Sheena,
Thank you so much for posting Hovis. So many of us look forward to our Friday morning laugh with the dear boy. Cold but sunny in Indy. 17 degrees when I went out to feed the stray cat who lives on my front porch. He does have an electric heated bed.

November 14 Cherokee Devotional
A view of the hills lying shoulder deep in a thick blanket of fog has widened, and the barelimbed beauty of November woods is revealed. November changes the land drastically. The carpet of colorful leaves no longer rustle underfoot. The cardinals and titmice are here, but their songs are reserved for spring. Owls call early in the dark woods, and coyotes yip and wail their evening songs along the blue-crested hills. A walk in the woods is peaceful and solitary. Water harps play beneath the ice in a shallow stream. A doe’s indignant snort warns that some unknown intruder is disturbing her feeding time. It is strange how common it is-common and old, but so rare and so new.
The many moons and sunny days we have lived here will long be remembered by us.

Dear Kathy.Wonderful devotional as always!Did’nt our boy have a fabulous weekend!I do hope Herman the German can sort out his problems,Karen is soo upset. It’s lovely at Cheltenham today after the deluge yesterday. Many fallers in the first! They have just opened a bar in Quevega’s name at Cheltenham she’s in foal now!I got my osprey calendar today it’s beautiful scenes from the whole season.
Zoe’s mum had to work yesterday so her daddy was celebrating with her!He looks a very nice gentleman.Did you see Marty taking his meds yummy style!!He’s getting back to work now his owie is healing!!Gosh,Mango’s post brought tears last night telling Santa to give her presents to less fortunate animals! She is SUCH an inspiration! All our furbabies are!Kimberly is trying to raise money for her vet’s bills, she will do anything to keep him alive.Have a great day.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.Sheena.
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Sandy.Hovis has many photos to choose from for future diaries.Keep us posted about his ligament problem.Hugs Sheena.
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
I know Hovis was in “Hovis heaven!” Feel so bad for Karen. When our furbabies are sick or injured it’s awfully hard on us! Glad for the better weather at Cheltenham. Wow…that would be pretty cool to have a bar named in your name. Such good news that Quevega is in foal. Oooooh! An osprey calendar! Sounds really nice! Enjoyed seeing Zoe’s pic with her dad. That sure was a huge stuffed animal! You’re right, Zoe’s dad looks like a nice man. Marty has the right idea, taking meds with strawberry yogurt. Mango giving her presents to less fortunate animals is very touching. Her heart, as well as her moms’, are in the right place! I hope Kimberly can sell a lot of cards. I know keeping him still going is very expensive for her. Poor thing. Have a wonderful Friday, and enjoy the weekend ahead! Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy.

OK, I have just enough time to post a horse joke before i leave. Sorry that it is just a partial horse joke but I have been unable to find my old notebooks. This one is more in the category of no good deed goes unpunished. There was a farm where a horse and a goat both lived. One day, the horse became ill and the farmer called the vet. The vet said that the horse must take the prescribed medicine for three days and said he would be back during that period to check up on the horse but, if the horse didn’t improve, he would have to put him down. Nearby, the goat listened closely. The next two days the goat kept a close watch on the horse. On the third day, the goat realized that the horse was not doing well and, that when the vet did come, the horse would be put down. The goat went up to the horse and started talking to him. “Listen Dobbin,” said the goat, “you have to start showing some life. Come on, let’s go. Up, up, up.” The horse started to stir. The goat, noticing the activity on the part of the horse, then said “Yeah, yeah, that’s it. You did it.” About that time the farmer came by, saw the horse running in the pasture, and said “It’s a miracle. The horse is cured. We’ll have a grand party to celebrate. Le’s cook the goat.”

Churchill to honor retired jockey Napravnik
Jonathan Lintner, the courier-journal.November 13, 2014
Churchill Downs will honor recently retired jockey Rosie Napravnik, the first and only female rider to win the Kentucky Oaks, during Saturday’s racing program, the track has announced.
After a sixth race dubbed “The Run for Rosie,” a ceremony is planned in the winner’s circle. Post time is 3:08 p.m.
Napravnik, who announced she’d retire to start a family after winning the Breeders’ Cup Distaff earlier this month aboard Untapable, first piloted Believe You Can to victory in the 2012 Oaks.

Talamo Notches Win
No. 1,500, Takes Feature
Del Mar Stable News Thursday, November 13th, 2014
Talented Joe Talamo, 24-year-old native of New Orleans, notched victory number 1,500 with an upset triumph in Thursday’s fourth race at Del Mar and then put the icing on the cake with a wire-to-wire success aboard Demonica in the afternoon’s feature, a $58,000 mile and one-sixteenth race over the infield turf course.
Talamo achieved his career milestone win on 7-1 longshot Ol’ Fashion Gal, returning to $16.80, and then made it 1,501 on Demonica, a convincing almost two-length winner of the seventh race

Did anyone read the article on Bloodhorse.com=Alydar’s Last Hours?’
I saw it but could not bear to read as I know what a tragedy that was. Hope someone burns for what was done to him.
Max
Agree with you. Could not read it. Reminds me as well of the disappearance of Shergar. No one knows for certain what finally happened to him. Both tragic.
Maryp NY
Shirlee & Max, I did read it and I have to admit that it’s the first time I got it from someone (Tom or Tim Dixon) who was there, just a short time after he was injured. He was with Alydar at the clinic when it came time to euthanize him and he states many facts about that night and thereafter. It’s well written and worth reading.
Maryp
shirleeinindy
Maryp,
Thanks for the review of the article but I could not read it without tears and heartbreak as I loved this guy so much. Always, pulled for him over Affirmed. There has been so much grief lately that I am just not up to more.
Terry Crow
Anyone who has read A Wild Ride, a book about Calumet Farm during this period, could easily come to the wrong conclusion about this case. The book was written before the real facts came out. The real hero is a Dallas attorney who persued the facts. A lot of people went to jail as a result. My personal opinion is that Alydar’s caretaker was paid not to be present when the dirty deeds were done. He is one of the bad guys. Calumet was in a load of financial trouble and the people in charge must have figured that collecting the insurance on Alydar was the only way they could get out from under.

November 15 Cherokee Devotional
Those who claim to know tell us we have to hear and say something as much as twenty-five times before it sinks into our hearts and becomes a permanent memory. But don’t we know that once is enough for some things? We recall certain incidents in vivid detail-not always to our good. Why is it important to be able to recall? Some things should be clear to us, because we are ruled by what we have in our subconscious minds and hearts. And we have a lightning-fast talent for mentally scanning our memories for grudges and all things associated. Pleasantries are second-best for instant recall. It reminds us of Emerson’s comment that when civilized man built his coach, he lost the use of his feet. When we store more grudges than happy memories, we lose the use of our right to be joyful.
Once I was young, my sons, and thought as you do now…

Dear Kathy.Great devotional as always.Marty is doing well and has to order more desk calenders! He loves his yogurt.!At least no rain here today or Cheltenham good crowd there. It seems Fubu is in another contest but it’s on FB I am still voting in the other.Lily’s mum has moved house with her new dog Molly and the angels are looking after Lily well.Mango goes from strength to strength with her carts Bullet Oakley certainly didn’t take her advice to go easy he loves his zoomies!!She and Norbert have made a lot of $ for the fund.Great story about Maxx the dog and his faithful owner.Ray’s had some snow is hoping for a storm! It seems hedgehogs are the new pet very cute but I hope they won’t get dumped when peeps grow tired of them.We had “Children in Need” on TV last night raised millions!! so many heartbreaking stories especially little ones with cancer. We have much to be grateful for!!!Moose’s jockey Sam just won for Paul Nicholls!Have a great Saturday.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.Sheena.
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Seems Marty really excels at sales. He’s such a tycoon! Yogurt is a nice healthy food for him. I’m sure everyone at Cheltenham are grateful that it’s dry today. Good luck to Fubu in his latest contest. I’m glad Lily’s mom has a new furbaby, also that the angels are looking after sweet Lily. Heartwarming that Bullet Oakley is doing so well with his Freedom Wheels. What a wonderful endeavor! I’ll look for Maxx’s story. Ray is as handsome as ever. He has a very good life. Loved the little hedgehog. Kind of an unusual pet. I agree in hoping people don’t get them and grow tired of them and dump them. That’s great that “Children in Need” raised so much money. We have to be so thankful when the children in our lives are healthy and happy. Congrats to Sam for his win. Have a wonderful Saturday! Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy.

Snazzy!
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
A lovely picture of the Moose, and the halter is quite stylish indeed! Max did you see the link to the LoPresti interview re Danny that posted on the previous page?
Max
Yes, I saw it. LoPresti is a great conditioner. It’s obvious that he loves the Danimal like his own kid. He only trains about 20 horses for the track each year. He knows each and every one of his horses in minute detail. He knows their likes and dislikes. Does all of the work himself to watch over them. Morton Fink says that LoPresti turns down work in order to be able to devote himself to each one of his horses. He even lives with them year round. Remarkable.
Vote for Dan.

Barbara Wood
@shirleeinindy–I read the article in your link, as well as the book. It truly was a Wild Ride. Fortunately for me, the part about Alydar himself did not take up the bulk of the book, or I could not have read it. The bulk of the story was about J.T. Lundy and how horses are in jeopardy when their owners extend themselves to make money. RIP, dear AlyDarling.
Terry Crow
Barbara-When A Wild Ride was written the real facts of the case were not known. Some guys at the beginning of the book depicted as heroes turned out to be real pukes. If the same book were to be written today, there would be a lot more about the circumstances involving the death of Alydar. There is a special place in hell for J. T. Lundy. You are right about that part of the story not making up the bulk of the book. These facts came out later. I really think a follow-up book should be written so that the people responsible can be properly vilified.
SallyB.(AuntiecherishesZandheryoung)
Terry; Very interesting!! I hate the thought of these scums involved somehow in Alydar’s death. I never read the book and I’d sure like to read a follow up.
Barbara Wood
TC–I remember thinking the same thing when I read it. There should be a follow -up! Glad to have you back.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear TC GP and Z Fans:
Horrible what happened to this beautiful Champion. Run free Alydar with Dubai and Z Princess. Love and Hugs, JB
vicki
Terry I am so happy to have you back with us. There were many times we really needed your wise words, redneck jokes and honesty. When I feel down I think of the video when Zenyatta was released in the large paddock and realized that she was unfettered and could run, buck and do just what she wanted for the first time in many years. I probably should have watched my Cotton more carefully but she really is a free spirit and when I look out my bedroom window I can see her stalking that mocking bird that likes to peck her on the head.
vicki
I hope they don’t mess with Ziconcis forelock. He is so gorgeous. I hope Zenny goes back to Tapit.
