Happy Thursday!
A team from The Blood-Horse was recently in Kentucky filming a feature about Zenyatta that will run as a Breeders’ Cup longform at Bloodhorse.com.
The piece will tell the story of Zenyatta’s career and connections, her charisma, and the fan following she maintains to this day. The Bloodhorse team went to Lane’s End to collect video footage to include in this special online feature and visited with Ziconic as well as 14Z. Meanwhile, their photographer in New York collected images of Cozmic One in training with John Shirreffs, which will also be included in the piece.
Here you can see a few photos of the team in action. Pictured above right is Multimedia Producer Scott Tracy and Online Features Editor Claire Novak in the paddock with Z Princess. Take a look at some of the behind-the-scenes footage below.
This piece is set to run on October 27, and we’ll remind everyone when it is released. We can’t wait to see it!
You can check out another recent longform feature they did on Arlington’s Richard Duchossois and the upcoming Arlington Million here.
Enjoy!

Dear Kathy. We all thought Glesni had left the Dyfi yesterday, she hadn’t been seen since around 1pm but it seems she’s still around today with her youngsters. They are flying around near the river,it’s quite a nice day there.I really thought she would have been on her way by now!I hope Fubu is alright Kimberly went out yesterday with her mum and it’s 23hrs since his last message,a neighbour was supposed to be keeping watch over him(wish it were me!!)Sad story about Ivy she had brittle bones, was very malnourished as a kitten.Marty looked so cute in his slippers!and he had a baff!I didn’t know Little Cakees wrote a blog as well she’s so cute.I went on Zeus Mcgoose last night and had to laugh at Zoey’s dresses all neatly stacked up on hangers how can a girl chose what to wear???Now to visit the rest.Have a blessed Sabbath.Hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.Sheena.Dolly is having long power cuts and poor Harry has lost his girlfuriend!

Sheena. Looks like Kingman won at Deauville. Moosie reminded him not to forget to come out of the gate. He remembered.

Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Glesni must be feeling a real pull to be with her chicks. Sad for her. It was encouraging to read that Fubu ate some for his mom. I’m surprised she left him in the care of the neighbor. Will have to look for the story about Ivy. Poor little thing. Haven’t checked on Marty yet. Will do so next. Will look for Little Cakees’ blog. I always enjoy Zoey. She’s such a fashionista! Steve left for Nevada City this morning. It’s good I have all these furbabies to occupy my time in his absence! Always worried about Dolly. Sad that Harry lost his girlfriend. Have a blessed Sabbath. Hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy.

Dear Max.Yes,I just read about Kingman winning handsomely despite the soft ground .Moosie hands out some good advice!!Maybe Glesni is awaiting a call from him!She seems to be sticking around the Dyfi far longer than I thought.Frankie’s comments were hysterical last night. All the jockeys arrived at Deauville safely.Wonder if they ever get jet-lag???Free the Moose the jump season is getting closer!!!Sheena.
Max
Sheena. Just read that young Joe is going to ride Australia at York. Guess that he can somehow make the weight. How long can this go on? The short one wrote in the Irish press that he admires Joe and said that young Joe is already riding 21 stone under his weight.
One wag on the RP website wondered if that spring chicken comment by Frankie referred to the filly or to himself.

Max
Sheena. Make that 21 lbs only!
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Max.Oh,I’d love to see that jockey riding 21st under his weight!!!!!Young Joe had better be careful he could get dehydrated he hasn’t ridden under 9st this year. He’ll be sweating and starving himself these next few days.Aidan says it’s his decision so… Lots of critical remarks about him on RP.Yes,Frankie is no spring chicken anymore!!!I do hope they will keep Kingman in training for next season.I am waiting the new video of Glesni to come on their you-tube,she’s just been on the nest, can’t bear to leave her”babies” this year.Free the Moose.Niss4Senate!Sheena.
Max
Sheena. I sometimes get stone and kilos intermingled! Yes, 21 stone is a very big jockey.
Kingman should be good for another year. There are still important races to be run. Whenever I see his sire’s name, I think of Urban Sea. As you will recall, Urban Sea died from complications from foaling an Invincible Spirit colt. Very sad that she passed away so young. Most of her progeny were winners like herself, a wonderful racer and mother.
Given a choice between Wales and West Africa, I’d forget the long flight and fly to the Moose.

Max
Sheena. Here is the video of Kingman winning. This is a win and you’re in to the Breeders Cup Turf Mile. Gosden says that he will not go to Santa Anita, but will race in England. I know that you do not like comparisons but times always matter. 1:41 in this race and his times in other races are consistently too slow to win against Dan, if Dan brings on the day. Juddmonte already has Seek Again in the US. Seek also has raced faster, and has experience around turns.

Lots of activity in the nest over the last hour.Gwynant flew away with a good chunk of fish and Deri flew up to the perch and was practising her balance-smile.Standing on one leg only and preening-the shot of her was lovely with fluffy feathers blowing in the wind and the green countryside behind her. Took a break and now both youngsters in the nest.Deri is having a feast and Gwynant is adjusting the branches and helicoptering while he waits patiently for some foodl Touching that Glesni is still around, yes,the pull to make sure her babes are safe must make it hard to leave.

I’m on Cloud Nine.. My boy Leroidesanimaux and a favorite florida mare Big Gem have a Chestnut Colt selling on Wednesday the 27th. I’m going down that morning and can’t wait to see him. He’s just a little over a year old. Not named. He’s a full brother to one of my favorite Filly’s Dulche Gemme.
He’s in barn l4 so I’m going to have a little walking to do to get back to see him before he goes in the ring. I am going to have to leave here early that morning. He’s right over the first l00 to sell that day in Ocala. Can’t wait.
Max, oh the possiblities with these youngsters

Sue Fl CPRC
Hi everyone I have some news for you. You know God never lets me stay down for to long.
A rescue that many of you already know Skip Over Trouble Farm did a really nice thing for me today. They recently took in a young colt that has a few problems and was being neglected. I am not clear on all the details of what happen when they got him. I do know that a neighbor took another colt that was also on the same property and left in similar shape. Penny and her husband named him Skip2 after the original rescue horse they started with Skip. Penny messaged me last night and asked me to name him. I thought of all kinds of names but came up with this one.
Captain Skip Smith – Skippy
I really did not want to take Skip away from them so I just added to it. Captain so he is big and strong like Captain America. Smith well I think you can guess… Mikey and his nickname Skippy if from one of my most favorite horses ever Skip Away. If you have facebook go over and like there page and take a look at Captain Skip Smith.
I did not let the closet demons get me. I march right back in today and shredded until my machine said no more. I have a giant trash bag going from the closet and by next weekend it will be clean. It’s just paper and I am not letting them make me sad. At least not today.
Happy Capping just about an hour away

I will let everyone know about my trip. I met Leroi a few years back and am so excited about seeing one of his sons. I have met one of his daughters so I am so looking forward to seeing this colt. If he looks anything like Daddy or Animal Kingdom, well i think all i can say is wow. I think i’m going to want a hug. Wonder if he’s a biter. “His Daddy Was” Well, I settle for just seeing him. Looking so forward to it.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Sorry, His Daddy “Is” a biter.
Debbie, I think I put the fear of God in Leroi’s handler when I asked if I could feed him a pear. He said quickly will put it in the bucket. Then he told me about his fondness to bite. Too Cute

Dear Max.Thanks for the video of the race.It was rather muddling at the start,no one really wanted to make the running but Kingman has an amazing turn of foot. You are quite right I’ve never been too keen on comparisons but I agree times matter that’s why I have often wondered how WD would cope with euro turf.It really is a shame they have never considered racing him over here. It would have wonderful for us to see him maybe at RA.Had to laugh at Frankie looking back so often!Free the Moose Niss4Senate.Sheena
Max
Sheena. Dan would probably have no problems with Euro turf because he set a race and course record at Woodbine. Woodbine has the best turf course in North America, and is based on English turf courses. They spent $17 million to make it that way. Huge backstretch. UK jockeys praise it. Joshua Tree loves it there. The fastest turf horses in Europe and the US already go to Woodbine and the Breeders Cup races at Santa Anita and elsewhere to compete, so that Dan has no need to get a passport.
Interesting thing for you. I just watched the third leg of the Canadian Triple Crown. One of the jockeys in the race is a woman by the name of Sheena Ryan. I hoped that her horse could pull an upset. Another horse won, but apparently this Sheena is a young rising star.

Forgot to say how much I like Thurzel“s blaze! I can`t belelive how far you two have come in such a short time!! The hug means so much-it must have felt amazing! !I am so impressed that she can trust after what she has been through, but then you are you and that is why. I love that you are going so slow and the hug was your reward.
Thurzel could have shut down but she didn`t when she made it perfectly clear racing was not her thing. She is strong in the best sense, and will forever be grateful to you.
Happy Days.

Dear Debbie. As you may already know we all thought Glesni had left yesterday but mama is still around! And it’s been a record week for fish 37 caught 29 by Monty and the rest by Glesni including that very large flounder! There is a very short video of Glesni on FB which I can’t access and it’s not up on their you-tube(maybe too short only 13secs)I think it just shows her landing on the Larch perch.
We ‘ve been promised some autumnal weather this week especially in the north of the UK.She might want to leave before then!!I hope it stays good for the Ebor festival at York some very good racing for 4 days.I’m so glad you had a good day with Ash yesterday and hope you’ve had a lovely sunday.Love and hugs Sheena.

Dear Max.I am very happy to learn my namesake is a rising star in Canada!Keep an eye out for her!I remember you telling me the Woodbine turf was very similar to ours.I’m sure Dan would have coped very well over here.
Nissy’s blog is quite serious tonight about internet trolls he has some very good advice too.And he’s heard a thunder clap mouses!Free the Moose.Niss4Senate.Sheena.
Max
Sheena. I checked on your namesake. She trained at the Palm Meadows Training Center in Florida. Said that it is a lot quieter there than at Woodbine. Her horse Milwaukee Flash was 9 out of 12 today. Not so bad because the favorite was 12th, and he was by Galileo. She did have a win on the undercard. Any win is good. Emma Jane Wilson was also in that race. They mentioned her trip to Ascot during the post parade.
Interesting thing about the horse who won. He was the only horse to run in all three legs of the Canadian Triple Crown. The rest were fresh horses. Like the Belmont Stakes, this race was a mile and a half, but on turf. So much for the theory that fresh horses always have the advantage. No help here.

Dear Z Fans:
Visited Charlie and Hudson today. My friend of 50 years, Phyllis, came with me. Unfortunately, there was no lesson for Amanda and Hudson. Hudson has a sore right front leg. No heat or swelling. We think it might be a stone bruise deep in her foot, maybe. The vet is coming out on Tuesday.
Deb helped me take Charlie from the paddock and I was able to groom him right there. I didn’t have any breathing problems because we were not closed in (as we would be in the stall) and with some help and brushes from Deb and treats from Phyllis, I was able to make him his handsome self again. He was pretty dusty and mud caked in places. I made some homemade Stud Muffin Like treats for him and Hudson and both of them are crazy for them. They also enjoyed their carrots. Hudson’s appetite, thankfully, is very good.
I took this photo of Charlie just before we left. His eyes look sad to me. I don’t think he wanted us to go. I felt bad leaving him today.
http://www.dropshots.com/littlebigred/date/2014-08-17/14:33:44
Will be waiting for Deb’s news on Hudson on Tuesday It’s very sad when they’re off as it is and on top of that, the show she, Amanda and Deb have been preparing for in CT is in three weeks. There’s a good possibility that she may not be able to participate. That, however, is not as important as having her well and sound again. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
JudyB. Charlie is a handsome fellow. He has the matinee idol look, not a sad look. That’s the look most often used by chestnuts to charm females into bringing in more muffins. It will be very important to follow his lead on this matter. Keep those muffins coming. I can relate to Hudson. I jumped off a bus and bruised the ball of my right hoof. Painful. Hope that she gets good results from the vet.

Dear Max:
You may be exactly right. Sheena said the same thing. As I posted below, Charlie usually gallops off to join his buds when we put him back in the paddock. Today, when I looked back, he was still standing there watching Phyllis and I walk away. That sad look of longing could be for the Stud Muffins. Well, I promised him I will make more.
Yes, praying Hudson is better soon. Hope your hoof is better too. Love and Hugs, JB

The story about the handler asking you to put the pear in Leroi’s bucket made me smile. “Is” being the operative word re: biting.
Ash doesn’t bite but I do put cut up apples and carrots in his bucket when he comes back to his stall. .He LOVES it and he will glance longingly at his bucket if I start doing jobs and wait too long.He has learned to wait nicely and is very respectful but it is not easy-yum!.Ash has 3 buckets, 2 for dunking hay and 1 for feed. He is a bigtime dunker-soo funny to watch..There is a big water bucket in his out and a little tree he likes to take a siesta under.

Sheena. Is Noble Mission going to run at York? Grimthorpe said on August 12 that it might depend on the weather.
Read Nissy’s new blog entry. He said that he doesn’t have those problems but I remember that you said some others had had these issues. Mocking of accents or something similar? Also saw that comment about thunder. Guess that he’s concerned about electricity and the possibility of eating from paper plates again? Apparently the feral cats on the farm have their own set of porcelain plates.
