Happy Friday!
We want to finish off the week with a few videos showing parts of Zenyatta’s daily routine. Alys’ footage shows her in the paddock, in her stall, and eating supper: the simple moments that make up the life of a happy and healthy horse!
Enjoy!

@Sue Noel–it always brightens my day to hear your stories. I am so glad you found another place. We have been through that, and our experience was awful. Speaking of fruit, our Money loves his pears so much, that if you back off, it sounds like he is drinking a Slurpee! Too funny!
We are all on pins and needles, waiting for Z’s big day. I’m sure it can’t come soon enough for her. Pacing, pacing, pacing and good night hugs to all.

Dearest Dumpling Robyn,
Here’s the new improved form
Of your poem,
Featuring you and your dun Dobbin,
And that favorite of many a fan,
Grand ol’ Lava Man,
With whom you’ve a birthday in common!
A Birthday Poem for Robyn Henderson and Lava Man
(March 20, 2013)
Our dear Robyn Henderson
Always has fun
At the races.
At Santa Anita,
The Great Race Place,
Robyn typically graces
The south side
Of the Biscuit’s Walking Ring
Where she finds it the neatest thing
Right up close to the horses to be
And everything see
As the jockeys get ready to ride.
She wears a bright smile
You can see for a mile,
And if you’ve heard the rumor
That she has a great sense of humor,
Well, you can tell
That it’s true
From a photo
She may show
To you
On her cell
Of herself sitting proudly astride
A handsome palomino
Or dun,
Which, she does confide,
She finds it fun
To ride
With the wind in her face.
He’s a steed
Full of speed,
And in the photo
He’s in full run
As if on the lead
In a race.
Without a whinny or neigh,
He’s underway,
Nor does it take a lot
To make him go,
If just a quarter you’ve got
To put in the slot!
Robyn is also a fan
Of the great
Lava Man,
Who her birthday does share.
Robyn did declare
’Twas her plan
To bake
Some carrot cake
To take to Lava Man
So together they can celebrate
This special date!
Robyn and Lava Man,
As we you both commemorate,
Let me state
You two rate
Our highest praise!
May you have the happiest of birthdays
To date!
Happy birthday, Robyn and Lava Man, and many, many more!

First mares in foal to Americain
Americain’s first mares have been tested in foal at Calumet Farm.
Swettenham Stud’s Melbourne Cup winner is covering his initial northern hemisphere book in Kentucky and his first PPT was from G2 winning mare Raw Gold.
Raw Gold (Rahy – Golden Thatch by Slew o’Gold) won the G2 Landaluce Stakes and LR Althea Stakes at Hollywood Park as a two year-old. She also claimed the G3 Santa Ynez Stakes, LR Santa Paula Stakes and LR Linda Card Stakes as a three and four year-old at Santa Anita.
“Americain already has 75 mares and, like Raw Gold, there’s lots of stakes winners and dams of stakes winners among them,” Calumet manager Eddie Kane said. “There are more bookings coming in every week. Breeders see him in the flesh at the Farm and then send a mare – he’s a real good-looking rooster.
“He’s a son of Dynaformer who was an icon in Kentucky before his death last year. Americain was one of his best sons and Australian racing is held in high esteem here in the United States.”

Dear Keta: Regarding Americain – any news if Stephanie Nigge who was his constant companion during his racing career, is still with him? I understood that Swettenham thought she would stay with him to get him settled (and I guess he’s settled very, very well judging by those in foal mares), but if you have any news would like to know. Thanks and Hugs KathyR.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ROBYN, LISE and the gallant LAVA MAN!
Like Sue (above), I’m starting to pace my sweet Zenny.
We got TONS of snow here in Montreal yesterday just as everyone was getting ready to put their winter coats and boots away…..Mind you, it was still a mild day though windy and it is tough to frown on such wintry beauty. My Daisy Doodlebug wasn’t a fan of the wind, however: it’s those BIG ears that are to blame, since they stand straight up and offer no protection, just like yours, Zenny & Z-12.
I continue to enjoy my newly installed art studio and am working on a third piece since I set it up about a month ago. This one features a dancing horse and a woman in a wintry landscape and uses gesso, fabric, bits of real tree branches and acrylic. Of course, I began it with a very different composition in mind. But, as our RESIDENT POET knows, when you’re creating something out of nothing, there comes a point where you & the work begin a kind of conversation, and the work begins to tell you where it wants to go. So this one started off as a wolf in a wintery landscape, but when there was no conversation between us, I knew it just wasn’t meant to be.
So I started looking through my art material and found this lovely bit of reddish-roan cloth and the first thought I had was a horse. I have quite a few sketch books filled with equine sketches and other sundry, so I started going through these to see if there was a horse that might suit the landscape I had already built on the canvas. I came across a very watery, nondescript watercolour and as I sat looking at it, I began to see the contours of a horse and a woman kind of under the surface. So: out came the scissors and we were on our way!
Now horse and woman are in their landscape and we’re taking a time out. Like writing, I find I spend hours just standing back & looking at a piece I’m working on and that’s what’s happening now. It’s as though our “conversation” has these lovely animated and quiet times.
I just love the creative process. When these conversations are going on between a work and myself, I feel very close to a completely different reality. Call it God or the Universe or any other name, it’s like an ocean right under (or over!) the surface of what I’m creating. There’s nothing like it: except horses.
Zenny takes me to the same place differently, as did others I love before her.
And I haven’t forgotten about THE VAULT — I’ve got a few special “pre-Derby” pieces that I’m researching. Two of these champs are legendary but, for reasons that escape me, the information about them (other than the raw statistics) is VERY hard to dig up. Strange, considering that these 2 were Triple Crown winners, and the third is the first filly to ever win the Filly Triple Crown. Of course, it worries me when I poke into these stories and find the texture so very thin since it is through the past that we arrive in the present. But I’m slugging it out and will be able to write up at least one of these legends pre-Derby!
Hugs to all and many, many kisses to my Big Girl and Z-12.
Trina Nagele in So Cal --PUR

????? Is he in that box? I can see that this is a REALLY big plane, but the other shots of horses we’ve seen being loading show them just walking right in.
LauraJ (Cincinnati, OH)
It depends on the carrier. Tex Sutton walks them up a ramp to permanent stalls. However, moving horses is Tex Sutton’s only business. This appears to be a commercial cargo aircraft. It’s much bigger than the Sutton planes. I imagine they use the modular stalls so they don’t have to reconfigure the entire aircraft. I recall that many of the horses that were airlifted from Europe to the World Equestrian Games in 2010 traveled in these modules. Getting the horses into one is just like loading a trailer. Here’s a video of the WEG airlift from Belgium via FedEx. You can see several shots of these modular stalls being loaded.

Just saw a tweet on drf that BC’s dad and farm and other stallions and whole breeding operation are for sale….you guys from down there know anything about this ….or is it a big rumor
Abigail_1849
Carol: I did a quick search. The same story on their FB page: Eliza Park for sale.
Kathy R.
Dear Carol and Abigail: Just read the piece on the home page for Eliza Park – have heard nothing about this on the racing stations – Andrew Bensley hasn’t mentioned it on his programme, and the Thoroughbreds programme on TVN didn’t raise it either – despite talking about up-coming Inglis sales. And nothing in the print media that I can find so far. So guess we take the principal owner at his word and that it’s been in the process for a while, and now seems right. Interesting to know who would buy it – maybe the Black Caviar connections want to expand into that side of the business – Neil Werrett, principal with Nelly does have connections with Vinery, but would be surprised if they would want to take on such a big operation. Will just have to wait and see what pops up. I know I won’t be bidding! Hugs, KathyR.
