Happy Thursday,
We have a very special post for you today! Cozmic One has been training in New York with John Shirreffs, and today’s post is an update on his progress–straight from Dottie and John!
Enjoy!
-Team Z
Greetings from Barn 41—Belmont Park, New York!
Hello Everyone,
We hope each of you is doing very well. Everything here is moving right along. It is a beautiful fall day in New York and we thought it would be fun to share a COZMIC ONE update with you.
Coz is a big, strong, handsome colt! He loves to train and and enjoys going to the race track. He exhibits high energy levels and shows great strength and endurance. Another quality John comments about often is his intelligence. He’s a very smart colt, another trait he definitely shares with his Mother.
Physically, it is quite interesting to note how his body is changing and maturing as a result of his exercise and training program. Coz is developing a very strong shoulder and a long length of stride, two physical qualities John so admired in Zenyatta as she prepared for racing. Needless to say, it is exciting to see her colt developing them as well.
Each day’s lessons builds upon the prior skills taught. Coz has breezed a ½ mile in company twice galloping out with energy, as well as working on his starting gate lessons. He’s currently jogged out of the gate twice and will continue to do more gate work as he gets closer to running. Physically and mentally, Coz is developing a very solid foundation in all skills so necessary for his future career as a racehorse.
Cozmic One is a very busy guy each day. Here’s this morning:
5:30 a.m. Coz is up and looking out of his stall ready to begin his day. He is hand-walked for about 30 minutes each morning.
6:00 a.m. Coz is now back in his stall and gets brushed and ready for his breakfast. He loves to eat!
8:15 a.m. He is tacked up and ready to walk to the paddock to begin his exercise on the main track. At Belmont Park, it is a long walk from our barn to the paddock and Coz enjoys doing this. It helps him ‘warm up’ and he gets a chance to see everything going on and experience all types of noises and sounds that happen at the race track. Once in the paddock, he walks around, stands in a saddling stall for a bit, and gets to experience this environment.
8:45 a.m. Coz leaves the paddock to walk through the tunnel to the main track. Once on the main track, he stands for a few minutes and then walks to the 1 ¼ pole (Belmont is a 1 ½ mile oval), turns and jogs to the ⅞ pole, and then gallops 1 ½ miles at a very good pace.
He then stands for a few moments preparing to leave the main track and begin his walk back to the barn.
10:15 a.m. Once back at the barn, Coz continues to cool out by walking around the shed row. He has a bath and returns to his stall for further grooming.
11:00 a.m. IT’S LUNCH TIME! This is truly one of his favorite times of the day! Coz is definitely a good eater who has a very good appetite. One of his favorite treats are the Apple Cookies the Mosses send to the barn for him and his pals. He absolutely LOVES them!
It is so special having Coz in the barn. Having worked with Zenyatta and having her with us each day for so many years, it is a complete JOY to get to know her son so intimately and work with him every day. As John commented last night, “At this time, I could not be more pleased with his progress.”
As Zenyatta would say, this is TOO CUTE! Without a doubt, she would be very proud of him!
Have a wonderful week!
With Love,
Hugs to all~
Coz, John and Dottie

Thank you so much for the update. I’m such a Zenyatta fan and so interested in the future of her offspring. Cosmic looks handsome and so well taken care by your team. It is thrilling to read that he is an intelligent guy and that he is enjoying his life and working well. Can’t wait to see this colt on the track.

I am “over the moon” to hear about our Cozmic One from John and Dottie!! Thank you so much for personally giving us this update on his progress and about the wonderful traits he has inherited from Z and B (can’t forget dad). I don’t have any knowledge of how others train youngsters like him but I do know that Zenyatta grew to be a champion with John’s training process (even though he said she trained him!) Coz is his own individual. Here’s to sound health and success!
Love & hugs to Team Z, Dottie, John and all Zsters,
Maryp

Great article, since his birthday I’ve seen pictures but no stories of his day to day activities. I am hoping to see future posts updating his workouts and training. It almost feels like I am on the backside with him. Great job and please keep us posted. I am also like many awaiting his maiden race with great anticipation.

Oh my Goodness!!! This new blog post just absolutely makes my day!!! It is so heart lifting to see the photos and read the words of praise as well as learn about the daily routine of our wonderful prince Coz. Thank you so very much for continuing to share with us the lives of Zenyatta and her beautiful offspring, all of whom we treasure so deeply. I wish I could more clearly express how much this means to me but all I can come up with is another Thank You. I feel blessed.

Cozmic One is definitely his mother’s son ! If he starts a pre-race “dance” , that will be the kicker.
What traits has he inherited from his daddy? When will he run his first race?
GO, COZ !!

OMG what a fabulous update…thank you so much Dottie and John for sharing Coz’s day. He is growing into a very fine looking colt…so much like his mom and dad.
John, I so much love your approach to training…building those muscles is so very important. As much as I look forward to his racing, please continue to bring him along slowly!
Thanks again for this amazing update.

Dottie, so GREAT to hear from you, takes me back to the start of this whole adventure, which we all so enjoyed. CoZ sounds magnificent, he has all the wonderful attributes of Zenny and Bernie, it’s impressive to hear it from John especially. He is so beautiful and I know only John can do him justice. Loved hearing about his daily routine, he’s kept busy, but I think he’s that type of horse, very active. Looking forward to seeing and hearing more about him. hugs

So sorry for the loss of Endearing last Thursday. We never got to know her, but all the same, it must be awful for you and her other connections. You and the Mosses are in our thoughts and prayers.

There it is Zenny fans…and right from the master who understands the Zenyatta family better than any of them. Coz appears to be the image of his mother having so many of her wonderful traits. We are so excited reading this report and hope to see Coz in person when he begins his racing career on the track. God Bless all of Team Z!
And especially the Queen who gifted Coz with so many stellar attributes.

I could not be more excited hearing this news about our Coz. He sure is taking after his fabulous mom. John knows him better than any member of Team Z and his comments make me very hopeful. Thanks Team Z for this news.
