Zenyatta’s Portrait the Payoff in Forbes.com Story
“American Thoroughbred,” a fine art photography collection shot by Neil Latham that showcases Zenyatta’s portrait, has been earning accolades in top sports, horse racing, photography and news media. Not only is Zenyatta’s portrait often featured, but her iconic prowess and presence are brought up again and again.
In a recent Forbes.com story, she fulfills the photographer’s quest to capture the essence of the Thoroughbred, no small feat as more than 100 top-name racehorses had been unable to do so. “She was the most glorious creature I had ever seen,” says Latham. “All of my photos portrayed the power and dominance of the breed, but it wasn’t until Zenyatta that I was able to reveal the emotional, fragile side,” he explains.
“American Thoroughbred” also earned a full page story in The New York Times sports section with a mention on the front page, as well as stories in Blood-Horse, Vanity Fair, The Paulick Report, and more. See a few in the following links:

Who would have thought it, Laoban breaks his maiden winning the Gr.2 Jim Dandy! Coz, are you going to surprise us all by doing the same, breaking your maiden on a Stakes win?
Max
This was super! Congrats to him and his peeps.
Judy B from Rhode Island
Dear Mary, Max and Z Fans:
Wow, congrats to Laoban and his connections. Beautiful Dark Bay son of Uncle Mo out of a daughter of Speightstown. Winning payout $56.00. Guess that’s why they call the Spa “The Graveyard of Favorites”. Here’s the Jim Dandy replay. Love and Hugs, JB

That was a beautiful win. Uncle Mo as a sire is getting a lot of winners. We must recall that Mo has Kris S and Roberto in his pedigree. Laoban gets some Danzig from his mother. Lao was so thrilled to get his first win today that he dumped Jose and headed to the winner’s circle on his own. So great!
Judy B from Rhode Island
Dear Max:
He’s got a great pedigree. Too funny. Guess he was excited to start celebrating in the Winner’s Circle. Too funny. Hope Jose is OK. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
Jose rejoined him before the winner’s circle ceremony. He said that he was fine. Laoban changed leads and tossed Jose off. The colt never looked back but just kept going on the loose. Outrider corralled him. It was pretty good.

Dear Judy B.,

On this day 10years ago one of our most popular sprinters Borderlescott won the Stewards Cup.Now aged 14yrs he is enjoying his retirement. His owners kindly left him with the Bastimans. He lives in the same stable and is turned out in the same paddock.Something you should have thought of Clive Smith?Too late now though.AidanO’Brien has become one of the greatest racehorse trainers ever today with 282 grade I winners and Galileo isn’t having a bad season either!!!

SW is a chestnut. The chestnuts are on a roll at the moment. She’s trained by John Sadler. He’s good with filiies, and he trained a favorite Moss horse, Zazu. Always liked Zazu, a beautiful gray, now in Japan for her broodmare career.
Judy B from Rhode Island
Dear Max:
Yes, she is a beautiful Chestnut like her Daddy, Curlin. (I’ve been spelling her name wrong; should be Stellar Wind). I always liked Zazu too, Hope she has a happy, healthy life as a mama in Japan. Love and Hugs, JB
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Judy B.,
That was quite a race by both Stellar Wind and Beholder.
Congrats to SW, VE and all connections!

Yes, Beholder always gives her all, but today belongs to “stellar” Stellar. (sorry, couldn’t resist). Hope they both came out of the race OK. Love and Hugs, JB

Judy,
What a race. Stellar Wind is truly her father’s daughter. I don’t know if Beholder was all out since the replay seems to show Victor much more active with the whip than Gary on Beholder. Think he might have been holding something back for the Pacific Classic. After all, what a score for Beholder if she beat Chromie and Dortman!
Judy B from Rhode Island
Dear Shirlee:
Could be that’s what they’re aiming for. That would be an amazing race. Yes, Curlin has some very talented babies. Love and Hugs, JB

Also thanks to Neil Latham for the Zenyatta Collection! :-)

Thank goodness Jose not hurt. Horse looked like he was having a wonderful time.

I think this was revenge for Jose using the whip during the final drive. If you look closely, it was a “duck and dump”
A sneaky maneuver where the horse lowers his head unexpectedly and unseats the rider.
Yes, he was having a good time.

Effinex on target for the Grade 1 Whitney
HorseRacingNation.com July 30, 2016
Tri-Bone Stable’s Effinex was on the main track for his first post-Suburban workout, going five furlongs in 1:00.65 seconds under exercise rider Kelvin Pahal. The son of Mineshaft remains on target for next Saturday’s Grade 1, $1.25 million Whitney Stakes at Saratoga Race Course.
Earlier this month at Belmont Park, the Jimmy Jerkens-trained Effinex became the first horse to win back-to-back Suburbans since Devil His Due, who was trained by his late father Allen Jerkens. Mike Smith, aboard for Effinex’s last three wins, including the Grade 1 Clark Handicap, rode Devil His Due to victory in the 1994 Suburban.

Sometime, someday. I will know how to take living in my stride. I will know how to sidestep a great many things, and completely ignore that many more. Someday I will learn to pay less attention to the unimportant and stop fussing about things I had nothing to do with in the past and cannot significantly change in the future. One day I will have finally gotten rid of all those things I saved for some reason, and then I will have room for what I really like today. As soon as possible, I am going to be less serious about some of the trouble I hear about. Soon I am going to sit in the sun all day and just be happy that I now have time to sit in the sun and be happy!

Congrats to Neil on his great achievement. Beautiful book and what must have been an exciting exhibit.
Zenny, only you can go from fun to fabulous. Your photos wearing that cute peppermint necklace were precious. If that wasn’t enough……super model Zenny takes NYC in style.
Neil’s Mother must be smiling from above. Such talent!
Boy, talk about great racing. The past few wweks have been great! That Saratoga Goose must be on cloud nine. Watching that chestnut with that crooked blaze, neck and neck with Beholder sure made my day. Love them both, but was cheering for the girl plucked off of the MD track.
My Mom recently past away, thus her trusty address book came in handy in calling friends and family. One important number listed under the Rs was for Racing Reservations! Too cute.

Dear Kathy.I think that time has come for me.As I grow older I care less and less what people think of me and I sit in the sun.I felt sad for Beholder last night just popped in to see the result before bed.Tough race I can’t bring myself to watch yet.A Frankel winner in Japan they said the vibes were good.A much cooler day here I have shared Emyr’s blog on my FB a great video of Auntie Blue in the nest with Tegid!Glesni soon saw her off with a slap from a wet fish.I am now friends with Prince Henry Charles Albert David!!!
He does pretend to be Prince Harry but I wasn’t born yesterdayRemember that General who kept on changing his name.Poor Benji might have Addison’s disease and the meds are making him sick.I can’t believe Goodwood is already over some great races this year especially the old warriors winning.Gosh,Flintshire’s race was ran at a snail’s pace but he was a fine winner.Philip Hammond welcomed Gladstone to the Treasury he can help him with the budget.I hope they get a female cat soon they are thinking of one for the Cabinet office.Rats everywhere in pawlitics! No news from Fubu yet.Hope you have a blessed Sabbath.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Angel Holly,Nikko and Sugar.Sheena.XOXO

Dear Sheena,
It’s always devastating to watch an unbeaten horse lose. Congrats to the Frankel winner in Japan! Glad you’re enjoying cooler temps. Wish it would cool down here! I will go and check on Emyr’s blog. Great drama at the Dyfi! Enjoy being friends with the Prince! Very concerned about poor little Benji. You have great memories to look back on, on Goodwood. Gladstone is lucky to have Hammond to help him. That would be cool if they get a female cat. I wonder if Fibbs knows about all those rats! lol Can’t imagine what’s going on with Fubu. I wish you a blessed Sabbath as well. Zoe let us know today is Mutt Day. Great pic of her wearing her tiara. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Angel Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO

AUGUST
END OF FRUIT MONTH
GALO’NEE
Powerful summer storms, filled with intense energy, send jagged lightning strikes across the sky accompanied by rolling, cracking thunder. Pressure changes, colors move from deep purple to white and greenish-yellow. When a storm threatens, most take cover. Earth is in continual change, using its natural power to destroy and renew, to dismantle and to make beautiful. And so it is with supposedly kind-hearted, civilized, and benevolent human beings. What often seems to be our right turns into a storm that devastates and throws us into the whirling eye of the storm. We are hurt and we hurt others, not because we want to but because we are trying to get around obstacles to a better place. If we can only be still, stop arguing, stop being offended, the storm will settle and life will move on.
For me, there was always a sense of contentment.
