Happy Friday!
We want to finish off the week with a few videos showing parts of Zenyatta’s daily routine. Alys’ footage shows her in the paddock, in her stall, and eating supper: the simple moments that make up the life of a happy and healthy horse!
Enjoy!

Peggy,
Glad you had a nice trip and visit w/ your handsome friend, Leroi. I enjoyed reading about your visit!
Peggy (N) South Georgia (PUR)
Dear Ann,
I did have a wonderful time. Janet I think said the perfect thing. Wouldn’t we just like to stow away at the farms. I know I would. Did you read in a later post i posted. They did give Leroi the pears I brought him. They put them in his feed bucket. They said he enjoyed them very much. They wouldn’t let me hand give them to him. As they regretfull said He loved to Bite. I understood completely. The Bucket, Yes much safer place. I thought Max too would especially like hearing about that ALA his Dynaformer..
Just love these Fiesty Stallions……………………….
Max
Peggy (N). Very glad to know that Leroi has a big personality. I just knew that he would appreciate his treats.

Just when I start missing my Big Girl, Alys and LE comes through with nothing less than videos!!!! How completely wonderful, Zenny, to see you looking so happy and muddy in the early Kentucky spring. And my, but you are carrying beautifully….unlike yours truly, who was a little like Moby Dick at this stage in her own pregnancy. LOL!
So nice to see all of my Dumplings on-site and in pace-pace-pace mode. After all, what’s a Queen’s Court all about anyway, right?
It will be so exciting to have another Zenny foal grace the 2013 Rites of Spring.
I love you, Zen. Sending you peppermint kisses all the way from Montreal.

Dear Zenyatta family
Left some news bits and bobs about Hay List, All Too Hard and Lauren (MOL jockey) on the other blog – felt uncomfortable posting “foreign” stuff on this blog – didn’t want to detract from the new videos and the beautiful shot up top of the magical Zenyatta. Love to all, Hugs KathyR.

dear max thanks for pic of our gorgeous kauto such a shame it had to rain on his parade am sure he enjoyed his carrot party with his friend supersteve last night (steve has to work this weekend)! did you hear about the irish amateur jockey JT McNamara who had a horrendous fall and is in an induced coma still in a very serious conditionso sad. Clifford baker’s son’s funeral is on Tuesday march 19th kauto’s 13th birthday neigh sheena
Max
Sheena. Kauto looks marvellous. They say that he is much sleeker than in his jumping days since being given a new diet. It seems to include Guinness. It is doing wonders for him. His coaching of Silvi however did not turn out well. Do you know if Silvi is okay after his fall? He seemed to get up pretty quickly.
I am concerned about JT. Hoping for a speedy recovery, and good news about him.
Getting a cake for Kauto’s birthday. Tasty has one the following week as does Stay Thirsty. Then there is Z on April 1. A whole lot of cake eating is involved in all of this.
Trina Nagele in So Cal --PUR
Max, are you working on that poem for Tasty? Or is the cake going to suffice?
Max
Trina. I was thinking of a poem for the birth of her new baby, but I may have to move it to her birthday. Tasty’s gone incommunicado lately.

JOYFUL VICTORY at Santa Anita “wins it easy,” “getting better with age, like a fine wine,” “two for two in 2013.” High hoof!
Max
Trina. She’s another beautiful gray. Stay Thirsty admired her from afar when Mo was wild for Awesome Maria. Glad to see this win.
Trina Nagele in So Cal --PUR
She is beautiful, isn’t she? Her name always make me think of our dear departed Kari Bussell.
Max
Trina. I agree. The word “joy” invariably brings Kari to mind. She was a truly remarkable woman, and has passed on her goodness to Ashton.

So happy for Joyful Victory and Rosie. Also Larry Jones. He was treated very badly by some people after the Eight Belles breakdown. It is good to see him back with good fillies and mares. It always hurts when one of these magnificant animals goes down but I cannot believe he would run an unsound horse. Have never heard anything bad about him as a trainer.

We had the honor of spending about 20 minutes with Queen Z when we visited Lane’s End last October on Keeneland opening weekend. We watch my videos over and over!
Please forgive me if this has been answered, but what is causing Z’s coat to “blotch” in the Suppertime with z video? Is it due to a change in seasons, or is “blotching” of coat typical of mares ready to foal? Thank you for the information!!
Keta
Mark
From what others have said and I agree, these are mud patches.
Zenyatta loves rolling in the mud. She probably hasn’t had her groom before eating.
So, no worries.

suew/Va
Mark, I canot imagine standing next to Zenny. It must have been a thrill of a lifetime for you.
Mark
Thank you Keta and suew/va! I can just see Queen Z rolling in the mud!
The first thing that hit me was how incredibly massive she is up close. It takes your breath away. She was everything that has been written about her – sweet, loves people, nuzzles and nickers, playful, pricks her ears at the sight of a camera, curious, loving and I could go on and on.
Even my Partner, who has never been a horse racing fan, said it was a thrill of a lifetime. For me, who has followed horse racing closely since childhood, it is among the 20 most precious minutes I shall remember for the rest of my life.

Mark. Thanks for this news. It is fun just to hear about your visit, something that you will never forget. Glad for you.

When one is in the presence of true greatness, the sense of awe never leaves. That is how I felt standing with her, feel now, and will always feel when thinking about our visit with Zenyatta. The staff at Lane’s End couldn’t have been more welcoming. I’m blessed to have someone with a connection to Mr. Farish who made this dream a reality.

Keta. I love Oxbow. He and Mike ran a great race, but Will Take Charge was on fire today. I’m very proud of Ox. At the very least, Ox picked up some valuable points for the Derby trail.
Great day for D. Wayne Lukas, who trained Big D. Big D was, according to Lukas, one of the most difficult horses that he had ever trained. Good ole Big D.
Keta
Max
One thing I noticed is that Oxbow seemed confused about which
lead he should be on in the stretch. He switched a couple of times.
Also, he has a tendency to run wide.
Each race is a learning experience for him.
Go Ox! Go Mike!
Hugs, Keta
Max
Keta. Yes, he seemed to be a bit unsure. It might also have been the quick turnaround from his last race, and he had a bullet run in the last practice. Some handicappers expected him to be tired. Next time. When I see Ox, I see Paynter. Cannot get over those two sisters who produced Paynter and Oxbow, Tizso and Tizamazing. They are also full sisters to the great Tiznow, a wonderful family.
Debbie G/Kentucky
Michele and Louise, your posts moved me to tears. You’re both in the right place. This is a very loving, caring group. You’re both in my thoughts and prayers.
Happy Birthday, Alex! Great poem again, Miss Trina!

Dear Max: Voila Ici returns this Wednesday to Sydney – think it’s Warwick Farm, but will keep you informed.

Kathy R. We have to keep track of BC’s known list of boyfriends. I notice that lately she’s been very quiet on that subject. Being the consummate professional, she’s probably too busy with her training.

@Shirleeinindy, I so agree about Larry Jones. He absolutely loves his fillies and we almost lost him as a trainer when he temporarily left racing due to his guilt over losing Eight Belles. Then, the chance to train Havre de Grace renewed his spirit and passion, and became another filly to win the HOY. So happy for him and Rosie who he truely respects and trusts. John does too obviously. Hey, would’t it be neat if Zenny is carrying another Joyful Victory?
Bobbie --- Elkhorn WI
Thanks for sharing the wonderful update on Zenyatta. She looks wonderful but impatient for the foaling. Hopeful for an easy delivery and a healthy momma and baby.

Well Zenny …I hollared as loud as I could for your Mikey and Ox….but TCI’s little brother just nabbed him at the end….but M and Ox were digging in to come back …I just know it….

@Max……Oxbow is really an impressive individual….lots of muscle…
….
The really strange thing was in the paddock…the one bouncing around was Delhomme…and he came in last…go figure

So Zenny….eat…sleep…exercise carefully….keep those spa appts …love you…

Jockey McNamara stable after neck surgery
Posted by: AAP Filled in: Australian Horse Racing | 17/3/2013 at 11:36am
Jockey JT McNamara is reported to be in a stable condition following surgery on the serious neck injury he sustained at Cheltenham on Thursday.
The 37-year-old was injured in a first-fence fall from Galaxy Rock in the Challenge Cup and was airlifted to hospital after being treated by the on-course medical staff.
Conscious following the fall according to officials at the track, the leading amateur rider was put in an induced coma before his transfer to hospital in Bristol.
McNamara underwent surgery on his fractured C3 and C4 vertebrae on Friday.
Dr Adrian McGoldrick, Irish Turf Club senior medical officer and Lisa Hancock, CEO of the Injured Jockeys Fund, have jointly issued a statement on behalf of the McNamara family.
“We can report that following lengthy surgery yesterday JT McNamara is in a stable condition,” the statement said.
“He remains in an induced coma at Frenchay Hospital, Bristol.
“No further updates will be released until Tuesday, March 19.”

What lovely videos of the Queen as she goes about her daily activities. There is something very calming about watching them and listening to the sounds of the birds and horses in the background. Thank you so much, Alys for sharing them with us!
Is it my imagination or does Z get more beautiful with each new picture and video of her? It seems as though the more of life she experiences, the more her beauty is revealed :)
