Happy Tuesday!
Zenyatta’s youngest boy was weaned last week, and it all went very well. Alys sent us some photos before and after, and as you can see the boys are quite large and independent at this time. Z is happy to be back with her old friend Life Is Sweet and they definitely seem to share a bond. We’ll have more photos to share with you soon.

Glad all went well. I am so happy to see Zenny and her BFF, LIS back together. Zapit sure has grown and is just stunning!
Now, an update on Coz. I wonder if he’s made the trip to Florida yet?

Dear Team Z and Lane’s End:
Our Red Prince is growing up. What a stunning looking boy he is.
Thank you for letting us be a part of all the events and changes in Z’s live and in the lives of her babies. Looking forward to updates on COZ, Red Prince and the new Baby Z.
Thank you again. Hugs, JB

Oops. That should be Z’s life. Sorry. Hugs, JB

Wow! Z13 has a powerful looking hind quarters… the engine that will drive the machine?
andrea
Heart and lungs are a big part of the engine, oxygenating those muscles.
Darlene
So happy all is well with Z and her foals and she is back with Life is Sweet what ever happened to Tasty and her foal?
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Darlene:
Someone posted a while ago that TT’s foal by Unbridled’s Song born 4/10/13, sadly, passed away. Don’t know the details. Don’t know if she is in foal this year.
Her colt by Candy Ride, born 3/27/12, is the same age as COZ and will probably be in training soon too. Love and Hugs, JB
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
I believe that the Lane’s End folks told Brenda that Tasty IS “in foal” but we don’t know the dad.
Amanda
Tasty was sent to Union Rags for a 2014 foal.
Cynthia Hahn
He is so beautiful and I am so jealous!! I would love to know how you guys did it! I had a mare that I bred 3 times trying to get a colt and ended up with fillies every dang time!! I would have done anything to have had a colt. How does one get two in a row??
Fontella
Cynthia,
The stallion determines the sex of the foal. My mares all have had high % colts. I have gotten very few fillies over the last 45 years of breeding.
Paula Higgins
Thank you so much for the pictures! Mom and Z13 seem to be taking it in stride. Glad Mom is back with Life Is Sweet. They are definitely buddies.
Leslie R.
Thank you for the lovely pics! I’m glad the weaning went well for both 13Z and Zenyatta. 13Z is stunning! I’m so happy that Zenyatta is back with her old friend Life is Sweet. I’m sure that was a wonderful reunion for both of them.
Hugs to all,
Leslie

Thanks to Alys for the pics and the information on what is happening with Zenyatta and Little Red. Glad weaning is over. I have heard that it is a bit traumatic on the first day or so. He is such a big strong looking guy and still has that sweet short fuzzy tail. In fact, in one photo you can see some blond streaks.
So happy Zenny is doing well and back with her BFF.
Fontella
Z13 certainly is a well built colt! WOW! Real nice bone size, hip and large heart girth. Who is Zenyatta in foal to for 2014? If it was posted I missed it. Any chance of her going overseas to visit Galaleo or Frankel in the future?

N foal to War Front – Does anyone think that we might have another BIG RED born 40 yrs later ????? That would be such a great legacy to the Queen of racing …
Janette
Brenda, Every time I look at him I think of BIG RED. If any mare was going to produce another as amazing as BIG RED, it would be Zenyatta – just her style :) He truly is amazing!
Judy in South Carolina
Brenda…………..funny I thought the same thing once he started growing and everyone could tell he was definitely going to stay chestnut. I mean just look at his build and those powerful hind quarters……….
NO disrespect to the One And Only Secretariat but wouldn’t it be G-R-E-A-T??????
Jo Anne Yuhnke
13Z is gorgeous!! Well on his way to growing up. And Queen Z looks amazing, too. Thanks for posting….I figured he was close to weaning.
Rita
13Z is only 5 months. I thought they did not take the babies away until 6 months? I will miss seeing him as much. Love this beautiful boy and his Mom.

Good evening sweet Zenny, Redhead, Coz & my Zen family:
I knew weaning time was upon us — it kind of dawned on me last week that The Redhead was 5 months old on Sept.1. But, like several, knowing he’s gone from Zenny’s life makes me a little sad, even though I’m sure he was more than ready to strike out on his own. And Zenny is so smart: she probably knows the routine after going through it with Coz. LE are experts at doing the best for mares and their weanlings.
It softens the blow to know that Zenny and Life Is Sweet are sharing the same paddock! That must be terrific for both of them, as they were “girlfriends” during their racing years.
Thank you, ALYS, for another set of beautiful photos. You help me feel as though I’m really still in Zenny’s life! Thank you so much!
Love & hugs to all and peppermint kisses for my Big Girl.
Dmamaklock
Big boy just fine on his own….. he had mama Z LOVE. Beautiful. The Queen looks great. THANK you so much for the posts. We love them

Absolutely splendid photos of Zenyatta, 13 Zenyatta, and the other mares and foals. Love these updates and thank you so much for sharing them. It gives me great joy to think about what is in store for all. #Excited
Lori
WOW how time flies. Z13 is so gorgeous, wonder where he gets that from??? I know the foals forget mom pretty quickly, but wiening always makes me a little sad. And of course Big Z is completely unforgettable!! Would love to see a War Front filly

It appears as if all is well at LE with Zenny and her 13Z. It will be very exciting to follow both Coz and 13Z as they continue to train for their next life on the track. Coz seems to be thriving and I’d expect nothing less from his lil bro.
Haylie
13Z is getting quite the big boy! He is already starting to get the build of his sire. Tapit is a stocky stallion. Maybe he will run the same way as Tapit…
Nancy
I’ve still got tears welling up in my eyes. Of course, I knew weaning time was coming and I only wish the best for the foals and the mommas. More excitement to come! Thanks for the pics. They were superb!
Roberta
What a beautiful colt 13Z is!!! He has always had such presence, and so powerful with perfect confirmation. Better think of a perfect name for Zenny’s perfect son, because he is going to make a name for himself!!!
Coz with his ball, cracks me up; he looks so much like mama!!
Zenyatta has put her mark and personality on these boys; she is going down in history as not only a great race horse, but a great broodmare!!
I’m so happy Zenyatta and Life is Sweet are back together, what a wonderful thing you have done for them both; I wish there were more owners like the Mosses.

Never get tired of this video, unlike Life Is Sweet herself who was a very sleepy horse. She enjoys her rest.

Dear Sheena, Max, Peggy, Marshall and Z Fans:
Feel slightly better about Hudson Township leaving the farm. At the request of those of us who helped originally rescue HT, Angela is going to include a First Right of Refusal in the sales contract to take HT back if things don’t work out in Connecticut.
Thank you all for your concern for her and for me. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
JudyB. Glad to hear this. I hope that HT gets very good care where she is going.

Dear Judy
So hope everything works out good.

Thank you once again for sharing this news and updated photos of our beautiful Queen and her son. I had thought that weaning time might be coming up soon so it doesn’t come as a complete surprise. How wonderful that Life Is Sweet has been chosen to be a new pasture mate for Zenyatta! That makes me think that perhaps they are both due to foal next year close to the same time – can’t wait to see the new babies, but of course we still have lots to learn about the new arrangements and schedules for 13Z, beautiful red, and of course to follow Cozmic One as his career progresses. We are so blessed that you are all so generous in sharing Zenyatta with us – it just amazes me and I am grateful to all – the Mosses, Lane’s End and everyone in between who takes care and monitors our horses and provides us the information. Thank you.
Judy in South Carolina
Thanks for these wonderful photos and updates! It really DOES help all of us feel still a part of our beautiful Queen’s everyday life.
I am in awe every time I see a new photo of Z13. He is just s-t-u-n-n-i-n-g! And, as Sue said, those hindquarters! Power personified!
And I, too, would love to know if Coz has left for Florida yet. Keeping up with him, plus watching Z13 grow AND getting ready to PACE PACE PACE in 2014 is just toooooo exciting!
Thank you again, Lane’s End and everyone involved for allowing us such “up close and personal” continued access!
