Happy Thursday,
We have a very special post for you today! Cozmic One has been training in New York with John Shirreffs, and today’s post is an update on his progress–straight from Dottie and John!
Enjoy!
-Team Z
Greetings from Barn 41—Belmont Park, New York!
Hello Everyone,
We hope each of you is doing very well. Everything here is moving right along. It is a beautiful fall day in New York and we thought it would be fun to share a COZMIC ONE update with you.
Coz is a big, strong, handsome colt! He loves to train and and enjoys going to the race track. He exhibits high energy levels and shows great strength and endurance. Another quality John comments about often is his intelligence. He’s a very smart colt, another trait he definitely shares with his Mother.
Physically, it is quite interesting to note how his body is changing and maturing as a result of his exercise and training program. Coz is developing a very strong shoulder and a long length of stride, two physical qualities John so admired in Zenyatta as she prepared for racing. Needless to say, it is exciting to see her colt developing them as well.
Each day’s lessons builds upon the prior skills taught. Coz has breezed a ½ mile in company twice galloping out with energy, as well as working on his starting gate lessons. He’s currently jogged out of the gate twice and will continue to do more gate work as he gets closer to running. Physically and mentally, Coz is developing a very solid foundation in all skills so necessary for his future career as a racehorse.
Cozmic One is a very busy guy each day. Here’s this morning:
5:30 a.m. Coz is up and looking out of his stall ready to begin his day. He is hand-walked for about 30 minutes each morning.
6:00 a.m. Coz is now back in his stall and gets brushed and ready for his breakfast. He loves to eat!
8:15 a.m. He is tacked up and ready to walk to the paddock to begin his exercise on the main track. At Belmont Park, it is a long walk from our barn to the paddock and Coz enjoys doing this. It helps him ‘warm up’ and he gets a chance to see everything going on and experience all types of noises and sounds that happen at the race track. Once in the paddock, he walks around, stands in a saddling stall for a bit, and gets to experience this environment.
8:45 a.m. Coz leaves the paddock to walk through the tunnel to the main track. Once on the main track, he stands for a few minutes and then walks to the 1 ¼ pole (Belmont is a 1 ½ mile oval), turns and jogs to the ⅞ pole, and then gallops 1 ½ miles at a very good pace.
He then stands for a few moments preparing to leave the main track and begin his walk back to the barn.
10:15 a.m. Once back at the barn, Coz continues to cool out by walking around the shed row. He has a bath and returns to his stall for further grooming.
11:00 a.m. IT’S LUNCH TIME! This is truly one of his favorite times of the day! Coz is definitely a good eater who has a very good appetite. One of his favorite treats are the Apple Cookies the Mosses send to the barn for him and his pals. He absolutely LOVES them!
It is so special having Coz in the barn. Having worked with Zenyatta and having her with us each day for so many years, it is a complete JOY to get to know her son so intimately and work with him every day. As John commented last night, “At this time, I could not be more pleased with his progress.”
As Zenyatta would say, this is TOO CUTE! Without a doubt, she would be very proud of him!
Have a wonderful week!
With Love,
Hugs to all~
Coz, John and Dottie

Like so many others here, I have been truely blessed over the years to have my life enriched by knowing Zenyatta’s “family”. She is all around me with items purchased from the gift shop. Reading Dottie’s oh so familiar phrases about Coz brought the same sweet tears associated with his Mom. All of you represent all that the horse industry should be…putting the welfare of these magnificent horses first, and of course spoiling them with lots of love and special treats. I had a feeling today that I needed to check-in about Coz and as usual was rewarded. Saying thank you just does not seem to be sufficient.

DOTTIE & JOHN & COZ:
HOW GREAT WAS THIS POST! It was fabulous hearing these special details about a colt I’ve followed since he was merely a gleam in his Mama’s eye. I’m really pleased to hear that he’s developing BOTH physically AND mentally. And it’s special to know what qualities he’s inherited from ZENNY THE GREAT.
But perhaps MOST of all, it was special hearing your voice, Dottie (on behalf of John and Coz). It makes me hearken back to the days of Zenny’s Diary and all the time and care you took with us, as well as all the love that flowed across these pages.
SO….Let me be THE FIRST CANADIAN to wish you & John a blissful Thanksgiving. As you raise your glasses, please know that you are two wonderful people that I am so thank-full for!
With love & hugs

Dear Dottie, John, Coz.
Oh my goodness, This is just wonderful hearing from you today. So So happy to hear from you. Dottie I got to meet David at the sale in Ocala a year or two ago and I told him I sure hoped we got to hear from you again one day on the blog.. This couldn’t have been a better day now. Love You All.
John I am so glad Coz is with you. Wouldn’t want him with any other trainer. Make Coz behave himself. I got to see a little bit of his fiestyness in Ocala. Just loved it. You know he has to be a little fiesty
Dear Coz, OK dear boy. Just love you dearly. Remember the Card I read to you. I meant every word of it. Prayers for the good lord and many angels to look after you always. You were so great and listened to me intently read you my card.
Coz please listen, I have another favorite young 2 year old gelding that is racing at Belmont just tomorrow in Race 3. His name is NIGHT PROWLER. It’s only his 2nd race ever. He’s being ridden by Javiar Costellano. I’m really really worried about him. I know Javiar will do his very best to take care of him. I’m sending many prayers his way. But maybe you could give him a good luck Winny. Love Ya Coz
This has made my day.
Go My Boy NIght Prowler. Want rest untill I know you got back off the track safely. GodSpeed

Thank you Dottie and John (and the Mosses) for the extra effort you go to, to allow us to keep up with what is happening with the Zenyatta family.

oh beyond delight to hear about Coz’s day, and it does bring back memories of Dottie’s journal for Zenyatta. That was such a gift, as I was hard letting go of Zenyatta’s racing days, and the journal entries helped so many of use with the transition. love you all

October 17 Cherokee Devotional
No one is so destined to lose that he cannot turn the tide-if he wants to change. Overcoming requires us to put our shoulders to the wheel in ways we would not have considered in earlier times. We are greatly influenced by our beliefs about ourselves and whether we are supposed to win or lose. The Great Spirit always wants us to win. It is our indecisiveness that keeps things wavering. There is nothing wrong with winning-and believing we can is a good thing. The question, a dv dv hv s gi, is not of the Spirit-Creator, but of us. Love wraps us around with peace and healing, with eagerness to do great things. But we have to free ourselves to do it.
Brother, you say there is one way to worship and serve the Great Spirit. If there is but one Religion, why do you…differ so much about it?

Thanks to Dottie, John, the Mosses and all of Team Coz for the update and pictures. Our little Coz is growing into quite a smart big boy. After all the sad news, it was wonderful to sign on this morning to happy things. So glad they are holding him back and not sending him to race as early as some 2 year olds start out.
Zenny you did quite a job with this boy!
