Fly. Vroum on the other hand has got a nice trip out of it. Some horses like a little travel. Eric Lamaze’s Hickstead loved trips and jumped better if he had a van ride before his show competitions.
Yes,I saw that on RP.Willie was the first to congratulate Paul. It’s been an exciting battle for the Trainer’s title Paul has had a pretty difficult season he just doesn’t have the “big guns” in his stable anymore.I am sure his Angel Kauto was looking down on him.Did you know his ashes were buried at Kempton last September with no announcement? The final insult for Paul and his team.Mag would have loved her trip to Sandown. It was a lovely day there.Sheena
Max
Maybe no big guns in that stable, but a lot of winners just the same. It’s a little strange about Kauto’s ashes. However, it might have been a private matter for the owner. He was heartbroken about the loss.
Apparently, Shorty will be back in action at Punchestown. The wrist is better. He’s eager to ride. The guy is like iron.
Charles Fipke, owner of Danish Dynaformer, has donated $100K to the fund for disabled jockeys.
His fans will be glad to know that Danish Dynaformer himself is back in action after his winter vacation in Florida. He got a 4th in his return to racing at Keeneland on April 10. Dad is Big D. Mom is Danish Wildcat. He’s a mighty fine horse with those parents.
Thanks, Max. Outstanding, Mr. Fipke.
Nice knowing DD is back in action. Was very worried about him when he was in Fla and the virus hit the training facility. Stay healthy big guy!
DD trains with Shakhimat who won the Transylvania at Keeneland on April 8. Attfield is apparently pointing Shak toward the Queen’s Plate. Jockey is Emma Jayne Wilson. There is some talk of running him in the Preakness. I’m not certain where DD is headed next, but the teddy bear goes with him. All Attfield horses have teddy bears. Don’t try to take them away, especially from a Dynaformer.
Ann NC
Shak is a beautiful boy and with Emma Jayne aboard, very exciting.
Preakness, oh boy. He has Big D in him on his Mom’s side. DD and Shak must keep that barn hoppin’. Attfield is top notch giving his horses teddy bears, so sweet! Thanks for the info, Max.
Dear Max.I am replying here to your comment about Shorty. Our jump jockeys are incredibly tough.I remember when shorty had a splenectomy he was back riding in 2/3 weeks. His dad Ted said how bored he was at home AP has put on about 2st in weight now and has spent hours in the dentist getting his teeth fixed!Recall him riding once with blood pouring from his mouth having lost some teeth in a previous race. Now he can smile.Sheena
Max
Have you noticed that young Joe has also put on some weight since he retired as a jockey and started training jump horses? He looks a lot better. He was too thin for that 6 foot frame. He’s had some training success too, although the horses still race in his dad’s name until the licence comes through.
AP is one amazing jockey. I think all jockeys are amazing athletes. It takes stamina and courage to do that job. You have to love it and the horses to keep going.
My heart is sad that Z lost her foal but my heart is very happy that Z is herself is happy and healthy :) My thoughts are with her most every day and the appreciation to her human family for continuing to share her with us :)
Dear Max.Moosie is doing well these days trying his hand or should I say hoof at showjumping!!He knocked a few down (well he is the Moose after all)He also came 4th in a dressage competition.A lot miss his antics on the racecourse though.
I expected Kauto’s ashes would be buried quietly I asked Kempton Park if they could inform me and they said the ashes were interred last year. There was a barrage of criticism for Clive’s treatment of Paul when Kauto died but the fans deserved to know.I well remember the ceremony Dessie had and Best Mate also.We were all heartbroken when Kauto died I couldn’t have loved him more if he were my own.It hurts deeply we will never know what happened to such a magnificent horse. There is no closure.Sheena
I don’t buy into the closure theory. There is never any closure when a horse or anyone dies. Knowing what happened just doesn’t help much. It doesn’t help me one tiny bit with the passing of Z Princess or 16 Z. I think of Big D every day, and a lot of others like Nick. You can only carry on as best that you can. The pain of the loss is always there.
Dear Sheena, Max, and Judy,
Knowing the circumstances sometimes helps and often still leaves questions. But I believe love is love . . . . always. Knowing the circumstances helps our hearts put to rest some of the questions – but not all. We always carry the love, and I think God helps our hearts to remember the best memories – over time. But it’s OK to still honor our loved ones by the joy they brought to our lives. It is bittersweet – the good memories and also circumstances and events that bring about the bad ones. I believe we will see our loved ones again. I’m counting on it. with love, Elizabeth
Dear Elizabeth.I can never find peace unless I know the circumstances perhaps it is just me.I know it would help me where Kauto is concerned.Life is all about love and loss and we all have to move on with our lives after heartbreak.I will always remember the joy Kauto brought me when he was a racehorse. You are correct God helps us to recall the good times. This is why I continue to pray for Peggy’s Jordan. The not-knowing must be soo stressful for her With love Sheena
Dear Judy.A 3rd egg at the Dyfi about 10.05pm Glesni is resting now. They had some technical problems today. We were meant to get some news of Blue hopefully tomorrow now.A fabulous day’s racing at Sandown today very exciting end to our main jumps season.Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT Cap Hercules Frank Bentley and all the sweeties.Love and hugs SheenaX
Monty will be a very busy boy soon feeding everyone. Hope Blue and her chick do well. Glad you enjoyed the racing today. Goodnight. Love and Hugs, JB, LM, PC, HT, Cap, Herc, Frank, Bentley and all the Sweeties
Nice win for Stanford and jockey, Javier Castellano today in the Charles Town Classic; gate to wire. Bernie’s boy, Imperative, didn’t have his usual closing move. Hope he’s OK. Here’s the replay. Love and Hugs, JB
Dear Judy,
Thank you so much for your prayers. Usually, I’m a positive person, but Zenny losing her foal brought back memories of a sad time in my life losing a little one. I think you and your words always define the word ‘encouragement’ which is greatly appreciated, and helped me so much that day. Am back to ‘normal’. with much love, Elizabeth
Dear Elizabeth,
Good to hear from you. Sorry about the sadness in your life, but relieved that you have weathered it. The clouds have let some sun shine through, thankfully.
We missed you.
Glad you’re back. Sorry you’ve had the sad experience of losing a little one. Please know all of us, here on Z’s Blog, are here for you to lean on when you need a friend. Love and Hugs, JB
Dear Judy.Thinking of Elizabeth also and hoping we hear from her soon.Monty has chosen and is ignoring Blue now.Such is the law of the jungle.Wonderful piece by Emyr about Polygamy and a rather sad video of Monty completely ignoring Blue’s cries for food.Far better it happens before any chicks arrive though.Love and hugs Sheena
Dear Sheena,
Didn’t see your note today until after I just posted one to Judy. Thank you so much for your prayers. I appreciate you so much and always love reading your posts. As with us all, I felt such sadness for Zenny. Am back to ‘normal’, which usually for me is making the most of each day with a positive and happy disposition. Thank you again for your encouragement. with love, Elizabeth
Dear Elizabeth. So happy to see you back to ‘normal’.We all have memories of sad times in our lives.Today I am thinking of my father on his birthday and they were playing one of Barbra Streisand’s records on the radio(he loved her and of course it’s her birthday as well).I felt it was his way of communicating with me somehow.God bless always and try to remain positive.I do.Love and hugs Sheena.
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Sheena,
Isn’t it remarkable how things like that happen sometimes? I think your father was communicating with you, too. Very comforting.
Happy birthday to your father and to Barbra.

Some insight into the situation at the Dyfi.A rather sad video at the end of the link with Monty completely ignoring Blue’s cries for food. The law of the jungle.Sheena. http://www.facebook.com/dyfiospreyproject/
It is sad for Blue’s one egg but, Glesni has three eggs. Hopefully, they will survive the season. I wish each female had their own man to take care of them.
There is definitely a shortage of males here. It’s such a pity Blue cannot find a partner she would make an excellent mother but she will be fine.Glesni’s eggs have a good chance as usual.Hugs Sheena

Dear Kathy,
Love Sundays. Thank you for your encouragement. One very sad day out of so many wonderful years is rare, so I am truly blessed. Was feeding one of our new baby bunnies this morning. We have lots of wild critters here at our ‘sanctuary’, but the bunnies win for cuteness. The next are the baby squirrels. The most misbehaving are the ridiculous roadrunners – but we still love them too. One very tiny baby bunny came right up to me this morning. Usually it takes them awhile to get the hang of a.m. and p.m. feeding time, but he (or she??) knows the schedule already. Thank you again for your kind words and the devotionals you post – they are always filled with wisdom. with love, Elizabeth

AP is one amazing jockey. I think all jockeys are amazing athletes. It takes stamina and courage to do that job. You have to love it and the horses to keep going.

Max
I don’t buy into the closure theory. There is never any closure when a horse or anyone dies. Knowing what happened just doesn’t help much. It doesn’t help me one tiny bit with the passing of Z Princess or 16 Z. I think of Big D every day, and a lot of others like Nick. You can only carry on as best that you can. The pain of the loss is always there.

Dear Max and Sheena:
Yes, it’s true, knowing how it happened doesn’t lessen the heartache. Same way when we lose loved ones in our lives. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Judy,
Thank you so much for your prayers.

It is sad for Blue’s one egg but, Glesni has three eggs. Hopefully, they will survive the season. I wish each female had their own man to take care of them.
sheena.davies(wales)
