Happy Thursday,
We have a very special post for you today! Cozmic One has been training in New York with John Shirreffs, and today’s post is an update on his progress–straight from Dottie and John!
Enjoy!
-Team Z
Greetings from Barn 41—Belmont Park, New York!
Hello Everyone,
We hope each of you is doing very well. Everything here is moving right along. It is a beautiful fall day in New York and we thought it would be fun to share a COZMIC ONE update with you.
Coz is a big, strong, handsome colt! He loves to train and and enjoys going to the race track. He exhibits high energy levels and shows great strength and endurance. Another quality John comments about often is his intelligence. He’s a very smart colt, another trait he definitely shares with his Mother.
Physically, it is quite interesting to note how his body is changing and maturing as a result of his exercise and training program. Coz is developing a very strong shoulder and a long length of stride, two physical qualities John so admired in Zenyatta as she prepared for racing. Needless to say, it is exciting to see her colt developing them as well.
Each day’s lessons builds upon the prior skills taught. Coz has breezed a ½ mile in company twice galloping out with energy, as well as working on his starting gate lessons. He’s currently jogged out of the gate twice and will continue to do more gate work as he gets closer to running. Physically and mentally, Coz is developing a very solid foundation in all skills so necessary for his future career as a racehorse.
Cozmic One is a very busy guy each day. Here’s this morning:
5:30 a.m. Coz is up and looking out of his stall ready to begin his day. He is hand-walked for about 30 minutes each morning.
6:00 a.m. Coz is now back in his stall and gets brushed and ready for his breakfast. He loves to eat!
8:15 a.m. He is tacked up and ready to walk to the paddock to begin his exercise on the main track. At Belmont Park, it is a long walk from our barn to the paddock and Coz enjoys doing this. It helps him ‘warm up’ and he gets a chance to see everything going on and experience all types of noises and sounds that happen at the race track. Once in the paddock, he walks around, stands in a saddling stall for a bit, and gets to experience this environment.
8:45 a.m. Coz leaves the paddock to walk through the tunnel to the main track. Once on the main track, he stands for a few minutes and then walks to the 1 ¼ pole (Belmont is a 1 ½ mile oval), turns and jogs to the ⅞ pole, and then gallops 1 ½ miles at a very good pace.
He then stands for a few moments preparing to leave the main track and begin his walk back to the barn.
10:15 a.m. Once back at the barn, Coz continues to cool out by walking around the shed row. He has a bath and returns to his stall for further grooming.
11:00 a.m. IT’S LUNCH TIME! This is truly one of his favorite times of the day! Coz is definitely a good eater who has a very good appetite. One of his favorite treats are the Apple Cookies the Mosses send to the barn for him and his pals. He absolutely LOVES them!
It is so special having Coz in the barn. Having worked with Zenyatta and having her with us each day for so many years, it is a complete JOY to get to know her son so intimately and work with him every day. As John commented last night, “At this time, I could not be more pleased with his progress.”
As Zenyatta would say, this is TOO CUTE! Without a doubt, she would be very proud of him!
Have a wonderful week!
With Love,
Hugs to all~

I think I am going to pass out, I just got some “Unbelievable” news from Ashford/Coolmore just now! She just emailed me to let me know that Z’s full brother is at…..Mayberry Farm where Ziconic is. I had sent her pic’s of Z and all the foals and mentioned that the Moss’ always send their horses there. At that time they weren’t sure where he would go in Ocala. This is too cool. Ziconic is running around with his Uncle!

Have been wondering about our Dear Lava Man. Has anyone heard anything about him lately. Worry when I don’t hear anything. Wonder if he’s still going in the feed bin by hisself. Love this great horse. He’s such a charactor.

OMG, Thank You so much. Wonderful Article. He is such a Gem. Just love him. So hope we get to see him at the Breeders Cup this year. He can Pony over one of the youngsters. At one time Old Friends thought they were going to get him, but I can surely understand why Doug O’Neill didn’t want to let him go. He’s a treasure.

Dear Peggy:
He really has a great personality. Love and Hugs, JB

Thanks, Judy. I had not known all of Lava Man’s fame on the track, altho I did know about the 3 Hollywood Gold Cups, and the Pacific Classic. I will never forget when I got to feed him a carrot last year, when a bunch of us visited Barn 55 and then walked over to O’Neill’s barn see Lava Man, shortly before HP closed.

Great that you got to meet Lava Man. Love and Hugs, JB

October 22 Cherokee Devotional
In the rush of deadlines, we forget to be glad for all the things that go right. But when one thing goes wrong, the counting starts. Before the day ends, we know exactly how many times we have been put upon. Anything out of order that gets our attention, a ga se s to di, in Cherokee. We ask, What next? And before we know it we are programmed to respond only to negative incidents. The day goes better when we decide early on that if anything can go right, it will. It keeps us looking for order rather than disorder-and that which the eyes of our mind are fastened on will respond.
The soldiers…never explained to the Government when an Indian was wronged, but reported the misdeeds of the Indians.

I have been trying to think of something eloquent to say to you as you deal with illness. I can only think of saying, “We are here for you. All the Zsters will pray for you and be listening ears when you need to vent. When you want to cry, scream, throw things and Laugh, we are here.” Blessings to you.

@Ashton–thank you so much for this video. The footage of Pulpit is much better than what we got, because he was in shadows in his stall. At the time we were there, Eddington was the biggest(tallest TB) horse we had ever seen. And Zenny is probably taller!
I cannot imagine anyone being so hateful as to send hate mail to a horse. That makes my heart hurt. They are all worthy of love.
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Kathy. As you said,we often heard of the wrong doings of Indians especially in the cowboy films!I found Atticus FB page,so many are in tears over Tom’s blog Monday,He is spending a quiet week with Will even going out and about.People are sending flowers,Will loved them.!Tom is,indeed,an inspiration to us all.
Poor Fubu was hissing at the vet, bless him,all those shots!Doc was pleased with his weight though and he got to go shopping with momma but did you see that face!Marty got a medal from the department ob State for all his internashunal bizness and space trabel!!He should run for President!
Mango had a lot of mail yesterday, more donations and onesies!I’d love to see her wardrobe!Theba is giving away a lot of Joey’s belongings to charity. She cannot bear the thought of getting another cat right now and anyway Joey and Larry just turned up!Joey will know when the time is right!Have a great day.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.Sheena.
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Tom’s blog on Monday was incredibly touching. How kind of people to send flowers. That’s good Fubu make it to the doctor’s. Also good to know the doctor is pleased with his weight. Marty has friends in high places. I’m sure he would get lots of votes for President! Sounds like Mango could go for many, many days with a different outfit for each day and never repeat. I can understand that Theba is still grieving for Joey. As you say, when the time is right their next Garden Cat will appear. Have a good Hump Day. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy.

How fantastic that Ziconic and his Uncle are at Mayberry together. Can’t imagine what would drive a person to send hate mail to a horse! I love and appreciate what we have here and the more the merrier. I miss our old friends and enjoy the new ones. Thanks to Zenyatta I have entered a world filled with joy, sorrow, thrills and admiration for the good people involved with these special equine athletes.

Dear Max.Have’nt you heard of the shootings in the Canadian parliament in Ottawa? It’s been all over our news channels.A soldier was shot by the war memorial and later died. The Terrorist made it into parliament but was shot and killed.
Brown Panther is running at the Breeders cup meeting.Hope he behaves this time. The UK are sending out 18 horses.I voted for Noble Mission in the older horse and horse of the year too but I think that will go to Kingman. What about an award for Moose??He must be freed!Sheena

Sheena. When I’m at work, I sometimes don’t have access to CNN. Just watching it now. Ottawa is only an hour drive from the U.S. border. Very sad to hear this news. This thing is still not over. Between Ebola and terrorists, life can be bleak these days.
Good to hear that Owens is giving the Panther another try. If he’s at Woodbine, he might as well head west to Santa Anita. He did run really well last week, albeit before the race.
Moose, the right award for you is still under construction.

Thanks for all the messages of support here in Canada. I thought we’d be safe up here, but, as we can now see, no country is safe anymore. To murder in cold blood a soldier guarding our Tomb of The Unknown Soldier is beyond belief. As you may know, I’m from Moncton, New Brunswick & the memories of the killing of 3 of our RCMP officers is still fresh in my mind & there seems to be so many wrongly-inspired young men out there who are consumed with so much hate. I guess all we can do is keep good thoughts, keep calm and carry on. Thank God for Zenyatta. She always puts me in my Happy Place.

Canada’s parliament attacked, soldier fatally shot nearby
Canada’s parliament attacked, soldier fatally shot nearby
By Randall Palmer and David Ljunggren Reuters Wed. Oct. 22, 2014
(Reuters) – A gunman attacked Canada’s parliament on Wednesday, with gunfire erupting near a room where Prime Minister Stephen Harper was speaking, and a soldier was fatally shot at a nearby war memorial, jolting the Canadian capital.
The gunman in the parliament building was shot dead, and Harper was safely removed.
Late in article:
It was unclear whether there was any connection between Wednesday’s shootings and an attack on Monday when a convert to Islam ran down two Canadian soldiers with his car, killing one, near Montreal, before being shot dead by police in the first fatal attack on Canadian soil tied to Islamic militants.

Dear Max.There was a major security breach in our parliament today,a young man threw marbles at the MP’s during PMQ’s.They hit and damaged the security screen. He was shouting “the English are all idiots”mind you I think they are sometimes!!!I can see many parliaments increasing their security after today.I very much doubt anyone could get in our parliament with a gun though but who knows??These fanatics are everywhere.Thinking of our Canadian friends.I heard Princess Anne is visiting Ottawa for Armistice.Sheena.
Max
Sheena. This is not the first time that this kind of thing has happened in Canada. There was a previous attack in 1984. Several people were killed and wounded in the provincial parliament in Quebec. The Canadians according to CNN have serious problems with radical home grown terrorists. Real need however to tighten up everywhere in NA and the West. I just heard that the guy in Ottawa who took down the shooter was the Sergeant at Arms. As you know from your knowledge of the mother of Parliaments, that job is usually ceremonial. This time this Sergeant at Arms was packing heat. He’s 6’5′, ex RCMP Superintendent. Without him, things could have been a lot worse. Looks however like it ain’t over as the lockdown goes on. Scary stuff.

Thank-you to everyone who sent love and support hearing about the soldier killed while guarding our war memorial in Ottawa, our capital. We have felt relatively safe in a scary world, but no longer .Our news today has shown military men and women asking others not to be frightened and saying that they ( from WW2 to Afghanistan vets) will be wearing their medals proudly and marching in the Remembrance Day services across the land. The world is a small place today,we are all connected and what happens to one happens to us all. Barbara,,as you said, love is stronger than hate, let us pray for peace.
Dear Ingrid
The video of the dog giving the little dog a proper burial was so touching. He was not going to stop until the job was finished thoroughly and his heart was so sweet and full of respect for the little body he covered so gently. When he finished his work I wondered if he had a home or coped on his own and what his fate may be?Animals teach us so much and are the most humane ,kind creatures.
Tully is getting better,She went for a walk along the river today and her paw is healing. Ash is doing well.I went down to him this morning and as I mucked out he followed me everywhere and stopped when I stopped.I bent down to chat to him and he lowered his head and his lips quivered as though he was talking and he had big blowing sounds that made me know he understood me. They when I continued I leaned over and gave him a kiss and he bent down and nibbles on my hand as it rested on the rake. He is so happy to be getting out- lots of whinnies and nickers when his people arrive at the barn. A happy time on a sad day.

Mission in line for top honour at Cartier Awards
By Scott Burton RacingPost.com 22 OCT 2014
NOBLE MISSION has replaced Cirrus Des Aigles at the head of the race to be crowned Europe’s champion older horse at the Cartier Awards in London next month.
Khalid Abdullah’s five-year-old was also a significant mover in the horse of the year prize – won twice by his brother Frankel – and trails only Kingman and Australia.
