Happy Thursday!
November 7th is particularly special to us, as it’s the anniversary of Zenyatta’s 2009 Breeders’ Cup Classic win. In honor of this day we’re re-releasing Jamie Corum’s Zenyatta: Breeders’ Cup Gold in the Zenyatta Shop.
We were at Mayberry Farm in Ocala yesterday visiting Cozmic One. Coz looks great, and Ann, Jerry, and John were thrilled to observe his morning routine.
Today we’re at Lane’s End with Zenyatta, and we told her all about the incredibly successful 2013 Zenyatta.com Celebration. The winners and results will be released once all prizes are claimed, but we want to thank each and every fan who participated. Thanks to you, this weekend was even more fun than we had hoped! The Celebration Sticker and Invitation To Meet Zenyatta were so popular that we decided to draw five winners—Zenyatta can’t wait to meet you!
We’ll update the blog next week with many more photos from this trip!
Update: The five winners of our Invitation To Meet Zenyatta drawing were chosen and notified on Tuesday, November 5.
In the meantime, don’t forget to watch Zenyatta’s 2009 Breeders’ Cup run today. We love you, Z!

I feel a mixture of excitement, nostalgia, and longing every time I see Z run.
Excitement because she is so exciting to watch.
Nostalgia because we miss her on the track.
Longing to see her run again even though she will not.
We’re really glad she has such a good life. And we can hardly wait to see what her kids can do.

Dave,
You have summed it up beautifully! Totally agree with you.
Z IS all that — and more.

Thank you for the wonderful photos! I’m especially fond of black & white photos, too. I will never, ever forget the thrill of actually being there to watch Zenny beat the boys in that BC Classic! One of the greatest moments in racing – that’s for sure!

You’re Not Here By Chance
Just think,
You’re not here by chance,
but by God’s choosing.
His hand formed you
and made you the person you are.
He compares you to no one else-
you are one of a kind.
You lack nothing that His grace can’t give you.
He has allowed you to be here at this time in history
to fulfill His special purpose for this generation.
loved today’s blog w/ the video & pics <3
thx team z
god bless

I love seeing the pictures of Z and her boys! I agree it is so evident how much she loves Ann!
Never get tired of watching her races over and over!
Thanks again for sharing them with us!
Margaret
Z with her head down allowing Ann to rub her–classic Z. She hasn’t her love for her mama at all. She hasn’t forgotten. It’s pure love.
Coz is HUGE ginormous! He’s gonna be stunning! We’ll probably have to wait another year before any chat of racing. That’s okay. As long as he’s happy and healthy.
Sarah Powell, Clemson, SC
Never, ever get tired of watching this race – sometimes when I need a pick-up I watch it (stored in my favs of course!) She still brings tears and smiles. Both colts are just beautiful! Thanks for sharing.

Me, too, Sarah. I probably look pretty silly sitting behind my computer with both arms thrown up in the air yelling “Un-be-lieve-able. What a race” at the top of my lungs but I don’t care. It’s how it makes me feel. I don’t know if anyone else will understand this, but to me, her run in the 2010 BC Classic was even more impressive to me than 2009. She ran her heart out in that race and had people on their feet screaming. As Ann said at the end of the race when asked by a somewhat dim-witted reporter what she wished had happened, “Well, I wish she had stuck her tongue out”. Lost by a nose technically, but to anyone that watched that race, she didn’t lose at all – not a fan, not anyone’s respect or 2010 HOY. This mare is in the history books and is timeless and classic.

OMGosh that is wonderful they are picking 5 winners to Meet Zenyatta. I hope one of them is ME! I lived in So Cal 45 years of my life and always went to Hollywood Park, Santa Anita & Del Mar to play the horses. Then in 2002 my husband and I moved to AZ, I never got to see Zenyatta race in person. My only regret I should have tried to get up to Cali to see at least one race. I would be one HAPPY lady if I was picked. OH PLEASE!!!!
Gloria
Happy Breeders’ Cup Classic win day, Team Zenyatta! As always, thanks for keeping the fans in the loop with Big Mama Z and her babies! Zenyatta is extra special!

Beautiful, just beautiful.

Still get the chills every time I watch that race! Unbelievable

Me too!

That clip never ceases to bring me to tears or raise the bumps on my arms. Zennie is truly the greatest mare who has lived to prove herself on the track….over and over again. And I must echo other comments as to her love for her owner…it is deeply touching. Thank you so much!! Love you Zenyatta!!!
LindaE_Ohio
The loving and special connection Ann has with Zenyatta is so apparent in each and every photo I have ever seen. Cozmic One sure is growing up to be such a handsome one. Thank you so much for the updates! Best of luck to everyone here in the drawing. I hope to see some recognizable names from this website listed as winners!
Allie in Texas
Thank you for the new pictures of Ann and Zenyatta. Z sure loves her Ann.
Have never seen Zenyatta, but maybe some day they will have a Visitors Day. Till then, I really appreciate this website. Thank you.
Sandra Frey
I cannot wait to get home because my sticker and print of Zenyatta and 13Zenyatta have been delivered! I remember her 2009 BC Classic win like it was yesterday-screamed so loud that I could not talk for two days! She is special. Words just cannot express my feelings…
Much love,
Sandra Frey
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Wow! FIVE trips – what great news!!! I would be over the moon! I hope at least one of us “late comers” who never got to see her race or meet her “in person” gets to go. (And Team Z, I had to use my “legal name” to make a payment so there won’t be a “Sandy” from Ohio).
Thanks for the beautiful pictures and even more thanks for posting the video – I just can’t even imagine what it would have been like to be there on that glorious day, but I am so grateful for the opportunity to see it in retrospect. Even when you KNOW that she’s going to win, you just can’t see how she will pull it off when she was so far behind and in so close to the rail. Whew!
Terry Crow
It would be wonderful if you won, Sandy. The next best thing to a visit at Lane’s End was her second retirement party at Hollywood Park. Before she went out to the track for the ceremony, she was lead around the walking ring for quite some time and actually “posed” for all who were there. I could never understand why the place was not packed that day, Anyway, all who were there got a nice close-up view of the Queen. Would like to hear from anybody else who was there that day. At my age, my memory plays tricks on me.
The Kennedys in San Diego
We were there that day at Hollywood Park. And what a special day it was. My most vivid memory was watching Mario, John, Steve and Michelle lead her off the track, her track, toward the barn for the last time. We watched until she was out of sight. And I must admit I felt a great sense of loss, knowing I may never see her again.
She left the next day before daybreak for Kentucky and her new career as a broodmare.
Terry Crow
I especially remember Mike Smith hugging her neck. So glad I was there.
Vicki B. near Hollywood Park
Terry, it was so exciting that day, to see Zenny up close. It was so crowded, I kept trying to look over people’s heads, and then a couple of those in front at the paddock rail made a little room for me so I could get closer, and when she came into view, I just gasped. I was maybe 10 ft. away, could hardly believe how strongly affected I was, I’ve never felt anything like that before. I would not trade that feeling for anything. Time froze a little, for me.
Terry Crow
Vicki-I wish I had known that you were there so I could have met you. It was a pretty special day. At least there was no repeat of our former governor making an appearance. He was rightfully booed off the stage. I have never heard a reaction like that to an individual before. I should emphasize that, in the case of Arnold S., he was at Z’s first retirement party.
Vicki B. near Hollywood Park
Terry, I didn’t know that happened to Arnold at Zenny’s first party. I know he can be a “charming jerk” and worse, but I’ve always had a soft spot for him, because I like Maria, although things have certainly changed, since he put the frosting on the “jerk” part.
Especially Horses / So Cal
Team Z…your generosity is amazing!! Five happy visits. Thank you.

Cozmic One looks huge — and gorgeous! Thanks to Team Z for the photos. It’s always great to catch up on the family!
Judy G – I think you’re right. It was an earthquake that day!! : )
Catherine
Coz is a handsome boy. How tall is he? Sure seems to be following in Mom’s footsteps as far as his height is concerned.
Do love you much Queen Z loves attention from humans. We love her, too.
Kristin Rawls
Omg! A chance to win to meet Zenyatta? I would love to win a trip to meet her. :) I will never forget her winning the BC Classic. It was such a wonderful race as with any of her races. Writing a paper on her and how other trainers train their racehorse was the best thing ever. My teacher was even asking questions on her! My teacher! So I pulled up her 17th race. my teacher didn’t think she would win, but I knew she would. I made my teacher a believer and I would love to meet you, Zenyatta and team. Oh please pick me! Lol
