Happy Tuesday!
Zenyatta’s youngest boy was weaned last week, and it all went very well. Alys sent us some photos before and after, and as you can see the boys are quite large and independent at this time. Z is happy to be back with her old friend Life Is Sweet and they definitely seem to share a bond. We’ll have more photos to share with you soon.

Will they name him, “STING?”

Good name! High hoof, Otherlyn!
Wendy
Glad all went well! I’m sure Z13 and his buddies will continue to enjoy romping around like crazy and having fun, while their moms will enjoy kicking back and relaxing together. Thanks for the great pics!

Great update. Thx to all involved. I don’t know anything about weaning. How does it not go well? Just wondering.
jerry
improper weaning (too early, too abrupt) causes a lot of stress and fuss – screaming, running, aggression. it’s a great way to get mom and/or baby injured when they try to get to each other.
in a good weaning mom and weanling never act stressed. the separation seems natural.

They need to separate the mother from the foal at a particular time. I remember with my own horses ages ago, we separated them at 6 or 9 months, I don’t quite remember. But you have to separate them so that they can go on with their lives independent of their mothers… Hope this helps.

Your laugh for the day: We separated two mares from their fillies by putting a hot wire down the middle of their paddock. The bigger mare just sidled over to the wire and let her youngster nurse from a yoga position that I’d never seen before!
The well fed filly was the bigger and stronger of the two and had a wonderful temperament.

Wow, that is the cruelest thing I have ever read! Think about what danger you placed those animals in. You should not have any animals in your care.
Kim
Weaning is very trying for Mare and offspring Lots of Crying for each other.
Amber
Pretty mare…sad shes just a breeding machine now
andrea
She’s not a machine. She is a normal, happy horse. Note the dappling; a sign of good health, even emotional contentment.

zfansandy…ask my friends whose 7 year old daughter still sleeps in their bed (LOL)

He looks just fine. I love how he loves the camera like mom. Gorgeous confirmation, eye and how he tells you he is special. This one is going to be great.

Alys, I have to say you take great photos! Thank you so much (can’t wait for more) and thanks go out to TeamZ always.
Time does go by so fast for these babies to venture on to the next phase of their lives. Red prince looks so fine and I’m so happy for Zenyatta to be with Life is Sweet.
Life is good.

Thank you so much for the pics team Lanes End and Alys. They are stunning. Glad to hear the weaning went well. The third pic of Z13, really does look like Secretariat. as a foal. Amazing he is a powerhouse!
Ruth Eberhard
He looks like Secretariat with those three white socks and his gorgeous conformation. Hope he turns out as well. We’ll all be watching this beautiful guy.

This is a beautiful colt … very nice, indeed. How is 12 Z coming along – how is schooling going with him?
Chris
It is good to be a broodmare in Kentucky. Those are some healthy babies.
mary oday
yeah!! im sure he is missing momma. all went well, glad. he is going to be a ‘special’ one. cant wait to see him in action
Mary
They both look happy. 13Z loves the camera like mom. It will be fun to see how her colts do in the future. I hope they do well like mom. Z deserves so much happiness because of all the happiness and fun Z has given to her fans. It is like she is almost human at times…think she loves her fans as much as we have loved her. Thanks to all for all the updates!!!
diaana abel
thanks for the pixs! <3

I just researched weaning, I get it now.

Many thanks to Lane’s End for the wonderful photos and information.
And a big thank you to Lane’s End as well for placing Zenny and her best friend, Life Is Sweet, in the same paddock together. I hope that they will be able to always stay together.
It will be easier for both friends to cope with their foals away now that they have each other once again.
mw
These are beautiful! Zenyatta, Red and all of their friends are beautiful. He does look like Secretariat, and has three stockings (The fore being on the wrong leg/the only difference).
Roxanne Cook
Thank you so much (again) for these wonderful photos. What a caboose on that boy!

Thanks for the update and the wonderful photos by Alys. Glad to hear that Zenny is back with Life Is Sweet, the only better news for me would be to hear that Tasty is with them. Tasty was always so protective of Zenny and they seemed to be great friends.
Max
Agree with you, Brenda. Love Tasty and would like to hear more of her. She is a wonderful friend to Zenyatta. She had not been introduced to John Shirreffs before his visit, and so chased him away from Z in the paddock. Tasty took her protective role very seriously.

It’s always a sad but exciting time when the foals are weaned. 13Z is getting so big, he is one gorgeous horse! And I am SO happy that Zenny and Life Is Sweet are back together! They must be so happy, they were always good friends. Great to hear everything went well with the weaning. Thanks for the update, can’t wait for more pics! :)
Janey Boyd
Glad all is well. Thank you for great pics! Z and her paddock mates are filling out well with coming babes! Praying all goes well and no hiccups!
lilbunnyfoofoo
Zenny is the gift that just keeps giving! Her foals are as spectacular as she is! Won’t it be exciting to watch their careers take off! There’s nothing she can’t do! Long live the Queen.
Bluegrass Girl
Great update & information. Thanks Team Z & Lane’s End.
He’s a big boy and it was getting near time-so we were wondering.
Zenyatta looks great. 13Z looks happy.
Alys, outstanding photos that tell the story.
Kathy R.
Second that comment.

I am so happy the weaning went well…we only want the best for our Queen and her colts. 13Z looks splendid…he is sturdy and strong and seems very intelligent, too.
I’ll bet John and Mario are smiling, knowing LIS and Zenny have been reunited again.
Past the Grandstand (Mary)
So great to see Zenyatta with Life Is Sweet! That is just wonderful! And wow, 13Z looks absolutely fantastic! I’ve always thought highly of him; he is a very impressively built colt.
Liz Carlin
Man, is he something else OR what??? Oh my, he’s a stunning stunning stunning boy. He reminds more and more of Secretariat with every photo I see of him. It looks like weaning went smoothly and the Queen is back with her girls having a hen party, lol. Thank you so much for sharing her and the boys!
