Happy Friday!
We hope everyone is enjoying the first day of summer. Zenyatta and her two colts certainly are! Alys sent along some photos from her last visit to Zenyatta’s paddock. It’s the perfect way to kick off the weekend!
The Zenyatta Shop also has a small update this week: The “Zenyatta & Colt, April 2, 2013” print is now available in 8″ x 10″ and 11″ x 14″ sizes.
To top it off, here’s a quick video of 13Z being cheeky with his buddy and Alys’ phone…
Enjoy!

A Birthday Poem for Sue Colvin
(June 25, 2013)
You, dear Sue Colvin,
Faced challenges right from the start,
Arriving three months too early
And weighing in
Under two pounds.
But, dearest girlie,
Your spirit did not give in
And you found
The strength and the heart
That battle for life to win.
CP affected your right side,
But ’twas effective therapy
For that CP
When you as a youngster started to ride.
Later you worked as a groom backside
At Philadelphia and Delaware Park
And frontside
Galloping horses on the track,
Learning the jockey’s art,
Which, though hard work, was also a lark
For the horses spoke to your heart.
You worked in the main
With horses who competed
For a four-figure claim,
And should one come home defeated,
Feeling dismay,
You’d look them in the eye
And consolingly say
It’s OK,
For they’d given it their best try.
And you yourself life do live
That very same way—
You your all do give,
Though obstacles get in the way.
As a passenger in a car,
You sadly suffered an accident
And did injuries sustain
Which worsened by far
The CP infirmity
Which still in your body did lurk.
Though you, dear Sue Colvin,
Bravely struggled back to work,
You could not it long maintain,
For the pain did not relent.
Instead there set in
Daunting CP disability
And searing migraine pain
Which with you remain.
But while these maladies
On you closed in,
You did begin
Your soul yet wider to open
To God’s freely given grace,
Which fills you with hope
As you each new day face.
Should you have a day when you feel worse,
A verse
From the Good Book
Helps brighten your outlook,
And we thank you that you care
Words of inspiration
With us to share.
Today we pray, dear Sue Colvin,
That you’ll have a grand celebration,
And may all your horses come in
For the first-place win!
Happy birthday, Sue, and many, many more!

GirlSaratoga
Keta:
Thank you for all the info about Saratoga! I haven’t had a chance to look up any upcoming events due to a few very unsettling and unexpected family events!
2 weeks ago (on Sat the day of the third leg of the triple crown) I was on the couch watching t.v. when the phone rang late at night, knowing it was some type of emergency it was my bother telling me he just got in an accident and could I come get him. Now he lives about 40mins away, but he was down my way one town over having dinner with friends. I jumped in my car, not bothering to get dressed and went and got him and brought him home and insisted we stay up all night because he bumped his head and he refused medical attention! I left his house early afternoon and preceded home for a nap! Here it is now around 8:45pm Sunday nite and my cell phone rings, it is my daughter telling me she just got into a car accident, and her car is smashed, I thought she was joking or teasing me because of her uncle’s accident, and maybe she thought it would be funny if she called and pretended to be in an accident. it was no joke. She was on her way home from work, about 2 miles, if that from the house, when she hit a telephone pole head on, again I jumped in my car, wearing God knows what and went to the scene. Fire, Police, State Police and people from their house everywhere the car smashed the pole bent! How she survived and got of the car, no one knows, a mother’s worst nightmare to get a call like that. She too hit her head and her mouth we think on the steering wheel (not sure, it happened so fast she said) and just like her uncle she too refuses medical treatment, so that night we stayed up all night just to make sure she was alright! So for the past 2 -2 1/2 weeks I have settling the insurance claim, help find her a new car, and whatever one does when their daughter is in a horrific accident.
The car was totaled, the claim has been settled, we found a new car which we hope to pick up on Thursday and all should be back to normal soon!
I have “Thanked” God 100 times a day since both accidents, I could have lost my brother and my daughter in less then 24 hours of each other. After seeing my daughter’s car I know she had a team of angels watching over her, whether the angels had 2 legs or 4 legs it doesn’t matter!
So you see, I don’t have the time or the patience for nasty comments, or rude behavior, because you never know when it all can or will be taken away? I come here to look or gawk at pic’s of the Queen and her beautiful boys, to hear cute stories, to read about Hovis’s antic’s to get twitter photo’s or stories to enjoy the company of people I can only hope to meet some day.
I have always said god blessed me when he gave me my daughter (regardless of her health issues) and now I have been blessed again when he let her stay with me.
With Love and compassion to all

GirlSaratoga. What you say is very true. It can all be over in a flash even in a time of great victory. Poor Thomas Chippendale proved that. I am sorry for all of the stress that you have experienced lately. Hoping that you have much better days ahead. You seem to be a kind woman of courage and spirit who tells it like it is. I admire that. Best to you.
Marshall (NC broad)
Dear GirlSaratoga,
Bless you a thousand times over and more! So very relieved that your brother and your dear daughter are safe and well. These experiences definitely put things in perspective — one never knows when it can all be over.
Please take comfort in knowing that you belong here and are very much treasured.

Oh my goodness, GirlSaratoga, you and your loved ones have been through the wringer. I’m so glad no one was seriously injured and that you’re back with us again. I hope you have fun days coming up during the Saratoga meet–celebrating 150 years of racing.

GS – this is a late reply (was off line all late afternoon and evening yesterday because of thunder storms) but I’m so sorry to hear all that you’ve been through. It does seem like a miracle that everyone was OK. Hope you will be able to catch your breath now and enjoy looking forward to the Saratoga meet. We’ll be looking forward to your reports!

Dear GS,
It’s good to have you back. God has blessed you with great strength to get you through these trying events and thankfully all is well now. We have to count our blessings each day knowing that everything can change in the blink of an eye.
So happy your daughter and brother are all right.

Happy to read that your brother and your daughter came through their horrible car wrecks ok. Yikes! Life definitely is something we need to appreciate and not take things for granted and you’ve illustrated another example. Thanks!

Dear Girlsaratoga,
I pray you are over your horrendous week and peace reigns again. I agree life is too short for this petty bickering and small mindedness. We have lots to share here, our love of Zenny and her boys, and the wonderful support we all give each other during times like yours. You add so much to this site, so ignore the BADDIES and take what the GOOD GUYS have to say, to heart. We care, they don’t. hugs

Keta
GirlSaratoga
Just got on the Blog–what a time you’ve had!
I can’t imagine what you have gone through with two loved ones in accidents-one right after the other. Sometimes it is not just the event, but the “almosts” that you live
through afterwards. Glad that both are safe.
Know how sorry I am. It really does reprioritize the important things in life.
Hugs, Keta
Rosemary McCauley
Girl Saratoga – I cannot imagine experiencing the events you have just experienced! You must be amazingly strong to come this far and to write so eloquently about it. I don’t think I would have it together enough to put one foot in front of the other, let alone put it into words. You, your brother and your daughter all have my best wishes and hopes for a very healthy, quiet and smooth rest of the year.
Rosemary McCauley
Terry Crow- did I see recently a post from you regarding the horse Mr. Ed, former TV star? If so, I have a trivia question for you (or anyone else) regarding Mr. Ed.
What was the name of Mr. Ed’s dam?
carol in arkansas/PUOFB
Hi Rosemary….Mr Ed was played by a palamino horse named Bamboo Harvester….his dam was Arabian…her name was Zetna Hara ….his dad was a saddlebred whose name escapes me at the moment ….interestingly there is a Tb of the same name born in 2009…
Trina Nagele in So Cal
Waiting for official word from Rosemary, but to me it looks like a high hoof is in order for Carol!
Terry Crow
I would have to go along with Carol. I don’t remember the horse playing Mister Ed on TV ever discussing his (Ed’s) family tree. But, if he did, I would bet that you know the answer, Rosemary. The character of Mister ed actually comes from a series of children’s books. Also, a different horse played Mister ed in the pilot, I believe it was a chestnut. As I recall, even Clint Eastwood met Mister Ed once.
Maryp NY
Yes Terry, in that episode when Clint walked over to get on him, Mr Ed laid down! That one was on recently.
Just had to comment.
Terry Crow
What channel is Mr. Ed on?
Fran Doos
So sorry to hear about the accidents. Just glad everyone is okay. The pictures are wonderful. Looks like Z mothers all the foals in her paddock!

Thanks,Max. Mr. Ed had great teeth! So funny and a great way to wake up,ala Mr. Ed.
Terry Crow
Thanks for posting this, Max. Love the lyrics to Empty Feedbag Blues, Ed’s song, especially the part about a big appetite.
Maryp NY
TC,
Remember -” Pretty little filly with the pony tail”? That was his first hit!!
Terry Crow
Maryp and Max-They just don’t make them like Mister Ed anymore. There was a funny comment by Al Michaels during ABC’s coverage of the 1986 Derby, won by the ill-fated Ferdinand, which Max was so kind to post. Noting that Shoemaker was riding and the horse was 17-1, Michaels said that a few years ago you couldn’t get 17-1 on a horse ridden by Shoemaker even if it was Mister Ed. So true.
Max
TC. I also like that reference to 4 horse shoes. Ed is the best. Looking forward to more talking horse jokes. Neigh!
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Thanks Max – I missed most of the 60’s as far as TV was concerned, so I don’t think I ever saw Mr. Ed during his TV stint. Obviously a real hoot – maybe some of the zillion or so networks now available will run it again.
Louise Castello
Sandy, Mr. Ed was great and for anyone interested you can buy the episodes at Amazon on dvd. Just thought I would mention that! Trina, your poem was great as usual.

Trina, Barbara, Judy and Penny;
Thank you for your concern for the situation at the Horse Sanctuary.
Judy, I would never exspect my Zster friends to donate for fencing, and it was a very loving suggestion. I do not really know what this so called committee has in mind for Sir.
Skip over Trouble, Dear Penny, I will have to reread your suggestion as it is late and I am tired and confused about the plastic pipe and all. The PCV pipe holds the wiring?
ha ha see; my brain is dead. I truly thank you for the suggestion Penny and I wish the best for all your young ones. I have to go to your site.
hugs to all, Sally B
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Sally B.:
I know you do not want to ask the Z’sters and Dumplings for help, but if we contributed just $5.00 each, that would add up to a good amount. Haven’t read Penny’s suggestion about PC piping covering the wire fencing yet, but it sounds like it might do the trick. Hope so. Praying for a happy outcome for Sir so that he can stay with you at the rescue. Love and Hugs, JB
Trina Nagele in So Cal
I believe the pvc pipe is meant to be the vertical supports for the horizontal wire–not a covering for the wire. Hugz to all.
Trina Nagele in So Cal
I believe you need a support for the electrified wire which will not conduct the charge into the ground.

This is a great story – thank you so much Judy (off for more Kleenex). Agree with Max – Earl in his little hat was too cute (well, I suppose a manly dog like Earl wouldn’t go for “cute” but what else is there to say?).

dear judy such a wonderful story about earl getting reunited with his marine.Just love happy endings. We had a story about a soldier called liam tasker and the spaniel he worked with called theo. They were inseparable while out in afghanistan .sadly liam and theo got caught up in a gunfight and liam was killed theo just wouldn’t leave his side they had to cut his lead a couple of hours later after returning to camp bastion theo had a seizure and died. They returned to the UK together and their ashes are buried alongside each other on Tayside Their loyalty and devotion are an example to us all Greyfriar’s Bobby epitaph hugs sheena

OTTB Spotlight: Arctic Bright View Stars as Silver
The Blood-Horse 26 Jun 2013
Over past two years, Arctic Bright View, a pure, white son of Panoramic, has experienced an exciting adventure to Tinsel Town and back, and he lives to tell the tale.
Out of the Airdrie Apache mare Arcticanna, Arctic Bright View just emerged from training in Hollywood, Calif., where he was leased by Disney to become one of the horses to portray Silver in “The Lone Ranger.”
Arctic Bright View was discovered and first trained by well-known Hollywood horse trainer Rex Peterson, who has worked on major equine movies such as “Secretariat,” “Black Beauty,” “Hildago,” and “The Horse Whisperer.” The horse was later conditioned by South African native Bobby Lovgren, whose credits include such films as “War Horse,” “The Mask of Zorro,” “Seabiscuit,” and “The Legend of Zorro.”
