Hello, Z-sters! Here are reposts of the birthday poems from 2012 for Cozmic One and for his Dumpling fan, S from San Diego (Stephanie). Happy birthday to them both!
A Birth Day Poem for Zenyatta’s First Born
(The evening of March 8, 2012)
Great tidings
To make hearts sing
This evening
Does bring!
We’ve just been told
Our Queen has foaled
Her first offspring–
Now we welcome the potential king!
Throughout the Queen’s realm
Joy does all overwhelm!
Jubilation
And exultation
Reign o’er the land.
The attendants
In the Queen’s presence
This evening waited
With breath bated
As you, little one, arrived,
And all joined in celebration
When you strived
On legs as yet untried
To stand
(Oh, wasn’t that grand!)
And then unaided
Started to nurse,
Continuing till sated.
Poetic souls turn to verse
This date
On which you, little one,
Have at long last come
Suitably to commemorate.
The slender cord
Through which Zenyatta you
Rich nourishment did afford
Has now been broken–
Nonetheless you forever to her
Will lovingly be attached:
Whenever YOUR name is spoken,
People will with reverence
Recall ZENYATTA’s great feats
And how she their hearts stirred,
And they YOU
Will treat
With the deference
Due
Her flesh and blood.
Wherever YOUR name
By us is heard,
Happy emotion through us will flood.
Your dear mother’s illustrious fame
From her twenty starts
And glorious victories, unmatched,
Insures YOU will in our hearts
Forever be latched!
Little 12Z, you’ve surely won the lottery,
For your mother
Is like none other:
Mere words fail her adequately to praise.
First,
She’s the epitome
Of racing royalty.
For her our hearts burst
With undying loyalty.
And then she’s sweet as sweet can be
In so many charming ways.
She you will smother
With loving attention
And give you constant protection.
In coming days
You’ll in pastures green
There at Lane’s End cavort
Where your mother, the Queen,
Holds court.
Soon
You’ll on fresh grass graze
Under your mother’s watchful gaze.
Of your father’s side
You’re also justified
To take great pride,
For the handsome Bernardini
Bestows on you
A star-strewn
Pedigree
Including the great Seattle Slew
And Secretariat, too–
He’s your great-granddad!
So, little lad,
You see
You may a great racer be
With endurance
Coupled to blazing speed,
You may perchance
To Zenyatta’s crown accede.
But no matter what you do
Or don’t do,
You are born of highest royalty
And will command our love and loyalty
Your whole life through
Even should you no race ever run.
So welcome to the world, young one!
And to your beloved mother, we say
Well done, dear Queen, well done!
A Birthday Poem for Stephanie in San Diego
(March 8, 2012)
Almost from birth
Our Stephanie
Horses did see
As God’s gift on earth.
Through all her years of school,
The Quarter Horse for her did rule!
She rode
And showed
All over this land
And found it all grand.
When she
In college
More knowledge
Sought,
She two horses
Along with her brought
And spent more time with the horses
Than on her courses
Some would allege.
Her whole world
Around horses twirled,
And she thought
’Twould ever thus be.
But marriage and a lovely family
Changed
That projected history.
Her focus on the equine
Was for a time
Forsaken.
Now her dear daughter Ashley
Is out of the nest
And in a short while
Will have taken
A walk down the aisle,
And Steph does find
That her mind
Has in part turned
To what she once loved best,
And Z
Especially
Has earned
Her interest.
Through Z,
Stephanie
Has learned
To treasure
The Thoroughbred,
And Steph now takes pleasure
In planning a return
To the state of Kentucky
Where she had been so lucky
As to live when very young.
She thinks it would be fun
In retirement to continue
Her current passion in horse rescue.
To those ends,
She dreams of a little Bluegrass farm
To be dubbed “A Few New Friends”
Where she’ll take in horses at risk
And save them from harm.
For her it would be bliss!

March 8 Cherokee Devotional
Nature has her indecisive moments. A ma ga nu go gv, the season when new life springs up, may come early with its wildflowers and blossoming trees. She is known for her adolescent behavior, all smiles and flowers in her hair, only to be in tears in a few minutes. We think, this is it, we will never change our opinion. No, we will not be moved, we will cling to this one idea and time cannot erode any part of it. There can be no parting with this idea, nothing and no one can make us think differently. Spring may hint that she is here-so we can relax. But she is never adamant that she will not change. It is only the human being that claims such powers. But the power that keeps us moving and changing and becoming better is not our power but Galun lati.
We will never let our hold to this land go for we say to you that our father who sits in haven gave it to us.

Dear Kathy. Spring has certainly arrived in the southern half of the UK,ground is drying for the festival!Glorious day in Wales.Have’nt heard anymore about Daniel,no details of the funeral yet.Hope Audrey is still recovering well.
Marty looked so cute with his chair for his internashunal bizness!!he’ll be busy with his tee-shirts.Ray’s family pic so beautiful and the Zoeisms are brilliant.I think Fubu is off to Petsmart today he loves going there I wish he’d eat more though!have a great weekendHugs to You,Kisses for Puppy Pack.Sheena

Sheena. Typically the English pundits or some of them are criticizing the Irish raiders and The Fly as long in the tooth and too old to win. Those teeth still have a lot of bite. The Fly is as aggressive as ever, a trait he shares with Ruby. Don’t count them out. Annie Power seems poised to kick English butt too.
The Moose is heading out on the town to celebrate with Hunt Ball whose birthday is next week. He’s back from the US. Free the Moose! Neigh!
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
I’m so glad you have Spring now! Enjoy the rays! Keeping little Daniel’s loved ones in my thoughts and prayers. Have e-mailed Audrey to see how she is doing and to check if they need food brought in. Will let you know when I have heard from her. I thought Marty’s chair was the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. That is one LUCKY rat! Ray couldn’t take a bad picture if he tried. He is charming, adorable and such a handsome boy. Zoe is a Therapy Dog in so many ways. She is therapy for all of us, too! Prayers for Fubu’s continued healing. At least he is well enough for a visit to Petsmart. Just to let you know, we’re taking off for the week just to relax and recharge. Going to the desert with the furbabies. I’ll post the week’s worth of Devotionals tomorrow. We will come home again on Saturday. Have a wonderful weekend. Hugs to you from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy

Just saw on Bloodhorse.com that Top Billing is out of the Derby picture with a fractured canon bone. Going to Kentucky to have surgery tomorrow or Monday. So sorry as I really liked him. Glad I picked 6 or 7 I liked since they are falling off the Derby path pretty rapidly.

Dear Shirlee:
Wishing Top Billing successful surgery and full recovery. Hope we don’t have a repeat of last year with injuries. Love and Hugs, JB
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Me too Judy! I just couldn’t believe my ears when I heard this earlier today – like “Oh no! It’s starting again.” He certainly seemed very promising, and it’s too bad that this happened although the talking heads said that he would probably be fine – just not in time for the Derby.

To Sheena,
An update on Audrey. I just called her and she’s in Costco. So she’s feeling well enough to be out and about. Said she no longer needs for food to be brought in. Sounds like she’s doing very well. Please continue to pray. Many thanks and hugs, Kathy

Sorry to intrude on your conversation with Sheena, but I’m happy for this woman. This is good news to hear. Tell her that she has lots of people routing for her recovery. Power up Audrey.
