Happy Thursday,
We have a very special post for you today! Cozmic One has been training in New York with John Shirreffs, and today’s post is an update on his progress–straight from Dottie and John!
Enjoy!
-Team Z
Greetings from Barn 41—Belmont Park, New York!
Hello Everyone,
We hope each of you is doing very well. Everything here is moving right along. It is a beautiful fall day in New York and we thought it would be fun to share a COZMIC ONE update with you.
Coz is a big, strong, handsome colt! He loves to train and and enjoys going to the race track. He exhibits high energy levels and shows great strength and endurance. Another quality John comments about often is his intelligence. He’s a very smart colt, another trait he definitely shares with his Mother.
Physically, it is quite interesting to note how his body is changing and maturing as a result of his exercise and training program. Coz is developing a very strong shoulder and a long length of stride, two physical qualities John so admired in Zenyatta as she prepared for racing. Needless to say, it is exciting to see her colt developing them as well.
Each day’s lessons builds upon the prior skills taught. Coz has breezed a ½ mile in company twice galloping out with energy, as well as working on his starting gate lessons. He’s currently jogged out of the gate twice and will continue to do more gate work as he gets closer to running. Physically and mentally, Coz is developing a very solid foundation in all skills so necessary for his future career as a racehorse.
Cozmic One is a very busy guy each day. Here’s this morning:
5:30 a.m. Coz is up and looking out of his stall ready to begin his day. He is hand-walked for about 30 minutes each morning.
6:00 a.m. Coz is now back in his stall and gets brushed and ready for his breakfast. He loves to eat!
8:15 a.m. He is tacked up and ready to walk to the paddock to begin his exercise on the main track. At Belmont Park, it is a long walk from our barn to the paddock and Coz enjoys doing this. It helps him ‘warm up’ and he gets a chance to see everything going on and experience all types of noises and sounds that happen at the race track. Once in the paddock, he walks around, stands in a saddling stall for a bit, and gets to experience this environment.
8:45 a.m. Coz leaves the paddock to walk through the tunnel to the main track. Once on the main track, he stands for a few minutes and then walks to the 1 ¼ pole (Belmont is a 1 ½ mile oval), turns and jogs to the ⅞ pole, and then gallops 1 ½ miles at a very good pace.
He then stands for a few moments preparing to leave the main track and begin his walk back to the barn.
10:15 a.m. Once back at the barn, Coz continues to cool out by walking around the shed row. He has a bath and returns to his stall for further grooming.
11:00 a.m. IT’S LUNCH TIME! This is truly one of his favorite times of the day! Coz is definitely a good eater who has a very good appetite. One of his favorite treats are the Apple Cookies the Mosses send to the barn for him and his pals. He absolutely LOVES them!
It is so special having Coz in the barn. Having worked with Zenyatta and having her with us each day for so many years, it is a complete JOY to get to know her son so intimately and work with him every day. As John commented last night, “At this time, I could not be more pleased with his progress.”
As Zenyatta would say, this is TOO CUTE! Without a doubt, she would be very proud of him!
Have a wonderful week!
With Love,
Hugs to all~

Thank you SO MUCH, John and Dottie for this very detailed description of Coz’s days. Sounds like he is coming along BEAUTIFULLY. How could he not, given who his MOM is?!!

I was just thinking about Dottie and her help with bringing us Zenyatta’s voice the other day. I am so glad to see this post about Zenyatta’s son. Thank you for sharing his routine. We’re all so pleased to hear that his life is going well. Good luck with his gate work!

Thank you Dottie and John for the update as we anxiously await Coz’s first race. Very happy to hear of his progress direct from the “horse’s mouth” so to speak! He is a handsome devil and Zenyatta has every right to be a proud momma.

I love reading progress updates on this handsome colt. Being in Colorado, horse racing is not a #1 sport, so following him on Facebook has been awesome. And I love the top photo by Mr. Shirreffs. I had to look twice as it almost looked like a painting. Belmont is be far one of the most beautiful racetracks in the country. Queen Z would be so proud!

Wish Zenny could see it all. I know the Mosses are very proud.
Love to all!

Today’s blog is such a treat!!!
Cozmic One will always hold a special place in my heart at Zenny’s first son. It’s so exciting to hear from John and Dottie about him and what he is like, what his day is like, and how he seems to have inherited some of his mother’s special traits.
Thank you, Team Coz, for all this info and for the wonderful photos.
Go Coz!

What a pleasure to read Dottie’s wonderful writing again. It’s been too long. I feel like I just spent the morning with Coz and just had Zeny wink at me and say “too cute”.
My final thought for Coz….”Be like mom”.
Thank you, I love and appreciate Team Z.

What a wonderful surprise! I was thinking about Dottie just the other day. Winstar Farm posts pictures with remarks from the stallions and they made me sooo homesick for Zenyatta’s posts. Thank you Dottie, John and Coz for the upbeat news. I am pleased to hear that Cozmic One is allowed time to savor the track and his surroundings. This unhurried routine will pay off on the track. Oh, this blog has made my day. Thank you Lanes End for all you do for Zenyatta, the Princess and all of her many fans.

Thanks so much for the wonderful update on Coz. It seems like just yesterday we all got to see Ann and Zenny’s first born together in that stall. Now look at him. Love hearing from Dottie and John. I know John will only do his very best to protect and prepare this glorious boy for what comes next. Zenyatta’s brother is something to behold as well. I didn’t get a very good view of the ears though. Much sadness in the racing world with so many losses. Prayers for all that have suffered losses. Prayers for the victims of violence and disease. Never give up looking for the good around us. Prayers for TC, too. Love to all.
