Happy Friday!
We want to finish off the week with a few videos showing parts of Zenyatta’s daily routine. Alys’ footage shows her in the paddock, in her stall, and eating supper: the simple moments that make up the life of a happy and healthy horse!
Enjoy!

Good Morning! Hope everyone who is battling illness is feeling a bit better today. Spring is on the way, as is Zenyatta’s baby. She looks so miserably preggers in the videos, and it just can’t be much longer until she delivers. I think of her every day and send good thoughts her way. She has the most incredible presence and aura, and I am thankful that she has been such a big part of my life and allowed me to be in her cheering section.

Animal Kingdom, Others Ready for Dubai Flight
By Michele MacDonald, The Blood-Horse Updated: Tuesday, March 19, 2013 2:22 PM
Champions Animal Kingdom, Royal Delta, and Trinniberg lead an eight-horse American delegation set to fly to the United Arab Emirates, leaving Florida at approximately 9 p.m. EDT on March 19, for races on the $27 million Dubai World Cup (UAE-I) program March 30.
Once they arrive, they will join multiple grade I winners Dullahan and Little Mike, who have been training at Meydan since their World Cup prep races on March 9, in the quarantine barn area to represent the United States in the world’s most international racing event.
The other American horses due to travel to Dubai, with the California-based runners flying first to Florida where they will join the others for a nonstop trip to the UAE, are:
* The Doug O’Neill-trained pair of Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (gr. I) runner-up He’s Had Enough for the $2 million UAE Derby (UAE-II) and Malibu Stakes (gr. I) runner-up Private Zone for the Dubai Golden Shaheen;
* Varsity, winner of the Gulfstream Park Turf Sprint Stakes on Feb. 2 and trained by Christophe Clement, and grade III winner Great Attack, trained by Wesley Ward, both aimed for the $1 million Al Quoz Sprint (UAE-I);
* Dice Flavor, handy winner of the El Camino Real Derby (gr. III) on Feb. 16 at Golden Gate Fields, which has the same brand of all-weather track that is installed at Meydan.

Keta,
Thanks for the info. I have to think that Dale Romans was wise to take his 2 horses there early. The climate and everything, including the racing surface, is very different and Wise Dan and Dullahan have had a chance to settle in. Most of all, I just hope for a safe trip for all of them. Sure hope AK and Royal Delta can show their stuff.

Poor Saloon – maybe Sheena can find out how he’s doing?

Kathy R. There is no question that VI is a very good looking horse. He’s a handsome gray with a nice race record.

Kathy R. A good decision.
Kathy R.
Dear Max: Skysportsradio played a little bit of the Nelly/Peter Moody press gathering – Pete was being very playful, suggesting (regarding a possible trip to Ascot, and a meeting between All Too Hard and Nelly) that “you never say never” – and that he just wanted to get Friday behind him before any more decisions were made. What a stirrer! Must be feeling as well as his mighty mare.
Kathy R.
Dear Sheena: News this morning (via Andrew Bensley) on Bauer – formerly trained by Luca Cumani, who was retired to become a clerk of course horse. The great fellow (who missed a Melbourne Cup by the closest margin in the race) developed colic and cheated death by around 15 minutes according to the vet, and Graham Sainsbury, the clerk who now owns him. He then had to return to surgery after developing a hernia, has slowly recovered, and took part in his first gymkhana on the weekend – collecting 10 blue ribbons for 10 events. I think the news of his recovery will make Luca and Francesca (who adored him) very happy indeed. Hugs, KathyR.

Sue Noel/Sun Valley,ID
Hi Everyone!!Hope you all had a very Happy St. Patrick’s Day!!!
It was Traveller’s 12th birthday,so we went down to the barn on Sunday and had a little party for her–with green treats of course!! Sue had found a really cute card for her that was a Happy St. Patrick’s Day Birthday—too cute!! She had Granny Smith green apples and Bartlett pears that still had some light green color,with a few carrots as well. Of course,Barnaby got all of that too! When he got ahold of the Granny Smith,he almost puckered up–it was really funny! He still ate it,but you could almost see the expression on his face saying–hey–where’s my Fuji??? Of course,I had some of those for them too,as I was afraid he might not care for the Granny’s.
It was fun,getting to go down to the barn two days in a row–and–riding both days! He is being much better at the mounting block and all. Saturday,when I was getting him lined up at the mounting block,he moved his foot,as though he was going to try to step on me to say he didn’t want me to get on—I tapped his leg and said “NO” and he moved it right back—-and—-stood at the block and let me mount right away. Sunday,he let me on first thing—what a good boy!!!Sunday,there were a lot of horses around the barn and in the arena,so he did not get to run free before I got on him. Rancher Tom was afraid he was going to run away with me,but he was just fine!!
Speaking of Rancher Tom—he decided not to renew his lease at the Susie Q–which was a huge blow to us,as we love being there for the winters. The whole ranch is now owned by a huge corporation,as a corporate retreat,so guess they would like it all to themselves. There have been ranch animals there for the whole history of the Ranch,but times–and things–do change. Since we found that out,we have been scouting for a new winter home for them. We have found a very nice 15 miles closer to home,River Sage Stables,where all disciples are trained and taught. At the Susie Q.,we were the only English riders. Sunday,before we went down for the birthday party,we stopped there and met the owner/manager and found out all about it. They will be together in a nice enclosure with plenty of room to move around,with shelters (Barnaby LOVES having a “house”) and the indoor arena is lovely. They are also firmed up to go to the lovely 5 acres at East Fork again this summer,in fact,Rita and Jerry are looking forward to having them back, and they will go the last week of May,which is when all of the animals have to be off of the Susie Q. So,we know they are covered for at least the next year. Whew!!! Can’t wait to see their happiness when they get out of the trailer at Rita’s and see that they are back there—they do love it!! We are so very lucky to be able to have them in that beautiful place!!
I wonder what the temperature is in Dubai this time of year. Hope it’s not too hot for them to run and feel ok!!
Don’t you all love the videos of Zenny?? She is SO lovely,even hugely pregnant. Wish I had been so serene and beautiful when caarying my Dana. Good grief,in nine days,she will bge 54!!! How did that happen??? Seems like just a little while ago that she was born!!!!Some of you got to meet her at the BC–she sure is a special lady–she was so ggod growing up,I’m still waiting for her to go through the “terrible two’s!!! Guess maybe I’m safe now—-ya think??
Ann Maree,hope all goes well for you—we will all be praying!!! Heidi–hope all of your friends and family are doing better. May all who are troubled find solace here.
Zenny girl,have a peaceful night and dream of your little one to come. Hope your mom and dad will be able to be with you when the big day comes!!

Dear Sue:
I loved your story and the pucker factor on the Granny apples. Funny, Hoot did the same thing, so we’re back to golden delish or red delish. He has never quite figured out what to do with pears and it’s funny to watch him mouthing them. I’m glad the kids have a home for the next year too. That is always a worry. Hugs to you and Dana. No “terrible twos”? I think both of my sons got her share! Yikes!

Dear Sheena: I have a nephew living in London – he managed “to escape” (his words) to Townsville for a work related matter so he could see what sun looked like. Of course, I’m highly suspicious about these sort of “work meetings” but have heaps of sympathy for him with your l-o-n-g l-o-n-g winter. Hugs, KathyR.
PS: left a message to you in a comment to Max about Saloon – can’t find any information on him down here – anything up your way? And agree – the owners are very confused people. No wonder poor Peter Moody goes off sick.

Kathy R and Sheena. Here’s an old link from last summer of BC. I love her body suit and her leg guards. Also a great shot of her swimming. I think that she’s training with Saloon too in one part.
