Happy Thursday,
We have a very special post for you today! Cozmic One has been training in New York with John Shirreffs, and today’s post is an update on his progress–straight from Dottie and John!
Enjoy!
-Team Z
Greetings from Barn 41—Belmont Park, New York!
Hello Everyone,
We hope each of you is doing very well. Everything here is moving right along. It is a beautiful fall day in New York and we thought it would be fun to share a COZMIC ONE update with you.
Coz is a big, strong, handsome colt! He loves to train and and enjoys going to the race track. He exhibits high energy levels and shows great strength and endurance. Another quality John comments about often is his intelligence. He’s a very smart colt, another trait he definitely shares with his Mother.
Physically, it is quite interesting to note how his body is changing and maturing as a result of his exercise and training program. Coz is developing a very strong shoulder and a long length of stride, two physical qualities John so admired in Zenyatta as she prepared for racing. Needless to say, it is exciting to see her colt developing them as well.
Each day’s lessons builds upon the prior skills taught. Coz has breezed a ½ mile in company twice galloping out with energy, as well as working on his starting gate lessons. He’s currently jogged out of the gate twice and will continue to do more gate work as he gets closer to running. Physically and mentally, Coz is developing a very solid foundation in all skills so necessary for his future career as a racehorse.
Cozmic One is a very busy guy each day. Here’s this morning:
5:30 a.m. Coz is up and looking out of his stall ready to begin his day. He is hand-walked for about 30 minutes each morning.
6:00 a.m. Coz is now back in his stall and gets brushed and ready for his breakfast. He loves to eat!
8:15 a.m. He is tacked up and ready to walk to the paddock to begin his exercise on the main track. At Belmont Park, it is a long walk from our barn to the paddock and Coz enjoys doing this. It helps him ‘warm up’ and he gets a chance to see everything going on and experience all types of noises and sounds that happen at the race track. Once in the paddock, he walks around, stands in a saddling stall for a bit, and gets to experience this environment.
8:45 a.m. Coz leaves the paddock to walk through the tunnel to the main track. Once on the main track, he stands for a few minutes and then walks to the 1 ¼ pole (Belmont is a 1 ½ mile oval), turns and jogs to the ⅞ pole, and then gallops 1 ½ miles at a very good pace.
He then stands for a few moments preparing to leave the main track and begin his walk back to the barn.
10:15 a.m. Once back at the barn, Coz continues to cool out by walking around the shed row. He has a bath and returns to his stall for further grooming.
11:00 a.m. IT’S LUNCH TIME! This is truly one of his favorite times of the day! Coz is definitely a good eater who has a very good appetite. One of his favorite treats are the Apple Cookies the Mosses send to the barn for him and his pals. He absolutely LOVES them!
It is so special having Coz in the barn. Having worked with Zenyatta and having her with us each day for so many years, it is a complete JOY to get to know her son so intimately and work with him every day. As John commented last night, “At this time, I could not be more pleased with his progress.”
As Zenyatta would say, this is TOO CUTE! Without a doubt, she would be very proud of him!
Have a wonderful week!
With Love,
Hugs to all~
Coz, John and Dottie

Dear Sheena
Thank-you,we are all doing fine.
Sheena and Z Family
It is very wet here and we got the rain sheets out for Ash.I have visited him several times this week.Yesterday he had a mighty rolll in the front paddock and little gallops when he got up.He has enjoyed his grass walks and had work done on his stall this week. It is wet in his paddock and I have asked for additional footing..He LOVES his grass as usual and is VERY keen to go, as you know. His enthusiasm has not got the better of him and he has been putting his nose like flash lightening into the halter first try every time lately(he did miss the hole once in his exuberance as you may remember). He knows where the good grass is and has his favourite spots. I am happy he is walking really well and listening to me/ my body and stops when I stop, walks at a nice pace on the way home and is so helpful trying to subdue his excitement on the way out. I appreciate how gentle he is almost always,I have to anticipate sometimes when he gets that look in his eye for grass. We aunties help the barn manager and check to see Ash has both buckets of water in his stall full as he MUST have them ready for dunking when the hay arrives!!! Oh the joy!!lHe has another water just outside his stall for drinking. He is enjoying rides with his aunties very much,we share our stories and stay in touch.I am so happy we are a team for one very special boy! He winnies when I come down and I feel like the luckiest person in the world.
Tully is great ,loves new adventures too.Often walk by the river or in the woods.Took her to a dog park nearby twice this week and she loves the dogs there.Penney (Rhodesian Ridgeback) and Cassey (Bernese Mtn. Dog) are two of her favourites. Penney is a gentle giant and Tully chases and wrestles with her and stands with her paws on Penney’s back smiling from ear to ear. Cassey and Tully just hang out sniffing beside eachother and run occasionally. When I take her to the shops Tully thinks she is going to get a treat EVERYWHERE! We went to get my driver’s insurance today and she sat with chest ready to pop, head up with the biggest smile-but alas,no cookies.I gave her one so as not to disappoint. The bank staff knows her by name and that is a sure bet for cookies and some cuddles.
I am starting to feel better slowly but surely, disc injuries take time-and rest, which is hard to do. I walk well but it hurts to sit and this post is done in small bits at a time.
It is my daughter Megs birthday this weekend-34!! She is coming over tomorrow and then will be away to Whistler Mtn.to celebrate. Tully and I will pop in to see Mr. Ash later tomorrow and make sure to take some treats. He will have his usual trail ride on Sunday with his herd and loves that.( 4 other horses-smile).
Greetings to all,stay well.
Saying prayers constantly for sweet Dubai.

Miracles of Life, aka Barbie returns to the track a winner!
Barbie dead-heated the 1100m Perri Cutten Sprint at Caulfield (Melbourne) today with Bel Sprinter. It was a typical brave go to the front run from Barbie, who is now in the care of Peter and Paul Snowden.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Kathy R:
Congrats to Barbie and all her connections. Stonestreet must be thrilled. Love and Hugs, JB

KathyR,
Thank you for the post about Barbie. I had not seen anything about her and didn’t know is she was still at home or had made the journey to Stonestreet in Kentucky.
Especially Horses / So Cal
Wow. I had no idea that MOL had become a Stonestreet girl.
Kathy R how do you feel about that? Is the plan to have her come to the states for her broodmare career?
KathyR
Dear Especially Horses:
I’m really pleased Stonestreet left Barbie (MOL) in the care of Peter and Paul Snowden – they are two of the really great caring trainers Downunder and always put the horse first. Peter used to be the Australian trainer for Darley until his son Paul wanted to try training as a team. Great Dad he pulled up stumps on one of the best training jobs in the world to follow his son’s dream. And they’re doing really well. As far as Barbie’s broodmare career, from what I hear via you folk Stonestreet is a good place so she will be looked after. Always feel sad when they retire as broodmares though because it’s rare to hear anything about them. I also feel really sorry for Darren Clarken her first trainer in Adelaide who lost the horse when she was sold, and of course Lauren her Blue Diamond winning jockey who hasn’t been the same since Barbie left the stable. Bittersweet I guess. Cheers KathyR
shirleeinindy
KathyR,
If Barbie comes to Stonestreet she will be very happy after she adjusts to the Southern accents! It is a beautiful farm staffed by caring people and Barbara Banke loves all her Golden Girls. (Stonestreet’s colors here are primarily golden, hence Golden Girls.) Don’t know if they race in the same colors “down under.”

October 18 Cherokee Devotional
Friends are those who forgive you-they have to if they are going to be friends. It is there somewhere among all the unwritten laws that a friend is someone you can rely on when there’s no word, no kept promise, no outward sign of ali i, which is friendship to the Cherokee. We can forget a friend’s birthday-and we can’t say that about anyone else. We can tell them our deepest, darkest thoughts and they will take us to lunch. We may mistake them as our keeper-but we never, never mistake them for someone ordinary. The hardest lesson we have to learn is that everyone is not a friend. Not everyone sees us as a child at times, needing support and comfort. But a friend sees all and says nothing-until the right time. And even then we are forgiven.
Waupaypay and I in those days called each other brother-friend. It was a life and death vow; what one does the other must do…

Kathy
Dear Sheena,
I thought about you when I read the name of today’s Chief. Very appropriate! lol Estimate was so impressive, hoping for a good transition into retirement. You have to wonder about stewards’ decisions sometimes! Cindy is such a darling little dog. So glad she gets her Freedom Wheels soon! Kudos to Mango for seeing the need and doing something about it. Hope Judy can take a nap today. She was up awfully early being a good furbaby mom! Congratulations to Gordon Lord Byron! It’s like we still have Joey with us reading his messages from last year. So glad the little black kitten got a home. Poor little Fubu. His mouth is so sore all the time. Life is a struggle for him. Loved Gizmo’s video with the kids. He’s such an adorable little guy. Would love to see him and Zoe together! That’s great that Lily’s mom is getting a new pup. The new puppy certainly couldn’t ask for a better mommy! Have a wonderful Saturday. Dear Max, Sheena, Peggy, Ann, Marshall, Debbie S, Sandy, Kathy R, Sue Fredrick, Barb W, Pam, Shirlee, Vicki B, Elizabeth and Z Fans: (Hope I didn’t forget anyone)
I want to thank you for your prayers for Dubai. We think he’s finally turned the
corner on his way back to excellent health. Angela called a little while ago and
said that he was standing up this morning in his stall, very alert and bearing
weight really well on his front feet for the first time since this whole thing
started. It’s exactly one month today that he’s been at the farm. There is one
more area of tenderness on the right front that appears to be another abscess
site. Angela will keep a close watch on that. He is outside now on a lead rope
being hand grazed for the first time in almost a month. Angela is The Best! He
is still on pain meds, so we will be out of the woods completely when he can do
without that. Thank you from my heart. Heading over to visit him in a little while.
Thank you all so very much for your prayers and thank God and St. Francis. Love and Hugs, JB
Elizabeth in NM
Judy, this is wonderful news about Dubai. Know he’s not out of the woods yet, but a step toward his recovery. Wish there was a lounge chair for horses, so they could ‘put their feet up’! Angela sounds like such a wonder! Love and praying for God’s many blessings for you all – esp. Dubai, Elizabeth
