Happy Tuesday!
Zenyatta’s youngest boy was weaned last week, and it all went very well. Alys sent us some photos before and after, and as you can see the boys are quite large and independent at this time. Z is happy to be back with her old friend Life Is Sweet and they definitely seem to share a bond. We’ll have more photos to share with you soon.

Noah’s Ark Animal Sanctuary needs our help!
http://www.noahs-ark.org/
Noah’s Ark Animal Sanctuary is a 501(c)3 Non-Profit Organization. Home to 1,200 animals including 100 different species.
If you have never heard about Noah’s Ark let me tell you a little about them.
Their Mission is:
•To provide a home for injured, abused and orphaned animals.
•To provide awareness through our rehab/education programs that emphasize all living things have value no matter how small or seemingly insignificant. When we as a society can recognize this fact, we will begin to win the battles for conservation and preservation.
•To provide unconditional love and care for animals who have special needs in their lives whether mental, physical or emotional
Noah’s Ark is home to the only known combo of “BLT” Baloo the Bear, Leo the Lion, and Shere Khan the Tiger.
Also, there is Ann and Doc a black bear and tiger. Along with many, many other rescued and surrendered animals.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5vBPTjNr5EA&feature=player_embedded
Where our help is needed. In August new federal rules where put into place and Noah’s Ark was advised they needed to raise all of their fences for the cats from 8′ to 16′ by October! This will cost almost $500,000!
http://video.foxnews.com/v/2671333830001/new-regulation-threatens-animals-unbreakable-bond/
Along with the exotic animals they also are home to many other types of animals, including a very large herd of rescued and surrendered horses.
And not only do they help animals but they also have a children’s home to help abused children find forever homes.

Dear Z’sters,
This is my first time attempting to post a link — hope it works!
Great story about Ken Ramsey’s approach to raising horses. Enjoy!

It always helps to get the spelling right, huh?
It is a very interesting article.

Dear Z’sters,
I am afraid this isn’t going to work! Apparently, I don’t have enough “alphabet soup” in the recipe!! This article is by Amanda Duckworth for ESPN.
Can someone please get this up and visible?
Thanks!

Judy and Marshal, great find. Thank you so much. Ken Ramsey seems to have found the answer for his horses. So good to see quality owners like this.
Wonder if they have a “come back home” clause for the ones they sell abroad?

Dear Shirley and Celeste:
You’re so welcome. Great find by Marshall.
Wouldn’t surprise me at all if they have “Buy Back” clauses in their sales agreements. They seem like genuinely responsible owners. Hugs, jB

Thank you for linking to the magazine article! Very nice to read more about the Ramsey’s breeding operation. I always enjoy watching the Kittens run. Thanks!

Great article – thanks Marshall and Judy. Loved the spa picture! Wouldn’t have thought horses liked being out in all kinds of weather (with ice in their manes), but the Ramsey’s certainly seem to know what they’re doing.

I got home from work late today. Just went into Keeneland and saw that Tasty Temptations colt did sell. So wanted to see him.
Did anyone here get to see him. I bet he was really a looker. So sorry I missed him.
If anyone can share what he looked like please do.

He was not in the sales ring very long, but he has definitely changed since his baby pic. Bay colt and could not see much in the way any white markings. he sold for 21,000.

Dear Peggy (N):
Found this piece on the Adelaide Advertiser’s site – it relates to illegal use of a lasix-type drug – hope I don’t offend anyone by posting it.
http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/superracing/rv-vet-claims-trainers-illegally-injecting-horses-to-gain-a-couple-of-metres-have-much-to-lose/story-fnii0owf-1226722341799
Racing Victoria has been really active in the illegal injecting by trainers issue recently, and I think it will only get tougher when the Spring Racing Carnival gets under way. Cheers, KathyR.
Max
Kathy R. Australia can do what it thinks is right for their horses. In the US some of the best trainers use lasix to ensure that horses who do suffer from the strain that racing inflicts on their lungs. Mark Casse a top North American conditioner who trains for Lane’s End both in Canada and the US uses it. John Shirreffs used it to help the Queen. If Zenyatta used lasix, that’s says it all for me. In my opinion, Shirreffs and Zenyatta are perfect on this and all subjects.
Terry Crow
Max-You have made some very solid points in this post.
Max
TC. You might recall that Mark Casse and other US trainers came out swinging on the issue of banning lasix on race days, especially after Spring in the Air aka Little Zenyatta was prevented as a 2 year old from using it in the Breeders’ Cup, and suffered from a severe bleed as a result. North American horses race primarily on dirt or synthetics, unlike these foreign tracks with turf. Racing on dirt over a long period can be an especially tough proposition for a horse. I see nothing wrong with giving lasix to horses to help them avoid pain and suffering from dirt and race enduced strain. At Woodbine last week, the UK invader, Trade Storm, raced in the Woodbine Mile by choice on lasix, and that was a turf race.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Kathy R
No offense taken from your post. I always want to know everything about issues.
I would have probably made a good judge.

Frankel is raising money for charity like Zenyatta with visits to his farm. His digs look quite special.

Hi Max,
Frankel’s digs look special, indeed! I would LOVE to visit him there…

Dear Max and Kathy That’s my boy!!!nothing but the best for the Great One!Have heard the Fugue will most probably heard straight for the BC going will be too soft in the Arc That’s one less filly for Orfevre to worry about.Al Kazeem will retire to Her Majesty’s stud in Sandringham at the end of the year. Hugs Sheena
@KathyR Come back soon Bruce will be missing you !!!Hugs Sheena
Max
Sheena. Wondering if Frankel is a little wistful for his racing days?
Over here the Great One is Roberto Clemente or Wayne Gretsky. The horse Roberto, Zenyatta’s great grandfather via V, and Big D’s sire, is named after Roberto Clemente, one of the best baseball players of the modern era.
What is the connection between Queen Elizabeth and Al Kazeem?
Barbara Wood (Texas)
Dear all: I got a notification that one of the horses in my virtual stable, Indian Blaze, did not finish. Couldn’t find anything about him. Anyone happen to know what happened? It was race 8 at Presque Isle. Thanks.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Barbara, here is what the Equibase chart said:
INDIAN BLAZE lost action and was pulled
up down the backstretch, was jogged for the veterinarian, then was vanned off.
Hope he will be OK.
Barbara Wood (Texas)
Thanks, Sandy. I went to that page, but the writing on my screen was fuzzy and the zoom/enlarge feature didn’t work. Hugs.
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Hi! I can’t begin to imagine what it would be like to be a close connection to a really GREAT horse. I’m sure you would want nothing but the best for them. It must be nice to not have to worry about how much something is going to cost and just go for it.
Happy Friday Eve! Tomorrow we hear from Hovis!
Hugs,
Kathy
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Max Cannot find any connection between the Queen and Al Kazeem. As you know he is by Dubawi, the only thing I could think of is Shirley Heights, who is in his family. He won the Epsom Derby in 1978 and he stood as a sire at Sandringham, his sire was the great mill reef, both their names have an Antigua connection I knew that Roberto was named after the great Roberto Clemente. Great names for great horses they always live on in our memories. Am sure Frankel misses his racing as much as I miss seeing him.Hugs Sheena
Max
Sheena. Interesting news about these horses. The Queen Elizabeth is very astute as a horse expert so that there must be something very good about Al. I thought, maybe wrongly, that only her own horses were at the Royal Stud. Do you recall her visit a few years ago to Ireland? She made certain to visit the horses. Did she visit Coolmore?
Frankel is missed by many, and I bet that he misses Bullet Train. It was always a pleasure to watch him and BT in action. At least you still have Mad Moose, a horse who is famous for not running on the flat or jumps. Looking forward to Hurricane Fly coming back.

Does anyone know if Stonestreet put up the Maggy Hawk filly for sale? I haven’t seen anything about her so hope they plan to keep her and race.
carol in arkansas
Maggy Hawks filly….2012… sold earlier…several days ago…..I think Mandy Pope got her…I intend to keep watching her…really impressive as a baby …full sister to AA
Janet Newman
Carol is correct. The Maggy Hawk filly out of Northern Afleet went in Session 5 and sold for 400,000 to Whisper Hill Farm ( Mandy Pope)
She was a nice looking filly too.
shirleeinindy
Janet & Carol, Thank you for the information about the Maggy Hawk filly. Was hoping I would win the lottery and could buy her since Alex, her big brother, was one of my favorites.
Max
Terry Crow. This article supports your view that horses improve as racers with age. Attfield also trained Musketier.
Article also mentions War Front as a leading sire along with the Kitten.

Dear Max Forgot to mention Derby winner Motivator is standing at Sandringham stud as well .By Montjeu, he is now the sire of this very good filly Treve , who is running in the Arc.Am looking forward to the jumps season too, especially to see if Moosie will decide to run! Hugs Sheena

Sheena. I just looked up Treve. She’s quite beautiful. I hope that she does not distract the Big O. We all know how gallant that he is with fillies. Frankie Dettori seems to be her jockey?
