Happy Friday!
We hope everyone is enjoying the first day of summer. Zenyatta and her two colts certainly are! Alys sent along some photos from her last visit to Zenyatta’s paddock. It’s the perfect way to kick off the weekend!
The Zenyatta Shop also has a small update this week: The “Zenyatta & Colt, April 2, 2013” print is now available in 8″ x 10″ and 11″ x 14″ sizes.
To top it off, here’s a quick video of 13Z being cheeky with his buddy and Alys’ phone…
Enjoy!

Call me crazy, but how about the name Zenergy for one of her babies? I think Tapit x Zenyatta = Zenergy. No? Maybe not… lol, I was browsing online and loved that word – overthink stuff sometimes :)
Am rooting for Ruler of the World in the Irish Derby.

Kauai Katie (my favorite filly in training right now) and hope her stablemate Teen Pauline runs with her, though I cannot place her above Katie, I love that girl :)
There’s a two year old colt named Gun Roar (Bernstein – Roaring Twenties, by Dixieland Band) who is in the Bashford Manor for two year olds. This guy is half brother to Joans Choice by Alphabet Soup who earned $211,000+ and Salomea (by Milwaukee Brew) who earned $178,000+ he broke his maiden first out at Churchill.
Have a good weekend ahead everyone :)

I hope you saw the video of, Coz playing with his new Jolly Ball? It is featured on the last blog post,I think? It is great viewing,Coz is a ham.

Hi Everyone: Really enjoyed the Lone Ranger joke! I still watch Lone Ranger, Roy Rogers, and Sargent Preston – they are on every week-day in the afternoon on my cable. Those westerns really showed the animals more often; less killing – more riding! Here’s a redneck joke for you:
You might be a redneck if the local hardware store sign says “fresh picked blueberries” and “rattlesnakes wanted”. Nice to see how much Z13 has grown! Do hope there will be some more details on what is happening with Cozmic One at this point in his development. Sleep well to all.
Trina Nagele in So Cal
Good redneck joke, Cathy!
Terry Crow
Cathy-Keep those redneck jokes coming. I had forgotten about Sergeant Preston. He had a dog named King and on the radio was played by a human, if you can believe that. Yes, it was as bad as it sounds.
shirleeinindy
Terry, It is good to be reminded of these heroes from our childhood. I “watched” Sargent Preston of the Yukon and King on the radio all the time. Remember when you stared at the radio and “saw” the action?
Ann NC
Cute joke! The man at my local hardware store is meaner than a rattlesnake, he’s always telling me, ” That ain’t gonna work. Try this.” I think we have peeled off a few layers by now, still working on the last few!

Hovis would make a lovely British comedy along the line of Mr. Ed

It would be such fun to watch.

dear max lovely pic of Hovis. Was thinking of him yesterday when I bought his bread namesake in the supermarket. We’d better start a collection for him no pocket money bless him!!!hugs sheena A prancing pansy is similar to a ponce!!!
Max
Sheena. I remember buying that bread when I lived in England. It is good. I also liked English chocolate.
Hovis the horse has no time for TBs, although he may like the fillies and mares.
Terry Crow
Sheena-It has occurred to me that perhaps you were not familiar with the character, Sheena, Queen of the Jungle. She was first a comic book character in the 1930’s and then was on TV in the 50s. I think that there was even a movie, but I”m, not sure. Her big super power was that she could communicate with the animals. Sorry for any confusion. It was a stupid question and I apologize.
HeidiK Vallejo,Ca (In Awe)
Terry, I loved that movie. I think it was done in the late 80’s or early 90’s. You are correct, she was the female version of Tarzan.
Terry Crow
Yes, I would somewhat compare her to Aquaman. Aquaman could mentally communicate with ocean creatures and Sheena (the character) had the same power with land animals.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Sheena – even I got the “prancing pansy” reference :-) What is this about his namesake bread?
DianaS
Sandy,
There is a bread sold in the UK, and it is Hovis, a kind of grain bread !!!

Millionaire Big Brown colt wins in Ireland
Thoroughbred Express Thursday, 27 June 2013
High-profile American import Darwin scored a comfortable first-up victory in Ireland on Wednesday.
The strapping son of Vinery shuttler Big Brown was drawn against just two rivals in the Boston Access Race (1600m) and made short work of the duo in the final furlong at Naas. Held up in the early stages by jockey Joseph O’Brien, he responded effortlessly to take control and win by over two lengths from Fighter Squadron (Medaglia d´Oro) and Resolute Response (Dansili).
Darwin (3c Big Brown – Cool Ghoul by Silver Ghost) was sent to Aidan O’Brien’s Ballydoyle stables earlier this year. He had won a Belmont Park maiden on debut in October prior to a fourth-placed finish in the G2 Nashua Stakes at Aqueduct.

Sue Noel/Sun Valley,ID
My goodness—the “whirling maelstrom of humanity” (as I like to call the visiting hordes that descend upon us during the holiday times0 has arrived!! Since they are the life-blood of our valley,we are actually glad to see them come, but WOWEE—it is so busy here right now!!!! It has been so busy the last couple of weeks,I am behind on reading everything, please forgive me if I don’t respond to something I should. I just wanted to give you the update on the bareback ride of Saturday before last and a couple of other things,in case you might have been worried that I fell off and got hurt!
On the way down that day, when I told Boss Mare Sue that I intended to ride him bareback for sure that day,she said “don’t you mean you’re going to TRY to get on and fall off and hurt yourself”?? I replied that I believed that I could get on–and I did!! It would,I’m sure, have made a great video for YOU Tube,as a comedy,as it must have looked really funny. I got him up next to the mounting block, wearing just his halter, and,on my second try, swung my leg over his back as far as I could,of course not far enough to get all the way on. He stood still as a rock, with Sue just holding his head. I had my left foot on the top step of the mounting block and there I was. I decided the only way I could get the rest of the way on was to launch myself at his mane and withers and just hope that the forward motion would be enough to allow me to scramle on—and—it worked!!! It wasn’t graceful, but I made it and he was SUCH a good boy!! He was a little frisky at first, just trying to figure out what we were doing, but I was able to sit a trot on him and he did circles and all with just the lead rope tied to his halter and my legs. I was so proud of him–and I found out that he is built just right for bareback riding. I could do it all day—however,I’m not going to do it to him again until I lose some more weight–I think it is too hard for him to have my weight on him without the saddle and pad to help. It was so great to ride him that way–I even kicked off my paddock boots and rode him in my socks!!! After we were finished,I sat on the top of the mounting block and just talked to him for about 15 minutes and he stood there with his head restong on my chest and just listened–sometimes putting his nose up next to my face for kisses. It was just amazing.
Last Saturday,I tried him with his latest new bit–the Happy Mouth straight apple one, which Sue said he had been going in really well for her. She gave me some pointers about my hands and we had a good ride–so will keep trying with that one for awhile. Maybe I WILL be able to keep him happy with a bit. That would be best,I know,as long as I can make it work. Since the weather was heating up and we knew the flies would be out,I sprayed him with his special spray, once again with no halter or anything, and, after I was through, when he was free to walk away when ever he wanted,he stayed with me for about 10 minutes, once again, with his nose resting on my chest, just listening to me tell him how much I loved him!It was magical,I can tell you!
Yesterday afternoon,Sue went down to see the horses and could only see Traveller in the field when she drove up. She walked out to the shelters with a couple of apples and there she found Traveller standing next to the opening of Barnaby’s shelter, guarding him while he slept, onhis side, with head and tail extended,as he was just dead to the world. When she gave Traveller her apple,,he smelled it,and heard her crunching, and opened one eye–then raised his head just a little, and, finally, assuming that she probably had one for him too, stood up! Sue said he looked just adorable, concked out with Traveller faithfully standing guard!! Wish I’d had a picture!!
Will try to catch up with the posts as soon as I can! In the meantime–my best to you all and wishes from all of us,Boss Mare Sue,Barnaby,Traveller, and me,for a wonderful weekend for each of you!!!!!

Sheena. I read that Richard Hannon is one of Moosie’s owners. Maybe he should have a word with Moosie? Isn’t he the top English trainer? Apparently Moosie will stay in training as long as Nigel TD thinks that he still can race. Sounds like Moosie is going to tweet while in his paddock. He’s gaining followers and trending internationally. Pink clearly favors him with his chestnut coat.

Well, when you go away for a while and come back, so much has happened.
Wonderful news on the beautiful Zenyatta in foal to War Front and the great pictures of 13Z.
As I read, I am blown away knowing how many of us have daily struggles in some way or another. Sally B worried about the fencing for Sir, Girl Saratoga and two scary accidents involving her loved ones.
It seems there is always some demon chasing us. Mine is having to face saying good-bye to my beloved dog Sassy ( who lived up to her name) by the way.
Over the past few weeks I have been trying to care for her and knowing that the tumor she has is cancer and a rapidly advancing one at that. I have been in a state of denial and now I have to make the decision on what is best for her and not me. In the past 4 years, I have had to make this trip with my 2 other beloved dogs. Crazy having 3 dogs, but Sassy wandered into our lives as a puppy that was dumped at around 5 weeks of age, so my husband knowing me said what the H–L, what is one more.
It is strange, but they all communicated to me with their eyes, that it was okay to let them go, it is time, I was the one who said NO! Not yet. This time, I am paying attention to that look that is saying release me. Even as I am crying now, Sassy is beside with her paw resting on my foot giving me comfort. So we will be waiting together for the most wonderful vet to come to our home and help Sassy pass over the bridge. She is a wonderful lady and provides a service knowing how hard this time is and makes it as easy as possible.
My husband and I will be right beside her. Mocha and Taz are there and waiting to welcome you home in a life free of pain.
I want to thank Judy Berube, Trina Nagele, Louise Costello, Barbara Wood, Darlene Daniel and Sue Frederick for your responses on my last post.
To Terry Crow and everyone posting on all the old TV shows, Wow brings back so many memories of good times and much needed laughter in my life right now.
To Keta for all your racing updates
To Hovis and Moosie love reading about you, as well as Traveller and Barnaby.
So many to name and not enough time, but every person on this site are special and I have to thank Lane’s End for their wonderful updates on Zenyatta and her boys and a very big thanks to Ann and Jerry Moss for allowing us to share this experience of a very special equine Zenyatta.
Big Hugs to all and a wet kiss from Sassy
Pati-So tired of college shopping
I’m sure she will pass on as one of the luckiest dogs in the world. She lived up to her full potential as a member of your family, never wanted anything because she had everything, and has a wonderful, loving family that she trusts with all her being that will be with her at the end. In essence, she lived a perfect life. Take solice that when she does pass, she will brag about the world’s best family for a dog; your family. It is hard to let go, but she will tell you when her time has come, and as hard as it will be, our want to keep them here must be overridden by the need to keep them comfortable and pain free. That is our calling, as pet owners, when that time comes. I will keep you in my thoughts going forward, and I wish for you to find peace and tranquility in time.
If you remember them and keep them in your heart, our loved ones never truly die.
Pati-So tired of college shopping

Dear Janet, I’m crying tears for you and your dear Sassy as she transitions to the Rainbow Bridge. Here’s a poem that’s meant for you from her today. Perhaps you’ve seen it when others have shared it on this site, or elsewhere … this one is not my creation, but it is heartfelt and sent with hugz to you.
You’re giving me a special gift,
So sorrowfully endowed,
And through these last few cherished days,
Your courage makes me proud.
But really, love is knowing
When your best friend is in pain,
And understanding earthly acts
Will only be in vain.
So looking deep into your eyes,
Beyond, into your soul,
I see in you the magic, that will
Once more make me whole.
The strength that you possess,
Is why I look to you today,
To do this thing that must be done,
For it’s the only way.
That strength is why I’ve followed you,
And chose you as my friend,
And why I’ve loved you all these years…
My partner ’til the end.
Please, understand just what this gift,
You’re giving, means to me,
It gives me back the strength I’ve lost,
And all my dignity.
You take a stand on my behalf,
For that is what friends do.
And know that what you do is right,
For I believe it too.
So one last time, I breathe your scent,
And through your hand I feel,
The courage that’s within you,
To now grant me this appeal.
Cut the lead that holds me here,
Dear friend, and let me run,
Once more a strong and steady dog,
My pain and struggle done.
And don’t despair my passing,
For I won’t be far away,
Forever here within your heart
And memory I’ll stay.
I’ll be there watching over you,
Your ever faithful friend,
And in your memories I’ll run,
…a young pup once again.

Dear Janet — I like you have been away for awhile and of course your post SO saddened me.
Yes, it is such a difficult decision but one that our beloved four legged children depend on us to make. And they DO let us know when it’s time.
Love to you and your family and to beautiful Sassy who I can tell had the best family she could have EVER dreamed of.
You made her life WONDERFUL! ((((hugs))))

Dear Janet,
Thank you for sharing a bit of Sassy’s history. She sounds so very wonderful. We cherish all of the memories we’ve had with our pet family members and look forward to seeing them again one day. Keeping you in my prayers.
