Diary Post #152
Thank you Ron and Barb France from Blaine, WA…for sharing this gorgeous Z SKY photo!
Good Morning,
Today is a big THANK YOU DAY!
Look at the beautiful sky! The France family sent this photo to John and Dottie. They commented in the note…when first seeing this sky, they thought of ME! To quote Barb…”we spotted this ‘Z’ between Mt. Baker and The Sisters very early one morning last week. FIRST THOUGHT WAS… ZENYATTA!” This is so sweet! The sky looks amazing…and the BIG Z…is a WOW! Thank you for thinking of me!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SUE! May this be a healthy, joyful, and blessed year for you. I guess this January birthday thing is really popular. My horse friends and I all had a great celebration on January 1st. Enjoy your day!
This is still one of my favorite posts ever. Post 152 Zenny wished me Happy Birthday.
I will never forget this it is so special to me.
Love you Zenny you are the best

January 8 Cherokee Devotional
Lo, the poor Indian!
Whose untutored mind
Sees God in clouds,
Or hears him in the wind.
Alexander Pope recognized the simplicity in the Indian’s beliefs. Though all tribes are rich in symbolism to express what they believe, we all basically believe in One God, One Creator, One Great Loving Spirit over all. The Cherokees had their Father-Creator who was Yowah, the unity of three beings. The name Yowah was so sacred that only certain priests were allowed to say it. This same innate belief lives in each of us if we can only uncover it. Worship is of the heart, deep, joyous, personal. It is a life-current between each of us and our Creator. We can wrongly destroy ourselves but never the love that is beyond our understanding. It is there, even when we are too stubborn to receive it.
We perceive a battle between good and evil, and we also perceive good will win.

Dear Sheena,
Our faith is our strength when we have lost someone dear to us. We do not grieve as others grieve. We know we will someday be reunited and that makes all the difference.
Happy birthday to Zeus! Such a pretty girl. I haven’t checked on Ava Gardner in a while. Will do so.
Have a good day. Hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Sugar and Nikko. Kathy

One of my most favorite memories was visiting Oaklawn to see Zenyatta race I think her 16th race. I loved the area and the track was so fan friendly! My heart began skipping beats when Zenyatta so close to my view, as I was right at the rail, did her Z dance. Then of course she ran a big race leaving all the others behind! Whoppee!!!
I will never forget it. Oaklawn is a super track to visit.

Dear Max Thank you very much.I expect he’ll get a suspension knowing the BHA.Hope Justice Nigel Twiston-Davies can do his best. How are you coping with the Arctic blast seems there’s an improvement on the way for you.Take care.Hugs Sheena
Max
Sheena. Moosie’s twitter account seems to have crashed, maybe from his fans trying to support him? That horse is becoming more and more famous. I love his attitude.
I am coping with the Arctic Vortex which used to be just called cold air pressure cells from Canada. I invested several years ago in a parka coat which is good for temps to -50. They are great in this kind of cold. You however have to stay out of shopping malls or grocery stores while wearing these things. Too warm. If the temps rise, I’ll have to change to another coat.
My friend with the horse farm told me that most of his horses are still outside 24/7 with their blankets. He has to make certain that they have plenty of food and water. The TBs however and his donkeys are in the barns.
sheena davies(wales)
Dear Max Yes, I find the shops very warm when I wear my winter coats. Parkas are wonderful for the cold.We have been promised some cold days next week, have been very lucky this winter,so far, with temps.I really hope all will go well with the Moose today (it’s gone midnight).Gosh those horses must be tough to stick the cold! The TB’s are more delicate. Will let you know what happens in court !free the Moosie!!! Hugs Sheena
Max
Sheena. I fear an adverse finding against the Moose. Rule bound types do not appreciate mavericks like our Moosie.
My friend told me that he would make his horses go to the barns if it ever gets too cold. So far they seem to be okay. He has a shelter for them too so that they can get out of the wind. Main thing is to keep their water from freezing so that they can drink, and good supplies of food.

Dear Queen Z,
So sorry to hear the news of your old workout buddy, El Vino who passed today from a bad step while playing in his pasture. Zenyatta, you touched so many people and horses’ hearts including his. Farewell El Vino, rest in peace.
Sally Blank (cherish Z for my lifetime)

Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
I just read this too Shannon. This is a tragic loss – here he was enjoying retirement in Florida, safe from accidents on the track, and one bad step brought his life to a crashing halt. As one who enjoyed the extraordinary efforts of “his voice” on Facebook not only to share the highlights of El Vino’s career but also to teach about and commemorate the lives of scores of horses who have graced the track, I am sad beyond words. This is a stark reminder of the fact that life is precious – not to be taken for granted – we can’t avoid all of the bad steps. My heart aches for his connections and for our Cynthia Holt.

Rest in Peace, dear El Vino. So loved and cherished by many who will never forget such a beautiful and Noble Knight. He will always be remembered as a very special part of Zenyatta’s legacy. And his FB page was an absolute joy; full of warmth, kindness and humor. While my heart is broken, I wish El Vino three whinnies as he crosses the Bridge. So many hearts are grieving his loss. I know this is asking a lot…but could this be one occasion when perhaps the Queen returns, if only for a moment, to honor the Noble Knight. Farewell, EV…until we meet again.

Sometimes great distances exist between the high points of our lives. Time moves swiftly and we tend to let it slip away without making it count while we wait on another high experience. We discount it as nothing unless we have reached some spectacular height and have passed ten other people on the way. The Indian does not consider himself idle when he stands still watching, listening, seeing the stars, or watching the sunset. His spirit-eyes absorb these signs and wonders to feed him when he cannot see the rolling hills, the flowing streams. A narrow view is one that constantly asks, What shall I eat? What shall I wear? What can make me feel secure? And all the time, the beauty and peace which cost nothing surround us unnoticed. Envy and lack of inner joy rob us of our peace of mind.
O, listen! Hear! Sing with me, for I am joy.

I did not realize that yesterday was Elvis’ birthday. In his honor, I will post one of the two stories I have about him. My late sister-in-law went to high school with Elvis in Memphis, TN. According to what she told me, he was considered to be sort of a redneck, which is why I like him, and not that popular with the general student body. His first live appearance was in a school talent contest in which he accompanied himself on the guitar. He sang Old Shep and won third prize. My late sister-in-law was friendly to him, as she used to tell it, and, as the stories go, he never forgot the people who were nice to him when he was nobody. As a result, my nephews got to visit him several times at Graceland. When he was in “retirement” he lived in Bel Air, California which is near Beverly Hills. MY nephews also visited him there and one afternoon Elvis invited them to accompany him in a ride in his limo. They were riding along when Elvis spotted an attractive woman and told his driver to stop. He instructed his driver, as the story goes, to approach the young woman and tell her that Elvis would like to meet her. The driver got out and approached her. pointing to the limo. In a rather unladylike gesture, she flipped the bird to the limo. The story the driver told when he got back in was that she didn’t believe it was Elvis in the limo and to quit bothering her. My nephews said that Elvis laughed all the way home, saying that he knew that was going to happen. When you think about it, it makes sense. After all, would you believe that it was Elvis in that limo?

Double-BOO! How can the BHA be so… what word do I want — dumb? arrogant? unfair? asinine – no, I don’t want to insult poor donkeys!
I emailed them my bit about Milton’s poem as it described Moosie — but maybe they didn’t care, or don’t like poetry, or don’t like Americans butting into their territory. Whatever their problem is, I don’t agree.
Max
Vicki B. Bravo! I’m proud of you. Let the Moose run.
