Here are today’s new photos of 12 Zenyatta, who weighed in on Friday at 191 lbs. Today he and his mom were turned out with the mare Spooky Minister and her three week old Candy Ride colt. They kept to themselves today, but we think they’ll be best buds in no time!
We’ll have more photos for you soon.

Please note the comments of his trainer. They remind me of John Shirreffs’ view of dealing carefully with great horses.

@Max and signofthetimes-Here is a hall of fame horse joke that I hope you enjoy. The way I heard it originally it was about generic horses, but I will fill in with our favorites. It seems Zenyatta and Tasty Temptation were in adjoining stalls and bragging to each other about when they were racing. Tasty was first and went on and on about her record in Canada. Zenyatta, of course, bragged about her string of 19 straight wins, including beating the males in the 2009 Breeder’s Cup Classic. Just about that time a female greyhound wandered into the area and joined the conversation. “That’s nothing,” said the greyhound. ” I won 50 straight races at the dog track, beating males regularly and in my last race no other dog dared to oppose me.” Having made her point, the greyhound walked out of the barn. Zenyatta then turned to Tasty and said “Can you beat that. A talking dog!” Today’s “golden” redneck joke-You might be a redneck if you have a reserved cell down at the local jail. Vicki B-I have some pope jokes if you would like to receive them. My email address is turkey67@charter.net. If you, or anyone else, would like me to share them with you just send me a message with your email address and I will get back to you ASAP.

Terry Crow
If you do, we can meet tomorrow. Actually getting together with you is always a good idea.
Terry Crow
I am not criticizing you. A good comedian is always looking for a new audience. Here is another golden oldie. You might be a redneck if your husband left you for last year’s winner of the hog calling contest. This is not in reference to “you”. When the club meets, I direct certain jokes to certain members. We are always recruiting new members. I don’t know where you are from, but we would certainly welcome you as a charter member or maybe the president of a chapter depending on where you are from.
Max
Terry. Great joke. I love how you have adapted it to Z and TT.

Dear Terry,
So love the addlibbed racing horse and dog joke; since I was the owner of a lovely female greyhound. Greyhounds can be quite competative. They wear muzzles when racing so they don’t bite each other.
Some of the A and AA group greyhound racers are very vicious on the track and “puppy dogs” at home. When I first got my greyhound I used to take her to run with other greyhounds at a dog park. One day she was in a pack of about 8 dogs running,
she got bumped over, they are taught to roll over and stand up immediately when they get bumped and fall. She stood up immediately, looked around at everyone and never ran another step. “She said, I am done with that life for good, I prefer the couch”.
Terry Crow
I have posted this before but, in light of your post, it bears repeating. Racing greyhounds actually do not run under their real names. The theory is that someone at the track could yell out the dog’s name and distract them.
Marshall (NC broad)
Terry,
One more for the road — one more post, that is! Thanks for the great jokes. Loved the horses/greyhound joke with Zenyatta and Tasty Temptation in the lead roles! Also, the redneck joke makes me think that Otis of Mayberry must have been a redneck! LOL

NEW ARRIVAL! THREE-QUARTER SISTER TO CREATIVE CAUSE BORN AT TAYLOR MADE FARM
At 7:45 P.M. last night, DREAM OF SUMMER, dam of Grade 1 winner and current leading Kentucky Derby contender, CREATIVE CAUSE, gave birth to a beautiful gray filly.
This filly is from the first-crop of Grade 1 winner, ESKENDEREYA, a son of leading sire Giant’s Causeway, making her a three-quarter sister to CREATIVE CAUSE.
Like CREATIVE CAUSE, this filly will be raised at Taylor Made Farm in Nicholasville, KY for breeder James C. Weigel. The mare will be bred back to Giant’s Causeway.

Max
Judy. Thank you. I will check on the Forum.
Along with Galileo, Montjeu is sire to some of the greatest race horses who are currently running in the UK and Europe. He was indeed a special horse. He had an aura about him. One article said that if he were a human being he would be considered to be an “eccentric genius”. A great many of Northern Dancer’s progeny could be so described, for example Nijinsky. You may also recall from the article today on Frankel that his trainer said that he too was “tricky.” Frankel is a son of Galileo who like Montjeu was sired by Sadler’s Wells. This is very sad news.

Dear Max:
Montjeu was really starting a legacy in GB of his own to rival Northern Dancer. Gone too soon. Hopefully through his sons and daughters, his line will continue to produce great horses. Hugs, JB

I think it’s all right to ask this question here rather than in the Forum. Does anybody know how long a foal wears its foal tag on it’s halter? I’m thinking it must be quite a while or maybe there are other ways to identify them as they get older. I know they eventually get a lip tatoo, but think that’s quite a bit later. Thanks for any info on the subject. Marty R.

I’m glad you asked this question because I’ve also wondered about it.

Dear Darlene and Z Fans:
I keep looking at these photos of Z and Little Z. I have never seen a mare more loving or attentive to her foal than Z. She always knows exactly where he is. She’s either looking at him adoringly or kissing him or nuzzling him; it’s just remarkable to me. Maybe it’s because he’s her first. We’ll have to see how she is with the next one. He on the other hand is so confident and poised for so little a guy. I love the photo where he’s peeking around Z’s neck in the direction of the camera. There is just something special about her; everything she does, she does in her own unique way. Z really is unequaled; one of a kind. I just love her with all my heart. Hugs, JB
Max
Judy. I think that it is just the real Z. She is the best, and she has passed her greatness on to her foal. She will be the same with all of her foals. I love a lot of horses, but none more than Z.

I am leaving to take care of some business and may not post again until Monday, when, due to a diminishing number of requests, I will post another horse joke. In the meantime, here are some Hall of Fame redneck jokes. You might be a redneck if you have ever surrendered to the police in exchange for cigarettes. You might be a redneck if your neighbors refer to you as pig farmers and you don’t have any pigs. You might be a redneck if you take your dog on more vacations than your husband. You might be a redneck if you’ve ever had to put on a pair of boots to go to the bathroom. And, especially for Brenda S, president, and Abigail in Montreal. member of the Canadian chapter-You might be a Canadian redneck if you ever valet parked a snowplow. Have a good weekend, all.

Just watched the races from Dubai and they had two breakdowns and one pull up, I’m waiting to see if TVG updates. The first one in the Gold Cup the Sheiks own horse Fox Hunt went down with two broken legs. They stopped the race because they couldn’t get the horse off the field in time (euthanized) and after voting decided to run again after the last race. One horse pulled up, don’t know why, and the other Bronze Cannon looked like he injured a front leg. Horrible! It doesn’t just happen in American racing as some would have you believe. This was on the grass! RIP Fox Hunt.
Game On Dude came in way back in the pack with Royal Delta who had a rough trip….very disappointing for the US.
signofthetimes
Sue,
RD did not have a rough trip. Horse in front of her
Quit, she settled a little longer but made a great run.
She learned a lot from this race and may be in position
To go for BCC. Tepeta surface is sticky so horse without
Stamina, our US horses, can’t do it. Also horses in
Dubai and Europe race longer. Winner of world cup is
5 yo. The US is way too focused on Triple Crown and
Studding unsound 3 year old. We are in a rut and very
Obviously not internationally competative. Sad.
Sue Fredrick - Wisconsin- Thankful
Dear Sign, i agree with a lot of what you say, however we run on dirt mostly and they don’t ,so when they come over here its to run on grass. The few that run on the dirt tracks don’t do so well. I have to think that if all those horses broke down on the same grass track there must have been a problem with that turf course, don’t you. Sometimes I don’t think they don’t give the horses enough time to adjust after that long flight and to get used to that artificial track. The guys on TVG are the ones that said RD had a rough trip but you must have picked up on something I didn’t see. She was training so well over there its just such a shame.
Barbara Wood (Texas)
Oh, no! Such terrible news! I just hate to hear when the worst happens. Such a reminder of Eight Belles. But thanks for the warning, Sue.

Opinion Poll wins Ill-fated Dubai Gold Cup
By Steve Haskin
Updated: Saturday, March 31, 2012 4:00 PM
In the rescheduled running of the $1 million Gold Cup, two more horses – Grand Vent and U.S.-bred Bronze Cannon — were injured and pulled up, while two others – Mikhail Glinka and Makani Bisty – were eased. Bronze Cannon suffered a fractured left front leg and was euthanized. Grand Vent suffered a hind leg injury and was sent to a veterinary hospital.
The winner was Godolphin’s Opinion Poll, who defeated the former Coolmore’s Joshua Tree by three-quarters of a length under Frankie Dettori, with South African-bred Zanzamar a short head farther back in third. The time was 3:23.73.
The victory capped a big night for Dubai ruler Sheik Mohammed’s Godolphin, which captured the World Cup (UAE-I) with Monterossa as well as the Godolphin Mile (UAE-II) with African Story.
