Spicer Cub is the subject of one of the funniest races ever seen. He bolts out twice goes around the starting gate and still nearly wins the race. Check it out : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbH3N5VJzBE .. Broke his maiden on 7/1/2013 by winning Maiden Special Weight at Delaware Park by 3 3/4 lengths on a sloppy (sealed) track.

Spicer Cub injured but expected to race again
Posted by The Biz on Oct 23, 2013 in Breaking, Maryland, MD Racing | 2 comments
Fan favorite Spicer Cub suffered a displaced lateral condylar fracture of his left hind leg during Saturday’s Maryland Million Starter Handicap, trainer Mary Eppler told The Racing Biz. He underwent surgery with Dr. Dean Richardson yesterday at New Bolton, and the prognosis so far is positive.
Eppler believes that the horse will be able to run again following a four- to six-month recovery period.
The four year-old gelded son of Louis Quatorze finished second at odds of 11-1 in the $50,000 event after leading in mid-stretch. Eppler believes that he may have suffered the injury during the last sixteenth of a mile of the race. He appeared sound immediately following the race but had to be be vanned from the test barn back to Eppler’s barn at Laurel.
Eppler did not know what might have caused the injury, calling Spicer Cub “probably one of the soundest horses I have in the barn.”
Spicer Cub became a fan favorite in April, when in a maiden race at Pimlico, he bolted rounding the turn, righted himself, then suddenly swerved to the far outside of the racetrack between the rail and the starting gate. Once straightened away, he rallied to be second by just a nose.
Two races later Spicer Cub broke his maiden at Delaware Park and subsequently won a first-level allowance.
Eppler, who called him something of a barn favorite, described him as “such a funny horse.” She added, “He’s just a character — he gets into everything.”

Michele Moore from Beaumont, TX.
Barbara and Ashton, I need prayers, they now think I have breast cancer after fighting endometrial cancer. I am not going to do anything about this, I simply give up. I don’t want to be sick anymore so I am going to watch Zenyatta videos and wait for my time. I don’t have a husband or boyfriend at this time, but I do have two wonderful cats that could have a YouTube channel, Ha Ha!! I just simply am so tired that I know I will be seeing Kari soon and eventually Queen Z when it is her time. I wish I could have met her and this week a man that comes to our office with his kids and is into horse racing gave me a horse, my pick anytime for free if I could get a piece of land because I live in an apartment. My whole life I wanted this, funny isn’t it???
That was number 2 on my bucket list, Love to you all, Michele.

Michelle – I am sorry you are going through this difficult time and I do not have the appropriate words in me to convey just how sorry I am. You are a Zenyatta fan or you would not be here, so I remind you of this site when Dottie was acting as Zenyatta’s voice. Many times the theme of Zenyatta’s message was “DON’T EVER GIVE UP”. That is my message to you. Remember those words – Zenyatta truly lived by those words during her racing career and I’m sure she lives by those words to this day. Let Zenyatta bring you courage.
Kathy
Michele,
I’m so touched by your words. My heart goes out to you and you are in my prayers. I pray pain will be at a minimum. Watching Zenyatta videos is a great idea.
Peace to you. Hugs, Kathy.

Hi Michele,
So sorry to see that you’ve had another problem thrown in your path of fighting the cancer, but it makes me sad to think you are considering giving up. Not knowing all your circumstances none of us here can tell you what you should do, but if there is strength in numbers as we’ve always been told, please know that there are many, many Zenyatta fans here for you. Wishing I could find some words to comfort you at this time, but all I can do is say I’m sending you good thoughts and prayers at this time.

Dear Michele
I know we don’t know the full report of your cancer, but be sure you know the severity of the cancer you have, and how far advanced it is. Everyone is different and they are doing amazing things with cancer these days. There is a wonderful Cancer center in Texas that my Dr. has been out there many times for updates lectures seminars etc.
So sorry the name excapes me right now for the center. I am sure you have heard of it though. Huge center. I can find out if you need the name.
I have know the plight of cancer and I share the huge concern if mine came back.
Michele know know know all about the cancer that “You” have. Cant stress that enough. It’s amazing what they can find out now. They found out pretty much what my cancer was and found out how they could try to treat it. Michele I noticed that you said that they think you have breast cancer.
Be “sure” everything about it. There’s always Hope. Live each day and try to follow God’s will

Michele,
There are some places in the body that if it comes back to these they can’t be removed. But if its breast cancer they might could help you. “Don’t give up.
I completely understand what your saying I don’t know what I would do it mine came back.
Be sure Michele of exactly what it is.
Didn’t mean to go on so long.
Some of the people that gave me “talks too” I’ll call it angelic advice.

Michelle, DO NOT GIVE UP!! Zenny would not want that as you know. Z was a fighter on the race track, she NEVER gave up, even on that Churchill surface she did not like!! As Winston Churchill quoted “NEVER NEVER NEVER QUIT”…Lots of Healing Z Hugs to you….
Vicki B. near Hollywood Park
Hi Michele, That is so tough to feel — you fight off one thing, and it may have cropped up somewhere else. But please hang on to make sure of what your next fight is, and just how much work it may take to fight it. It looks like you don’t quite know that, yet.
My best friend recently had breast biopsy, and although she was of course scared, it turned out not cancer! Three other friends had breast cancer treatment this year or last year, all with so far successful results — they had radiation, or chemo, or both, but are all now recovering. A 72 yr.old guy I know was told two years ago he had stage 4 cancer on his spine, which he thought a death sentence, but although treatment was hard, doctors were surprised it went completely away, and now he not only gets to see more of his sons and grandchild, he’s due to earn his M.A. as an English teacher next May.
So I totally understand the horrid feeling that descended on you, but “giving up” may be premature. It’s ok to feel hopeless, but letting it take over your life often makes things worse.
Maryp NY
Dear Michele,
You will be in my prayers. May God give you all you need to get through this along with the strength to move forward. Please, please do not give up….Never give up.
Please heed the words of those who have experienced similar conditions and believe that the best course is to never give up. May God bless you and the Spirit guide you.
Love,

I decided to post this for you. My friend and neighbor Amy was diagnosed with stage 3 Pancreatic cancer I think a good 2 years ago. Here is a recent post…after some misery and being quite ill from treatments she is DOING WELL!! Quote below. She went thru Chemo and Radiation and then the Nano Knife Surgery at Mass General Hospital in Boston. Take Heart Michelle, you can fight whatever comes next and LIVE a good life!!
” It’s still sinking in that the tumor is gone. I didn’t expect it. A part of me thinks they may have done the scan wrong. But, a MGH radiologist confirmed what the surgeon told us earlier in the week. It’s true… no tumor… just scar tissue from the surgery! I will be having a follow-up scan in 3 months.
It’s been almost two years since being diagnosed with Stage 3 Pancreatic Cancer. At my first meeting with the oncologist at MGH, he was not hopeful because of the placement and size the tumor. I was in shock and fearful of the future”.

Michele Moore, I truly am speechless about your health; I wish everyone here happiness at Christmas time. I am saddened for you. I offer my prayers to you, but, I guess I would say do not give up! Is there not a support group that may be going through what you are going through? If not, you still have us here and all our prayers together are strong!! You have to put yourself in a good place and perhaps that is watching Z’s races over & over, and viewing all her beautiful pictures; then putting yourself there. God bless you.

Hi Michele
I have not had cancer myself but have seen my husband and now my Mom go through treatment. My husband had brain cancer 3 tumors and cancer cells in his spinal fluid. The chemo brought so many complications. The radiation at that time was not like today. The full head radiation caused problems after years of being in remission. He never gave up trying to have a normal life. He loved working in the yard. That helped him to keep on fighting. What do you love? Take that and use it to keep fighting. Truth be told you really never know the way you will leave this world. Cancer was not my husband’s cause of death. A fatal traffic accident.
My Mom had breast cancer and just finished her treatment. Chemo and again no picnic then surgery last came that darn radiation. My Mom is going to be 81 in a few months. Yes this was hard for her especially after just losing my Dad in February. Mom is by herself and so am I so we know the alone thing. Cancer shows its nasty self to often today. I know that treatments are becoming more specialized all the time. My sister worked for a famous cancer center here in Fl. The team she was working with collected samples of tissue. They did thousands of types. The study was to find what types of genes where found in the tissue. The work was very successful as now they can tell exactly what type of treatment is best for your gene type. This process was just used on my Mom this year. Also now they can do a onetime radiation treatment after surgery. Don’t give up. Hope and believe you will be well. See yourself riding your new horse even if you have to board him or her. You can pretend you are riding Zenny. We are all here for you again please do not give up.

Superstar Orfevre set for final start
By Nicholas Godfrey Racingpost.com 20 DEC 2013
THE curtain comes down on the career of Japanese superstar Orfevre (Yasutoshi Ikee/Kenichi Ikezoe) when he takes on Ryan Moore’s mount Gold Ship in Sunday’s Arima Kinen, the nation’s end-of-season grand prix at Nakayama.
One of the world’s richest races with a total purse of 384,860,000 yen (£2.25m), the famous race is a national sporting event in Japan that reaches far beyond the usual fan base, much like the Grand National in Britain, the Kentucky Derby in the States and the Melbourne Cup in Australia.

December 21 Cherokee Devotional
This is the time when we start to weigh and balance the year coming to an end. We reflect on what we did and didn’t do, what things went well and what did not. We can learn both from what went well and what did not. Our challenge is not to let the things that didn’t go well overpower us with guilt and grief. Yes,we need to acknowledge our mistakes and try to make amends where we can. But we also need to let the past be the past, and step into the future. Leave behind the feelings that simply drag you down, then take the lessons you’ve learned this year into the future. They will serve you well.
The sky was the home of the god who held a watchful care over every star. They heard him whisper in the gentle breeze, or howl in the tempest.

Vicki I too lived near Hollywood Park from 1957-67 and would like to meet and talk with you about our experiences of Inglewood, HP and the horses we saw there. When you go to Hollywood Park this Sunday where might you be hanging out so I might find you. My husband and I will be spliting our time between the paddock and the track. I will have a ‘cast’ on my right arm, be wearing a plain blue t-shirt, blue jeans and wide brimmed hat Sunday. Hope we can hook up for some reminiscing.
Vicki B. near Hollywood Park
Hi Anita, Trina just tipped me off that you left me this message, she is coming with a friend, and we will meet up there, we are aiming for 11:30 am. She and I both prefer the paddock to the stands around the track. I like to see the horses up close. I have made note of your cast and “attire”, and will try and spot you. I will have blue jeans too, and a black t-shirt with a picture of Bruce Lee on it. I will also have my “Zenyatta’s Dumplings” name tag, and Trina may have hers, too, and probably others will, as well. I hadn’t thought about a hat — maybe I’ll bring my sparkly Zenyatta-colors visor. It will likely be cold tomorrow though, so then I would also have on a light lime-green hooded sweatshirt.
If you see this in time, let me know what time you expect to get there, so we will know when to look out for you. I will check back here sometime in the morning before I leave. Hope to meet up with you tomorrow.
Anita H
So glad Trina was able to tip you off about my comment. I was at HP Saturday and it was quite chilly so I might also be wearing a gray fleece jacket or navy blue ‘hoody’ depending on how cold it is. I expect to be at HP by 11:30-12:00 and will look for you around the paddock.

Dearest Michelle,
You have been in my hearts and prayers since I first learned of your cancer. I wish I had my mother’s gift with words and ability to lift spirits. Please contact me via youtube on one of her older videos and I’ll give you my new phone number…then delete the moment I know you have it. Please don’t give up. I’m very emotional right now, and worried about you. Due to my inability to come up with the perfect words of comfort and support, I thought I would remind you of the two videos moma did for YOU from your time at the 2010 BC, and her words. I hope they offer some comfort. Please Never Give Up.
To others, many here may know or remember Michelle from Mr. Shirreffs Youtube channel, my mother’s and pretty much any Zenyatta tribute from long before Dottie started this site.
Michelle, I pray HER words help.

“This is video and pictures of the 2010 Breeder’s Cup walk to the saddling barn. It includes most all entries that day and of course our beloved Zenyatta. It also has pictures and video of Zenyatta at the 2010 Apple Blossom and a few at Churchill Downs barn the day after.
Music is by the amazing Mary Ann Kennedy Please go to itunes and order…She does the most beautiful songs about horses, animals, and nature I have ever heard.
All video and pictures are mine except for the few of Zenny free at Lane’s End in the snow. Anyone wanting to use mine to celebrate their love for Queen Zenyatta may as always do so.
The pictures of the fans are my dear friends I sat with at the Breeder’s Cup. My thanks to them both for sharing friendship, memories, and love for an amazing mare our Queen Z and each other.
Thank you Stephanie you are such a beautiful person and great inspiration to me. May this new year bring you tears of joy to replace your tears of heartbreak, torment, and sorrow.
