Happy Friday!
We hope everyone is enjoying the first day of summer. Zenyatta and her two colts certainly are! Alys sent along some photos from her last visit to Zenyatta’s paddock. It’s the perfect way to kick off the weekend!
The Zenyatta Shop also has a small update this week: The “Zenyatta & Colt, April 2, 2013” print is now available in 8″ x 10″ and 11″ x 14″ sizes.
To top it off, here’s a quick video of 13Z being cheeky with his buddy and Alys’ phone…
Enjoy!

Such a coincidence this morning when I was surfing the guide on the tv, at 10am on Sonyhd there was the 1984 movie, “SHEENA”!!!
Just had to mention it. Such a surprise.

Right outa the gate, I am so behind, let me be the last to congratulate our Queen on her War Front pregnancy! Be safe and healthy, the both of you! Crossed hooves.
Next, very belated thanks to you North Carolinians for your wonderful suggestions for my trip there the end of last month. My friends catered to my wishes (i.e., your suggestions), so therefore we did visit the Biltmore Estates–quite the spread, huge gorgeous and very enjoyable. We even had lunch that day at the Stable Restaurant and I purchased at Tee that reads Biltmore Estates, Equestrian Center. I’ve worn it to Hollywood Park and received compliments. We also went to Brevard, a week late for the White Squirrel Festival, but I did enjoy traipsing along the main drag and wandering through the White Squirrel Shoppe. (Alas, we did not see one real white squirrel, although we were told we might.) We had lunch there at Mayberry’s–the weather was so nice we sat outside and people/dog watched while we chatted. In fact there was only one rainy day during my stay and at that time we were at home watching movies and cat – petting–they have a very spoiled feline (is there any other kind?) named The Princess. You get the idea. We also went on the Blue Ridge Prkwy, but that was kind of a bust due to low visibility–a chance one takes. Had a nice lunch, though at Knife and Fork Restaurant.
Enough of my travelogue, but thanks again….don’t know if we would have made those trips without your suggestions, Marshall (NC Broad) Ann NC, and Pati. (We passed Mast Gen. Store, but I had been there when I visited several years ago, so just waved as we drove by.)
Okay, now to review All Kinds of Stuff: Know of Pati’s and Arlene in Vermont'[s b.days, thanks to our Trina, so belated happy birthdays to you both! If there have been more, I will find out as I review. Lots of things going on, such as Chantal/Del Mar and the same with P Val? Hmmm…
And I MUST thank LE and Alys for the photos and adorable video! Let me add to the chorus of thank yous for keeping us so in touch with Zenyatta and her life. :-).

Belated very happy birthday to Sue Colvin, and thanks once again to Trina for keeping us in the on-going birthday loop! :-) Keta, I so much enjoyed that Keeneland News column on our Queen and her colts—very entertaining; sure made me smile!
Judy Berube, this is a rather late comment on Charlie (I still have a couple of more pages to read), but sure hope he is better. And Girl/Saratoga, my jaw dropped reading of your account of the accidents of your brother AND daughter. So happy they–and you–are okay.
DianaS, I would say P Val, WOW?? Wishing him the best….
Okay have to get cooler now, somehow…our heat wave here expected to go into next week. Will read more later. Happy Saturday to everyone and especially to those who have had extreme situations of late.

Wondered what you all thought of the name “War DanZe” (War Dance) for 13Z, since Zenny is such a dancer.
Hope to catch up on all of the posts. Just able to catch a few minutes this morning.

Also, the photos of 13Z and Mom are so beautiful on this post and the previous ones.

Thanks Keta. I saw she was scratched and wondered why. Hope that is the true reason and she is not sick or injured. As always, thank you for keeping us posted on things.
Sorry it is so hot in Phoenix. Here in Indy it is very pleasant with temps not forecast for much over 80 for the next several days.
My daughter lived in Chandler for awhile and has kept her house there. Has plans to go back someday. She loved it but it was just too hot for a LOL like me.

Sheena. Moosie has the best of connections. I hope that Moosie does well. He’s got the talent, but you can see from his photo that he’s his own horse. His people love him, and his tweets are drawing in more and more fans. I also see that Juddemonte may have a new star in Kingman, trained by John Gosden. He won well today at Newmarket.

Sharon in Seattle,
Don’t find G Ten at any Louisiana TB retirement rescues,
do you know where he was taken to???
Or his owner selling him outright???
Trina Nagele in So Cal
In case any reader is wondering, these “Diana S” posts are NOT from our Diana S (Diastu in Tempe, AZ). In answer to the question posed, yes, G Ten is for sale now. There is at least one interested buyer in addition to Z-sters ( including Diastu) who are watching out for his welfare.
Trina Nagele in So Cal
To posters who are wondering why “DianaS” brought up Louisiana in reference to the racehorse G Ten, who has been racing at Emerald Downs in Washington State, I believe “DianaS” (aka Sign—hi, Sign!) has confused Emerald Downs with Evangeline Downs (in Louisiana).
DianaS
Trina,
You are very sickly possessed about this Sign person, according to
your post you have ridded her from this blog, but continue to harass
others and accuse them of being her.
Many of us have personal e-mails you have sent that outline your
plans to RID THIS SITE OF THOSE YOU DO NOT LIKE AND THOSE WHO ARE NOT INTERESTED IN DOING YOUR BIDDING. We are more than
happy to post them.
Get a life and move on – there is a New Mexico slaughter issue for
you to focus on SO GET TO IT AND SNAPPY !!!
DianaS
And Trina you need to put your bifocal on and quite the behind the
scene e-mails/plotting/plans and read:
the name is DianaS not DianeS
Get a grip and move on, perhaps some of those courses
Chantal Sutherland took would be good for you to attend
to they are available near your home !!!
Trina Nagele in So Cal
Good night, DianaS aka Sign. I hope you’ll be in a better frame of mind tomorrow.
Trina Nagele in So Cal
I thought I would turn in for the night without further response to “DianaS” aka Sign. I find however that I wish to say more. In the past, whenever Sign has slighted others on this site, I have tried to speak up for civility. I did indeed once contact the Blog administrator at forum@zenyatta.com with regard to Sign, and I believe others have felt moved to do the same. There are however no “behind the scenes” e-mails from me trying to get anyone else removed from this site. To the contrary, I have been encouraging people to post on the Blog, for I want to see it continue as a happy place for Z-sters to gather and share with each other in a loving community. I find it regrettable that Sign has returned with the moniker “DianaS” apparently in an attempt to pass as the long-time and well-respected poster Diana Stuart (diastu in Tempe), whom I am proud to be able to call my friend.
Louise Castello
Trina, You never have to explain yourself to us about allegations made by Sign. We know the truth. You are loved and respected here as always and one of the people who make this site the best there is. Nothing she says matters anymore.

Sassy has been taken off all meds except for pain. I am taking a week off work to spend time with her. The date has been set for next Saturday, unless she should have issues, which the vets said would be day by day. I have updated the vet who does the home euthanization and she is gracious enough to be available if I need her before next Saturday.
I am giving this time to my 7 year old granddaughter and 5 year old grandson to say their good-byes. Janessa will have it the hardest since Sassy took to her from the moment she began to crawl. I have a memories of Sassy licking her toes and making her giggle. never had the camcorder ready for that, but it is forever in my head. Janessa is drawing a picture of them together and Sassy is to take it with her.

A Birthday Poem for Katherine Wheeler
(June 29, 2013, revised)
Today’s the day
We celebrate
Our dear Counselor Kate,
Who’s truly in countless ways
First rate!
Let me here first relate
How she does advocate
For animals–big or small—
But most of all,
For the noble horse
And also of course
For his country cousin, the burro.
Kate is most competent and thorough
In every letter and phone call
Of advocacy.
In them we see
How she
Does fashion,
With burning passion
And cool intellect,
A message erudite
And direct.
She wields her words
To great effect
To protect
America’s wild herds
And the cultivated Thoroughbred
Alike
As they face the plight
Of losing their life
To vicious slashes of a knife
Should they to slaughter be sent.
Katherine, a co-founder of our Equi-Army,
Has us forward led
In the fight
To bring such travesties to light
And in us does ignite
A diligence to set things right–
In this cause she never will relent.
Nor did she last year fail
To be hot on the trail
Of two Thoroughbreds,
Cactus Café and Canuki,
Who, down on their luck,
In secret from the racetrack
Did disappear
And did not come back–
We all the worst did fear.
The trainer, facing exclusion at Mountaineer,
Weeks later due to pressure
The two, slaughter-bound
In a deal most shady,
Suddenly “found”
And took the self-protective measure
Of bringing them from Canada back–
All could see
That pitifully
They did condition lack,
But Canuki and Cactus Café
Were blessedly saved that day!
Then too, as Kate did say,
Along the way
She found a Thoroughbred filly,
Aged just three,
Who was in desperate straits
At the New Holland sale,
A place foretelling woe and travail,
A hundred-some miles west of Philly.
This fine young equine lady
Has Mr. Prospector in her pedigree,
Secretariat and Northern Dancer you’ll also there see.
Now fortunately
She’s been saved by Kate
From an unspeakable fate.
Blues House she is named—
With that moniker it seems
As if ’twas preordained
That she should be
In the vicinity
Of New Orleans!
And now Bluesy
Has indeed found blessed refuge
In Baton Rouge,
There to stay
As Kate’s beloved adoptee–
We do the two congratulate!
Dearest Kate,
I would love to further elaborate
Your many sterling qualities,
But when I begin them all to contemplate,
I know they’re far too many to enumerate,
So please
Let it suffice this to state:
You are our Katherine the Great!
Happy birthday, Kate, and many, many more!
Max
Trina. Very impressive in style and content. Kate is indeed Katherine the Great for what she does and is. Advocating for horses and all animals is a noble calling. Best wishes to Katherine on her birthday and great success in all things in which she is involved both personal and professional.
