Sheena,
Interestingly, it was an American Greetings e-card, not a commercial.
Hugs, Kathy
Marshall (NC broad)
Kathy,
I love Uggie, too! I was a fan of this e-card before I ever heard of Uggie. After seeing the movie, “The Artist”, I found out that Uggie had done greeting card videos. What a brilliant little Jack Russell! I wonder how he is doing since retirement — hope he isn’t too impaired by age.
I watched the video again this year when on the American Greetings site — I simply love this Christmas e-card!
Cheers and Hugs
Kathy
Marshall,
Uggie is brilliant, indeed. I do know he was having some health issues according to the book about him. Hopefully his vet is keeping him going strong.
Another brilliant dog was David Hartwig’s dog Skidboot. Did you ever see him perform? Amazing!
Thank God for these brilliant animals that touch us so.
Cheers and Hugs back. Kathy
Marshall (NC broad)
Kathy,
Thanks for the response! Yes, I have seen Skidboot perform, and his performance was definitely amazing — mind-boggling even!
Thank God, indeed, for wonderful dogs and other brilliant creatures, too!
All the Best in 2014!

In addition to Ebby, John has another lightly raced 5-yr old mare in his barn that is staying in training and not going to the breeding shed…..Laria (Giant’s Causeway – Uriel, by Unbridled). She is entered today Jan 2) in a Maiden Special Weight at Santa Anita (Race 5). She is Moss bred and owned. Another Shirreffs’ trained and Moss owned racer given time to mature.

Dear Sheena,
Thank you for this update on Uggie! So happy that he is doing well and enjoying his retirement.
I can’t believe it is another year — seems the last quarter always flies by! Reilly and Huey seem to be well and happy — Reilly on his heart medicine and Huey on glucosamine/chondroitin daily(&Rimadyl when needed). They enjoy their food and our walks, too.
Wishing you a healthy and happy 2014!

This is more than a little late but I still want to extend my good wishes to all for a happy, healthy 2014. I hope this “year of the horse” is filled with peaceful moments and unexpected delights. (I recently found out that I was born in a “year of the horse” – just sorry it took that so long to “take” :-). We are just buried in snow here on the “north coast” which has made life very difficult in lots of ways, but I’m trying hard to catch up. Thanks to Team Z and the Lane’s End folks not only for so generously keeping all of us “in the loop” as far as Zenny and her boys are concerned but also for the gift of each other. And thanks to everyone who posts here for enriching our lives in so many ways.

Hmmm. I wonder what year I was born in–probably “the year of the dinosaur”. Hugs.
Stay in and stay warm.
Marshall (NC broad)
LOL, Barbara!!
I seem to remember that my birth year is the year of the ox: although, I, too, could fall into the “dinosaur year”!
Cheers and Hugs
Vicki B. near Hollywood Park
LoL, Barbara! I don’t believe this stuff, but I just checked, and there is NO Year of the Dinosaur. I’d rather have the Horse, but I will have to settle for the Ox (I think I’ve always instinctively known it). Better than the Rat!
Sorry you’re stuck in snow, Sandy — stay warm! 11 degrees! Debbie G. is not much better off at 14. Although my friend in Winnipeg has it worse, at -6 degrees. I sure have nothing to complain about, weatherwise, out here.
Barbara Wood (Texas)
Yes, I just made it up. Seemed fitting–lol. I don’t believe in it either. Hugs.
Sally Blank (cherish Z for my lifetime)
Barbara, this has all been so enjoyable even if you made it up. I have no idea what “year of” I was born in except for 1945; perhaps it is best that I don’t know. hah
hugs, Sally B
Vicki B. near Hollywood Park
Well, Sally, from 13 February 1945 until 1 February 1946: was the Year of the Rooster! Whatever that means!
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Ummm . . . not sure what there is to “believe in” (or not). Just thought it was cute! Here all this time, I was a “horse person.” :-)
Marshall (NC broad)
Yes, Sandy, it is cute! Barbara and I are just a couple of “dinosaurs” wishing WE were horses, too!! Ha-ha!! :-)
Hugs
Vicki B. near Hollywood Park
Sandy, I was not sure either, but when looking them up, I saw the Chinese Astrological Zodiac, imparting meanings of personality attributes to each person, depending on their “sign”. I’ve had friends try and explain things in such terms, and it’s clear they believe in it, for whatever reasons, religious or not.
I do not care about that, but just like the idea of the “Year of the Horse” coming soon. As you said, it is cute.
Barbara Wood (Texas)
Hope you didn’t take offense. I was just kidding. Hugs.

I just checked I am a Rooster. A chicken!
That just seems so silly. I would much rather be a Horse ;-(

Sorry to hear that the Backside 55 Facebook page is closing. Made me remember how I felt when Dottie told us that she would no longer be the voice of Zenyatta. Happy New Year to All. Can’t wait to see Zenyatta’s War Front foal. Thank you Lanes End, Mosses and all involved in keeping us abreast of what’s going on in Zenyatta’s world.

I hope Zenyatta and babies are alright. I get worried when I don’t hear for a while. Happy New Year, sweet girl. I love you and hope to hear about you soon.

January 3 Cherokee Devotional
When we last saw Essie she had been ashen and without the strength we see in her now. Now she sits flat on the ground, legs straight out in front, and reeds tumble across her knees and lie around her. Nimble fingers seek the perfect one to start a basket. Essie is close to our hearts. She has our Grandmother’s name. Her reticence does not inspire idle talk, so we ask what happened to change her. With a quick glance, she says, “God heal.” ” Is it possible? So quickly and completely?” Hesitantly, she asks, “You got fast oven?” I say I do. “What make it work?” “Why, microwaves-energy. They change the molecules, the structure of the bread from cold to hot.” Seconds pass. She says, almost too softly, “Prayer energy. Make me well.”
I love a people who have always made me welcome to the best they had…who are honest without laws…who never take the name of God in vain…who worship God without a Bible…and I believe God loves them too.

Dear Kathy Brilliant post! Our grandmothers mean so much to us don’t they. We’ve survived another storm the south-west of England and Wales got hit by a tidal surge even our little town was on the BBC news last night when the river Towy burst it’s banks, thunder storm woke me in the early hours. We British love our weather related stories.Good news about Sprinter ,his vet Celia Marr tested him before, during and after 2hrs of exercise this morning and his heart rate was perfectly normal but I’ll still be worried when he races that’s a whole different ballgame!!Ray’s Daddy is busy pwowing and he’s going to play in the snow have heard it’s very cold in the north east.Went on Marty Mouse last night he’s so cute for a rat!!Hugs to you Kisses for the puppy Pack Sheena

Kathy
Dear Sheena,
By understanding our ancestors we have a better understanding of who we are. Gosh, stay safe in that nasty weather. Our weather in CA is so boring. Nice most of the time. We do have to cope with severe draught as a consequence, however. God bless Sprinter and keep him safe. Yes, the weather in the east if horrible right now. Ray will have lots of snow to play in! I love to watch him running around and eating the snow. And his bruddah trying to find the snowballs Daddy has thrown. Too cute!!! I agree Marty is cute for a rat. Everyone I ever knew who had a pet rat really loved them. Best pets ever, they said. I think I’ll stick with dogs, cats and horses! Have a lovely day. Hugs from me, kisses from The Pack. Kathy

Man, we could use some “boring” weather. Soak up some sun for the rest of us!

Sandy, So could we here in Indy. Temps next week -18 and wind chill -30. More snow on the way for Sunday 8-10″) and then again later next week with 7″ already on the ground. Coldest weather we have had in 20 years. I know you all in northern Ohio are having as bad, if not worse.

Sending prayers for all of you in the middle of the blizzard and cold. Stay home and stay warm. Up here in Wis we have the cold temps which will make it another Ice Bowl on Sunday for the PackerXNiner game. Yes on the frozen tundra again. Hope no one has power outages, and the homeless get shelter, and any stray animals are found and sheltered. hugs

Sally Blank (cherish Z for my lifetime)
Hi all, we have had below average temps all of our Dec., very frigid weather of single digits…..but lately below zero temps and with wind, wow! -15 to -30 degrees here in Wi. I thought you would like to know how the horses are doing.
At our monthly Horse Sanctuary meeting Jan 2nd we heard from a volunteer about a visit from a horse communicator with our horses. ( Our dear Trina was very instrumental a year ago finding the first communicator for Sir, and for me to talk to and pass on info. This was awesome and I can never thank Trina enough!!) Then it turned out that a volunteer had a friend who knew of an animal communicator who donates her time to various places nearby in Wi.
The recent visit as related : Sir is in such pain and is wondering how long he will be in this cold. ( He has big time arthritis.) Sir is wondering if it would be better to die but needs to know how long this cold will be around. He is also bored. I believe he will receive something like bute to get him through the subzero temps. I love him so.
Frito, who has had choke before and has digestive troubles and can not chew hay and swallow hay anymore, says he will give us some good signs when he is ready to go, but right now he is doing well and as long as he still gets the loving attention and care he is happy where he is.
Fancy, the oldest, (33 yrs old this yr.) did not wish to have Raaken performed (not sure of the spelling) and said he was content and feeling well and wanted the horse communicator to spend the time with the other three.
I just saw, as so did others,a change in our Jo. She has been a spitfire, a real dickens at times and now, stands quiety around. The communicator said of all the four horses she was most concerned about Jo. She was unable to pinpoint from Jo the exact problem. Poor Jo.
We addressed this but I am not sure whether it was confirmed that they will get a vet in. I just noticed for the past month or so that when I am there, she does not pass gas like she used to. Of all the four, you knew Jo was nearby for sure, it was almost comical!! The passing went on and on and on! hah
Sometimes I myself forget that these horses are much older and at any given week or day, something could change. They have to know how much us volunteers love them because we would not be there in these bitter temps! My nose is actually chafed like a kids! Please keep Sir, Jo, Frito and Fancy in your prayers during this cold winter.
hugs to all, Sally B
