Dear Max.Sorry about the snow, winter has arrived early for you. It’s still very mild here, we are expecting some frosts next week.Yes,The Fly’s race was great and shorty was a happy bunny!Sadly Marty the rat is not very well these days.He has 15000 FB friends is such a little cutie really!Have’nt heard if SS has been declared for the Tingle Creek yet.Mullins has Faugheen running at Ascot Saturday. The Moose is free!Sheena.
Max
Moosie tweeted his good wishes to SDG for a speedy recovery, and told him that he, the Moose, would have the two mile chase all to himself. What a cheeky rogue that Moose is. Waiting for some comment from him on Ms. Annie.
The rat is ill? Or is it a mere ploy to get more attention or food supplies? My brother had one of those rats. She was totally calculating.
Lane’s End is advertising on behalf of Mission. Think that he’s arriving very soon. I’ll bet that they are sad at Warren Place to see him go. Any word on Kind? How about that chestnut full brother to Frankel who is about the same age as Ziconic? Looks like him too. He probably gets that coat from granny Urban Sea. I’ll be interested to see if he goes to Lady C or Gosden.
Kathy
Hi Max,
I know Sheena had mentioned Marty the rat to you. He died tonight . Had an enlarged heart.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
RIP Marty. All God’s Creatures; Great and Small. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
Kathy. This Marty is a real rat? I always thought that he was a virtual rat. Sorry to hear this, Sheena, as you seemed very taken with the rat.
Kathy
Max,
Yes, Marty was a live rat. Light buff color with white markings. He lived in Orange County somewhere. They dressed him up and made up funny stories about him. He was quite cute. Very charismatic.
Kathy
Thanks, Judy. Love and hugs back, Kathy

@Sue Noel–
You are absolutely right. Remember when Dottie was retiring from being Zenny’s reporter, and we all thought the blog would end? We were horrified, and many of us scrambled about, gathering e-mail addresses trying to avert catastrophe. We have weathered many a storm, and thanks to Team Z, we are still here. Hugs to all.
Darlene Daniels
Barbara,
I so remember that night. It was a nightmare. I was reading the blog and learning that Dottie was saying goodbye, Zenyatta and her story had come full circle. I was sitting next to husband and I knew he would not understand why I was so upset. Choking back tears I said I was going outside. After a bit. I thought maybe I did not read it right, and came back in to re-read the blog again. Then I just let the tears flow, which I had tried so hard to hold back. My husband asked “what is wrong with you”? I choked out, “Zenyatta’s blog is ending” He said in an angry voice “why!” He was angry because he knew how much it means to me, even though he thinks it somewhat silly. I will never forget that feeling of potential loss and desperation to hold on to so many people who have come to mean so much to me, not to mention all news of Zenyatta and her offspring. Zenyatta’s blog is something I am forever grateful for and I will never forget it.
Darlene Daniels
P.S. Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Moss and all of Team Z for continuing to share Zenyatta and children with us. This blog is so much a part of many of our lives that we hold very very dear. Love to all of you.
Barbara Wood
Hi Darlene–I enjoyed seeing pictures of you at BC 2014.
Yes, thank goodness we’ve been able to keep this going.
Marty R / Colorado
Dear Zenyatta Family,
Please go back to the previous page and read Sue Noel’s entry, the last on the page. Thank you Sue.
I am just coming back to posting on the blog, myself. My first two attempts on the previous page ended up awaiting moderation for quite a spell. I contacted Team Zenyatta Webmasters and now the entries are present. A lot transpired while my posts were in limbo.
I had a question in a different direction from the most recent entries I would like to ask again. Does anyone know what Zenyatta is or will be doing to get ready to mate again? Will it be similar to when she was a maiden mare with the lights, etc. getting her body ready or variations of those procedures or does nothing need to be done? I’m just wondering how things proceed for a mare who has taken a year off from pregnancy.
Again to Sue Noel, my deepest sympathies to you on the loss of your best friend. This is a wonderful place to receive strength during our most difficult times.
Love to all, Marty R
Darlene Daniels
Dear Marty,
Glad you are back and posting on the blog. Very good question! I have wondered about the same things. HugZ.
Barbara Wood
Marty R–Welcome back!
Max
Marty. They will follow those same procedures because horses naturally do not give birth in winter. Nature does not want a foal on the ground in icy weather. They use lights to trick the mare’s body into ovulation. Z was given a year off to allow her to be bred early in the year in order to give birth as close to January 1 as possible. That is the North American official birthday for all TBs. A foal born early in the year has a better chance of developing for racing at 3 than one born later in the year. Some late born foals however do very well at 3. Northern Dancer had already won the KD and the Preakness before his real birthday of May 27. Shirlee’s Muchie was born in mid June and had a stellar racing record, although he did have his best successes later in his career. Like all rules, there are exceptions.

Dear Sheena,
The link didn’t come up but I went over there and got all the news. What a fantastic week Hovis had. It is a worry, however, when he is too active and he still needs to heal. Loved his pic. He’s SO HANDSOME! Love and hugs, and thanks! Kathy.

November 21 Cherokee Devotional
Thanksgiving time means the first hard freeze, the first spitting ice to rattle the dry autumn leaves. Early morning frost crystallizes grasses into rods of light. The last bit of bright color is gone from the woods, and the last walk has been taken without gloves and a scarf. But it also means family, si da ne lv hi, to the Cherokee. Tradition
holds true in keeping a common thread with other times and other persons. We remember them with love and appreciation. We cook the same food, continue the same good-natured bantering and chaos with children underfoot. With the flow of activity, some moments can be stressful-but then, someone recalls earlier times. The young ones say what it meant to them. Suddenly, tradition takes a tighter hold-and no one minds.
So it is with Wakan Tanks. We believe that he is everywhere, yet, he is to us the spirit of our friends, whose voices we cannot hear.

Kathy
Dear Sheena,
I know what you mean about feeling lost on Mondays. Marty certainly kept us entertained. I wonder if his parents will adopt another rat after their pain has subsided. We will have to stay tuned. Zoe has indeed received several wonderful gifts. She deserves all of them, though, plus some. I did see the cat and monkey playing together. So sweet! Funny cartoon. I can relate! Yes, all three sleep on the bed. Our’s is king-size…would be nice if there were something larger! lol That’s great that Dolly is back. Thankfully the weather there is nice now. I don’t know how they stand the summer there. Haven’t seen Coco. Will look for her. The show Boo was on is Jimmy Kimmel Live. Haven’t watched yet, but I DVR’d it. I’m going to watch it next. Yes, more snow in NY. Those poor people! We got a few drops of rain. you stay dry over there. Have a wonderful Friday. It’s great to have you back here. Seems “normal” now. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy.
Kathy
Sheena,
Looked up Coco. What a cute little dog. That’s so horrible she was stepped on as a puppy. Bless them for providing a cart for her long distance traveling.

Dear Shirlee.I think it’s James Herriot you are talking about. They made a series and film called”All creatures great and small”.It was on our TV in the 70’s.Loved the books and series.Hugs Sheena.

Me too!
Terry Crow
Those books are among the best ever. The TV show was good also, but the actors did not fit what I thought the characters should look like. Of course I am sure others have another opinion.
Marshall (NC Broad)
I loved those books, too! I also enjoyed the PBS series, too, particularly the early episodes where James gets into various jams due to Siegfried, Tristan and some of the colorful clients.
Thanks for the reminder of a wonderful series of books.
Hugs and Love
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Watched Boo on Jimmy Kimmel Live. He was in the World’s Cutest Selfie segment. Looked adorable in his little shirt. Hugs, Kathy.

Thank you to Sue Noel for your blog on page 7. Am so glad , so many are still here for me to visit with everyday. I lost a dear cat last week and we all know how quickly good things can be taken from us without any warning. Love begets love, so be careful to keep it going. The world is too sad without it.
Barbara Wood
Nancy S.–so sorry for your loss. You are right on all counts.
Terry Crow
nancy s–well put and so true.

Oh Sue how right you are and how clearly you expressed what we all really feel. Truth is my most beloved horse of all time was my own dear Peanut. He lived to be 32 years old and the most social animal you would ever meet. He is buried in our pasture. But Zenyatta is my horse of a lifetime which is a very different thing. Without our friends here I would never have known a thing about Hovis and so many stories from the vault. I guess I’m just feeling a little touchy after everything that has happened. Just remember, the Derby is just around the corner and I can hardly wait. Love to all.
