Happy Friday!
We want to finish off the week with a few videos showing parts of Zenyatta’s daily routine. Alys’ footage shows her in the paddock, in her stall, and eating supper: the simple moments that make up the life of a happy and healthy horse!
Enjoy!

Thank you Alys for showing us Zenny’s daily routines. She looks like being a horse makes her happy. Just love seeing her.

Second that comment, maryp – just terrific to see her so contented (mud and all).
Colleen Robbins
She looks like she is glowing! Mud and all. Love her. She is so happy, truly doing what she was meant to be a Majestic Mom. I’m going against the popular and saying a bay colt on March 30th. Guess from what I read the foal has a 50% chance of being grey, 25% of being a bay and 25% of being chestnut. Chestnut would be wonderful but for some reason I’m thinking he’ll look somewhat like his big brother but be a bit smaller at birth. Time will tell! Hope her full sibling arrives soon. :)
LauraJ (Cincinnati OH)
Chestnut is uncertain, because we don’t know for sure if Zenyatta carries Chestnut. She might, because both her sire and dam have produced chestnuts, but that’s no guarantee that she carries it. If she does, then she could produce a chestnut foal with Tapit. If she does not carry it, then no chestnut foal can result.
Diana Stuart - Pacing Pacing
LauraJ: Do you know if Tapit has sired any Bays out of Chestnut mares? Haven’t had time to look and see. That would give us the other color gene in his makeup. We know he has both one gene for grey and one for non-grey, and we know he has at least one for chestnut, but I’m curious if the other is a bay or chestnut gene.

I don’t think so. I looked at about half of the dams of his bays on Pedigreequery. Only one was listed as having a chestnut dam. But when I cross checked on Equineline there was no mare of her name and pedigree, and the supposed Tapit offspring wasn’t his either. So I assume not. I’ve tried looking at pictures of Tapit when he was young to see what his base coat might have been, but without success.

Yeah! Dk B/Br Colt…She is going to stamp this one too! Color, ears…

What a contrast (a wonderful one) of the racing days and now! I think about my visit with Z all the time. Can’t wait to hear about the new little one.
HeidiK Vallejo,Ca (lost in the drama)
What a nice surprise. She’s already getting a “bag” wow. That means, anytime now!! Also, can’t wait for your full sibling. Pace pace pace..
Karen Forehand
Awwww Zenny love the fact that you have mud on you, just being and average mare. Now I don’t feel so bad that my herd is dirty! We love you and look forward to hearing about Z13’s arrival.
Kathleen
Her belly isn’t pointy yet. They seem to come to a point in the hours before foaling, almost like the foal is getting into ‘diving’
position

You know I was waiting fornthatmlastnyear and it never seemed to happen. Now I could’ve been looking at older pics. It could’ve been that since it was Z’s first foal she didn’t get that downward pointed “V” that you spoke of.
The picture above reminds me of just before Z foaled. I know I enlarged the pic with emphasis on the teat area. (you can do that on an iPad). I’m seeing a bag but I can’t tell how full or what size it is. I cant see iff is there is any wax on the teats.
The wax acts like a plug to keep milk inside. Some mares will drip for weeks leading up to foaling. The problem with this is they lose all the colostrum for the baby. I’m sure LE’s has a colostrum bank. They are easy to set up and it doesn’t require nursemares. I can post an article I read about later on the forum if anyone’s interested.
Obviously you want the mare’s milk to come in before the baby’s born. But sometimes the milk doesn’t come in until just after the baby’s born. It’s always a relief to see the bag beforehand to alleviate that worry.
Patience you guys. With all the pacing everyone does Home Depot has no fear of going out of business! They can keep supplying the Z’ster with new carpets every couple years! Maybe you guys want to think about getting an inexpensive carpet special for worried pacing aunties–that are fairly inexpensive to replace…

I switched to big rugs. They are cheaper and easier to replace.

Thanks!

Oh my word, Mama, you need to drop soon!! LOL May God bless you with another very smooth & flawless delivery..and may it be a pewter-grey filly!!
Kelli
Well, it won’t be born pewter-gray, that I can promise! They never are. Baby will be born another color (bay, chestnut, brown, whatever) and then turn gray as it gets older. It also will not stay that shade of gray – eventually it’ll lighten to the point of being white, like Hansen!

When is her foal due? I keep watching for news. Too bad Lanes End doesn’t do the same as Winstar. I’d love to watch her foal.
Pass a hug an to her and Z12 for me please!
PatB from NM
Beautiful dirty girl! How hard was it to get up again after lying down in the mud? Can’t wait for the easy, no-drama delivery of your new baby. Love you always, Z.

Dear Lane’s End
Thank You so much for the new post and video’s. So So wonderful to see Zenyatta
Love Ya Zenny, Love Ya 12 Z
Pati- College Bound
Z looks a lot like Liddy’s mom did before she have birth to her. Of course, we thought it was a bulge from malnourishment, but since that is absolutely not the case here, it shouldn’t be too much longer. I wonder if it will have the “goggle eyes” when she/he is born. I used to get those all the time after swim practice and I looked like a raccoon or really really tired. Maybe I’ll shed out to white hair too. ;-) I’m losing a lot of hair from my head lately; maybe I’ll be grey too!
Jeanie
I love seeing her dirty…like she just rolled. Man, has she gotten big! Reminds me of my ninth month…ugh.

does her halter tag already say 13Z?
shirleeinindy
Wonder if she pays attention to the choir of birds that are singing in the barn. Are they singing for Zenyatta or for some of her supper. Truly spring in Kentucky.
