Happy Friday!
We want to finish off the week with a few videos showing parts of Zenyatta’s daily routine. Alys’ footage shows her in the paddock, in her stall, and eating supper: the simple moments that make up the life of a happy and healthy horse!
Enjoy!

Anita from SoCal
Hi Baby. I’ve missed you so. It’s so good to see you. Thanks Alys and everyone at Lane’s End for sharing with us.
Cindi
Beautiful..
Thanks..
donkeyhoteeee
Thank you so much for sharing with us! She is stil such a lovely mover, even so very pregnant. Best of best thoughts her way in the upcoming weeks! Thank you again Alys and Lane’s End.
kim
Thanks for the pictures !!Why does Zen’s coat have so many holes in it ?
Kathleen
Mud. She is just fine. You should see my gray mare……she’s a mud ball right now. They enjoy a good roll…..she is being allowed to be a horse.
Barbara Wood (Texas)
Oy! Our boy is a world-class roller! They love the mud (second only to food, I think!)
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Barb W.:
I think you’re right! Love and Hugs, JB

Thank you for the lovely pictures . Why is Zen’s coat in such bad shape?
Kim
Candi E. Carter
what’s wrong with her skin it look like ring worm it worried me ohh ZENNY take care yourself your eye not too glowing we love you dearly.
Kathleen
She went rolling in the mud…..horses really enjoy a good roll. She is just fine.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Yes, Candy she is fine. Just caked on Mud. We had a pond on our farm and my horses loved to go in the water and then come out and roll in the dirt. You should have seen them…………………….
Don’t know what the temp is in Lexington. Might still be cool. They may be a little reluctant to give her a bath.
LauraJ (Cincinnati, OH)
The issue of mud and baths came up on Winstar Stablemates. Someone asked why a very muddy mare wasn’t bathed or brushed. They replied that she would just roll again, and they don’t like for them to roll too much when they are close to delivery. They’re concerned that it might cause the fetus to shift position. Maybe Lane’s End has the same philosophy.
Candi E. Carter
I really worried with ZENNY coat oh ZENNY God blessed you always.

Dear Beautiful Queen Z and your wonderful company, I have been waiting anxiously for this beautiful day. I am the one that met Kari from Animals Rock 4 Love yrs. ago and got to see you in your last race at Louisville, Ky., What a beautiful creature you were and still are. I now have been diagnosed with cancer and am facing surgery March 20th and I really hope you have your baby by then, my thoughts and prayers are with you and I will be thinking of you as they put me under. You have been the light in the darkness of my life, and always will be, I have so many people that love you now. I have you on all the screensavers at work and the people that I check out ask if you are my horse and I say Yes, and then start with the story. I write your name on our business cards and to this day I would say you probably have a few hundred admirers from me but you always owned everyone baby girl from day one, I thank you for your effervescence and your will to give us all to live Kari included, I named your babies Queen Z’s Legacy, and Queen Z’s Perfection because I always want you to be remembered you sweet gorgeous creature, you brought me friends and life after my mother died. You will be dancing in my dreams forever, I will love you always, Michele.

Dearest Michele–you have brought me to tears. Your story could be mine, partly. Our grandhorse and Zenyatta gave me my life after losing my mom, too. Please know you are surrounded by loving Dumplings and will be covered in prayer. Please have someone post to give us updates. Love to you. You were so fortunate to have known our Kari.

stay strong…I am sure everyone here is with you and hoping for your return to health soon
Peggy (N) South Georgia (PUR)
Dear Michele, I will keep you in my prayers. I have faced Cancer Surgery as well. I would like to tell you something that someone told me. And it did help me very much. This is not Easy, (I would never tell anyone that) But IT IS DO-ABLE……………………
Don’t think about what is ahead, but just DO THE NEXT THING. Take each day as it comes I had Reconstruction Surgery as well.
Pray very hard to the Good Lord and Many Angels.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
I meant I would never tell anyone that it is easy. Just didn’t state that right.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio) PUR
Dear Michele,
Thinking of you at this difficult time. As everyone else has said, we are a very supportive crowd and will keep you in our prayers. Peggy’s advice above is well worth taking.
Sandy
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Thank You Sandy.
Just got my words a little wrong. It surely isn’t easy, but it is Do-able

Michele, you are another beautiful example of how Zenny has touched our lives. God Bless you as you face this huge challenge. I will pray that your health will be restored and you have peace of mind through it all. Kari will live in all our hearts forever. She brought so many of us to understand the magic of our Queen.

Michele,
God walk with you as you go into your surgery and see you safely through. Our Zenny has helped so many of us in our times of darkness. Like you, tuning in to the Blog every morning makes the day brighter for me. Be as positive as you can and know that all of us out in Z land are praying for you.

She looks great…muddy coat and all! I think she is one happy mare. Is that a little bit of softening around her tail..maybe??
Thank you so much for the video.
Robin LOVES Zenyatta
Thank you so much, Alys, for showing us our happy, happy, happy horse! Too bad we all can’t enjoy mud baths and playing in the field (although she is moving much slower these days). But it wasn’t that long ago that we saw a beautiful picture of her cantering in the snow :).
You really deserve all of the great care that is lavished upon you at LE. WE LOVE YOU QUEEN!!!! Filly or colt, grey or otherwise, we will all adore your new baby.

I am going through breast cancer and am scheduled for my third surgery then radiation. after I beat this and I will, one of the things I have on my bucket list is to see Lady Z. Is this a possibility? Do you allow people to see her? I want to so much. My other wish on my bucket wish is to get to the Kentucky Derby. hopefully someday I will. I love your horse she is one special Lady.

To Louise from Zenyatta:
Dear Louise, thank you so much for your kind words. I think YOU are one special lady too! You have the heart of a champion, and I’m sure you will come through your surgery and radiation with flying colors. Though visits are not permitted here at Lane’s End, my attendants will do their best to keep you up close and personal with me through this website. Please visit me often here, and let us all know how you are. Love and hugz, Z

Let me clarify–visits to the stallions at Lane’s End are permitted, but visits to the mares are not. Hugz, Trina

My mom had breast cancer too, and she told me that whenever she was going through her horrible patches, she thought of everything she loved, and held dear, and it got her through it. Hold your love for Big Z close, your family’s love close, and everything will be alright. You will call yourself a proud survivor soon, and you will be an inspiration to girls everywhere; who can do it!
Hey, once you are cancer free, we can all nominate you for the walk they have on Ketucky Oaks day, if you would like to go, of course. You can join the other Z dumplings who are proud survivors of cancer in representing us! Then, if you would like to, you can stay longer for the Derby the next day!
Sue Fredrick- Starting to pace
Dear Louise,
Sending prayers and hugs for you too. My dear friend had breast cancer and she is one of the survivors so keep a positive attitude because you can BEAT this. Keep us posted on your recovery. Sue

are you into “fantasy capping”?
Churchill Downs is going to run a contest…pick 6 horses …and see how they do..
it opens on their web site on 3/22…grand prize…vip trip to the derby…
I am going to try…maybe you can too…
Peggy (N) South Georgia (PUR)
Louise my Prayers are with you.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio) PUR
Dear Louise,
Sending good thoughts and prayers your way. I know what you mean about wishing to visit Zenyatta. When I heard she was moving “east” to take up her life as a broodmare, I had a few brief moments of thinking I would be able to visit her, but as Trina said above, that isn’t going to happen anytime soon. I figure I could still visit Lane’s End and see all of the beauty of that place and somehow she would know I was there :-)
Abigail_1849
Louise: You are such a brave woman and I admire your courage so much. You are truly a Zenyatta Dumpling — in the very best sense! I’m certain that there’s a way to connect with LE and/or others to arrange a visit once you’re ready. HUGS!
Marshall (NC broad)
Dear Louise,
Sincere thoughts and prayers for your well-being and a return to health. Keep up that positive attitude and fighting spirit — that is some of the most powerful medicine there is!
Please keep us posted on your progress — I know you can do this, but remember we are here for our Z’sters!
Michele Moore
Dear Louise, please know I am praying for you too. I would love to be able to touch Queen Z, You make it through your surgery and I am going to make it through mine so we can meet and go together to see her and her foals. I am so scared as I am sure you are too but I will be seeing that beautiful creature running and dancing as they put me to sleep. Hold on to this, I would love to meet you someday as I met Kari from Animals Rock 4 Love to see Zenyatta in her final race. Remember we have to come from behind to go to the front like Z., Love, Michele.

A Birthday Poem for Alex Bowdoin in Massachusetts
(March 16, 2013)
During this season of Lent,
Alex’s thoughts most days
Have been unerringly bent
Toward Z’s approaching blessed event,
Expected close to Easter.
When the birthing is done,
We Z-sters all will give praise
And into the ether
Shout our hurrays
For Zenyatta and her new little one!
Then we’ll find it unspeakably grand
When the foal first struggles to stand
Though it may of course promptly land
Back on its kiester!
Dear Alex Bowdoin,
The Z-sters together join
To wish you the happiest of birthdays,
Today, forever and always!
Happy birthday, Alex, and many, many more! And for those who would like to take another look, here’s a link to Alex’s poem from a year ago. https://staging.zenyatta.com/news/zs-baby-shower-at-santa-anita/comment-page-4#comment-144065

There’s nothing wrong with her coat. You should see my mares coat right now. It’s a mess!!! And keep in mind this is when the coats start the shedding process.

Thank you, Lane’s End, The Mosses, Alys and all of Team Z for sharing the wonderful photo and great videos with us!!! We are so very fortunate to still be included in this way in the life of our Queen. She still looks so beautiful even with her heavy body and mud-caked coat!! I love the paddock video when you can tell she becomes aware that she is being watched/filmed and she comes calmly over to the fence for her close-up!! I love this horse so much!!! Ever grateful!!

Our beautiful Zenyatta, looks like it is getting really close to your time! I see you are in the foaling barn part of Lane’s End! #SoExcited for 13Zenyatta

To all of you who are going to the Derby and/or like to look at cool Derby hats, the Finish Line Gift shop at the Derby museum is having a 50% off sale on hats. You can see all online. Since I am only 5’2″ big hats are not my thing but they are sure fun to see.

Thanks for the visual update. Z looks like she’s planning on a new foal very soon, maybe next week! I’ll guess March 20, the first day of spring.
