Here are today’s new photos of 12 Zenyatta, who weighed in on Friday at 191 lbs. Today he and his mom were turned out with the mare Spooky Minister and her three week old Candy Ride colt. They kept to themselves today, but we think they’ll be best buds in no time!
We’ll have more photos for you soon.

Dear Sign:
Rooting for Royal Delta. Didn’t realize Aiden O’Brien’s boy was a jockey. Keeping it all in the family. Hugs, JB
Patricia/Far northern CA
Joseph O’Brien is 17, and already 5’11” so understands his career as a jockey may be short. His father said “as long as he can make the weight” —- but I’m sure will not allow any of the dangerous bulimia, etc. so many jockeys struggle with… He won with St. Nicholas Abbey at BC last fall and his dad was SO proud.
Aiden O’Brien so often looks like a sourpuss, but I’ve seen numerous interviews with him and he comes across very pleasant, if reserved— and besides, the horses he trains are worth MILLLLLIONS every year. A lot of responsibility.

Hi everyone! Just curious if anyone knows what happened to Lisag from texas from the old diary? I’ve noticed almost everyone else came back but haven’t seen her unless she changed her name. Liked her comments and just was wondering. Thanks

Have been very bust lately putting out fires. Since the Pope has been in the news lately, here is a hall of fame joke concerning him. The Pope was visiting a city on the eastern seaboard and was getting ready to go to his next destination. Since it was relatively close, it was decided that he should go by car with a chauffeur. The Pope was getting tired of been driven around, and asked the chauffeur if he could drive. The chauffeur agreed, and climbed into the back seat of the limo while the Pope took over the driving. The Pope had not driven a vehicle in quite some time and was enjoying himself. Unfortunately, he did not keep an eye on the speedometer and exceeded the speed limit. A highway cop stopped the car and took one look at the driver and became very agitated. He phoned the station asking if there were any VIPs traveling in the area that he should be aware of. The police chief, trying to be funny, asked the patrolman why he was asking. The patrolman replied that it must be someone very important that he pulled over but he didn’t recognize him. “Well,” said the chief, is it Joe Biden?, hardly anybody recognizes him.” No, said the patrolman, “Is it the governor?” asked the chief. No, said the patrolman. “Well, is it the president?” yelled the chief. No, the patrolman replied. “Who could it possibly be?”, the chief said. “I don’t know,” said the patrolman, but he has the Pope as his chauffeur.”

LoL, I like that! As a long-time-former Catholic, I’m always up for Pope jokes, thanks.
Terry Crow
I have a few. However, some may not appreciate them.
Vicki B. near Hollywood Park
No, I wasn’t suggesting “more”. I should probably have kept my pagan-status to myself. Not one of the popular topics here. Thanks, Terry.
Max
Terry. Not to get too technical, but doesn’t the Pope always drive around in the Pope mobile, a custom Mercedes M Class? There would be no mistaking that vehicle and to whom it belongs.
Anyway, it is a funny joke.
Terry Crow
Max-A point well taken. However, the Pope Mobile has limited range. I had the pleasure of seeing the Pope mobile in Los Angeles several years ago. A most unique vehicle.
Max
Terry. Do you have any more horse jokes? They are good. I do not always get your redneck jokes. What does that say about me? Pretty sad?
Vicki B. near Hollywood Park
Terry’s comment about “A most unique vehicle” got me wondering, so I found this page of pictures — I had never seen the vehicle — it sure is different! http://www.google.com/search?q=Pope+mobile&hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=9mk&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&channel=np&prmd=imvns&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=b_N0T-rjNO7PiALlyrinDg&ved=0CEgQsAQ&biw=1188&bih=823

Tasty was such a part of Zenny’s life this past year that I miss her and I’m sad we’ll never see them together again. Remember seeing the photos showing how Tasty watched over Zenyatta so lovingly? I know, I know–that’s how it is in breeding…can’t have foals of different ages together, but i wonder if the two mothers miss each other.
Vicki B. near Hollywood Park
Yeah, Barb, I wonder too. I wonder if they ever “run into” each other just being moved around the farm, I like the thought of that, but have no idea if they ever get to meet and greet. I have read that horses have long memories, so I’m sure they’d remember, if they had the chance.

QUOTE from Jumbletwist on “Tasty’s Foal” Discussion, March 27: “Wow, I’m starting to think it possible to share my bday with this foal! Only got to make it til sat.! (maybe saying that out loud will jinx me and bring on some labor, lol!)”
A Birthday Poem for Jumbletwist
(for March 31, 2012)
Dear Jumbletwist,
Tasty Temptation missed
Your birthday
By no more
Than four days,
We see–
Praise be!
Methinks
When you talked of a “jinx”
You just might
Have been right—
Posting your thought
That you a good chance stood
Your special day
With Tasty’s foal to share
Maybe DID cause that lovely gray mare
To get the birth underway!
Now look what splendor you’ve wrought!
Within hours of your post time
We,
Who had nervously waited,
All heard
Tasty had brought
A colt truly fine
Into the world—
Hoof, hoof, hoof ray!
And, dear J.,
Let it here be stated
We all hope that you may
Have a most happy birthday
This Saturday!
Happy birthday, Jumbletwist, and many, many more!

Louise Castello and Carol in Utah, I was wondering the same thing. I have her direct email so will try and find out. Miss her postings also. I can’t believe 12Zenyatta is growing so fast. I bet Ann and Jerry are so homesick to to him and Zenyatta. I don’t think I could stand to be apart from them.

Life Is Sweet had a filly by Bernardini, must have been early this morning because the date is March 29, today’s date. I think it’s interesting that her sister, Sweet Catomine, also had a Bernardini filly this year. Oh my goodness, decisions for their owners. I’m glad that at least initally, 12Z probably won’t be racing against LIS’s newest foal.

Judy. I agree with Terry Crow. See below. Horses should race as long as they are healthy and can handle the pace. I guess that we should be grateful that Shack will race in his 4th year. He is a great runner. All heart.
Terry Crow
We’ll settle for small favors. I thought Shack should have won the Eclipse award for three year old last year. Just my opinion.

Hello Everyone – I hope this works. I was “just browsing around” and found this recent news re: Shackelford’s retirement. Happy Retirement big guy. I find myself flat on my face, I pick myself up and get back in the race!
In the wee small hours of the morning . . . I am going to sign off now!
It’s 1:30 AM here in NC, so goodnight and sleep tight!
Marshall (NC broad)
Happy Retirement, Shackleford! We will miss seeing you.
Goodnight to all, and sweet dreams!
Zenyen
He’s not retired yet.
Hopefully he will have a good year racing and participate in the Breeder’s Cup!
Terry Crow
In my opinion, which I know doesn’t mean much, the retirement of our favorite racers at such a young age is hurting the sport. I know there is huge money in breeding, but racing them a tad longer would help. Quick, without looking it up, who is the best older handicap horse right now?
Marty R / Colorado
Terry,
Would you give hints? Eastern horse, Western horse, gender….just any little clue? Thanks for considering it.
Marty R.
Rosemary McCauley - So. Cal.
Terry: I saw something recently on one of the horse racing channels and I think it is a horse (trained by?????) whose name has “Impossible” in it?
signofthetimes
I wholeheartedly agree. Banishing the boys to
The shed at 3 and 4 just creates more horses,
Many unwanted as they are not talented. And they
Can possibly breed 100 mares per year for 16 years.
That is a lot of horses.
Game on Dude???
Terry Crow
Pretty good guess and I would agree. But, the question was rhetorical and there is no right or wrong answer. I was just making the point that hardly anyone thinks of horse racing unless the triple crown in involved. @Rosemary-I think the horse’s name is Mission Impazible, but I may not have the spelling right. I wish to congratulate all of the posters. It was the type of discussion I hoped to trigger. Probably belongs in the forum but I am rarely there.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Sign:
That’s the sad part. Hugs, JB
signofthetimes
Yes, Terry. You are right. Every year every horse racing fan in America
waits for that TRIPPLE CROWN winner. I do like Union Rags, but really like more that aspect of racing.
I personally am excited about Royal Delta’s run in the Dubai World Cup.
I think she has a good chance, she has won on the artificial surface, is very
up and game. Needless to say a very talented filly. Recent photo of her and Bill Mott walking; her ears are pricked and she is ready to go; especially after kicking up her heels the other day with her exercise rider.
LauraJ (Cincinnati OH)
Probably Game On Dude or Caleb’s Posse.

Both worthy of respect. Caleb’s Posse looks like a sprinter, however.
