Happy Friday!
We hope everyone is enjoying the first day of summer. Zenyatta and her two colts certainly are! Alys sent along some photos from her last visit to Zenyatta’s paddock. It’s the perfect way to kick off the weekend!
The Zenyatta Shop also has a small update this week: The “Zenyatta & Colt, April 2, 2013” print is now available in 8″ x 10″ and 11″ x 14″ sizes.
To top it off, here’s a quick video of 13Z being cheeky with his buddy and Alys’ phone…
Enjoy!

Dear Lanes End,
The video of CoZ is really great, good to see him being cheeky.
Maybe more things to come !!!

Make that 13Z being cheeky, not Cozmic One.

He is absolutely stunning! Cannot think of a better way to end a week than to see pictures of Zenyatta and her feisty colts.

Those floods in Canada, particularly Alberta are pretty much on my doorstep…while my home is far enough and high enough away from the rivers, etc., one of my friend’s mothers lost their family home in Southern Alberta – sad, sad. If anyone else anywhere desires for rain and water, please do a rain dance to encourage it somewhere else :) not flooding of course, but sharing the wealth of rain.
Diana Stuart - Floods In Alberta Canada
TizHerself: I realized that from a previous post that you lived nearby. Stay safe please. And if you find a way to deliver some of that rainwater – Lizardland would love it about now, Colorado too!

Thanks :) I am right in the middle of the province, more central but the rivers, etc. are close by. If you go on to some sites and see photographs of the Calgary’s Saddledome (where they host the Stampede, etc) it is full of water at the moment… crazy. It did warm up to sunny and 19 for the supper hour so perhaps that’s a preview of the weekend. Sending it to Lizardland and Colorado! Not the flooding but the rain. Canmore Alberta and south by the US border was the hardest hit (several hours away from me) but there’s water everywhere. They even played Truck Got Stuck by Corb Lund on the radio on the way home from work – fitting I guess… waiting for them to accept monetary donations for those who are displaced. Am fortunate that nothing like that yet.

Winnipeg is feeling it too – am thinking of those who are in those situations…

Diana posted a link to a set of photographs on the previous blog page that are simply mind boggling in terms of the flooding. Glad you aren’t in the thick of it. Isn’t this unusual for this time of year (as opposed to spring with the snow melt – or maybe this IS the snow melt?).
TIzHerself
nope- the snow was melted and gone by the end of April, early May… we actually had province wide fire bans because it was so dry – there was a devastating fire around a hamlet called Nordeg which is now flooded… go figure. It was so dry for a while there and rain was needed yes, but not in this quantity. Haven’t heard yet how Spruce Meadows, the Equestrian show jumping venue has fared in all this as they are on the South East of Calgary… hopefully they and all the connections are safe, too.
Kayla
I live in southern Alberta in Pincher Creek. I have family in Calgary and High River which are the 2 hardest hit. the streets are all just water. I am not hit currently with my horses but all around me is. The highways are a shut down and nobody can get anywhere. Homes along rivers are being swept away and people are being evacuated from their homes with boats in the streets. The water is over 10 ft in most places. It is crazy scary and people are hand walking their horses through the water and it up to the owners arm pits. If it was me though I wouldn’t even feel the cold and do everything possible to get my horses out. We are going to try to go up and help my family if the highways are open tomorrow. Thanks for the zenny and foal pics!! As always bring a huge smile to my face as always =)
Louise Castello
I hope you and your family and friends and horses all stay safe. The pictures I’ve seen are just devastatingly horrible. Good luck to everyone, you are all in my thoughts and prayers.
TIzHerself
My thoughts are with you Kayla – am just a few hours to the north of you and although the river level has risen, we are not nearly as affected as High Level, etc. Fingers crossed, stay safe.

Trina. Agree. Hoping that this flood situation improves very soon.

Dear TizHerself,
Sky Lantern is quite amazing and is a simply STUNNING filly! What a fantastic race she ran — Jockey Hughes gave her an absolutely perfect ride!
Cheers and all the Best

Would love to see her travel across the big pond and participate in any of the Breeders Cup races (Filly & Mare Turf, Mile, Turf) she is simply special and she is gray (my favorite! :) )

Judy Berube wants everyone to know she appreciates the prayers and good thoughts for Papa Charlie’s well-being. The blood work came back fine except for the liver enzymes and the platelets. The vet thinks he may either have an ulcer or perhaps ingested something harmful. If he’s not ok by Monday, they will send him for a scan. They have given Banamine in the meantime. Hugs to all.
Canadian Dumplings– so sorry to hear the awful news of flooding. Everyone please stay safe.

Barbara! Oh no Judy B’s “Charlie” I have already begun to say a prayer that Charlie’s test ertc. will just be a scare. I am so happy Barbara I saw your post!
Love for Charlie, Judy B and you! I pray for Charlie

Max,
Thanks for the additional clarification (on the previous blog post) about some of the terms in the latest chapter of “As the Paddock Turns” by Hovis :-) I DID figure out what he probably meant by “stressage,” but not the jockey reference nor the fact that he sees jumping as more manly. The background info helps immensely.
Max
Sandy. Sheena and other British Z fans probably understand Hovis better than we do. I miss out on some of the names that he mentions as well as the current events. Have to google a fair bit to get some things. Sheena can translate.
Remembering
Most of the terms Hovis uses are terms one is familar with when they ride
and have a horse. Those who have that experience don’t need to use
GOOGLE to figure it out. The humor is british.
Like: stressage is dressage.
Max
As Mr. Ed would say to that kind of comment: Yeah, right, Sign.
Gratuitously and consistently putting down Sandy, Keta, Trina, me and others on this blog, who are just trying to enjoy Z, horses and friendship with each other says a lot. Z would always be kind to everyone and patient whether they were experts or not. So too would most true experts who really understand horses.
Brenda S. Fort Erie, Canada
I phoned my friend who lives in SW Calgary at an early hour this morning. She is fine, dry and safe, but her mother is about 2 blocks away from homes that are flooded so we are keeping hooves crossed. It seems to me that we’ve had very peculiar weather this spring so now that summer is officially here we must hope that Mother Nature will get her act together.
TIzHerself
Keeping fingers crossed and thoughts with your friend. It is supposed to be sunny here on the weekend but more thundershowers in the coming week – hopefully it holds off and gives a chance at settling down.

Zenyatta, Team Z and the Moss’s, I am tickled with these new pictures but then learned of my friends, Judy B.’s Charlie having some problems.
I love you all so much and Z, no one can come close to my heart!! I pray for Charlie though. Charlie needs our prayers. loven hugs Sally B

Team Z, thank you for the wonderful photo’s. You really do go above and beyond in keeping us in the Z loop. Very much appreciated.

Trina, I loved this up lifting poem for Arlene. Happy Birthday Arlene!!!
In your poem you stated in so many words whether any one has experienced such a run as Arlene did that day. Well, it probably does not match what she did, but what remains in my memory forever, is going to my BFF’s to ride. No one told me that Kim, who I was on, should not get to the back end of Chance. And so when we all stopped I did not have a problem with Kim getting close. Before I could actually see what I was seeing, Chance thrusted his hind legs up toward Kim, missed mine and scared Kim, and off Kim ran and I could not get him to slow, to stop…..if I tried harder I thought he would tip over, so I just tried to remember the lessons I had learned a few years earlier. Oh my gosh…., what were they! I hung on and rode the fastest ride I have been on and stayed on until Kim slowed. It was a thrill.
Loved your poem
hugs, Sally B
Barbara Wood (Texas)
Yikes, Sally. So thankful you lived to tell the story! Hugs.

Hi Sally, Thank you for your note. You sure had a thrilling ride! And close call. Scary!

I just enjoy seeing those dapples on Zenny. She’s the picture of health and 13Z is looking great, too. We never tire seeing pictures of the Queen and 13Z. How is Coz doing?
Alene
Thanks for the gorgeous photos. Zenny always looks spectaculiar!!! 13Z is a stunner!! He`s a card. What a face. I want to see “COZ” next time around. He`s such a handsome young man. Thanx again as always. Love to all!! Love you Zenny!!!! Big hugs and kisses …Alene

Wow Alys, you outdid yourself with these pictures! Zenny looks very content with her boys and they are really growing. I can’t get over how much they have grown. Thank you for these pictures!
zfansandy
I appreciate the Z pic/vid update. Thank you.
Barb Zylbert
Handsome boy Z13! Interesting how he has a different build from last year’s colt whose frame was more like Zenyatta’s. Sire’s contribution there no doubt.
Ann Mitchell Adam
I too noticed the differences in conformations. Wouldn’t be surprised if 13Z would see the track at an earlier age than Coz will.
Stephanie in San Diego
Thank you for the stunning pictures. Zenny relaxed and enjoying summer while little 13 is growing like a weed and playing with his best buddy.
debbie sutherland
Great photos of Zenyatta and 13Z! Looked back and enjoyed some photos of Coz last year, would like to see more of him in the next update. The video wtih the ball was precious,he is such a character-would love to see him in the field again with his favourite chestnut pal. Thanks for all the photos,Zenny can be proud of her boys.

Beautiful pics. Thank you so much!! Love you so much Zenny, Baby Z & Coz. <3 <3 <3
Ann Mitchell Adam
Thank you so much for the great pictures and the video.
13Z is certainly a neat compact package. So tidy! He is beautiful but so is Coz! I wouldn’t surprised if 13Z reached the track at an earlier age than Coz. It looks like he’ll finish filling out sooner, i.e.: Looks like he’ll mature earlier.
Nancy
Z13 looks very strong-boned. It appears as though he’s gonna have Z’s build. Quite a handsome fellow.
Kathy
Thank you Alys, Team Z and Lane’s End! Happy summer, everyone!
Roberta
I was looking at an ad about Tapit; 13Z’s built looks a lot like his sire. What a beautiful animal Tapit is, and so successful at stud! With Zenyatta as his mom, and Tapit as his dad, and his looks and attitude, I don’t see how he could miss, but be a dominant force at a younger age. I can’t wait for them both to be out there, for us to watch, like we did their mom.
Thank-you so much for the pictures and videos; in this world, with so many bad things happening, Zenyatta, and now her boys, bring us so much joy!
This site is full of Zenyatta love, really a family, that all can come for comfort and love. What a fitting legacy for Zenyatta, the Mosses, her Team, and now Lane’s End to give us in her name!!!! God bless all, always in my prayers!!!!
Bobbie --- Elkhorn WI
Love your comments, Roberta. I was looking at a conformation shot of Trappe Shot (a chestnut Tapit son) on Claiborne’s website yesterday. Might give us an idea of how Z13 will look as he matures. Lots of muscle and butt!
Have a great day,
Bobbie (Roberta also)

hi all why is zenny wearing a cover over her eyes.
Pati-Pondering College Life
It keeps the flies and other unwanted pests put of her eyes. They are called “fly masks” and they do just that; mask the eyes from flies.
LauraJ (Cincinnati, OH)
To add–it’s made of mesh and she can see out of it just fine.
sheena.davies(wales)
RIP Thomas Chippendale who collapsed and died after winning the hardwicke at royal ascot for lady cecil often wonder if we ask too much of these horses in the name of sport so sad hugs sheena
Max
Sheena. Very sad news. He was a good racer. Will be hard on Warren Place as they mourn Henry Cecil. Sir Henry put a lot of effort into this colt and his other horses. I guess that this young colt will be joining Sir Henry in the great beyond. RIP Henry Cecil and Thomas Chippendale.

Wow! So sad, for all reasons.

Thanks for the link Vicki and condolences to all. I could not believe my ears when I heard the TVG guys say what had happened. Thomas Chippendale was beautiful and looked so good winning the race.
