Happy Friday!
We want to finish off the week with a few videos showing parts of Zenyatta’s daily routine. Alys’ footage shows her in the paddock, in her stall, and eating supper: the simple moments that make up the life of a happy and healthy horse!
Enjoy!

Somebody’s been rolling in the mud.
Thanks for the videos!
Linda M
That is too funny – that was my thought exactly! Nothing like a little mud bath after the snow melts!!
Catherine Frazier
There’s an advantage to being a 17 hand mare: even when you are heavy in foal, you don’t look terribly uncomfortable!
I love the first video—”Are you ready to come in?” Such a smart girl to be able to communicate so well with her people.
When is the foal due?
John Kaiser
Looking like a healthy mom. We are all excited about the coming event.
Especially Horses / So Cal
Thank you again and again and again…Alys is your camera ready for that first baby photo op?
Kiauna
Wow! Still as gorgeous as ever. :) I can’t wait to see her new foal, it’s far too exciting! Congrats Z, I’m glad you’re happy where you are!
Darlene Daniels
Thank you, thank you Lanes End. Great videos of our beautiful girl. She looks wonderful.
Alys, I saw a camera just like yours in a store today. Showed it to my husband, he said “Oh, that looks really nice, but your not getting one” ha ha. Have a great day everybody.
Rose McCutcheon
Wow, I love Zenyatta when is her due date I forgot anytime ? She sure lost her georgous slick racing figure…Oh well, thats motherhood for ya…love the Queen forever.
Margaret
We were never told. Part of the fun is the anticipation! And the Moss’s like doing things the “old fashion” wy so the baby wasn’t fetal sex.
Best suggestion? KEEP CHECKING! Just don’t wear out the flooring and/or carpet!
Especially Horses / So Cal
Someone on the Forum stated that today is Vertigineux’s due date. Wow, wouldn’t it be something if V and Z foaled on the same day?
Heather
I think it would be so cool if V foaled her baby on Z’s birthday!
Especially Horses / So Cal
That would be special too.
Eveline / Maryland.
I wonder why her screen is closed, preventing her from looking out?
Margaret
I don’t know what to think. Last year I could sworn that she wasn’t ready to foal. Her tummy looked liked it hadn’t really dropped. I see her tummy about the same. She has milk coming in but how much I have no idea. You can see her teats in the above picture…
I know it’s gonna be sooner rather than later. She’s huge!
With everyone clamping for this and that–I think the going consensus is a filly and preferably dapple gray. Alleles and so forth are way above me. I’ll be happy for a nice happy healthy baby.
But given that everyone wants a gray (or a lot of folks)how about a little one that looks just like the horse Aspercel from the Disney movie The Horse n the Gray Flannel Suit? Can’t think of his real name. And other than silly Disney writing the movie itself isn’t so bad.
I’m beginning to wonder which means pacing isn’t to far off from me too…
Kelli
Well, if it is a gray, it won’t be born gray and it won’t stay gray. :) It’ll be born another color (bay, brown, chestnut, whatever) and turn gray as it gets older. It might have dapples when it ages, but eventually it’ll be white – like Hansen!
kathleen
or flea bitten. it seems as they age they get more flea bitten. You can usually tell when they’re born if they’ll gray out. There are tiny white hairs on their eyelids, and in the case of chestnuts, if the area around the eye is black, they will gray out, if pinkish, they will stay chestnut. Black horses are usually born the color of pencil lead with a silvery sheen about them. If they’re born jet black, they will almost always turn gray.

You are beautiful, oh gravid one!

Isn’t she though? I love that word!

Thank you Alys!!!
I just loved spending time with you Zenny and getting to eat dinner together was really special.
She is HUGE. I’m hoping it’s 3/24, and I think it will be a bay filly. They can name her after me Sue Z Cue. Ha, Ha.
Thank you Judy B for the early birthday wishes on last post.
Peggy it sounds like you had a grand time on your visit to the farm. Its just so great to see these beautiful horses, I hope to get back to Kentucky, and LE later this year.
By the way if you go to http://www.facebook.com/sorry.php?msg=account and click on photos you can spend lots of time going through all kinds of pics of horses they’ve bred and raised. I was tickled pink to go all the way back to summer 2011 and found pics of my A P INDY when he sold at Keeneland and after racing when he came back to stand at LE. He was magnificient. All kinds of pics of their stallions and many, many foal pics. Everyone will love it. Hope you take the time to enjoy.

Thank You, I did have a wonderful time.

Curious as to why the halter is left on while she eats her dinner? She is looking great! When is the baby due?
Kelli
I’m assuming they leave the halter on all the time at this point just in case they need to do something with her at a moment’s notice. It’s a lot easier to handle a distressed mare when she already has a halter on than it is to have to get the halter on first and then do what you have to do.

Oh Zenyatta, I hope you can feel all our love for you and that bundle of preciousness you are carrying. Love seeing you in these updates, sweet girl. Thanks Alys.

I LOVE these videos, even if they only show Zenyatta just doing the simple things. Makes me feel like I’m in touch with Big Mama Z. It’s getting so close for baby Z! I’m gonna be a grandma again! ;-) Thanks for taking the time to post the vids of our girl!
Marilyn Lane
It’s good to see her once again. Thank you for the video’s! She is definitely a momma now, but I miss her so much! Praying for a good birth and a healthy strong baby! Give her hugs for me!

LOVE seeing the Queen!
Barbara Wood (Texas)
Wow! What a treat to be “up close and personal” with our dear girl. Thank you, Alys!!!
Zenny–I would love to be right there with you, stroking your soft nose and telling you all will be well soon.
@Eveline–I’m not sure (someone can correct me if i’m wrong), but I believe there is an open “V” in the middle of the stall door where they can get their heads out.
Back to pacing…….in earnest now……
Sandy (Northeast Ohio) PUR
For whatever reason, I don’t think that they have the “V” in the foaling barn. I’m sure that someone will enlighten us.
Trina Nagele in So Cal --PUR
In the video, there was a V, but it was latched shut, I believe.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Alys, Lane’s End Team and Z Fans:
You’ve got windows all around the following barn stalls, so nothing will go unseen.
Z looks close to foaling and these videos are about two weeks old. Can’t be too much longer now.
Thank you for letting us have a look at Z’s daily routine. Love our girl. Hugs, JB

That other mare in the field looks like a pony next to Zenyatta!
Mary in Boone
Zenyatta, you look so content!! I love that look you give when asked if you are ready to come in and then that gaze. The look was at Alys…was the gaze toward the barn? You are so very intelligent. Rolling in the mud and feeling the sun on your withers…what fun at Lane’s End. Looks like you are going to have plenty of milk for our Prinzess!!!
You receive the best of care, and I know Mr. & Mrs. Moss will be present too. We wish we could be there too, but your godparents will have to keep their distance. Just know our thoughts and prayers are washing over you and Baby Z13.
Alys, I can’t find adequate words to let you know how much these videos brighten my Friday. Thank you!!!!
Take care everyone,
Pace carefully,
Mary in Boone

Thank you for the videos Team Z.

She looks great! I particularly love how muddy she is… she earned the right to just be a horse.

Zenny is such a smart girl she know each time that people are taking photo’s , Just like when she was racing .. Love you Zenny
