Two years ago today Zenyatta delivered a curly maned filly we called Z Princess. She was on this earth a mere six months, but her memory will be with us forever. Happy Birthday, Z Princess.
Thank you Marshall ! You would have loved my George M. Red-Dog–he was born on the Fourth of July (named after George M. Cohan, of course), was a mixture of Chow, German Shepherd, Boxer and St. Bernard, and weighed 90 pounds. I got him in front of the Von’s supermarket in 29 Palms, CA,when he was 7 weeks old, while on a trip with my best friend, who adopted his sister ! He always thought he was a lap dog,and would throw himself up on my lap at 90 lbs., with just his back feet on the floor ! He always slept on my bed–I got what ever space was left over !!
He was gorgeous–with short, but very thick, hair–a lovely golden-red, with inner legs and tummy cream colored, like a boxer. He had upright pointed ears, which did not stand up until he was about 6 months old. One day one stood up, and a few days later, the other—surprise. He was tall–his paws would touch my shoulders, when he jmped up on me.
He’s been gone over 10 years but I still miss him.I always tell people who wonder if I will get another dog, “George is still my dog, he’s just away at summer camp!” Since my condo is so small, I have cats now–6! Two are in their 20’s though.
Good to hear from you–I always love your posts and will give Barnaby and Traveller your best ! XOXO
Thank you for this post. I think you and George M. Red-Dog were very lucky to have been in front of that Von’s in 29 Palms — and his sister was lucky, too. What a perfect name you gave him for being born on the 4th of July! I am sure he was Too Cute with one ear standing upright, too.
I loved reading your description of George M. and feel as though I know him. 90 pounds of pure love! Bailey does the very same thing at least once a day — she throws herself on my lap, too, with her back legs still on the floor; however, she does try to get her whole self in my lap sometimes(61 pounds). Of course, this brings Smudge into the mix, also. I call this the “pile on” — I am buried beneath dog-love! Uncontrollable giggles ensue.
Fur babies definitely thrive under your care, Sue. Two of your cats are in their 20’s, Wow!
Barnaby is a very lucky boy to have you in his life. I love your posts, too. Hope Barnaby gets some Fuji apples soon and shares them with Traveller.
Sue–After reading your post about George my mind went racing back through the years and stopped at Corrie, my old basset hound whom I loved dearly. You never really forget your old companions
You definitely do not forget them for they continue to live in your heart always along with the many memories. I think one of the most remarkable things about the heart is its infinite capacity for allowing new inhabitants, too — each has its own special spot, and none is diminished by the addition of another.
Goodnight. Just got word today from Angela that Willow is in foal. Praying all goes well. She is due in March 2017. Love and Hugs, JB, LM, PC, HT, Cap, Herc, Frank, Bentley and all the Sweeties
Dear Judy.I ,too, pray all goes well with Willow. We know only too sadly how things go wrong.Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT Cap Hercules Frank Bentley and all the sweeties.Love and hugs SheenaX
Dear Judy B.,
Best wishes to Willow. Hope all goes well, too. It could be an Irish blessing on Saint Patrick’s Day. Will pray that the luck of the Irish is with her.
Jumping legend Bob’s Worth has been retired aged 11yrs.Winner of 3 successive races at the festival the Albert Bartlett hurdle in 2011,the RSA in 2012 and his greatest moment came in the Cheltenham gold cup in 2013. He will parade at Sandown this Saturday before retiring to Hillwood Stud with Charlie and Tracy Vigors.Happy days Bob.SheenaX
Judy–I hope Lola Mae is doing well. Your empathy for others shines through your posts.
Judy B from Rhode Island
My Dear TC GP:
Thank you for your sweet words. Lola Mae is doing really well. She’s walking on the surgery leg (right hip) normally. She runs, jumps and I’m just so grateful. The left hip is still displaced, but she’s showing no sign of pain or mobility problems. Thanks for asking about her.
Marshall–I just picked up Barnaby’s organic Rainbow carrots today, for the two of them on Saturday. Will get his Fuji and Honeycrisp apples tomorrow. They get them every Saturday and Sunday, when we go down to ride. Barnaby especially loves the red carrots, so I pull most of those out for him.
Do I spoil him?? Oh–just a LITTLE bit !!
He deserves it all, though–he is the MOST wonderful boy–I still can’t believe he is mine !! Actually, I am HIS !! You know how THAT goes !!
I definitely know how that goes! So glad to hear about the yummy treats — Barnaby will be so pleased to have fancy carrots with Fujis AND Honey Crisps. He does have discerning taste!
Fuji apples are my favorites, too; although, I found a new(new to me) variety a month or so ago, Ruby Frost apples. They are sweet with a little tang, but the texture is super crisp. Yum! They may be seasonal here, though, and I have seen them at just one of the stores, The Fresh Market.
Barnaby does deserve to be spoiled, and I know it is such fun to indulge him. Give him some gentle strokes on his neck and kisses from me on his soft nose.
Dear Zenny and Zenyatta Family
Have wanted to post, but have had such sadness the past few days. Thinking of you all. with love, Elizabeth PS will look forward to posting again soon.
Dear Elizabeth,
Sorry to hear that you have had much sadness the past few days. I will think of you and keep you in my prayers.

Z Princess was beautiful and looked like she had much talent. Even though Baby Z16 was only with us for a few days, it’s easy to see why they were so enamored of him. He looked just as beautiful with his big beautiful eyes and flashy white blaze.
Part of me hopes they try for another War Front so maybe one of the foals will have the chance to fulfill their promise. Part of me is afraid to try again.
Karen,
Planning a trip to Claiborne next month. Don’t think they would tell me, but I am going to ask if a certain rather large champion mare has come to visit. I, like you, would like to see her go back to War Front since the two ill fated foals were so beautiful and Z Princess looked to be the perfectly formed race horse.
Hovis bids us farewell for 2 weeks anyway!!!Mother, mini mother and dad(isuppose) are going on their holidays to mouseland.Look out Lincolnshire our boy is let loose!Safe trips to all our jumpers on the last day of the main season at Sandown tomorrow Go Sprinter! plus”my”Nobby is running at Plumpton today.Sheena http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/blog/hovis-friday-i
Dear Sheena,
Thanks for the Hovis update. Poor Hovis, he is so abused and misunderstood! I do hope he gets a little bit of a break while Mother is on the two week vacation. I am sure he will be anything but bored, however.
Hovis will miss Mini Mother for sure. Godspeed to SS and all the horses this weekend; safe and sound. Goodnight. Love and Hugs, JB, LM, PC, HT, Cap, Herc, Frank, Bentley and all the Sweeties
To look at the pictures of Z Princess is to remember what is possible with this next breeding…….a dream come true then and maybe a dream come true in the future. Is it luck, fate or a brilliant breeding decision? I cross my fingers as all three of those elements come together. Jan in LA
Thank you, Team Z for sharing these memories of Z Princess on her birthday. We shall always celebrate her day of birth and I’m grateful you have posted the memorial with all the photos and the message from Ann. What a beautiful filly she was and I’m glad she was with us, even if for such a short time. Thanks for continuing to keep us updated on the life of our Queen.
Many thanks for your kind birthday wishes. One of my co workers took me to lunch at El Torito plus there was a yummy chocolate cake! Oh, Steve gave me a beautiful new necklace and we’re having a special birthday lunch with his aunt on Saturday. Lots of kisses from Nikko and Sugar, too. All in all a great day. Thanks again!
So glad you had a great birthday and that it continues through Saturday which of course, it should (you could celebrate the whole week and/or month!). Way to go, Steve! Jewelry is always a fine choice. As for Nikko and Sugar, puppy kisses are priceless!

Hi Marshall–I will definitely pass on the neck strokes and nose kisses and tell him they are from you !! Every week he has messages that I pass on to him. He looks so intently at me as I’m giving them to him, he seems to know that they are important !
Hope all here have a peaceful weekend and may Zenny be much comforted by her friend, Vixana–hope the lovely weather holds there and they have a perfect time together.Kisses on the skyward winds for our dear ZPrincess and ZAngel.
Hope you, Barnaby, Traveller and Sue(Boss Mare) have a lovely weekend, also. I think it would be heaven to be out riding in Idaho with you and friends.
Come and join us, Marshall—we would LOVE it !! I think I have mentioned before that one of my “lottery dreams” is to fund a Zenny Blog Reunion out here —wouldn’t that be fun—especially, if it was free !!
I would be onboard for that! It would certainly be fun. If I ever get to the lovely state of Idaho, I will definitely checkout Sun Valley in order to say hello to you, Barnaby, Traveller, et al. Meanwhile, good luck with your lottery dreams! ?
This just breaks my heart….RIP little girl….Always think of her when the “Longines” commercial is on during racing, that one racing thru the paddock reminds me so much of ZPrincess, curly forelock and all….HUGS TO ALL
